...In Translation.

Let's talk about LOST! ...In Translation.

Jin's EYE.
Jin is standing on the beach quiet and lost in thought and seems to be looking for something. The waves crash.
{Flash Whoosh}

Jin stands silent in front of Mr. Paik while he signs documents.   Paik’s auto manufacturing office is very modern with two TV monitors. {Paik wears a Movado watch. Jin wears a gray/silver suit.}
Mr. Paik asks Jin why he wants to marry his daughter.  Jin explains although he is from a fishing village he has ambitions to open a restaurant and own a hotel.  Paik wonders what Jin’s father thinks of the marriage.
Jin reveals his father is dead. He also tells Paik he would do anything for his daughter; even work for him.
Mr. Paik-“Why would I give my daughter to a man who sells his own dreams so easily?”
Jin-“Because…She is my dream. Sir.”
Mr. Paik stands and shakes Jin’s hand. Jin is happy.
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin still stands on the beach in thought and sees Sun in a blue bikini on the beach.  He runs up to her, wanting her to cover up, “Are you out of your mind?”    He tries to cover her with a dark blue fabric/towel.
Sun is complaining. Everyone on the beach is witnessing them argue. Even Jack remarks “There they go again.”
{Jin has one handcuff on left hand.} All of a sudden Jin literally pulls on Sun and she falls to the ground.  Michael is pissed off and runs over to stop Jin’s treatment of Sun.  Michael actually pushes Jin away and says, “Hey! Get your hands off her!”
Jin is mouthing off to Michael in Korean and Michael just swears to god that if he puts his hands on her one more time… Jin taunts and pokes at Michael.
Sun slaps Michael across the face. Michael is stunned.

At the caves:
Jin stares at the gold Rolex watch and asks Sun what is going on between her and Michael. She says nothing is going on.
{Flash Whoosh}
Sun is being helped into her wedding dress. {Her white dress hangs nearby}

Jin knocks on the door and happily asks for a moment with his wife.
As sun is dressing in the mirror she shares with him that she wishes his father had lived to see this.
Jin-“Where ever he is, I’m sure he’s proud of me.”
Jin holds up the honeymoon for six months because he wants her father to see he’s committed and after his management training is done.   He puts a white flower in her hair and promises her the honeymoon they’ve always dreamed of.  Sun kisses him.

{Flash Whoosh}
Sun heads over to the raft where Michael is working. She apologizes, but explains that when she slapped him she was protecting him from Jin. Apparently Jin is capable of some intense shit.
Michael- “It’s not my problem…It’s yours.”

Jin is on Hurley’s golf course hitting some black rocks.  Hurley walks over and tells him he should try sea urchin, “They got more ping.”
Hurley goes on to chat with Jin in English while Jin continues swinging at the rocks.   Hurley suggests Jin may want to relax with some fishing after that whole husband and wife thing.
Although Hurley is “trying”, Jin blows him off.
Hurley-“Okay. You wanna be an outsider it’s your business.” And takes his {Bamboo} fishing poles and walks away. You can see Jin is troubled.

Shannon ties a perfect Bowline knot so well that impressed Sayid asks if she has a past in the Navy she neglected to tell him about.   Shannon learned by dating guys with sailboats. They play the “flirt” game to see what happens.

Walt brings his father {Michael} some wires to the raft. {Vincent has no collar}
Michael feels Walt is gonna love New York City, “No city like it”.
He really wants to show him the buildings; the architecture. He also tells Walt about the oldest skyscraper in the city; the 1902 flat iron building. That one building inspired Michael to start drawing and designing things.
Michael is excited about it but Walt doesn’t look very interested.
Walt is interested in throwing the ball to Vincent.

Jack walks over and notes Michael’s progress with the raft.  Michael runs down the list of items used in this project: Bamboo for the decking, a piece of the fuselage for the cabin and some storage bins. Jack {Key around neck} gives Michael the heads up on all the talk going on “about who’s going on this thing with you.”
Michael- “It’s not the Queen Mary. I only got room for four people. There’s one open spot.”
Jack wonders who took the other one. Sawyer bought himself a ticket this little tub and the fare was steep. Sawyer tosses cable for Mike to use on constructing the raft.

At night in the tent Kate asks Sun how much longer she is going to let him treat her this way. The tent is glowing with light from campfires around it. Sun shows loyalty to her husband but still refuses to tell him she speaks English. Kate is just trying to understand. Sun explains he wasn’t always like this; he used to be tender and then he was different.
Kate-“What changed him?”
All of a sudden the shadows of people running past the tent is seen.
The raft is on fire!   We get a close-up of Locke, watching.
The entire beach camp works hard to put out the vicious fire. {Did that fire just friggin' growl?!!}

Michael is very upset to see his work go up in flames. Walt looks scared.
Michael turns to Sun and demands to know “Where the hell is he?!”
Sun replies in Korean and Jack says, “She doesn’t understand, man.”
Kate wants Michael to back off but he won’t.
Michael-“Her husband did this and she knows it! {He asks Sun} You trying to protect him now? Is that it?”
Kate is Sun’s alibi. Walt tries to put out the fire but Mike holds him back. Sun runs off and Michael threatens to break Jin’s damn neck.
Rational Jack remarks they don’t know that Jin did this.
Michael-“Then who did, Jack?!”

At the caves Jin is rummaging through the medical supplies. Sun sees that Jin's hand is burned. Sun assumes Jin burned the raft and wonders how can he do that when Michael is trying to get them “off this island”.
Jin is very jealous of Michael.
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin runs up the stairs to Paik’s office.
Jin is taking full responsibility for what happened; claiming the machinery is old. Mr. Paik didn’t call Jin up to reprimand him; he is promoting him. “You will be my new special assistant.”
Jin’s first task
is to go to the home of Byung Han, the secretary for environmental safety and deliver a message on behalf of displeased Paik.

Three knocks on the door:
Jin-Soo-Kwon introduces himself to the man and is invited in. Han is very afraid. There is a young girl sitting on the couch petting her dog. {TV in the background shows Hurley is on it. There is a Foo dog.} Han doesn’t want the message delivered in front of his daughter.  Jin informs him Paik is displeased with him. The man is relieved, and apologizes by giving Jin the little girls championship breed dog; it is incredibly valuable.
Jin seems pleased.

At the beach Boone reveals to Sayid that Shannon likes older men who can take care of her.  He thinks in this place Sayid fits the bill.  He also says “When she gets what she needs she’ll move on. When she does…don’t take it personally, man.”  {Campfires and torches are a blaze all over the place. Boone is wearing the shirt/sleeveless he worn in Locke’s dream.}
Sayid wasn’t asking for Boone’s permission in pursuing a relationship with Shannon.

Its daylight and Jin is sleepingBirds’ wings flapping wake him up.  He kneels by the stream, looks around and puts his hands in the running water. Out of nowhere pissed off Sawyer appears, “Messed up my ride, Chief!” and kicks him in the face.

Sayid helps capable Shannon tie up plastic for a tent. Sayid feels she would be alright building it on her own. Sayid looks troubled and Shannon see this. Sayid suggests she should find another friend to help her with her shelter.
Shannon realizes he’s been talking to her brother and runs off.

In the jungle Shannon comes upon Locke who is having a rat dinner. {There are two additional rats hanging from the tree.} Shannon is looking for Boone but Locke hasn’t seen him.
Shannon gives Locke a message for Boone, “Tell him to keep his stupid mouth shut. And if he has something to say he can leave Sayid out of it and come say it to my face.”
Locke wonders if he should be writing this down.
Shannon wants Boone to stay out of her business.

Locke-“Do you like him?”
Shannon-“What?"
Locke-“Sayid?”
Locke feels if she does like him, “What’s it got to do with your brother? You’re a grown woman. Sure, you can yell at Boone till you’re blue in the face, all you’re doing is giving him what he wants.”
Shannon–“Yeah what’s that?”
Locke-“Your attention. Everyone gets a new life on this island, Shannon. Maybe it's time to start yours."

Sawyer has Jin, hands tied behind his back and leashed.   He’s taunting him about being scared; he thinks Jin understands being “scared”, and if he aint, he’s gonna be. {The camera closes in a bit on Sawyer’s mouth} “The folks down at the beach might have been doctors and accountants a month ago…but its Lord of the Flies time now.” as he threatens Jin with a knife.   Jin just stares him down.
{Flash Whoosh}

Sun playfully has Jin’s eyes covered with her hands. She directs him to the table where she presents him with a romantic feast.  Mr. Paik calls Jin’s cell phone, interrupting them. Jin ignores the call; business can't wait. Mr. Paik calls the house phone.

Pissed off Mr. Paik is questioning Jin about why his factory is closed. He feels he’s losing millions because Jin is too incompetent to deliver a simple message.   Paik has Jin drive with his associate back to Han {Dressed in white and black.} to see how to deliver a message.

In the car in the backseat, the associate readies himself for the message delivery; with rubber gloves and gun with silencer.  He wants Jin to keep the engine running, “I will be inside less than two minutes. When I return you will not drive faster than the speed limit.  You will take this car to the riverbank eight kilometers away. Do you understand?”
Jin and the hit man arrive at the house. Jin goes in without the associate and is completely in “thug” mode. He does indeed deliver a violent message and tells Han the factory will open tomorrow.
Jin whispers to him, “I just saved your life.”    Jin looks over and sees the upset little girl. The associate watches from the sideline.

Jin returns home to Sun all bloody. {Note the dog is bigger} At first Sun wonders if he’s hurt, but realizes it’s not his blood.   Jin explains he was working.  Sun demands answers about what he does and ends up slapping Jin in the face after things get physical.
Jin-“I do whatever your father tells me. I do it for us.”
Sun backs out of the room.  Jin continues to wash the blood off his hands.
Jin is very upset, looks at himself in the mirror and cries.
{Flash Whoosh}
Sawyer throws Jin down into the sand.  Michael comes running over to Jin about burning his raft. Michael gets intercepted by Hurley and Jack. {Charlie is wearing his black hoodie because it must be very cold on the island!}

Everyone starts arguing about it. Jin is listening. He says something in Korean. Michael asks what he said.
Jin repeats himself, almost as if he’s purposely taunting Michael.
Michael goes after him and punches Jin in the face.
Walt is stunned at the chaos and fighting.
Sun screams in English, “Stop it! Leave him alone.” {Why didn't Michael ever ask Sun in private if he burned the raft?}
Jin is now stunned.
Sun-“He didn’t burn your raft.”
There is shock when the reveal of Sun’s ability to speak English.
Jack-“You understood us? All this time? Why didn’t you say anything?”
Crying Sun explains to Michael that his raft was already on fire when Jin arrived. He burned his hands trying to put it out.
Michael never looks at Jin but asks, “Then why did he run?”
Sun translates the question to Jin but Jin doesn’t reply.
Mike-“That’s what I thought.”
Sun feels her husband is many things, but he is not a liar.
Sawyer won’t listen to "her/Betty" lecture because she obviously lied to old man, Jin about her ability to speak English. “How do we know she’s not covering for him?”
Locke interjects-“Because she isn’t.”
Locke knows Jin and Mike have personal issues but doesn’t feel he would ruin their best chance of getting off the island.
Locke-“Okay, it's personal, but why take it out on our best chance of getting off the Island? Why would any one of us block an attempt to get home? We’re so intent on pointing the finger at one another that we’re ignoring the simple undeniable truth that the problem isn’t here it’s there! They’ve attacked us, sabotaged us, abducted us, murdered us! Maybe it’s time we stop blaming us and started worrying about them!...We're not the only people on this island and we all know it!" Locke walks away.

Sun reiterates to Michael “He did not do it.”   Jin walks away from Sun.

Vincent, without a collar, sniffs around the burned raft.   Michael is upset because he can’t salvage a thing. {Pontoons, decking, twine} He has a bit of a temper tantrum.
Michael apologizes to Walt. “Look. We all have setbacks. I mean god knows, man. It’s just life. We’ll start over.”
Michael wants to build a better raft. {Goody!} Walt will help.

Sun tries to talk to Jin. He has chosen to deal with her by packing his stuff.  Sun asks why he just didn’t admit to her he didn’t burn the raft. “Why won’t you speak to me, Jin? What have I done to deserve this?! When did we stop talking?”
Jin walks away from her and she yells out in English “I was going to leave you!”
Jin stops and turns to listen.
Sun-“I was going to get away. But you made me change my mind. You made me think that you still loved me!”   Then she switches to Korean- “I want go back to the beginning. Can’t we…just start all over?”
{Flash Whoosh}
Handsome Jin arrives at a tiny fishing dock.   He approaches an older man who is stunned to see him. Jin apologizes to his father. “Please forgive me. I was…ashamed of you.”
Jin cries and papa hugs him.
Jin helps his father move a crate/box and he tells him of his love for his beautiful, intelligent, hardheaded wife Sun and his work for Mr. Paik.   Jin feels that’s the reason they don’t talk anymore.  He can’t tell her about her father.
Jin-“In a good world she would hate him, not me.
Jin's father feels it is a good world.
Jin-“You don’t know what I’ve done.”
Father feels as his son it doesn’t matter what he’s done.
Jin-“I wish I could start over.”
Father feels there are no more important responsibilities than his wife.   Father advises to do this last delivery of watches for Mr. Paik to Sydney and Los Angeles, and walk away. “Don’t come back. Go to go to America...save your marriage.”
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin is standing in the cave starring at Sun.
Jin-“It’s too late.”, and walks away.

At night near a campfire, Shannon approaches Sayid and kisses him. Sayid wonders what that was for.
Shannon-“Everyone gets a new life on this island. I’d like to start now.”
Walt is playing with the backgammon game. (Vincent is there)
Locke asks, “Got yourself an opponent?”
Walt tells him Hurley owes him $83,000 and told him he’d give him a chance to win it back.
Locke-“It’s been a while since you and I played.” {Really?! How long?}
Locke sits down opposite Walt and pets Vincent. Locke doesn’t have $83,000.
Locke asks where his pop is and Walt asks if Locke has a dad and if he's cool.  {Walt is not allowed to leave the caves after dark.} {Michael is at the beach.}
Locke says everyone’s got a dad and no, his pop isn’t cool.   They play backgammon and Walt seems pretty good at it.
Locke –“Why did you burn the raft, Walt? Don't worry, I'm not going to tell. You must've had a really good reason.
Walt says he doesn't want to move anymore, "I’ve been moving places my whole life. I like it here!"
Locke-"I like it here too."

Michael is on the beach rummaging through the raft wreckage. Jin strolls over with a bundle of bamboo, turns to Michael and says, “Boat”. Apparently the boys will play nice now.
Hurley walks by them with his headphones on for his CD player. The song Delicate plays.
Shannon and Sayid are hanging out together; eating.
Sun walks down to the beach in her blue bikini and lets her dark blue towel fall away.   She steps into the water.
Hurley watches Charlie brings Claire a drink.
The CD player batteries die.
Hurley-“Son of a bitch.” and removes his headphones. {How long has he been able to use that CD player? How long do those damn batteries last? Are the super duper power batteries? Is there a fucking time discrepancy?!!!}

...In Translation is a GREAT episode!  We get a peek into both Sun and Jin's "make up".   I find that interesting in itself.

* Task. Deliver. Value.
* Why is Hurley on the TV? Why do they’re connections to each other seem very contrived?

Vocabulary and Research...
*  Ping: A computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a latency test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. The "echo response" is sometimes called a pong. Ping measures the round trip time and records any packet loss, and prints when finished a statistical summary of the echo response packets received.

This episode shows us how Jin changes from being the goodhearted simple man to a man of violence.   But just like Sawyer, he became a product of his circumstances and necessity.    I believe he truly loves Sun and she loves him.   The dominance that her powerful father has over everyone is very dangerous.    Jin is hurt that Sun kept her speaking English a secret.  Even though it appears that Jin doesn't speak or understand English, and even in an upcoming episode he says he doesn't, I'm not completely sold on that being the truth.   Too many times it appears they all do verbally communicate to and with Jin.
It seems as if these people have a problem with communicating their feelings with the people closest to them.  They seem to keep emotions, hurt and pain, locked deep inside.

There is nothing lost in translation with this episodes' meaning...
"Can't we just go back to the beginning?...Start over?"
And indeed you shall!    Literally!

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

Solitary.

Let’s talk about LOST! Solitary.

Sayid sits alone on a beach looking at a picture of a woman. He turns it over to read the message written on the back. He looks lonely.

Something in the sand catches his eye; a cable. He picks up the cable and notes that it leads in to the sea as well in to the jungle.

He follows the cable into the jungle.

Jack rips of Sawyer’s bandages, as they need changing. Sawyer chats about the house call from “Dr. Quinn, “Trying to ease your conscience.”
Jack’s conscience is fine.
Sawyer- “Course, what do you got to feel guilty about? I mean you just let that damn Arab torture me. Stood by and watched. And you figured you’d patch me up, buy you a ticket into heaven. Only reason you’re here is...”
Jack interjects that he’s here because no one else wants anything to do with ya.”
Sawyer smiles because he feels, “She does.”
Jack gives a quiet laugh and tells Sawyer to change his own bandages.

Kate stands just starring down the beach.
Jack asks her if she’s looking for someone or just admiring the view.
Kate’s worried about Sayid; it’s been two days since Sayid took off on his own, “I keep looking up thinking I’m gonna see him coming back.”
Jack tells her that he’ll come back when he’s found what he’s looking for, “French transmission.”
Kate says he wasn’t looking for anything; he left because of what happened, because of what he did.
Jack shakes his head no, “It was an accident.”
Kate feels “accidents happen when you torture people, Jack.”
Jack feels Sayid’s a trained soldier; he’ll take care of himself. {That's Sayid's role.}
Kate still looks worried.

In the jungle Sayid continues to follow the cable. He comes upon a tripwire, carefully stepping over it. Unfortunately he still triggers a trap. The trap leaves him hanging upside down and while he’s swinging, a stick punctures his left thigh. He pulls out the stick but this makes him pass out.

Night in the jungle:
Sayid is still hanging upside down from the trap. He is mumbling something in Arabic; is not really coherent or fully conscious. He hears footsteps in the jungle and he calls out “Hello.”
Sayid is cut down from the trap and he falls to the ground. His vision is blurry and he tries to focus in on the person near him, unfortunately he passes out again.

At the cave infirmary Jack is tending to Sullivan; who has a rash. Jack hears voices outside {“Get him out of there! He’s drinking our water!”} and he asks Hurley what’s going on. Hurley tells him it’s the usual; people yelling at each other over nothing.
Sullivan {Wears Harry Potter glasses} is nervous about his rash; he thinks its tropical disease.
Jack’s diagnosis is its hives; a common rash brought on by heat and stress, “Just try to relax. It’ll clear up. Try to keep your mind off it.”
Sun gives him an aloe type remedy to help with the rash.
Jack shares with Hurley that he’s got enough on his plate without having to treat hypochondriacs.
Hurley feels that’s his point, “We’re all fried. I mean, have you taken a look at everybody out there? Everybody’s way tense. Dude, I’m just sayin it’d be sweet if we could have…I don’t know... something to do.”
Jack feels they’re surviving here; his main concern is keeping “us alive. Things could be worse.”
Hurley-“HOW?!”

A blurry light swings overhead. Distorted voices are heard asking in different languagesWhere is Alex?”
The voices sound like whispers at times.  Sayid is knocked out but trying to regain consciousness. He tries to gain clarity of the voices and his surroundings.   The "voices" are revealed to come from only one woman.   Sayid realizes he is tied to a metal bed frame by wires tying his hands {near his head} and chains on his feet. {He has a bandage on his head.}
The woman paces behind a net as she repeatedly asks about Alex.  Sayid doesn’t know anything about Alex.  Sayid is physically shocked.{As a form of torture.}
He yells “STOP!!!”
{Flash Whoosh}
“STOP!”
Solider Sayid is beating up Falah. Omar watches. Sayid is questioning/interrogating Falah. {Sayid’s uniform shows two stars.}  In Arabic he assures his prisoner “We already know the truth. But we want you to admit it. (In English) And all the pain will stop...”
He goes on to tell the prisoner his Shiite friends have already implicated him in the bombing. Sayid grabs the man by the hair and yells, “You planted the device in the Baathist headquarters, didn't you? You killed two soldiers! Confess it. Confess it and perhaps it will only cost you your hands instead of your life.”
The prisoner pukes.

Solider Sayid is informing Omar that the prisoner doesn’t know anything; his sources were wrong. Omar is impressed by Sayid’s handling of the interrogation and reveals he put in for Sayid’s reassignment to the intelligence division; if he wishes.  Sayid shows respect for his superior by calling him sir, even though it’s just the two of them there.
Sayid anticipates becoming Omar’s superior. Sayid notes the hooded woman prisoner being escorted. Omar is talking to Sayid but his voice becomes very distant as Sayid and the woman make eye contact.
Omar- “That reminds me, Sayid. In addition to your increased responsibility...Communications officer...” {I can’t make it all out.}
Sayid seems to have heard him and replies with “I’m willing to make that sacrifice.”

In the caves Hurley is sleeping sitting up.
Ethan drops a couple of bags in front of him, waking him up. Locke tells Hurley the bags were in the jungle; they must have fallen from the plane. {Locke winks his right eye.}
Ethan informs Hurley night is the best time to hunt.
Locke adds that Ethan has some experience “Spotted some tracks look like they might be rabbit or some other rodent.”
Ethan figures people are starting to get tired eating boar meat. Hurley agrees and then looks through the bags for anything useful.

Locke puts his knife in its sheath as Walt wakes up to see him. Walt makes sure Michael is sleeping and goes over to ask Mr. Locke if he’s going back out to hunt because he wants to go with him, “I just want to learn how to do what you do.”
Michael has woken up and calls out for “Walt!”
Michael knows what Walt was doing, “Aint gonna happen, man. Just get back to bed.” {BED?! HA!}

Hurley opens a bag and discovers something that makes him light up and gives him an idea.

Prisoner Sayid is screaming out in pain as he is literally being shocked by electric current the woman has rigged as a form of interrogation.
He is pleading with his captor who is just a silhouette in front of a light bulb; he doesn’t know who Alex is, “I’m a survivor of a plane crash.  I found a wire on the beach. I followed it…I thought it might have something to do with a transmission we picked up on the receiver. A recording…a mayday. With a French woman repeating on a loop for 16 years.”

The woman in French says “Si quelqu'un m'entend, je vous en prie, venez à notre aide... Il les a tués. Il les a tous tués..” {“If someone hears me, I beg you, come to our aid ... He was killed. He killed them all ...”} she slowly comes out from the dark. Then in English she asks “16 years. Has it really been that long?”
Sayid sees the woman, “You.
She wonders, “You just happen to hear my distress call? I know what you are.”
Sayid appears frightened.
The woman knocks him out.

The woman is looking through a book and the contents of the backpack.
Sayid is still bound to the bed frame; he wakes up.
He sees the name Rousseau and says it out loud. She wonders how he knows her name. Sayid tells her “I read it...There on the jacket. What is this place?”
He notes a bunch of batteries and mentions that they’re not enough to power her distress call all these years.
Rousseau-“I broadcast from somewhere else. But they control it now.”
Sayid wonders, “They?”
Rousseau- “You. And the Others like you.”
Sayid- “I don’t know who you think I am but I am not…”
Rousseau-“Sayid.”
His name is on the envelope he carries.
Rousseau inquires who  the woman in the photographs is.
Her name is Nadia.

{Flash Whoosh}
As they walk down the steps into a guarded area {appears to be below street level}, Omar fills Sayid in on them not being able to tie Noor Abed-Jazeem directly to the bombing but they know where her sympathies lie. She's a known associate of Kurdish and Shiite insurgents. As he looks through the files Sayid asks if she knows who orchestrated the bombing, but that is exactly what Sayid will find out. A guard opens the door to let Sayid inside.
“Noor Abed-Jazeem. I’m going to ask you some questions.”
Sayid warns her if she refuses to cooperate he will hurt her.
This woman tells Sayid nobody calls her Noor; she knows him. Does he remember her? Is she so different from the little girl in the schoolyard who used to push him in the mud? He remembers “Nadia.”
Their mothers knew each other and his mother would ask her mother why would you pick on little Sayid. Nadia says it’s because he ignore her. Sayid feels she had enough attention with her family’s wealth and her charm. Nadia knows such things matter little to children, “But then you always were older than your years. Weren’t you, Sayid?”
He wasn’t old enough to know that being pushed in the mud was a sign of affection. Now she’s a traitor to her country. Sayid again questions her about the bombing and threatens to hurt her. This is not her first interrogation by the Republican Guard. She shows him the burn scars on her chest from their acid torture and shows the palms of her hands where she they pierced her hands with a drill.
Nadia-“Would you like to see the soles of my feet? Where they filleted the skin off?”
These are handiworks of his friends; the people he swears allegiance to.
Sayid looks a bit troubled and apologizes if she is innocent, but this bombing is a different matter. Nadia encourages him to do his work; she’s not going to tell him anything. She accepts he’s going to hurt her.
{Flash Whoosh}
Danielle comments on Sayid bullet wound.
He admits he was a soldier a long time ago. Rousseau holds the photo of Nadia and wants to know more about her.
Sayid- “Alex. Who is he?”
Rousseau just gives him a look.

Michael has a large stick, pencil and spiral notebook; he’s working on something. Walt is very bored and Michael tells him he needs to figure out a way to entertain himself.
Hurley is looking for something, finds it and takes/borrows Michaels’ big stick and runs off. Jack asks him what he’s doing but Hurley only smiles and gives a mischievous laugh.

Sayid is still strapped to the bed frame and Rousseau questions him about hearing the transmission and looking for her. Sayid didn’t even know she was alive. She feels he’s still lying and even feels he’s lying about this plane crash he survived. Sayid admits there are more than 40 others.
Rousseau wonders why he’s alone. Sayid shares that he left them because he did something he’s ashamed of. {Listen to that voice.}
Rousseau-“And Nadia…you left her too?”
Sayid-“She wasn’t on the plane. She’s dead...Because of me.”
Danielle tenderly touches his face and says she’s so sorry. She all of a sudden feels motivated to show him something.

Michael shows Jack a drawing depicting a shower system they can build.
Michael says "HE WAS AN ARTIST IN A PREVIOUS LIFE."
Jack thought Michael was in construction.
Michael-“I am, I mean I was. Long story.”
Charlie tells Jack Hurley’s all worked up about something, said they should go see it.
Jack, Charlie and Michael see that Hurley built a golf course.

Hurley welcomes them to the first and hopefully last “Island Open.” {Crosses his fingers} It's two holes, for now, three par and no waiting. After all, rich idiots fly to tropical islands all the time to whack balls around. The guys feel he wasted his time doing that since they have other things to deal with. Hurley built this so the Castaways would feel safe and have something to keep their minds off the downer about being there. Everyone’s nerves are stretched to the max.
Hurley- “We’re lost on an “Island” running from boars and monsters, frickin polar bears.” Apparently Michael didn’t hear about the polar bear. Hurley wants them to have fun so they don’t go crazy waiting for the next bad thing to happen. They enjoy it and have lots of fun. Good times are had by all!

A tiny dancing couple is “made” to spin by Rousseau. Her music box has been broken for a long time. It was a gift from her love, Robert, for their anniversary. For her first few years there it was a comfort to her.
Sayid offers to fix it for her; if she frees his hands. He admits he’s very good with mechanical things.
Rousseau gets up and prepares a syringe. She asks Sayid what is written on the back of his photograph.
Sayid is nervous seeing her with the needle.
Rousseau-“Did she write it or did you?...Perhaps you don’t want to tell me because it causes too much pain.”
She injects Sayid with the old filthy needle.

Serious Jack and Michael are strategizing quietly about the problem. Jack asks Michael for the Seven Iron.
Jack yells over to the dancing duo {Hurley and Charlie} “Hey! Heads up over there!”  The distant duo aren’t worried; Jack won’t get anywhere near them.  As Jack is about to take his swing, over comes Sullivan; his rash is starting to spread.
As Sullivan describes his symptoms he snaps into the realization the guys are playing golf, “Can I play?”

Chained to a chair and sleeping with his head on the desk is Sayid. He jolts awake. Rousseau apologizes for the sedative, “It was the only safe way for me to move you.” {The mighty tiny woman can move this grown man across the room! I call fucking shenanigans!}
There are maps laid out behind him.
Sayid fixes her music box even after all the things she’s done to him; striking him, shocking him. Sayid wants to know her first name.
Her name is Danielle.
Sayid inquires, “And how did you come to be on this island,Danielle?”
He takes a couple of deep breathes before she begins her story.
Danielle-“We were part of a science team.”
Sayid- “A science team armed with rifles. Was Robert on the team?”
Yes he was.
Sayid- “And Alex, was he too?”
Danielle doesn’t look at him or even acknowledge he asked that question; she only continues on with her story, not missing a beat.
Danielle continues, ”Our vessel was three days out of Tahiti…but our instruments malfunctioned. It was night...the storm…the sounds…The ship slammed into rocks, ran aground. The hull breached beyond repair. So, we made camp, dug out this temporary shelter. Hah, temporary. Nearly two months we survived here. Two months before…”
Sayid cuts her off with, “Your distress signal, the message I heard… you said it killed them all.”
After a few seconds she continues her dramatic story, “We were coming back from the Black Rock {Sayid perks up here.} It was them…they were the carriers.”
Sayid excitedly asks who the carriers were.
Danielle whispers, “The Others.”
Sayid- “What Others? What is the Black Rock?...Have you seen other people on this island?
She says she does not see them, but she hears them out there in the jungle, “They whisper...You think I’m insane.”
Sayid thinks she’s been alone for too long.
{Flash Whoosh}
A door opens to a pitch dark long narrow room.
Sayid has brought the prisoner Nadia some bread. He’ll try to bring her some food later, “Are you ready to talk?” he asks.
Apparently it depends on what he'd like to talk about. Her conversation will suffer because she’s been locked up in this cell for weeks.
Sayid whispers that they have two suspects in custody, and has her take a look at some photographs. All she needs to do is “nod”; if she’s willing to cooperate he thinks he can get them to free her.
Nadia tenderly touches his hand and says, “Then I won’t have these visits to look forward to anymore.”
Sayid- “This isn’t a game, Nadia.”
Nadia- “Yet you keep playing it, Sayid. Pretending to be something I know you’re not.”
{No Flash Whoosh}
Shannon sunbathes on the beach, reading a magazine. Boone comes over to tell her about somebody making a golf course.
Shannon asks, “Are you high?”
Kate {Carrying fire wood} overhears that Jack is golfing and go to check it out. Kate walks by Sawyer standing at the engine. “Doctor playing golf…Woo! Howdy…now I’ve heard everything. What’s next? Cop eating a donut?”
Sawyer will pass on checking out the golf game, as he and the “crowd” are not hot on each other.
Kate advises him,”One outcast to another…I’d think about making more of an effort.” It is duly noted.

The music box plays as its dancers dance.
Sayid-“You see...some things can be fixed.” {She didn’t acknowledge the playing music box until he brings it to her attention.}
Danielle is pleased and thanks him. As Sayid hands her the box he manages to hold on to a screwdriver. Sayid calmly asks her to please let him go back to the people he told her about. Danielle says he can’t go; it’s not safe.
Sayid wonders “What’s not safe?”
Danielle feels he needs her. On cue there is a very loud growl.
Nervous Sayid asks what that is. Danielle arms herself and tells him if they’re lucky it’s one of the bears.
Danielle heads up the stairs and opens the hatch to the pit/hole.
Sayid warns, “It might be that thing up there. The monster!”
Danielle tells him there’s no such thing as monsters.
Now alone, Sayid notes she left a rifle.
{Flash Whoosh}
“We have to execute her.” Omar tells Sayid the Jazeem woman has given them nothing; this will send a message to the others who will not talk.
Sayid feels he needs more time with her; although it’s been more than a month. Omar wants Sayid to bring her outside and shoot her, or he will.
The door opens to let bright daylight into the pitch dark cell.
Nadia shields hers eyes. Very weak Nadia is happy to see Sayid and asks, “What did you bring me today?”
He tosses a black hood at her and tells her to put it on.
Nadia- “Are you going to hurt me, Sayid?”

Sayid frees himself from Danielle’s restraints, puts her maps and papers in his backpack, takes the rifle and climbs up out of the hatch.
A photo of hooded Nadia is shown.

Lucky, lucky, Jack makes a great shot.
Kate wonders if he has a ladies team.
Jack-“When did you show up?
Kate- “A while ago.” {How long? He wouldn’t have noticed her in the crowd?!}
Kate almost didn’t recognize him...because he’s smiling.
Jack jokes he will have to watch that.
Jack shares with Kate the person who came up with all this is Hurley.
Jack has been going crazy and hasn’t been sleeping trying to make everyone feel safe and Hurley builds a golf course and everyone feels safe.
Hurley tries to make a shot but doesn’t, “Ah, crap! Do over.”
Charlie corrects him by teaching him the proper word in this gentlemen’s sport is a Mulligan. He repeats the word Mulligan a few of times. Walt shows up; Dad left him alone at the caves. Michael says he left Walt with Claire.
Walt- “She’s sleeping.”
Michael apologizes, “I just got caught up.”
Dad screwed up and will make it up to him. Michael asks Walt if he wants to play. Hurley is not good at golf although he tries to make a shot. Walt notes other people are waiting to play so he declines. Charlie informs Michael it’s his shot so he tells Walt they’ll play later.   Excited Michael takes his shot.

Sayid makes his way through the jungle and hears twigs snap and stops.
Danielle is in the jungle and apparently hears something and holds up her rifle. She takes a few steps to investigate and armed Sayid comes up behind her.  He tells her to put the gun down on the ground but she defies him and aims it right at him.
They are in a standoff.
{No Flash Whoosh}
Worried Sayid leads two guards who are walking hooded and cuffed Nadia down the corridor. Sayid informs the soldiers he’ll take it from here.
Once the men are out, Sayid hurries Nadia to the door, un-cuffs her and tells her “Forty meters outside this door there’s a supply truck that will be leaving shortly. They don’t check them on the way out, only coming in. Get inside; cover yourself anyway that you can. They won’t reach the city for thirty minutes. That’s enough time for you to jump out and hide yourself.“
Nadia wants him to go with her.
Sayid can’t; desertion, they would kill his family, “I don’t have your courage.”
Nadia feels he has more than he knows. She takes the photo of herself and a pen out of his shirt pocket to write something.
Omar calls out to Sayid and sees something is up. He calls for the guard and Sayid shoots him.
Nadia feels now Sayid has to go with her or they’ll kill him.
Sayid won’t go, instead he makes up a story about her escape and how she stole his gun, shot Omar and Sayid. Sayid shoots himself in his left thigh to make it look like it was self defense. She takes the gun and runs out. Sayid looks at the written message.
{Flash Whoosh}
Sayid doesn’t wish to hurt her/Danielle.
Danielle- “You already have.” She aims as if to fire at him and Sayid fires, but no bullet is fired. Danielle admits the firing pin has been removed, “Robert didn’t notice it was missing either…When I shot him.”
Sayid thought she loved Robert. Danielle reveals he was sick, “Took them one after the other. I had no choice. They were already lost.”
Sayid-“You killed them.”
Danielle wonders what would have happened if they were rescued; she couldn’t let that happen, “I won’t!”
Sayid tosses the rifle and announces he’s not sick. She knows, so why kill him. Emotional Danielle says she can’t let him go, “Don’t you understand…to have someone to talk to…to touch…”
Sayid walks closer to her and says, You’ll find me in the next life, if not in this one.That’s the writing on the back of Nadia’s photograph.
He knows what it’s like to hold on to someone, “I’ve been holding on for the past 7 years to just the thought, a blind hope that somewhere she is still alive. But the more I hold on, the more I pull away from those around me. The only way off thisthis place is with their help.” {Team work!}
Sayid offers her to go with him so she doesn’t have to be alone.
Danielle tenderly touches his face, gets up and says, “Your people, the ones you’re determined to get back towatch them. Watch them closely.”
She walks away but Sayid asks her who Alex is.
Danielle, keeping her back to him says, “Alex was my child“, and she heads back into the jungle.

Charlie is lining up his shot and taking it very serious, “I’ve never made par on a course before.”
He doesn’t do it.
Michael tells Jack it’s all up to him, “You sink this you get to wear the blazer.”
Kate-“No pressure.”
Charlie-“Yeah, no pressure.”
Hurley bets 5 bucks Jack sinks it. Charlie is upset Hurley’s betting against him.
Boone bets 10.
Sullivan doesn’t have any cash but bets his dinner on the doc.
Sawyer shows up and says he’s got two tubes of sunscreen and a flashlight says he chokes. Jack and Kate seem happy to see Sawyer, but the rest of the crowd not so much.
Kate will take Sawyer’s “action”.
Boone changes his bet because he and the princess need the sunscreen.
Jack takes his swing. {Boone and Shannon “need” the sunscreen.}

A knife is thrown into a tree.
Locke is practicing. “Does your father know you’re here?” he asks out loud.
Walt is standing behind him, starring in amazement. He asks Locke to teach him how to do that.
Locke hands the knife over to the child.

Sayid walks through the darkening, windy, howling and whistling jungle. He uses a large walking stick. He stops because he hears whispers.

Solitary is a GREAT episode!
Claire isn't in this episode again.
Danielle uses the term 'the Others' here, but our Castaways have called each other that many times. Yep, go back check it out. If we're going to analyze everything then why not analyze the term The Others. {So, are they ALL Others? Wink, wink!} The Lostie's aren't alone on the “Island”...and with me questioning how Danielle cut him down and carried Sayid, did she have help?  Who could have helped her? How did “this woman” move a grown man around…really?

This episode gives us a look at Sayid's life as a soldier.  He falls in love with a prisoner who he has a past with, but tries to free her. His role as solider comes in handy again when he is taken prisoner by Danielle. Sayid is trying to free himself from something.  Do we believe Danielle's story of her arrival, the sickness, “them”, the monster, and the whispers. How does the Black Rock fit in here? Did Sayid finding Danielle's place open up a 'door' on the Island or trigger something?

Things to note...Questions to ask...
* Whispers.
* Sleep. Knocked out. Drugged up. Wake up.
* Danielle speaks many languages. HA! Maybe she’s a protocol droid like C3PO. Lol!
* Danielle appears to be the only one in the bunker. I point this out because this woman is about 100lbs if that… You're going to tell me she cut him down a grown man from the hanging trap, carried or dragged him through the jungle to her lair, tied him up etc....
* Sayid told Danielle he was in a plane crash....Wouldn't Miss Jungle have HEARD a plane crash?
* Why is “Rousseau” pushing so hard for Sayid to talk about Nadia, really?
* What is the security system there to guard?
* No real identifying names on uniforms.
* Locke is hanging out with Ethan in the jungle.
* In Pilot part 2, Shannon interprets the distress looped dialog to be “I'm alone now. Uhmmm... on the island alone. Please, someone come. The others they're... they're dead. I-it killed them. It killed them all.” Then note the translation above. It says "HE"
* Rabbits, rats, mice and Danielle live in a hole in the ground.
* Music Box. Dance. Orchestrate.
* Wires. Cables. Battery. Maps. Files. Execute. Escape. Sounds like a computer to me!
* Electrical current.
* Sayid shoots his left thigh and a branch punctures his left thigh when he is trapped.
* Mulligan. Do Over.
* A “game” they keep playing over and over.

Vocabulary and Research...
* Solitary: Alone, single, secluded. This word is a shortened form of solitary confinement in jail.
* Vessel- In Buddhism: The Treasure Vase (Bumpa) is a sign of the inexhaustible riches available in the Buddhist teachings, but also symbolizes long life, wealth, prosperity and all the benefits of this world.

This episode is a Sayid centric, although ALL of our Lostie's fit the definition of secluded. Do they keep playing this “game” but assume different roles in it?
Do we ignore or embrace the references to the past, previous life, older than your years, a long time ago, etc. I myself can't ignore these clues at this point. They are there right in front of our eyes to shape our story.
It seems as though our Castaways have to face the truth about themselves or something, deep emotional hurt, addictions, wrongs, depression, or whatever is making them feel “lost”, and when they come to terms with those things, all of their pain will stop. Is this being accomplished by playing this “game”? Then I need to find out who is the creator, the master mind of such a “Soul searching adventure game”.   After all rich idiots fly to tropical islands...Hey, maybe they're all rich idiots! lol

Love to all who are "Lost"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.

THE ECONOMIST.

Let’s talk about LOST! The Economist.

Eyes closed.
Sayid kneels, meditating by the chopper. He opens his eyes and sees Naomi’s body is covered, except for her Head {Just like Tom was on the beach!} Her left arm sticks out; she is wearing a silver bracelet.
He walks over to her; we can hear the conversation Jack is having with Miles with regards to finding Ben and the people who hired him. {Listen to that conversation!}
Jack asks Juliet if Ben ever mentioned knowing anyone off the island.
Sayid closes Naomi’s eyes,covers her head and takes the bracelet from her.
The inscription reads "N. I’ll always be with you. RG"
Miles tells Jack their mutual problem is this Locke guy.
Kate-"Even if Locke has your friend you can’t just waltz in there and grab her. They’re armed."
Miles reminds them they are too. Sayid informs them they’re not going anywhere then asks Frank, "Will that helicopter fly?" {DUH, Sayid told Jack it would fly!}
Sayid wants to be taken to his ship.
Frank burned a lot of fuel coming in and he can’t take much weight, "I’ll take three of ya." {They had this conversation already!}
Miles-"In case you zoned out while you were tweezing your goatee, one of these Yahoos took Charlotte prisoner."
Sayid claims he can bring her back, safely, "And if I do will you take me to the ship?"
Frank-"You bring Charlotte back safe, and I will take you off this island."

Sayid is golfing. {Lefty. Redtowel}
Mr. Avellino carts over and chats with him. "Long walk to the next hole. Want a ride?"
Sayid-"Thank you, but no. My ball is right here."
Sayid is the first person he’s seen out there all morning. Sayid feels they pay a premium for that kind of privacy. Avellino inquires if this is Sayid's first time in Seychelles.
Sayid nods "Yes".
Avellino suggests Sayid use the 5 iron for the shot he’s about to take but Sayid will stick with the 7.  Avellino wagers him 50 Euros that 'his' gets closer to the pin with the 5. Sayid ups the wager to 100. Avellino comments that how we wager makes just about anything more fun. He also asks Sayid what he does for a living.
Sayid- "I do nothing."
He goes on to say he was the recipient of a large settlement.
Nosy Avellino asks-"Corporate merger?"
Sayid-"A plane crash. Oceanic Airlines, flight 815. I’m Sayid Jarrah. One of the Oceanic 6."
This seems to frighten Avellino. He remembers reading all about it. Avellino takes his shot. Sayid remarks about him being right using the 5 iron.
Nervous Avellino tells him to enjoy his round and don’t worry about the wager, "All in good fun."
Sayid insists on paying on the bet. Sayid reveals that he knows this man’s name, pulls out a gun and shoots him right there on the green!
Sayid walks away seemingly unaffected.
The sprinklers go on. {Water}

Sayid enters a cafe. {Passes the 'menu'} He's looking very much like Prince. lol.
He asks a blond woman, in German "Is it free?" {Red walls. Die mauer.}
Sayid is looking at a map.
She {in German}-"Where would you like to go?"
He apparently only knows one sentence in German. He loves Europe,Everyone speaks English."
She asks, "What are you looking for?"
He is looking for Potsdamer Platz. Elsa introduces herself to Sayid. He orders an espresso. The business that brings him to Berlin is, "I’m a headhunter, a corporate recruiter."
Her employer is an economist; he works in emerging markets. She doesn’t understand what he does. It doesn’t matter; all she does is shop for him. {That’s what Sayid does!} If her pager goes off she’s at his side instantly. Her boss is in Berlin once or twice a year.
Elsa-"Do I know you from somewhere?"
He’ll tell her exactly where she knows him from if she lets him take her to dinner. She marks the restaurant she wants to be taken to at 8:00 on his map, "If you can find it."

Sayid enters a number into a cell phone as he walks down the snow and icy street.
"I’ve made contact." He hangs up and throws the phone in the garbage then grabs a hand full of ice and crosses street.

Sayid tells Jack to take a look at the picture he removed from Naomi’s back pack. It’s Desmond and Penny’s picture; she was looking for Desmond. Sayid-"Whatever their real agenda is, it’s clear they’re not sharing it. Maybe Desmond can shed some light on this."
Juliet can go to the beach and back in a couple of hours. Kate assumed she would be asked.
Sayid feels Jack is "not the best candidate for this mission."
Sayid will make Locke release Charlotte without any bloodshed. {Bullet scar on upper left forearm.}
Jack-"As opposed to the way I’d do it?"
Sayid mentions he almost killed Locke the last time he saw him, "That’s not good diplomacy."
Miles will go with Sayid, of course; and he also wants his gun back.
Sayid walks by Miles, "We leave in 10 minutes."

Continuing their trek to the barracks, James asks Ben "Are you ready to give us a name, Gizmo?"
John informs James that Ben won’t tell him the name of the spy on their boat, because that’s the only thing keeping him alive. {Not.}
James-"Here’s an idea. Why don’t we take a gun, point it at his big toe and send that little piggy to market?..."
John doesn’t like the idea, as they would end up having to carry him.
John stops at the ash circle where the cabin should be. He doesn’t see it. Aaron starts fussing; Claire needs to feed him.
Hugo wonders, "Maybe we got turned around. It could be anywhere."
Ben reveals to James that John needs the cabin because he’s looking for someone to tell him what to do next.
John-"I guess I was mistaken. It doesn’t matter. The plan’s the same. We keep moving. The barracks aren’t far."
Danielle tells John that Charlotte’s team is with Jack, which means they know they are headed to the barracks.
James mentions that RED was wearing a vest, so her posse are expecting a gun fight.
Hugo suggests if all they want is "her" they should let her go, "I mean, I thought we were just gonna go hide. Why do we need to take prisoners?"
John explains that they are keeping her because she will be valuable, as a hostage.
Hugo-"Un uh, no, this is not what I signed up for. If we let her go they will look at is as a sign of good faith."
John-"They’ll look at it as an act of foolishness, which is what it would be."
Hugo is just looking to come up with a compromise of some kind.
John-"We’re beyond compromise. And right now, Hugo, I’m making the decisions. Is that gonna be a problem for you?"

Kate shares with Jack the suckiness of being told not to come along, "Now you know what it feels like to be me."
Jack asks her if that means he should wait 20 minutes and go anyway? {Touché!}
Jack tells her she should go with them; he doesn’t trust Locke.
Kate-"So what’s preventing him from doing to me what he did to Naomi?" {WTF?}
Jack-"Sawyer won’t let him."
Kate and her gun go ask Sayid and Miles if they've got room for one more. Sayid informs her the gun’s a last resort.
Kate-"You give Locke that same speech?"
Miles-"Let's move out."
The little group heads into the jungle.

Frank asks Jack where Sayid is from.
Jack-"Iraq."
Frank-"Iraq. He's just gonna work everything out? What was he, a diplomat?"
Jack tells him no, he was a torturer. This confuses Frank.

Sayid looks at the bracelet again. He asks Miles how well he knew Naomi and notes he’s not affected by her death. Miles reveals he just met her on the boat; she was hot and he dug her accent. {Affected by her death, maybe she’s not dead or human! Lol} Apparently he doesn’t care for Charlotte very much.
Sayid-"So much for camaraderie."
Miles-"Yeah, Gee, who’s the one going after one of their crash buddies with a guns."
Miles cares about Locke. He wants to know how Locke split their happy little family in half.
Sayid explains the fundamental debate "as to whether your people were coming to rescue us?"
Miles asks what side did he land on.
Sayid-"I’ll let you know when I decide."

Elsa opens the door to Sayid. They are dressed for a night at the opera; she is taking him. {Red dress, hanky. She looks old fashioned, music and apartment has old fashioned touches.}
This is their 5th date. They stand in front of the mirror and he puts on her necklace for her. She is wearing a silver bracelet. {Looks more like a handcuff.}
Elsa decides not to take her pager, "If tonight’s the night he calls, so be it."
Sayid offers to carry the pager for her, "If he does call, I don’t want you fired over me. You should tell your employer there is new technology."
She mentions her boss is very old fashioned.
Elsa-"Do you have a boss?"
Sayid-"Everyone has a boss, Elsa."
She asks him why is he still there, in Berlin. He originally told her he’d be there for one week.
Sayid-"The job I’m on is proving harder to accomplish than I thought."
Elsa was hoping it was because of her.
Sayid-"Let’s go. Strauss awaits."

Watch Dan wander around to find a place to set up his gadget.
{case and a large metal pole, equipment and; tripod from the helicopter
Jack asks Frank what Daniel’s story is. Frank tells him he couldn’t tell him because half the stuff Dan says goes over his head.
Dan asks Frank permission to use the phone to call Regina on the boat; he’d like to do an experiment. Frank gives him the phone and tells him to keep it to the science stuff, "If Minkowski gets on there you hang up right away."
Dan agrees and calls Regina.
The phone rings and she picks up right away. {No delay.}
Dan puts Regina on speaker so he can prepare for the experiment at the same time. All equipment is working properly. He’s all set, has a fix and asks her if she’s locked in.
Jack watches.
Regina-"I’m getting your signal pretty clear." {What? No interference? No Delay? HA!}
Dan-"Fire the pay load."
Regina-"Pay load away."
Frank tells Jack, he does this kind of stuff on the boat all the time."
Regina gives play by play of the pay load…40 kilometers to beacon…35….30….25 to….20…15….1 0…. He should have it but he doesn’t.
Regina calls it weird.

The three arrive at the barracks.
Miles wonders "What’s with the swing set? These people had daycare?"
Kate wonders "if they’re here yet?"
They hear noises; it’s coming from Juliet’s house. {Kate has really great hearing!}
The house is ransacked and they can struggle noises coming from the closet.
It’s Hurley; tied and gagged. Kate removes his gag.
Hurley tells her, "They left me."
Hurley-"Locke’s gone off the reservation……..hostage, he says Walt was the one who told him to kill this other chick."
Hurley was trying to not argue with Locke so he would just ’CHILL’.
Miles wants Tubby to stop babbling, "Where did they go?"
Hurley-"Oh Awesome. The ship sent us another Sawyer."
Hurley doesn’t know where they went, they were freaked, "Locke said the people on the ship were here to rescue Charlotte and then kill us. So... Are you?" he asks Miles.
Miles seems to be zoning in on something.
Miles turns to Hurley-"Not yet." {And Sayid and Kate don’t respond to that comment? Why?}
Hurley tells Sayid that Locke said they were going by Ben’s house before they took off, "For all I know they could have locked Ben up in a closet too."
Miles wants to know where Ben’s house is.

Jack asks Frank-"The red socks really win the series?"
Frank-"Hey, don’t get me started on that, all right? My dad’s from the Bronx. I bleed Yankee blue."
Jack can’t believe it’s been 100 days since he’s seen a game."
Beeping.
Daniel is alerted. The pay load/rocket has arrived. It is shown to be 31:18 minutes off/ahead.
Dan feels "This is not good."
Frank notes in perfect timing that Jack’s friends are back. Desmond and Juliet are pleased to see the helicopter.

Sayid leads the group into Ben’s house where they are looking for clues to where they have gone. Armed Kate enters Ben’s room. {Along with the masks and stuff. Why does he have a bathroom scale in there?} The closet’s empty.
Sayid looks at books on the shelf.
Almost as if he knew he crouches down and moves the book case away from the wall. This reveals another large closet filled with clothes, shoes, passports; it’s, money from all over the world. {Did Hurley know Ben was hiding something in a closet?}

Sawyer enters Ben’s room and holds his "Shhh finger up" so Kate will be quiet. She holds the gun to him then she calls out for Sayid! He runs for her.
Locke pulls a gun on him, "Don’t worry, Kate’s fine."
We discover Hugo lured them all into Locke’s trap. {STAR WARS!}

Danielle moves her prisoner, Sayid; he wants to know where Locke is. Hugo-"He’s talking to that angry Chinese guy."
Sayid tells Hurley he’s not going to hurt him. But Hurley is concerned because he saw him snap that guys neck with that break dancing thing he does with his legs, "I think I’ll hang back here."

Apparently the new Brig is the Game/Rec room.
Sayid is delivered there while Ben is already there. Ben tells him he lost a dollar bet with John; he bet that Sayid "wouldn’t be stupid enough to fall for your friend as bait." {So Locke told Ben what he was going to do?!!}
Sayid-"What do you know about friendship?"
Ben knows it’s no use having friends you can’t trust.
Kate asks Sawyer if she’s his prisoner; she asks what he’s doing there with Locke.
Sawyer-"I’m not with him."
She feels he is.
Sawyer asks what she’s doing with Jack.
Kate-"I went with Jack because I believe he can get us off of this island."
That’s the difference between them, he ain’t looking to leave. He doesn’t have anything back there for him.
Kate-"And what’s here that’s so much better?"
He asks why she wants to go back, "I seem to recall you being shuttled off to jail before we landed here. So if you think there’s anything waiting for you other than handcuffs, then you really don’t know how the world works." He’s happy with where they are. They have roofs over their heads, electricity, showers, food, beds etc.
Kate-"For how long, Sawyer? How long do you think we can play house?"
He would like to find out.

Locke delivers the prisoners Iced Tea and says, "I’m sorry about all the theatrics but, a, I didn’t know how many of you there’s be, whether you’d be armed. I had to cover my bases."
He tells Sayid Kate is with Sawyer and Miles is somewhere else. All he did was ask Miles some questions but he didn’t answer any. He didn’t particularly have answers from Charlotte either. {Because Ben gave the answers for that!} Sayid wants Miles turned over to him.
John- "Why would I do that?"
Sayid agrees these people are liars and they’re certainly not there to rescue them. Sayid goes on to explain if he returns safely with Charlotte they will take him to their ship. It’s their best chance of finding out who they are and what they really want.
John shares with Sayid that Ben says he has a spy on the boat.
Sayid-"Who?"
Ben-"It’s a secret."
Sayid-"Forgive me, but the day I start trusting him, is the day I would have sold my soul. Give me Charlotte! Allow me to do things my way, or a war is coming which we will both be powerless to stop."
John asks why he would give her to him for nothing.
Sayid didn’t expect him to give her to him for nothing. {John pours and drinks the ice tea. Never gives any to the other two.}

Sayid and Elsa in bed. {Silver bracelet, black, white, red, gray, mirrors.} Elsa refers to the fact at some point Sayid will have to leave to go to his job; the one he never talks about. He says it’s just a job.
Elsa shares that she knows nothing about him. She understands he doesn’t want to talk about the crash, but what about life now, "What about you? That’s what you do when you’re in love, right?"
Sayid-"No more secrets. What do you want to know?"
On cue, the pager goes off! Guess who?! The boss!
Elsa-"He’s here. My boss."
Elsa looks at the pager in front of a mirror; she has to go to some hotel. She’s in the bathroom getting dressed and Sayid tells her she has to leave Berlin, "You can’t be here anymore. People will be asking questions soon. About what happened to your employer. And you can’t be around to answer them."
She appears surprised, "This is about my boss? Who are you?"
Sayid was meant to meet her at the café. He used her to get to her boss. She starts to cry "you gonna kill him? Do you even know him?"
She runs the water in the bathroom.
Sayid reveals "His name is on a list." The list came from his employer.
She asks who his boss is.
Sayid reveals the man she is working for is not an economist! {She gets lots of mirror time!}
Elsa shoots Sayid and calls someone on the phone, speaks German; something about her supposedly to be called at 10:30. And no, she didn’t kill him- "He’s not going to give up the name now. Should I kill him?"
She will bring him to whoever she is speaking to on the phone, "Leave the hotel. I’ll meet you at the safe house."
Sayid throws something breaking the mirror on purpose to cause a distraction, grabs a gun and shoots her; 2 shots!
Sayid cries over her body while touching the bracelet.

Desmond is going to ask Frank one last time, "Why was Naomi carrying this picture of me?"
Frank tells Des that he has to understand that she was Senior Management; it’s not like they hung around the cafeteria together.
Des explains to Frank that Naomi told him "that you people were hired by her" points to Penny. "So you look me right in the eye and tell me, you’ve never seen or heard of Penelope Widmore?"
{Frank and Dan give each other the ’UH OH look} Des will find someone to tell him the truth. When it takes off, he’s on it! {The chopper.}

Sayid’s back with Charlotte. Sayid tells Jack that Kate decided to stay. Sayid traded Miles for Charlotte.
Filthy Frank feels "You cheated" {Kinda did}
Frank-"Lucky for you that guys nothing but a pain in my ass."
Frank has room for one more. Charlotte doesn’t want to leave because{WTF?} "I’ve got work to do."
Dan will stay with Charlotte.
Dan whispers to Frank, "Be sure to follow the same exact bearing that we came in on, OK? No matter what. By that I mean, no matter what. Just stay on it."
Frank-"ROGER THAT."
As much as Jack likes helicopter rides, he’ll stay. {For Kate I’m sure.}
Jack wishes Sayid luck and tells him to"Send me a postcard." {WOW!!! WHAT DOES JACK KNOW?}
Sayid wants to take Naomi’s body, "We should bring Naomi home."
They looked relaxed in the chopper. It takes off and they fly away.

We get a shot of dog kennels in a Vets office. A voice {off camera} tells Sayid to take his shirt off. {Why is the voice slightly disguised? We can tell who it is. Is it a clue to Sayid’s ’state’ not being clear?! Hmmmm?} "Is she dead?"
Sayid says yes.
The voice asks "Why didn’t she kill you?"
Sayid is crying, "She was trying to get information from me."
The voice/Dr. is treating the bullet wound. It is Ben. {Looks like it anyway.} He asks if he’s crying because it hurts or stupid enough to care for her. He tells Sayid these people don’t deserve our sympathies, "Need I remind you what they did the last time you thought with your heart, instead of your gun."
Sayid-"You used that into recruiting me into killing for you."
Ben-"You wanna protect your friends, or not, Sayid?"
Ben tells Sayid he has another name for him.
Sayid-"But they know I’m after them now."
Ben-"Good."

The Economist is a GREAT EPISODE!

Things to note…Questions to ask.

* Somebody get Danielle a fucking bra! PLEEEEEEEASE!
* Another Sawyer- A different Sayid? …2 of ....
* MASKS. Ben’s house is full of masks.
* Meditation
* The Boston Red Socks- Cover my bases- Christian.
* How and when are all these back and forth trips occurring?
* Do they leave one "island" only to go to another "island" or ’place’?
* Naomi was NOT wearing a bracelet in Through the Looking Glass.
* Are things like bracelets, songs, vans, cats, etc., Triggers for certain hallucinations/visions to happen?
* I’ve asked this before and I’ll ask it again…How old is ’Ben?’ How old is everyone else?
* Frank says Sayid "cheated." Trade. GAME.
* Frank -The Bronx. Rose is from the Bronx.
* Told NOT to talk to Minkowski.
* Daniele=Savant?
* Old fashioned because they are OLD? The Flashes had such an older time period feel to it.
* Spies, Spies everywhere. Was Sayid always a spy for Ben? Do Sayid and Ben share a past as well as a possible future? How many other Losties are working on the inside?
* What did they all sign up for...Really?
* Blood. Red. Blue
* What great secrets are being kept by these powerful people? Family, Money. Power. Control….. WORLD DOMINATION! MWAHAHA!!!

* Sayid ’claims’ to be one of the Oceanic 6. His role happens to be an extension of torturer. Hit man. Yet the word diplomat is associated with him. I find that very important.
* Desmond is in the CO-PILOT SEAT!   That is VERY, VERY important!!
* ’Ben’ is still in control of things but who’s ’Ben’s’ boss? He can go back and forth between the island and elsewhere. He wears many masks,different identities too.
* Water. Cold. Ice. Are these clues to the listening station? Or a symbol of the cold hearted side of a person? Or a clue to the ’island’ itself?!! Where it is? What’s black and white and red all over?!!
* Are there people who look identical but are different? I’ll ask this again, are we seeing events from 2 separate sets of people?
* Are they really ever out of the ’force field/confines’ of the "Island"?
* The Oceanic 6…Not what we assume it is?

Vocabulary and Research...
**The following Clue Words and Research can be found in the original Episode Clues Blog for this episode. You can find them by heading back to that post titled- LOST. THE WORLD OF Espionage.
Minkowski, Pager, Economist, Faraday, Electromagnetism-Electromagnet. Tea. Crystal Ball/Sphere.
* A diplomat is someone who represents a government in its relations with other governments.
* Seychelles: officially the Republic of Seychelles (French), is an archipelago nation of 155 islands in the Indian Ocean, some 1,500 kilometers east of mainland Africa, northeast of the island of Madagascar. Other nearby island countries and territories include Zanzibar to the west.
* Head Hunter- One who recruits senior personnel for a company.
* A savage who cuts off the heads of his enemies and preserves them as trophies.
* The novel is set in a dystopic Toronto, Ontario buffeted by a mysterious plague called sturnusemia, which is believed to be carried by starlings. Against this backdrop, a schizophrenic spiritualist "of intense but undisciplined powers".
* Espionage is usually part of an institutional effort (i.e.,governmental or corporate espionage), and the term is most readily associated with state spying on potential or actual enemies, primarily for military purposes, but this has been extended to spying involving corporations, known specifically as industrial espionage.

The reason I use the word espionage is because Frank asks if Sayid is a diplomat….Diplomatic immunity?!
Another word for espionage or words associated with it… intelligence, reconnaissance, secret service, shadowing, tailing, undercover operations, undercover work,underground activities, agent, beagle, detective, double agent, emissary, espionage agent,foreign agent, informer, inside man,intelligencer, investigator,lookout, mole,narc, observer,
operative, patrol, picket, plant, scout, secret agent,
secret service, sleeper, sleuth, snoop, spook, spotter, undercover agent, watcher.
ALL OF THOSE FIT OUR STORY!

Permanent magnets occur naturally in some rocks. I.e.. Lodestone.
You can use magnets in magic.
* Dog- In Greek mythology Cerberus, 3 headed dog guarded gates of the realm of the dead and acted as a spirit guide. Dogs are also a symbol of faithfulness and protectiveness, of blind love and obedience.
* Silver is a symbol and link to the moon. It’s bright but it tarnishes. Symbolizing the corruptible side of human nature, which needs cleaning.
* Diplomacy is a strategic board game in 1954 and released commercially in 1959. Its main distinction from most board war games is negotiation: Players spend much of their time forming (and betraying) alliances with other players.

Here are a few things before I end this painfully long post…
Let me tell you what pissed me off….Daniel radio’s the ’boat’…there is NO DELAY in communications with the boat, yet there is a delay in the payload arriving. Anyone care to explain that!? Don’t tell me it’s a plot hole. They show us an episode with Hurley and Sayid listening to "In the mood" on the radio. Sayid comments it could be coming from any place and Hurley comments it could be coming from any time. So, how come radio waves delay isn’t?

Could our Cerberus be...Locke, Hurley and Walt?

This episode reminded me of this game- AT-43, the science fiction war game developed by the French miniatures company. It’s a very, very interesting game! Please go read up on it!

Boy, Sayid falls in love fast! Thinks with his heart. That doesn’t make for a good soldier or killing machine, huh? His emotions are human while his skills are mechanical.

Biggest discovery of this episode besides no time delay with the payload…Sayid does NOT have a bullet scar where Mikhail shot him in Enter 77 before Elsa shoots him in the apartment.
So when or who are the FLASHES from…REALLY?

This episode is about war. Lots of negotiations going on and deals being made, trades and cheating! Loyalty my friends, lets not forget loyalty.

Still the bottom line here…They keep getting pulled back to the "Island"! They all are connected! Always have been! Always will be!

Love to all who are "LOST"™
SAYID'S APPEARING AND DISAPPEARING BULLET SCAR!
