LA X (part 2)

Let's talk about LOST! LA X (part 2)

The men move unconscious Sayid to the stretcher for transport, while Sawyer prepares to bury Juliet. Hurley brings the guitar case; informing Miles it’s not a guitar.

Kate offers to help Sawyer dig the hole to bury Juliet but he tells her to help Sayid. Sawyer asks Miles to hang back with him. Miles agrees to stay with his boss. Kate will be sure to leave a trail so Sawyer can follow it, but Sawyer shares that he’s not following anybody.
Jack gives weak Sayid some water to drink. Hurley is ready to go to the hole in the wall. Jack looks back to note Sawyer having to deal with his loss.

The two small groups head off in two different directions. Jin and Jack carry Sayid on the stretcher.
Jin leads them to the big wall that surrounds the temple.
Jack wonders how they’re going to get him over the top. Hurley shows them the hole they’re going to bring him through.
Inside the “hole” Hurley guides Jin and Jack with Sayid with the flashlight. Hurley notes the passageway. They come across a skeleton where Kate dumps out the contents of the bag once belonging to this man.
Hurley picks up the book and asks “Who brings a book into a cave?”
Kate finds the lighter and lights the torch that was left near the skeleton. Hurley wonders why the guy's arm is missing.
Jin reveals the arm was ripped off when he was attacked by the black smoke. Of course Hurley feels this is gonna be awesome.
They come to another deep hole/well in the ground that must be passed by literally watching their step.
Kate is first to make it passed the dangerous well, followed by Hurley and his guitar case. While Jin and Jack very cautiously make their way over the well, Kate alone takes a look around and hears whispers.

This scene is very important in that we’re shown Kate get turned around a few times in what feels like a head-trippy kind of way and there is a “Flash Whoosh” feel to the music.

Jack realizes Kate’s gone. He runs through the passageways with the flashlight looking for Kate then hears the guys involved in a scuffle. Jack is calling out for Hurley and you can hear Hurley yell out for Jin.
Jack hears whispers and catches a glimpse of someone run by in the distance. This sequence also shows us Jack get turned around and head-trippy; almost dream-like.

Jack is attacked by someone and knocked out.
The marshal, Edward Mars, declares Kate a murderer at the customs counter. The officer stamps her passport booklet.
Cuffed
Kate needs to go to the bathroom and the marshal actually wants her to hold it. Lol
Kate-“I can’t.”
The marshal thinks kiddo can, he believes in her.
Kate calls him Edward with such familiarity and ease.
Edward checks out the bathroom {No Smoking sign}.
He gives Kate 2 minutes in the ladies room. Right away Kate goes to work on unlocking the cuffs with a pen she disassembles for a tool. She drops the spring {The whole time we are hearing the distant voices of people in the airport.} from the pen mechanism.
Edward steps on the spring when he walks over to see if Kate’s done.
Kate isn’t done and he’s suspicious.
Edward- “Alright! Time’s up!”
Kate wants one minute. Edwards bangs on the door demand she come out and Kate insists she’s not finished; she’s still working on the lock. When Edward gets in close to the stall door to threaten her Kate, still cuffed kicks open the door beats him up and smashes his head against the counter top. Once he’s knocked out Kate takes his gun and jacket.
Two women enter the ladies room and Kate makes up a story about this man attacking her and she pushed him, “I..I just need to get out of here.”

The 2nd floor elevator door is closing and Kate yells out “Hold the door!”
Sawyer welcomes her aboard. Kate hides her cuffed hands under the jacket. Sawyer reminds her they were on the same flight; Sydney. Kate doesn’t seem impressed. Sawyer notices she’s cuffed.
Two TSA agents get on the elevator {South elevator headed to ground} and are radioed with instructions to get their asses to international baggage claim; they have a 341.
Curious Sawyer says that sounds serious and asks, “What’s a 341?”
One agent tells him it’s confidential.
Sawyer-“Well if it’s confidential how the hell am I supposed to know when I see one?” {Should he be privy to this confidential info?}
The elevator arrives at G and Sawyer lets the “lady” out first. Sexy Sawyer smiles at her and tells her to take care.
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
Sawyer finishes burying Juliet.
Miles still calls him Boss which Sawyer immediately tells him to stop doing, “You aint my Deputy anymore.”
Miles wonders if Sawyer’s thirsty as he thinks he saw some beers in the van.
All Sawyer is interested in is what Juliet wanted to tell him before she died so he kept Miles back there with him so Miles can talk to a dead person.
Miles-“Jim. That’s not how it works.”
He feels it doesn’t matter what she wanted to say and it’s not going to help; she’s gone. Sawyer insists Miles “ask her” so he physically pushes Miles down on top of the fresh grave. Sawyer knows she’s gone, “Now tell me.”
Sawyer leaves Miles to his “work”.
So Miles puts his hands on the grave and does his trance-head trippy-glitchy thingy he does and declares, “It worked.”
That’s Juliet’s message.
Sawyer-“What worked?” He just walks away from Miles.

Two armed men drag semi unconscious Jack and exit out two doors {similar to the medical station.} He is reunited with Kate, Jin, Hurley and unconscious Sayid. They are led to the grand temple.
Hurley-“Guess we found the temple.” {Took ya long enough!}

At the airport we see Kate being escorted by Edward; they are on line and Jack waiting on another line. Oceanic passenger Jack Shephard is being paged and asked to go to the nearest courtesy desk.
The man at the Oceanic counter meant to meet him at the gate and informs Jack that there seems to have been a mix up involving the cargo he checked in Sydney.
Jack-“Cargo”
Oceanic agent-“Yes sir, a coffin.”
Jack-“I don’t…I don’t understand I mean are you saying that’s it’s not here?”
Oceanic agent-“It appears it was never put on the plane.”
Jack starts panicking as the funeral is in two hours, “When is it getting here?”
The agent is deeply sorry but they don’t know when it will arrive because they’re not exactly sure where it is.
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
The detainees are brought to the entry of the temple by their barefooted, bland clothes wearing Other captors. A very important Asian man {Dogen} meets them and uses his translator to help with communicating with them. {He wears a black leather type vest}
Dogen asks, ”Who are you?”
A woman states she knows who they are, “They were on the first plane. Oceanic 815 along with me.”
This is long haired Cindy the flight attendant.
Dogen speaks only in Japanese, “They should not have come here. Seeing this place is unforgivable.” {Hurley pays attention.}
Nonchalantly Lennon the interpreter instructs, “Shoot them.”
Before the detainees can be shot Hurley blurts out “Jacob sent us!”
This gets Dogen’s attention.
Hurley shares that “He said, you would help our friend.” pointing to Sayid.
Dogen wants red shirted Hurley to prove it so Hurley presents the guitar case which Dogen opens to reveal a large wood Ankh.
Of course Hurley may have had himself a peek at the contents earlier.

Dogen breaks the Ankh over his knee to reveal there is a note hidden inside it.  He reads the note and Lennon asks them their names.
Hurley doesn’t hesitate, “Hugo. Hugo Reyes.”
That doesn’t seem important to Dogen. The rest tell them their names at Hugo’s urging. Jack tells him Sayid Jarrah’s name; and with the information Dogen needed he has his people pick up Sayid instructing them to bring him to the spring.
Thy start walking back into the temple but Hugo has something he wants. “Hey, excuse me, I carried that case across the ocean and like.. through time. So I wanna know what that paper says.”
Lennon- “The paper said that if your friend there dies, we're all in a lot of trouble.” {Really?! How many times are we going to get the whole “doom” bullshit statement from people?}

Jin and Sun are customs with an agent checking their baggage. {Sign-Article to Declare} The agent sees the Rolex watch and asks Jin what business he is in.
Jin replies in poor English-“No English.”
He presents a letter on Paik letterhead to the agent mentioning the watch is a business gift but the agent still wants to know what business he’s in.
Jin just points to the letter. The frustrated agent starts looking through the suitcase and this gets Jin worked up; he feels everything should be in order and even tries to get the agent to move away insisting he has an appointment to get to.
The agent finds a large amount of American money. Anything over 10 thousand dollars has to be declared and he didn’t declare it. Sun is nervous and wonders why Jin has all that money. The agent needs Jin to go with him to have a talk even though Jin doesn’t have time.
Ann is instructed to take Sun to the waiting area.
Ann- “Ms. Paik, do you understand any English? Because if you do, if this is just a misunderstanding, you should speak up now. Do you understand me?”
Sun just stares and says, “No. English.”
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
Dogen leads them through a courtyard with more Others and children.
They enter a small building that contains a spring. {There are Hieroglyphs}
Lennon wonders what happened to it as the water isn’t clear, “What happened?”
Dogen doesn’t know but he cuts a slit into his palm and puts his hand into the tainted water; he hand doesn’t heal.

Dogen asks who did this to “him”/Sayid.
Jack takes they blame and admits he didn’t shoot him, “It’s my
fault.”

Dogen puts on the fingerless glove he wore on his left hand back on after cutting it to test the spring.
Lennon translates to Jack that if they do this there are risks, “Do you understand?”
Kate looks skeptical. {Shouldn’t Kate know all of this already from when she brought young Ben to the temple?!}
Jack wants them to do what they have to do. This comment by Jack even surprises Jin.
The Others take off Sayid’s coveralls and put him into the spring.

Dogen turns over an hourglass and Sayid’s head is held underwater. This concerns Jack but not the Others. The timer is key in Sayid’s stay under the water.
Hurley-“Can unconscious people hold their breath?”
Jack-“No.”
They see Sayid start to struggle while his head is still forcefully submerged. The Others continue to hold Sayid under the water as he fights for air.
Jack tells Dogen-“He’s awake. Let em up.”
Dogen looks over at the sand keeping time in the hourglass.
Upset Jin wonders what the Others are waiting for. Pissed off Jack goes to attack Dogen, “Let him up!”

Dogen karate chops Jack and continues to watch the timer as the Others work hard to keep Sayid submerged.
Upset Hurley yells, “You're not saving him! You're drowning him!”
Sayid stops struggling and the timer runs out of sand.
Lennon informs Jack, “Your friend is dead."
Jack tries to resuscitate Sayid and in true Kate form she wants Jack to stop trying to revive a dead person. “He's not coming back, stop it!”
Jack stops.
Sayid is in the airport waiting at the carousel for his bags. He’s looking at a photo of Nadia. Arzt looks at him bizarre.

Cuffed Kate is trying to make her getaway from the airport. She watches a female worker enter a code on a keypad to enter a door that says No Entry. Kate uses the code to this door that ultimately leads her to an exit up onto the street level. {The PA announces this is a NON Smoking Facility.}

Once outside Kate tries to grab a taxi ahead of other travelers but is told by annoyed Frogurt, “There’s a line. There’s a line!”

Hurley is on that line chatting business on the phone {Something about the Outback, a lawyer, title registration.} “Outback is just a name, what are you sayin', they own the entire outback? That's just stupid. Oh and I didn’t get Tustin inventory report yet.” {Tustin-Locke}

Kate is spotted by Edward and bolts into a taxi that already has a passenger, Claire. Kate pulls a gun on the cabbie demanding he go.
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
The tainted spring is bubbling up. Kate sits on the edge starring into the water. Jack sits quiet by Sayid’s body.

Cindy enters with Zack and Emma; she brought them food and drink.
{Of course the Lostie's don’t ask any questions about anything especially about the kids.}
Others carry in unconscious Sawyer and Miles who reveals they were jumped in the jungle. Sawyer took four of them out before one of them could hit him with a rock.
Lennon comes in to retrieve Hugo to bring to Dogen.

Dogen is trimming his herbs/plants. He speaks Japanese without even turning around to talk to them “Ask him what exactly Jacob said, what instructions he got.” Lennon translates.
Hugo shares Jacob told him to go there and that they would save Sayid.
Apparently He was beyond saving.
Hurley,"Wait a second! You're not translating anything I say to him, which means you totally understand me dude.
Dogen replies in English, "I don't like the way English tastes on my tongue." He wants to know when Jacob is getting there, to the temple. Hurley doesn't think that's going to happen as he reveals to the uninformed duo that Jacob is dead. Apparently this is cause for alarm!
Dogen commands all the armed Others to their posts and to prepare the ash. They batten down the hatches and send up a large "bottle rocket".
Hurley asks Lennon-"I guess we're not getting out of here, huh?"
Lennon-"This is not to keep you in...It's to keep him out!"
Hugo-"Who?" {That's what I'm asking!}

Strong Locke drags the body of one of Bram's guys across the floor while Ben sits and watches.
Ben-"What are you?"
Locke-"I'm not a what, Ben. I'm a who."
Ben accuses Locke of being the "monster". Locke doesn't want to resort to name calling. Ben recounts being used by Locke because he couldn't kill him himself, so he made Ben do it. {Yeah, we've fucking heard this song before. Look in a damn mirror, Ben!}
Locke-"I didn't make you do anything."
Locke feels Ben should know that "he" was very confused when he killed him.
Ben-"I seriously doubt that Jacob was ever confused."
Locke-"I'm not talking about Jacob. I'm talking about John Locke. Do you wanna know what he was thinking while you, choked the life outta him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? 'I don't understand.' Isn't that just the saddest thing you ever heard? {Locke takes a seat in the sunlight} But it's fitting in a way, because when John first came to the island, {sits back into the dark shade} he was a very sad man. A victim, shouting at the world for being told what he couldn't do, even though they were right. He was weak, and pathetic, and irreparably broken. {sits forward into the bright sunlight} But, despite all that, there was something admirable about him. He was the only one of them who didn't wanna leave. The only one, who realized how pitiful the life he'd left behind actually was." {Rose didn't want to leave either!}

Ben asks what he wants.
Locke-"Well that's the great irony here Ben because, I want the one thing that John Locke didn't. I want to go home."

Hurley tells "dead" Sayid goodbye and lets him know if he ever wants to talk, he's around.

Kate tends to injured Sawyer who wakes up wondering where they are. {This reminds me of the scene when he wakes up in the hatch after the Talies returned him to camp}
Kate informs him they're in a temple, they were caught by the Others who appear to be trying to protect them this time {She thinks}.
Jack sits alone in thought as Sawyer tells Kate he's not going to kill Jack because he deserves to suffer on that rock just like the rest of them.
Jack sits in thought.
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
In the baggage service office Jack is on the phone with his mother explaining that the coffin is missing. "You think I knew this was gonna happen?"

Jack scheduled the service so soon because he wanted to get it over with but they can't have the service without him. He'll call her if he hears anything.
Locke is sitting in a wheelchair already filling in paperwork behind Jack.
He asks, "What did you lose?"
They lost one of Locke's bags. Jack feels he wouldn't believe him if he told him. He shares they lost his father who died in Australia a few days ago. The coffin was supposed to go on the plane in Sydney but it didn't. Apparently he's somewhere in transit which is their way of saying they have no idea where the hell he is.
Locke-"Well how could they know?"
Jack feels they're the one who checked him in a have to have some sort of tracking system.
Locke-"No. I'm not talking about the coffin, I mean how could they know where he is? They didn't lose your father, they just lost his body."

{I think Jack understands that part!}
Locke feels Jack's story beats the hell out of his because all that was in his suitcase was a bunch of knives. He hopes he finds his coffin and Jack hopes Locke finds his knives.
Jack asks what happened to him as he's a spinal surgeon.
 Locke-"Oh, no, don't worry about it, uh, surgery isn't gonna do anything to help me, my condition is irreversible."
Confident Jack feel "Nothing is irreversible. Umm, if you ever wanna consult, just uh, gimme a call. Jack hands Locke his business card and tells him it's on the house. {Like he's buying him a drink in a bar.}
Locke thanks him.

The men introduce themselves to each other.
"Jack Shephard."
"I'm John.John Locke."
They shake hands and are happy to have met each other.
{Engine Flash Whoosh}
Richard notes the bottle rocket overhead and it concerns him. He freaks when he sees Ben and Locke emerge out of the statue. Lapidus still doesn't believe what he's seeing.
Ilana and gang aim to shoot Locke but Richard in a panic tells them not to.
Locke walks right up to Richard and tells him it's good to see him out of those chains. {Did Locke just free him?}

Richard is stunned-"You."
Locke-"Me."
Locke roughs him up, knocks him out and announces to the group, "I am very disappointed...in all of you!" {Maybe because they didn't believe.}
He carries unconscious Richard off passing his "dead" half along the way.

Dead Sayid is still with the quiet Lostie's.
Lennon comes in to retrieve Jack; they need to speak to him privately.   Jack feels they can just say what they want there. Lennon doesn't think Jack's understanding him, if he doesn't go freely he will have him dragged out. "Because we are going to have this conversation it's not going to be there. Jack gets into a fight with two of the guys.
Hurley calls for Jack's attention because Sayid is starting to wake up and asks "What happened?"

LA   X was an AMAZING episode!
Locke and Jack "Don't understand", but they're not the only ones who don't.
We still have hints and direction to enlightenment being part of the journey/adventure and game. I mean the entirety of the story has revolved around Dharma, finding what you lost, finding yourself and liberation.
The Lostie's are stuck in cycles of suffering.

Dharma is used to refer to the teachings of the Buddha. A reflection of natural law. A person who lives their life with an understanding of this natural law, is a "Dhammic" person, which is often translated as "righteous".

Liberation, called nirvana in Buddhism, is seen as an end to suffering, rebirth, and ignorance.
The path of Buddhism is not easy. Facing the reality of "the self" can be disturbing. There isn't a magic prayer or chant or act that allows instant 'washing away' of sins, or a pill to cure your ills. It does provide a detailed map to freeing yourself from your perception of suffering.
Dharma also means ‘mental contents’, and is paired with citta, which means heart/mind. Dharma also means the source of things and Truth.

The Buddha teaches the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, the Three Marks of Existence, and other guidelines in order to achieve the freedom and liberation from suffering.

We get many other ties to this way of enlightenment with our nods to Shambala, Yin and Yang, The Enso (circle), The Wheel (Dharma wheel), the hum of OM  and many more examples.

I am very aware the story incorporates many other religions, cultures, philosophy, traditions and science in their narrative regarding redemption and salvation.

Things to Note...Questions to ask...
☯ Hour glass that is more a “few minute” timer. Time. Timer. Time’s up.
☯ Game. Beat. Lost. Lose.
☯ Christian
☯ How is Sayid reanimated? {brought back to life-reborn}
☯ Reflecting pool-Mirror image- 2way mirror- see yourself.
☯ Communication. Translation. Mis-communication, misunderstanding and not “getting it” is what we’re seeing here, i.e. "Not understanding."
☯ Locke/Smoke monster wants to go home.  Jack is almost home.  The objective of the journey is to go home. "Home" may be the “home base” of the game. I also think it may mean that “home” is when he finally "finds himself" or whatever he’s looking for, then literally can go back into society and go home a new man.
☯ Is the "black smoke" a tool that can be used by either side or is it strictly a "power" that is only part of one person? {Or two or three).
☯"WHO IS GUARDING THE GATE?" Is there literally a 3 headed watch dog?
Cerberus. I mention this back in the episode Cabin Fever when I noted 3 baby cribs in John Locke’s nursery.  Would we see the "Black smoke" use three bodies? I'm just asking.
☯ The people at the temple must have realized Sayid was going to "die" but still followed Jacob's request.
☯ Somebody better declare Claire already! lol
☯ Jack and his coffins!
☯ Head. Ringing. Voices. Glitch. Dream-like. Unconscious. Unconscious sleep. Neurological.
☯These engine Flash Whoosh sound like they can be running in reverse at times.
☯“Island” and Oceanic/LA events still blur together. With that I still feel they are not out of the “confines” of the “island”.
☯ Aboard is a term used when on a ship or vessel. Or a board- game board.
☯ The segments I pointed out in the “caves” with Kate and Jack’s experience seemed to be almost dream-like.
☯ I still get that video game feel once in a while.
☯ Sawyer lost Juliet twice.
☯ “It worked” supposedly was Juliet’s message to Jim. What worked? That could mean anything! That young Ben got healed in the spring, that Sawyer ends up with Kate, that she redeemed herself and is out of the game...
☯ What role does Sawyer play in this Oceanic go-around?
☯ There seems to always be a way to physically go down deeper and deeper.
☯ Failed a test.
☯ Language. Linguistics. Translator. Letter. Hieroglyphics. Characters. Code. Keypad. Numbers.
☯ Kate told Mrs. Littleton that she was “going back” to look for her
daughter/Claire.
☯ Kumbaya.
☯ Is Jin hiding something else in his suitcase? A ring perhaps?
☯ Could the "X" stand for 10 or 10th?
☯ “Knight” has been hinted at Locke in Cabin Fever

☯ Jack and Locke may be able to let go of the things they weren't able to let go of before.
☯ Was Jacob bringing people there to use as bodyguards; did he need protection from Locke?
☯ Did Locke need protection from Jacob or was he being held prisoner by Jacob?
☯ Keep these things in mind: "We are the causes of our own suffering", ", Only fools are enslaved by time and space", "Everything changes"  and ..."God loves you as he loved Jacob."
☯ Sun and Jin are in the same place/"time and space" on the "Island" and at Oceanic.
☯ Who has murder in their heart?
☯ If Hurley "could" also "talk" to dead people couldn't he have "listened" to what Juliet's message was?
If Sayid was really dead shouldn't Miles and Hurley hear him since they're supposed to be "conversing" with dead people?
☯ Locke was not the only one who didn't want to leave...Rose didn't either!
☯Could "time" be irrelevant? Could the only "time" that matters is the game "timer"?

Vocabulary and Research...
* A chain is a series of connected links.
- Chain -sequence.
- "chainmail", a type of armor made of interlocking chain links.
* Fetter (Buddhism): a deeply rooted mental attachment preventing one from achieving liberation from suffering.
* Ankh-'key of life', 'the key of the Nile'. Hieroglyphic character that read "Eternal life". Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest.
* Spring- one of four seasons; transition period between winter and summer.
   2). A new beginning.   3). start to exist; be born, come into being, come into existence.    4). Jump or leap.
- A coil spring (mechanical device)
* Crainte et tremblement- The book in the Temple is "Fear and Trembling" (original title: Frygt og Bæven), a philosophical work by Danish philosopher, theologian, and psychologist Søren Aabye Kierkegaard, published in 1843 under the pseudonym Johannes de silentio (John the Silent). In the book Kierkegaard introduces the “Knight of Faith” and contrasts him with the "knight of infinite resignation". The latter gives up everything in return for the infinite, that which he may receive after this life, and continuously dwells with the pain of his loss. The former, however, not only relinquishes everything, but also trusts that he will receive it all back, his trust based on the "strength of the absurd".
* Kigen Dogen-(1200 – 1253) Japanese philosopher and “Zen Master".
- "Dgen" For the Sega Mega Drive emulator.
* The Knight's Tour is a mathematical problem involving a knight on a chessboard. The knight is placed on the empty board and moving according to the rules of chess, must visit each square exactly once.

This was a great way to start the season. We see a slightly different version of Oceanic plane events but we still must wonder when it is from.   Yet the Lostie's on the "Island" have all their memories of their time on the "Island" and of the incident involving the "core" (which is derived from Latin for heart) of the hydrogen bomb.

I am still being very cautious of who is on which side. I will assume nothing! Locke is determined and appears to be on a mission to not let Jacob confine him any longer, and seems to have freed others from that as well. Dogen hears of Jacob's death and kicks into "protection" mode, but what and who he protecting himself and everyone from?

I love when Locke/Smokey was describing the broken Locke and he was in the dark and when he spoke about the side of Locke that was admirable he was in the light. This is two sides of the same person.  And yes I say person because Locke even tells Ben he is not a "what", he is a "who".
Is it safe to assume who is in whose body?

In the past I have described Locke the paralyzed man as emotionally paralyzed and unable to move forward. Even though he tried he seemed to have taken one step forward and two steps back. Did {or does} irreparably broken Locke get fixed? What about Jack?

Here is a Zen saying that could connect to what we saw tonight...
"To gain enlightenment you must want it as much as a man whose head is held under water wants air."

The objective of the adventurous game is still to discover who you are, truly see yourself, heal from your past, discover the new you, become enlightened, then and only then do you… get to go “Home”.

Love to all who are “LOST”™

PART 1 of LA X

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.

Special

Let's talk about LOST! Special.

Open eye.
Michael calls out looking for Walt.
Charlie walks up asking Michael if he’s seen Claire’s bags.
Michael-“Have you seen my son?”
Charlie- “You seen her bags?”
Michael- “Claire’s?”
Charlie- “Her luggage. It’s not been brought back here. No one seems to know what happened to it.”
Michael apologizes, he doesn’t know; he’s just looking for Walt. Charlie hasn’t seen Walt. Jack {Key around neck} walks up carrying firewood. Michael asks Jack if he’s seen his boy out there.
Jack says no, “He was at the caves.”
Michael shares Walt took his dog for a walk and he told him to stay close as usual.
Michael-“You listened to your old man when you were 10, right?”
Jack claims to have listened a little too well.
Hurley comes over to tell the two dudes he has a new tourney lined up. They’re playing for the last of the deodorant sticks, “You dogs up for some golf?”
Michael has to go find his kid. “If Walt shows up tell him I said stay here until I get back.”
Michael continues his search.
Hurley mentions to Jack that Michael seems to hate being a dad.
Jack-“Nah. It’s just…a lot of hard work.”
Michael continues calling out for Walt.
Hurley scoffs and says, “Nah. He hates it.”
“Walt!” Michael is pissed. He continues his search through the jungle.
{Flash Whoosh}

“This is the one.” Michael and Susan are in the store looking at baby cribs. He’s excited he’s found “My baby’s crib.”
Susan looks at the price tag and remarks it will look great in the alley they’ll be living in. “This is three months rent.”
Michael wants the best for this kid but Susan insists they can't afford this. Michael feels their baby in this crib is a happy kid. {Note the store has items corresponding to the island.}
Michael tells Susan he talked to Andy and he can send some work Michael’s way.
Susan-“Construction? What about your art?”
Michael assures her he’s not giving it up, just taking a break until she finishes law school. “Pass the bar, get hired by some fancy ass high paying law firm.”
He’ll get back to painting eventually. Meanwhile Susan can support him and Walt in the manner to which they soon will be accustomed. Michael wants to name him after his dad.
Susan- “Walter. Walter Lloyd.”
Michael- “Lloyd? Oh, all right. That's why you won't marry me. It's not that you think marriage is too prosaic; you just want him to have your last name.”
Susan- “Hey. You want me to agree to Walter or what?”
{Flash Whoosh}

In the jungle Locke hands Walt a knife.
Boone and Vincent {Collar/leash.} are watching.
Walt throws the knife at the tree and it doesn’t penetrate it.
Walt-“Man, I suck!”
Locke-“You can do better than that.”
Boone-“You might want to take it easy on him.” {On whom?}
Locke explains-"See this knot Walt…I want you to aim for it. Right here. Focus on it…alright? Picture it…in your mind's eye. You know what that is, the mind's eye?”
Walt knows it’s like a picture in your head.
Locke tells him to do it again but, “See it. See it before you do it. Visualize the path. See it. See it.” {It's kind of like using the force, like a Jedi. Also note Locke touches Walt’s hand.}
Walt focuses. We get a shot of Vincent. Walt throws the knife and sticks his mark! Boone is impresses and Locke knew Walt had it in him.
Walt-“It was weird. I actually saw it in my mind or something, like it was real.”
Locke- “Who's to say it wasn’t?”
Michael comes upon them and he’s pissed! He takes the knife from Walt and tells him to take Vincent and go back to camp now.
Michael- “You gave my boy a knife.”
Locke- “You should’ve seen what…”
Michael-“Don’t tell me what I should’ve seen, man! We were back home I’d call the police on your ass! Encouraging a kid to sneak away from his parent, giving him a knife like this!”
Locke- “Walt knows his own mind.”
Michael pulls the knife on Locke. “Ah, don’t talk to me about my son like you know him.” Locke needs Michael to calm down.
Michael-“You keep playing my son against me…and I’m gonna have a p…”
Boone tackles Michael and holds the knife to him, “The man said calm down.”
Michael punches Boone and says, “What are you his attack dog?”
Michael was the one waving the knife around and Boone was just trying to make sure Michael didn’t hurt someone.
Locke knows it’s been difficult for Michael to bond with his son. “You know why he’s formed an attachment to me? Cause I treat him like an adult and you still treat him like a boy.”
Michael- “He’s 10 years old!”
Locke says he’s been through more than most people in their entire lifetimes and Michael hasn’t spent enough time with him to see it, “He’s different.”
Michael (concerned)-"What did you say?" {Did Michael realize Locke is on to the wonders of Walt?! Maybe he realized at that moment Walt and Locke share something. Maybe Michael realized where he really is and what's going on. I think it's at that moment Michael realizes he has to make that raft; he's got get Walt off the island!}
Locke-“And we’re not back home, Michael. As long as we're here I think Walt should be allowed to realize his potential.”
Michael warns Locke to stay away from him and his son. {This scene was very important!}

{Note the huge painting is heads.}
“You’re not taking him.” Toddler Walt plays on the floor with Michael. {Does he have Legos?}

Michael tells Susan she can go if she wants too but she’s not taking his son. Susan wants to take Walt to Amsterdam. She's got a great job offer and is leaving with him. Michael thought her position with the legal clinic was a good fit. This is offer is a huge opportunity for her as she’s always wanted to do international law. Susan says that she loves Michael but they need time apart. Michael knows they’ve talked about a lot of things, “You said you wanted to live on a boat.”
Susan mentions they’ve been through so much in such a short time. Michael understands they’ve got problems; he down with going to counseling. Susan had already made up her mind and took it; after all he hasn’t worked in months. Michael had already told her construction slows in the winter. But Susan knows she is the one who can provide for Walt. Michael doesn’t want to be away from Walt; there are laws against this kind of thing. Susan already knows the courts would side with her.
The two are not married. Susan says it’s not goodbye forever; she just needs some time. Michael is getting emotional.
{Flash Whoosh}
Walt is sleeping. {With his hand on his head} Michael watches him. Sun asks Michael if he’s alright.
Michael-"I just don't know how to talk to him, how to get him to understand, I’m on his side.    Locke says I should stop treating him like a child. I missed his whole childhood, so…This can’t happen…He can’t grow up here….Can’t grown up in this place.” {He can’t talk to Walt but he can communicate with Sun- a woman who is supposed to be speaking Korean.}

“Once I realized these equations were coordinates latitude and longitude, I assumed the French woman was trying to determine the location of the island. But it was incomplete; her notations fragmented.”

Shannon- “Except for the fish song.” {Is the fish song not nonsense?!}
Jack- “The what?”
No one explains the fish song to Jack.
Sayid just continues on with, “But when I lay the pages down like this I realized it wasn’t showing the location of the island…I think it’s a location on the island, specifically here…”
Jack asks where they are in relation to the triangle. Sayid admits the map in not in scale so he doesn’t know.
Jack states they’re not even sure it’s a map of this Island. Sayid admits they’re not sure but thinks it this may be the transmitter sending out the distress call and its power source.
Michael wonders what they’re doing now. “Looking for an excuse to get chased down and killed by whatever lives in the jungle?”
Michael feels they can’t keep doing this; building water filtration systems and playing golf, making a sweet little home here. “We need to get off this Island.”
Shannon-“You think any of us want to be here?”
Michael says no and that no one wants to get off this island as badly as he does right now.
Michael suggests building a raft because “No one’s coming.” He feels they can use the seats from the fuselage, ax, a whole bunch of trees; bamboo.
Sayid thinks the chances of surviving the rough waters, the odds of finding a shipping lane and Shannon’s seasickness would make this a waste of time.   Michael sarcastically tells them to stay there, grow old together, “Good luck to ya. But I’m doing this. My son and I are leaving.”

 In the caves Walt is reading the Spanish version of the comic The Green Lantern and Flash- Faster Friends. Vincent is at his side.
Walt is sounding out the Spanish words. Michael wants Walt to help him with something but Walt wants to enjoy the comic. Michael remarks Walt is reading a comic book in Spanish but doesn’t speak Spanish. Walt likes the pictures. Michael is intrigued Walt likes the art. Michael shares with his son that when he was a little older than Walt he used to trace comic books. “Taught myself about perspective, you know what that is? Perspective?”
Walt doesn’t even acknowledge dad so dad grabs the comic from him. He needs Walt’s help and needs him to go with him; because he sees what happens when he doesn’t keep an eye on him.
{Flash Whoosh-Sounds like a train.}
Michael is talking to Susan on a pay phone in New York City. He wants to talk to 21 month old Walt. Susan comments Walt doesn’t use the phone.
Michael will do all the talking, “I just want him to hear my voice. I miss him.” {Two pay phones}
Michael hears Susan say to someone on the other end of the phone say “Shhhh. It’s Michael.”
Susan tells Michael it’s not a good time to talk but Michael is ultimately informed by Susan she’s been seeing Brian Porter; the guy who hired her.
Michael feels she lied when she said she needed time to think about “us”. She says it wasn’t like that. Michael is pissed off, “I’m coming to Amsterdam.”
Susan doesn't want him to because it’s over between them.
Michael yells-“I’m not coming for you! I’m coming for Walt! I’m getting my son back!” Michael slams the phone down, crosses the street and gets hit by a car.

Kate walks over to chat with Charlie on the beach. He is going through Claire’s things/bags, “Who brought them here?”
Kate- “I did.”
Charlie is looking for Claire’s diary. She kept a diary in the side pocket.
Charlie-“Someone’s taken it.”
“What are we looking for again?” asks Walt. Michael needs any long piece of metal or long tubing, anything that looks like it would work as a frame.
Walt- “A frame for what?"
Michael- “You’ll see soon enough.”
They look through the wreckage as Michael instructs Walt to separate the cushions, the plastic, the tarp, “Put everything you find in different piles so we can take stock.”
Walt-“Am I being punished?”
Michael feels, “This is us taking control of our destiny.”
Walt-“Feels like punishment.”

Kate and Charlie head over to Sawyer’s tent. He doesn’t answer the call at the tent door so Charlie says, “I can just go inside…”
Sawyer- “Trick or treat.”
Sawyer is sitting a few feet away.
When something goes missing they figure it’s got to be Sawyer who took it.
Kate asks if he has the diary or not. Just like a magician he presents a diary, “You mean this one?”
Charlie wants it. Sawyer doesn’t think that’s a good idea because maybe Missy Claire doesn’t want Charlie to read it.
Charlie-“I wasn’t gonna read it.”
Sawyer wonders if Charlie’s curious about what she wrote about him. Sawyer mentions “good literature is kinda scarce around here.”
They assume Sawyer read the diary.
Sawyer reads a passage aloud. “Dear Diary. I’m getting really freaked out by that has-been pop star. I think he’s stalking me.”
He reads on- “Diary, the little limy runt just won't let up.”
Charlie punches him in his bicep wound, knocking the diary away.
Charlie acquires the diary.
Sawyer punches Charlie in the face. Charlie feels he hits like a ponce. Kate stops them from really getting into it. Charlie walks away.
Kate asks Sawyer if he really read it. Sawyer just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

Walt is “listening” to something. Distant voices become clearer.
Michael rummages through the wreckage. Walt gets excited when he sees Locke and Boone emerge from the jungle and head into the caves. Michael never even notices them. {Locke is eating something.} Walt tells his focused dad he’s going to get some water. Michael would like Walt to bring him some. Walt doesn't acknowledge him at all.
Michael-“Please and thank you. Gotta work on that.”
Dad is displeased with Walt’s lack of manners.

In the cave Shannon wonders if Boone and Locke are just going to keep coming back without any food.
Boone is disconnected from her. Shannon wants to know what’s going on with him, “Could you be acting any weirder?”
Boone- “Shannon. You’ve been a functioning bulimic since Jr. High. I thought you’d be excited about dropping a size or two.”
Shannon feels since Boone isn’t having any luck hunting maybe he should help Michael build the raft. She was thinking maybe she should help Michael so she can finally get the hell out of there. “Why don’t you help me?”
Unimpressed Boone replies, “No thanks.”
Locke is going through his silver case and Walt walks over to him.
Locke- “Your father doesn’t want us spending time together.”
Walt feels dad isn’t the boss of him. Locke tells the child, “But he’s your father. And he cares about you and you need to show him respect. Now I’m serious Walt. You’re not to come to me anymore.”
Just then Michael enters and he is pissed!
“Damn it! What is wrong with you?!”
Locke-“I was just coming to see…”
Michael told Locke to stay away from his son. Walt tries to interject but Michael doesn’t want to hear from him.

Locke- “I was just giving him this pencil to give to you. I thought you could use it. Consider it a peace offering.”
{Pen or pencil?}
Michael quietly speaks in Locke’s ear. “I catch you with my son again…I’ll kill you.”

Locke picks up his silver case and walks away.
Walt calls Michael "a jerk!"
“Mr. Locke didn’t do anything wrong, he’s my friend.”
Michael- “He’s not anymore. I’m looking out for you!”
Walt feels Michael doesn’t care about him and he never cared about him. “You only show up after my mom died. Where were you when I was growing up? Huh? NOWHERE!”
Michael-“Listen, Walt. It’s complicated.” {Remember that for later}
Walt doesn’t even care, “You’re not my father.” {That’s right.}
Michael- “You wanna hate me? You wanna punish me for something I can’t change? Fine. But you will listen to me.”
Michael throws the comic in the fire! He demands Walt “get over there. And you stay there. Now!”
Walt walks over by the waterfall and Vincent.
Michael looks at the burning comic book with the polar bear.
{Flash Whoosh}
Michael is drawing with a pencil.

He's been in a hospital for three months. His nurse never knew he had a kid. Michael explains he'll be two next week and lives in Amsterdam with his mom. Michael mentions he never knows what to write.
The nurse suggests a joke. “How about what's black, white and red all over?”
Michael guesses a newspaper.
Nope.
The nurse's answer is a penguin with a sunburn.
Nurse-"Trust me, mother of four talking here. He'll get a kick out it."
Susan comes to see him. She hadn't heard from Michael in two months, she had to call Andy to find out about the accident.
Michael- "Yeah, well considering how our last conversation went."
Susan tells him Walt is at home.
Susan pushes Michael in a wheelchair down the hallway. The nurses feel he will make a full recovery but Michael informs Susan he needs a year of physical therapy. Susan will cover all his medical expenses. She already spoke to the hospital administrator and all his bills will go to her.
Susan goes on to reveal she is going to marry Brian, he wants to adopt Walt and they will move to Italy at the end of the month. Brian is taking over the firm's Rome office.
Michael- "You're kidding me right?"
Susan- "Consider what's best for Walt. You can keep holding on if you want, but ask yourself why you're doing that. Is it really for him? Or is it for you?" {I find this line to be very telling! Are we NOT talking about a child here? Or are we talking about my Darth Vader action figure that I've been holding on to since I'm a kid? lol}
{Flash Whoosh}
Hurley walks up to Michael and says -"Uh, dude. You're kid is gone."
Walt just grabbed the dog and took off.
Michael knows where he's gone.

Locke is sharpening his knife.
Michael asks Locke where he is, "I'm not in the mood for your games, man. Where's Walt?"
Locke tells him Walt's not here but Michael thinks he's lying.
Boone-"Hey man. He's not here. Look around."
Well, Michael wasn't talking to Boone.
Locke- "I told him this morning that he couldn't be around me anymore. Trying to respect your wishes." They realize Walt is gone.
Locke tells Michael "Let's go find your boy."

Kate and Charlie arrive at the caves with Claire's bags. Charlie feels Kate didn't really have to help, "I could have managed. I've had my share of manly encounters."
Kate thought he could use the company.
Charlie tells Kate "It's weird. I barely knew her...barely know her, Claire. She's missing over a week. Everyday she's gone it feels like bits of me are crumbling or something.
Kate thinks its right he keep her stuff safe until she gets back. Kate touches Charlie's leg and leaves.
Charlie retrieves Claire's blue diary and contemplates a peek. He's so tempted that he picks it up and puts it down a few times before thumbing through the pages. He fights temptation and puts the diary back in the bag, zips it up and walks away from it.

Walt walks Vincent through the jungle. {On a red leash} Something "growls".
The dog barks and Walt looks around because they hear something walking through the jungle. Walt doesn't see anything just hears it. Vincent starts freaking as if he sees something and Walt asks him what's wrong. Vincent runs off, breaking the collar and leash off of him! {Why doesn't the damn dog stay? Did somebody/something call him away? I would think a good, loyal dog would protect its family} Walt drops the collar and leash to run after Vincent.
{Flash Whoosh}
Walt is lying on the floor staring at Vincent, although it could appear as if he's "listening" to him.
Susan is telling Brian about someone who is "trying to weasel his way out anything not to let the case move forward. He was arguing it wasn't his jurisdiction."
Brian- "Oh, you're kidding me."
Susan- “I wish I was. Same argument third time in a row. Barkley said it was an immigration issue."
Brain- "Barkley, that's classic."
Susan- "He thinks because I'm new to Australian law that I'm some kind of yokel or something"
Susan wants Walt to do get back to his homework. Walt told her he needs help. Mom the lawyer can tell when someone's stalling.
Susan and Brian are distracted in their own conversation and not paying attention to Walt. {There is a blue binder near Walt and he holds a pencil}
Walt asks "Who cares about birds of Australia, anyway? We're in Australia."
Brian asks Susan if she's okay. Susan admits she's feeling kind of flu-ey
Walt- "Shouldn't we be studying birds of Egypt or something?
Brian- "You haven't been sleeping much lately. Maybe you need to take a personal day."
Walt just continues talking about the bird he picked; the Bronze Cuckoo. It's funny. Wanna see?
Susan asks Brian what about Barkley?
Walt continues on- "I mean, it doesn't look funny, just the name"
Susan- "Sleeping in late that's too much. . ." {The nanny is sitting in the room.}
Walt is getting annoyed; tries to get Brian's attention-"Hey, Brian, look, look. You're not looking. You're not looking." {We hear bird chips and wings flutter.}
All of a sudden a bird flies in to the closed glass door. Walt wonders if it's dead. Brian says it is and just looks at Walt. Walt isn't really fazed by the bird incident; he just goes back to reading his bird book.
{Flash Whoosh}
Walt is alone in the jungle calling out for Vincent. We can hear noises of something moving around in the jungle. The sound of low growls is heard.

Brian Porter knocks on Michael's door. {Peephole} The men seem to not know each other. Brian breaks the news to him about Susan's death-YESTERDAY! {She dies yesterday, in Australia, he files all the way to N.Y. to see Michael and leaves Walt with the nanny...WOW!!}
Turns out Susan had a blood disorder and was sick for one week. Apparently Michael hadn't talked to her in a while. Brian informs him before Susan died she wanted Michael to have custody of Walt. Michael seems surprised at this and feels he hasn't been his father in nine years. Brian goes on about how he didn't want to be a father; he didn't know how. Brian presents a yellow envelope containing money for travel expenses, two tickets; 1 round trip, 1 one way, so Michael can go and get Walt. Michael feels the idea for Michael to have custody is really Brian's idea and not Susan's.
Brian's a wreck right now, he just lost the woman he loves and he can't be Walt's father, he's not his son.
Brian tells him there's something about him. Sometimes when he's around things happen; he's different somehow.
{Flash Whoosh}
Michael finds Vincent's red collar and leash. He and Locke hear Walt yell for help. Locke points Michael in the direction to go.

Michael goes to Australia. The nanny mentions Walt will be home from school any minute. She also gives him a yellow envelope with some of Susan's effects and a box with cards/letters. The nanny thinks Walt should have it. She just walks away leaving him alone.

In the distance you can hear the nanny tell Walt someone is there to see him. Michael walks down a long hallway to Walt.

 Michael is running through the jungle, Walt is calling out for his dad's help and there are loud growls.
A polar bear is trying to claw his way into where Walt is hiding in the banyan trees. {This is the second time we see a polar bear.}
Locke stops Michael from just rushing over {actually covers his mouth, tells him to "shhhh" and directs them... "up here."

Walt plays with Vincent and a ball. {Wearing a vest.} The birds are singing.
Michael- "Hey Walt."
Walt- "Who are you?"
Michael tells Walt he's his father. {I know!! Walt looks at him like he has three fucking heads!} Michael shares that he and Susan loved it each very much when they had him. Walt asks where Brian is.
Michael- "He's not here."
Michael's there to bring you home with me."
Walt isn't going anywhere with him.
Michael- "I know this is really hard to understand all of this. See Brian... Brian loves you very much. And he wants you to stay with him, but it's not his choice. It's mine. I'm your legal guardian. And a, it's not like he's going to disappear from your life. He'll still call you, write to you, come to see you whenever he can. And you know, you'll still have your dog.
Walt- "But Vincent isn't mine. He's Brian's."
Michael- "Brian said you could have him."

The polar bear is trying to get to Walt. Michael calls out to Walt as he and Locke walk across a tree limb {like a tight rope walker} that allows them to pass over the polar bear action. Michael slips but Locke saves him!
Walt is crying as the bear continues to reach Walt. Michael tells Walt to hang in there. Michael climbs over to the tree with Walt. {What is with the white smoke there for a second?} Locke tosses Michael a knife to give to Walt for protection.
Walt stabs at the bear.
Michael wraps leafless vines around and yells up to Locke, "Okay, Locke now!"
Locke works hard to pull Walt out. The polar bear returns and Michael stabs him; the bear runs off. {Locke watches the bear run off.} Michael climbs up the tree and is reunited with Walt. They hug; everybody is happy! Michael is glad Walt is safe.
Walt is concerned that Vincent ran off again.
Locke- "He found his way back to you once, Walt. He will again." {Indeed}
Michael and Locke share a smile.

At night in the caves Michael gives Walt a present; every card and letter of the past eight years! {NOT 9 years}
Walt said he likes to look at pictures. Walt's never seen these before and wonders why his mom never gave them to him.
Michael feels although she didn't give them to him, she never threw them out either and that deep down she must have wanted him to have them. They both feel the "penguin" joke is dumb.

Charlie sits engrossed in Claire's blue diary. Something on the page gets his attention and he heads over to talk to Jack and Sayid. "You have to hear this." They're surprised he's reading her diary.
Charlie- "Yeah, I know, I'm bloody scum. Just listen to this. "I had that weird dream again the one with the black rock I can't get away from. I try to leave it but it won't let me."
Sayid -"Black rock?"
Jack-"It's just dreams, Charlie."
Charlie- "No, Sayid mentioned black rock before."
Sayid- "The French woman said something about her team returning from the black rock. The triangle on the map. Maybe it's the triangle on the map."
Charlie- "Maybe it's where Claire was taken. Maybe she's there?"
Jack-"Maybe. Charlie, we all want to find Claire, but there's no sense going out into the jungle in the middle of the night."

Locke is blowing into the whistle he made to 'call' Vincent. {We hear the high pitch whistle.}
Boone- "I don't think that whistles working, John."
Locke- "You can't hear everything, Boone. The sooner you learn that, the better."
There's a noise that Boone actually hears.
Boone whispers loudly, "Vincent. Vincent. Is that you?"
Locke readies his knife as they wait to see what's coming out of the jungle.
I guess the whistle it works on Claire too because she walks out of the jungle! {Damn Locke is good! Keep your eye on Locke.}
Locke- "Claire."

Special is a GREAT episode!! Just what is the tie or connection with Walt and Michael? What is his role? Is he really his father, biologically or as a figurehead? In name only? WHAT?! I feel that Michael may be more of a protector/guardian than a father.   Walt wasn't supposed to be Michael's and wasn't supposed to be with Michael.
So Walt is different. What does he share with Locke really?
Bottom line is Michael's got to get Walt off the “Island” before the shit hits the fan! I think Michael knows all about Walt and the "Island"! There, I said it!

Things to Note...Questions to ask...

* Brian Porter and Susan are a black and white couple. Vincent's leash is red.
* The bird that flew into the glass door doesn't really look like any of the birds in the book.
* Again be observant to when the "Flash Whoosh" is there and when it's not.

* I've been excited to talk about this, yet also afraid to talk about this. Reason being you all know I think outside the box with this show and I could be way out there on some things( I know that), but this could make me look like a fully fledged patient at Santa Rosa's! LOL!
The comic is in Spanish.
Let's talk about the basic idea/story of the comic. I have kept these clues as part of my thoughts since the first time I saw them.
I see many common elements between this comic book story and the "Island". MANY! Some of which I know you're going to say I'm nuts! But I see more than just the polar bear bearing a resemblance to our island.
We are shown an alien, the dome around land, bug, polar bear. Okay, that comic story/series is about two halves of a super hero (Flash and Green Lantern) put together to make a superior super hero. The old and new of both halves create the new being, a better world.; Two halves brought together to make a whole.

I'm paraphrasing here, but this is the idea: A reference to parallel earth, they want to mix a part of each reality to create a perfect world, and identity crisis.
The alien: The alien in the story comes to earth, and gets sick with cancer; they hide him away in a ship.
The dome: Could our island be in a "dome" or something "dome-like"? Something that is "containing" them?
Bug: Walt shows us the page with the bug on it. So does the "Island" have a bug?
Polar bear: Many have felt that the polar bear was manifested by Walt. Nope, I don't think so.
Besides that the "polar bears" were already there in that "environment".

Vocabulary and Research…
* Air Chief Marshal Sir Walter Lloyd Dawson KCB CBE DSO RAF (6 May 1902 – 1994) was a senior commander in the RAF in the 1950s. He was the last RAF commander in Palestine, before the creation of the State of Israel. He died in 1994.
* Crib- in cryptanalysis, is a known or suspected plaintext. The term originated at Bletchley Park, the British WWII decryption operation.
* The usage "crib" was adapted from a slang term referring to cheating— example: "I cribbed my answer from your test paper."
-A "crib" originally was a literal or interlinear translation of a foreign-language text — usually a Latin or Greek text — that students might be assigned to translate from the original language.
* Triangle- Trinity.
* In semantics: a triangle is the structure of every system composed with three reciprocally connected/interrelated abstract or real objects
*The phrase "mind's eye" refers to the human ability for visual perception, imagination, visualization, and memory.
*The Mind's I: Fantasies and reflections on self and soul is a 1981 book composed and arranged by Douglas R. Hofstadter and Daniel C. Dennett. It is a collection of essays and creations about the nature of the mind and the self, tied together with commentary by the editors.
-The Mind's Eye series consists of several art films rendered using computer generated imagery of varying levels of sophistication. The series began in 1990.
* New Amsterdam- was a 17th-century Dutch Colonial settlement that later became the city now known as New York City. Whenever the Dutch went to new places they would name each colony with the word "new".
* Stalling (gaming) obstruction of the flow of play while leading in a timed game.

You've heard me say many times before that we are given a clue and then it gets dropped for a while…then BAM! There it is again! This is not the last time we got a comic or super hero clue. Just wait, it comes back around.

Every single episode tells us to LOOK, SEE and LISTEN because answers are right in front of our eyes! I guess that's going to become my catch phrase. Also, answers are in their eyes.  So think about what could actually be going on in their “heads/minds”.

The comic book.....Is it a clue or just entertainment? I think it's a clue and for fun!  It’s Michael who stares at the burning comic book with the polar bear page showing.
I sometimes feel that there's a bit of "Mr. John Locke" in most of the centrics even when they're not "his". Weird, huh?

Perspective…it’s all about perspective.

Thanks for reading my blog and experiencing my LOSTNESS, as crazy as it can sometimes be. I really appreciate it. You guys ROCK!!

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin!I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

Hearts and Minds

Let's talk about LOST! Hearts and Minds.

A beautiful open eye.
Boone is watching is Shannon read on the beach from afar. He seems annoyed as Sayid walks over to Shannon with a present/gift for her; for helping him the translations. His gift is a pair of fancy shoes he found in the wreckage.  Wow! They’re even Shannon's size, “Well half a size off but she swears this place is actually making her feet swell.
Sayid-“Another mysterious force on the island revealed.”
Boone doesn’t take his eyes off of them.

Hurley breaks Boone’s focus on the couple. He wonders why Boone and Locke go hunting for boar everyday but never come back with any. “We haven’t had fresh pork on a plate in about a week, dude.”
Boone-“It’s not like they’re domesticated animals.
Hurley also wonders if they’re not trying hard enough.
Boone-“We’re hunting, alright?”
Hurley hopes so because people need food, “Solid food. This isn’t a game, man.” {Well I think it is!}
{Flash Whoosh}

A cell phone rings.
Boone is at the tennis court with his arm around a girl who looks like Shannon. {He’s wearing an Italy shirt.} They’re talking about a lucky shot that was made.

Boone-“I wish it was luck.”
He realizes his phone is ringing and answers it; It’s Shannon. She is calling him because things aren’t so good. Boone hears her yelling and crying at a guy to stay the hell away from her.
Boone-“Just tell me where you are and I’ll come get you.”
Shannon-“Sydney…Sydney, Australia.
We see that Boone lives a very nice life!
{Flash Whoosh}
Boone approaches Sayid on the beach ordering him to stay away from his sister. Although he claims it’s really just a friendly suggestion.
Boone-“If I were you I’d listen.”
Sayid smirks and asks, “What if I don’t?”
Locke calls out to Boone from behind him. This breaks Boone’s focus on his chat with Sayid. Locke informs Boone he found some fresh tracks down by the stream. Boone will see Sayid later.
Sayid-“You know where to find me.” and watches the two head off.

Hurley breaks a leaf off a plant and chats with Jack about his current important issue. First he confirms that they have Doctor patient confidentiality. {Jack has key around his neck.}
Hurley confides he hasn’t been feeling so great; his stomach has major digestive issues. He’s been eating all fruit. Hurley even ate fruit someone said was good for digestion, “Let me tell you they lied.”
Jack feels it would help if he had more protein in his diet.
Hurley continues to collect leafs. According to Hurley if there’s no boar there’s no protein. Jack suggests fish as Jin’s been catching a lot of them.
Hurley feels Jin has it in for him and he’s not kidding, “He offered me something to eat like, right after we you know... got here …um, what’s the the thing with the spikes?” {Jack says Sea Urchin}...Yeah. And when I turned him down it’s like I soiled his family honor or something. He hasn’t looked me in the eye since. The guy holds a serious grudge.”
The leaves Hurley picked aren’t for eating; he excuses himself. This amuses Jack.

Jack comes upon Kate who is in the jungle picking fruit. He doesn’t make his presence known, he just quietly watches her. Kate can see him there.
Jack-“I wasn’t hiding. Just didn’t want to disrupt you from doing whatever it is you’re doing.”
Kate-“It’s not like it’s a secret.”
Jack-“Hard to tell with you sometimes.”
He notes the gross little grayish yellow things. They’re really passion fruit seeds. Kate will show him what they’re for.
As the walk Jack says, “Please tell me you found a coffee bar.”
Not quite.
Kate leads him to where Sun is working on a garden. This is all Sun’s idea. Kate just wandered into it when she was put picking fruit.
Jack tells Sun it’s beautiful and great.
Kate shares with Jack Sun planted some herbs and low growing stuff here and she started a grove over there.
Jack finds that smart, “With the boar running out we’re gonna need as much food as we can possibly get.”
Sun is listening to him.
Kate suggests that maybe it’s not running out. “Maybe Locke’s just decided not to catch it for us anymore.”   She feels it’s because there’s a lot of mouths to feed. “If the boars thinning out then why should he feed everyone else at his own expense.”

At the hatch Boone mentions the glass isn’t breaking and the door is sealed shut. “I think its cement.”
Boone’s wonders what the stuff is in the bowl that Locke’s mixing up.
Locke-“It’s for later.”
Boone doesn’t want to be too difficult but he brings up they’ve been coming for two days just starring at this thing, “I’m not really sure what we’re supposed to be doing.”
Locke-“Lodovico Buonarroti. Michelangelo's father. He was a wealthy man. Had no understanding of the divinity in his son, so he beat him. No child of his was going to use his hands for a living. So, Michelangelo learned not to use his hands. Years later a visiting prince came into Michelangelo's studio and found the master staring at a single 18 foot block of marble. Then he knew that the rumors were true, that Michelangelo had come in everyday for the last four months...stared at the marble, and gone home for his supper. So the prince asked the obvious, what are you doing? And Michelangelo turned around and looked at him, and whispered, ‘Sto lavorando’-‘I'm working’. Three years later that block of marble was the statue of David."
Boone-“We’re not gonna stare at this thing for four months are we?”
How are they going to open it?
That is what they have to figure out; that’s why they’re sitting there.
Locke-“I mean, how do you open a hatch that has no handle, no latch…no discernible way of opening it.”
{Flash Whoosh}
There are three knocks on a door:
Boone is looking in the screen door of the house.

 He tells the guy inside he’s looking for Shannon: he’s her brother. The guy lets Boone in. {Note the light switch has one light and one dark.} Shannon walks into the room and asks Boone what he’s doing there. Boone just spent 15 hours on a plane. Shannon tells him this isn’t really the best time because she and Bryan were on their way out to meet friends.
She discretely reveals a big bruise on the right side of her head.
Shannon-“Why don’t you give me a call tomorrow.”
Okay, he will.
{Flash Whoosh}
Hurley runs after Jin who is on his way to fish. {He has a net.}

Hurley-“Jin! Yo, Jin! Alto! I know you don’t like me cause of the sea urchin thing, but that’s okay cause I’m not asking for any favors. Just let me know where you get the fish.”
He uses the hand gesture to indicate fish. “Just point me in the right direction.”
Hurley will take care of his own business with his own tools. {He has a handmade spear.} Jin is amused; he replies to him in Korean.
Hurley-“You just said something mean, didn’t ya?”
Jin strolls away.

In the jungle Boone informs Locke that they’re gonna have to tell them what they found. “You know they’re not gonna keep believing that we’re coming out here hunting , we never go back...”
Lock cuts him off, “They’re not ready. They won’t understand it.’
Boone-“I don’t think I understand it.”
Locke-“That’s the problem.”
Boone feels he has to at least tell Shannon. Locke asks him why he has to tell Shannon; why does he care so much about her?
Boone gets a bit defensive and replies-“You don’t know her, man. She’s smart and she’s special in a lot of ways.”
Locke feels that’s fair enough. They walk on.
Boone can’t keep lying to her about this.
Locke-“You mean you can’t keep lying to her, or you can’t stand the way she makes you feel because you’re lying to her.”
Boone-“Both. Whatever. Look, she can keep a secret.”
Locke asks if he’s sure.
Boone is sure, except Locke is talking about something else.
Locke-“No. I mean are you sure you wanna do this?”
Boone feels he has to get her off his back. {Like a monkey?} “She keeps asking me about this, she keeps asking me about you…about the whole thing.”

Locke-“You sure you’ve thought through the ramifications?”
Yes, Boone has.
Locke-“So be it.”
Locke knocks Boone unconscious with the butt of his knife.

Boone is regaining consciousness. Locke has tied him up with rope in a kneeling position with his right arm tied in front of his body, his left arm tied behind and around his neck.    Locke is focused on mixing up some sort of gunk; a paste.
Boone-“Locke. What is this?...Can you hear me? Untie me right now!”
Locke, who is smelling his mixture, asks “Or what?"
Boone swears and promises he won’t tell anyone about the hatch thing.   Locke explains he is doing this because it’s time for Boone to let go of some things. “Because it’s what’s best for you. And I promise you’re gonna thank me for this later.”
Boone doesn’t think this is best for him. Locke applies the paste on Boone’s untreated wound, “out here...it’s gonna get infected.”
Locke also says whether Boone stays there is up to him and that the camp is four miles due west.”
Boone-“Which way is west?”
Locke doesn’t point him in the direction; he only throws a knife that lands in the ground right in front of tied up Boone.
Locke-"You'll be able to cut yourself free once you have the proper motivation."
Locke heads in to the jungle leaving Boone all alone.
Boone struggles to reach the knife to cut himself free, but can’t. He calls out for help.
{Flash Whoosh}
“I’m sorry Mr. Carlyle I’m afraid I can’t help you.”
Boone is at the Sydney police station and the investigator would need a little more to go on. Boone doesn’t understand this as he’s reporting a crime. In the distance you can hear Sawyer complaining about sitting in a bar minding his own business…. Sawyer is cuffed and paraded right past Boone, “Hey Crock Hunter! How come nobody wants to hear my side of the story?”
The investigator uses Sawyer as an example, “Now if that were her mate see, then I could help you.”
The investigator asks Boone why her last name is Rutherford and his is Carlyle. Rutherford is her father’s name. Their parents got married when Boone was 10 and she was 8. They are step siblings; no blood relation. Shannon was married but not anymore. {YEP! And remember Shannon is 20 years old}
Boone wonders if the investigator has heard of his mother Sabrina Carlyle; owner of the largest wedding business in the U.S. Boone is the C. O. O. of the wedding clothing subsidiary. The investigator is not impressed and offers him his wife’s $2,000 wedding dress. All Boone wants is for someone to pay this guy a visit but in the absence of any physical evidence or a direct complaint from Shannon they can’t just go barging into people’s apartments. Sadly they’re the police not the dating police.
Boone leaves.

Boone pays Bryan a visit down at the docks. He offers to pay him off with $25,000 to break up with his sister. {U.S. dollars.} "End it right now, today."
Bryan tells him to bugger off. Boone explains that he’ll be the third guy Boone paid to leave her. He instructs Bryan to go to her house when she’s not there, pack his stuff and never have contact with her again.
Bryan-“So you flew all the way over here to bribe me.”
Bryan claims to love her but only $50,000 worth. Boone writes a check. {Red pen}
Which guy fell for all that bullshit hook line and sinker?

Kate asks Sun can she believe they’ve been there for over three weeks.
Kate shares her story about how she was on her way to Bali as she travels a lot. “I was looking forward to exploring the island. Somehow I ended up on a flight to L.A. instead. I guess that falls under the category of be careful what you wish for."
Sun smiles and Kate realizes Sun understood her and can indeed speak English! Sun begs her not to tell anyone.

Hurley and Jin are doing some fishing. Hurley is struggling with catching fish and Jin has no problem at all. Jin catches three fish. Jin says something to Hurley is Korean.
Hurley-“You know what? Its fine, you win, okay. You happy now? Keep your damn fish. I’m outta here!”
Hurley steps on a friggin urchin. Jin helps Hurley out of the water. Hurley is yelling about understanding infection and green amputation. His foot really hurts.
Hurley tells Jin he has to pee on his foot to stop the venom; he saw it on TV. “Just pee on my foot!... I’ll lose my foot if you don’t!”
{This makes me crack up every time I see it!! As a matter of fact I'm cracking up right now as I type this!! HAHAHAHA!!!!}

Alone in the jungle Sayid makes a compass.  Locke quietly comes upon him; Sayid didn’t hear him.
Locke- “Sorry. Sneakier than I give myself credit for."  {Oh really?}
Locke tells Sayid he and Boone were out hunting and Boone suggested Locke take the rest of the afternoon off. Sayid seems surprised Boone is hunting. Locke feels the boy is eager to learn.
Sayid-“Think he’ll catch anything?”
Locke-“Nope...What are you doing out here Sayid?”
Sayid is orienteering. “I’m trying to make something of Rousseau’s maps but...”
Locke-“There’s nothing to make.”
Locke’s impressed with Sayid’s’ compass crafting skills. Locke hasn’t seen one like that since he was a Webelos.
Sayid asks, “What’s a Webelos?”
Locke-“That’s halfway between a Cub scout and a Boy scout.”
A Webelos acquires badges/patches, tie knots and identifies birds. Locke confesses he wasn’t the most popular kid.
Locke gives his compass to Sayid, “Maybe this will help your cause.”
Locke doesn’t need it anymore.

Tied up Boone is unconscious in the jungle. He jolts awake when he hears Shannon scream in the distance for somebody to help her. Shannon yells over to him that she’s tied up too. We hear {wings flutter}. The Monster!! It seems to be making its way through the jungle.
Boone painfully struggles and reaches for the knife Locke left for him and cuts himself free.
Boone runs through the jungle and sees Shannon tied up to a tree. He cuts her free and they run like the devil’s chasing them. They  hide in a Banyan tree.
The monster is right outside the tree. The Monster actually pushes against their hiding place in an effort to make them move.

In the jungle Sayid asks Jack which way he thinks North is. Jack looks around and analyzes the sun sets in the west and points in the direction he believes it is. Sayid feels that is indeed where North should be but shows Jack on Locke’s compass that North is off kilter from where it really should be.
Sayid feels a minor magnetic anomaly would explain a variance of two or three degrees, but not this. Sayid is saying that this compass is obviously defective. He shares that Locke gave it to him this afternoon; he saw him about a mile east of where they, “Walking through the jungle. At least I think its east.”

Boone is literally covering Shannon in protection while they hide in the Banyan tree. All seems quiet outside.
Shannon wants to know what Boone did to piss off that psycho Locke.
Boone-“I didn’t do anything to him.”
Shannon- “What? He just did it because he was bored.”
Boone just wants to go back to camp. They quietly make their way out of the Banyan tree.
{Flash Whoosh}
Three knocks on the door:
Boone arrives at Shannon’s house, “You have any bags? Anything you wanna take?”
Boone was supposed to come later. He tells her they are getting out of this country and asks if there’s anything she wants to bring with her. Brain enters the house.
Boone doesn’t “get it” right away then Boone learns he was used, set up for the money by Shannon. Shannon wants what is owed to her because she got screwed over when her daddy died by Boone’s mother. This little bitch has done this before. Bryan beats the shit out of Boone. {With my trusty headphones on you can hear jungle sounds faintly in the background. Call me crazy...or don’t.}
Boone walks out.

Locke sits quietly on the beach looking out to the water. Jack joins him and asks, “Any ships?”
Locke- “Not yet. But I’m…patient.”
It’s been a while since the two talked as Jack is a busy man.
Jack-“So are you.”
Jack drinks from his Oceanic water bottle and wonders where Boone is.
Locke-“Haven’t seen him today.”
Seeming as they’ve been attached at the hip all week, Locke checks his hip, no Boone.
Jack- “How’s the boar hunting going?”
Locke- “Between you and me?”
Jack- “Always.”
Locke is afraid their beginning to migrate outside their valley. They’re smart animals and smart animals adapt quickly when a new predator is introduced into their environment.
Jack-“You mean us.”
Locke nods yes-“The most dangerous predator of all.”

Kate and Sun walk through the jungle. Sun admits Michael knows of her ability to speak English. Kate can keep a secret so she won’t tell. Sun took English lessons in Korea and Jin doesn’t know, “It’s complicated.”
Sun can’t even tell him now because she loves him. “Have you ever lied to a man you’ve loved?”

Hurley asks Jin in English-“You sure you don’t speak English? Cause there’s a rumor that you do. You’re wife's hot.”
Jin looks up at Hurley. {Does Jin understand and speak English too? Or can they all understand Korean? Either way, I see them all understanding Jin at one point or another. So it can't be much of a rumor, it must be true.}
Jin presents a remedy to Hurley but Hurley thinks it’s payback for him not eating the urchin the other time. “I eat this you give me a fish, right?”
Hurley downs it and pukes.

Jack gives Charlie a pill/aspirin. As Jack helps him move big sticks Jack mentions he’s seen him around the caves lately. Charlie needed a change of scenery. Charlie is going through week two of heroin withdrawal and dealing with Claire being abducted by the freak that tried to kill him.
Jack asks Charlie what he thinks Locke’s story is. Locke is still sitting there quietly and patiently looking out to the water.
Charlie- "The guy’s a freak of nature. Highly disturbed. Chances are he probably killed all his mates at the post office the day his mum forgot to put a cookie in his lunch tin. That was my first impression anyway. And then he saved my life”
Charlie trusts Locke. There is one person on this Island he puts his absolute faith in to save them all it’ll be John Locke.
Locke still sits staring out to the water.

Michael looks in a little wooden box. Walt comes in playing ball with Vincent and makes him smile. {Vincent has a collar.} Michael has found his own bag. Michael cuts up Hurley’s papaya with Hurley’s pocket knife.
Hurley tells him something to wish on his worst enemy, “Hope they step on a sea urchin.”     Jin comes in and presents Hurley with a cleaned fish.
Jack notes to Kate that Jin and Sun look happy. He also hands her slimy little bluish black thingies; guava seeds.
Jack-“What’s a garden without guava?”

Boone and Shannon are cautiously making their way through the jungle.
Shannon-“Are you sure we’re going in the right direction?”
She wouldn’t have to follow Boone if he wasn’t best friends with the nutcase who brought them out there.
Shannon- “You and Locke weren’t hunting, were you? You were doing something else.”
They’ve been over this before.
Shannon calls him a horrible liar and wonders why Boone’s keeping secrets for this guy.
Boone- "Do you know who this guy is? He's the only one here who has a clue to what's going on." It means he’s smart!
Shannon-“He tied us up, Boone. Why?!”
Boone comes clean about finding something; a piece of metal buried in the jungle. They’ve been excavating it. A hatch buried in the dirt.
Shannon- “Like a door?” She asks where it goes.
You can hear the sound of {wings flutter}. Boone feels Locke did this when Boone told him he wanted to share the news about the hatch. Just then the monster explodes out of the ground! They run! They keep looking back at it.
There is some sort of metal sound and Shannon is pulled up and taken away by the monster. Boone can't help her.
He looks for her in the jungle.
{Flash Whoosh}
Three knocks on the door:
Shannon pays Boone a visit at his hotel room. He is applying ice to his bruises. {Lamp is light and dark.} Shannon takes off her shoes before she enters. Bryan has taken the money and is gone.
Boone- “So the player got played. It’s poetic, don’t ya think?”
Shannon knew Boone would bring the money. He claims Shannon was drunk. Shannon knows Boone is in love with her. He says she’s plastered and calls her a self centered little bitch that is now delusional. “You’re sick.”
They end getting physical and kissy.
Boone sits up in complete darkness.
Shannon immediately returns to her bitchy self, telling Boone when they get back to L.A. he should just tell his mom that he rescued her again, just like he always does “and then we’ll just go back.” Back to what it was.
Boone- “Like it’s all up to you.”
Shannon just tells him to get dressed.
{Flash Whoosh}
Boone follows a trail of blood that leads to Shannon’s torn up bloody body that it lying on the rocks of the stream. He holds her lifeless body and cries.

When Boone arrives back at camp to find Locke just sitting there quietly staring, waiting. Boone attacks him with a knife claiming Locke killed her.
Locke- “You made it back.”
Boone is very emotional, he said that thing killed his sister and its Locke’s fault; she died in his arms. He doesn’t want Locke to play dumb with him.
Locke- “You’re sister? Calm down.”
He wants to know why there's no blood on him.
Boone- “What the hell just happened to me out there?”
Locke says he doesn’t know. “But your sister, Shannon…”
Just then they hear Shannon’s voice. Boone sees her with Sayid all safe and sound. Boone swears she was dead.
Locke appears pleased- "Is that what it made you see?"
Boone- “What made me see?”
That stuff you put on my head, you drugged me.”
Locke-”I gave you an experience that I believe was vital to your survival on this island.
Boone- “It wasn't real?”
Locke- “It was only as real as you made it.”
Upset Boone insists he saw Shannon die.
Locke- “How did you feel...When she died?”
Boone- “I felt… I felt relieved…I felt relieved.”
Locke is indeed pleased- “Yes. Time to let go.“
Locke gets his backpack and tells Boone, “Follow me".
Boone follows Locke.

Hearts and Minds is a GREAT episode!
We see the pain of the heart fighting with logic. Learning to let go of emotional pain, hurt and attachments seems to be one of the goals of this adventure.
I think there are a few Lostie's who know somewhere "deep down inside" that they are supposed to be there.  I think they have forgotten the “Island” is “home” or “home” is the “Island”.    I know sounds a bit out there, but that has to do with my thoughts about what's going on. Of course that will evolve as the episodes evolve.

Things to Note...Questions to ask...
♥  Eye color.
♥  Swollen Feet. Rose’s hubby gets swollen fingers.
♥  Italy. Alto. Michelangelo
♥  Jealousy. Grudge. Anger. Hurt. Lonely. Addiction withdrawal.
♥  Cycle. Pattern. Habit.
♥  Psycho. Highly disturbed. Nutcase. Head. Head injury. Sick. Patient.
♥  Boone gets there to find what appears to be Shannon involved in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Bryan. It is revealed to be part of a con.
♥  Mind altering substance. Delusion. Hallucination.
♥  Boone calls Shannon’s Bryan issue poetic and Sawyer uses the same sentiment with Kate in Tabula Rasa.
♥  Game. The Lostie's involved in some sort of adventure journey hunting game with players and do-overs, missions/quests, two sides and teams.
♥  Of the earth. Sun’s garden and grove. The fruit and its seeds. Locke’s paste.
♥  Jin must know English.
♥  The monster makes a plethora of sounds. Mechanical, growls, clicking, hissing, breathing. We've heard giant footsteps, trees getting pushed down and wings flutter. Are they all one in the same? Does the 'monster' change its form? Is there more than 1 monster? If it knocks down trees how come we never see a path of knocked down trees?
♥  The sound of what I’m describing as wings fluttering, what is it really?
♥  “What did you do to him, to piss him off...Locke.” Locke is tied to the goings on in the jungle and the “monster”.
♥  Is Locke’s compass defective or is Locke? Or is it just a hint to all of them being a bit ‘off’. Or is the “Island” a bit ‘off’?
♥  Shannon was very excited to learn about the hatch...being a door. Maybe it’s a way out.

Vocabulary and Research...
♦  Seeds lay dormant, germinate and grow-transform/morph into something else.
   -SeeD: a mercenary working for Garden in the video game Final Fantasy VIII
   - Seeds (cellular automation): a cellular automaton rule similar to Conway's Game of Life
   -Seed- (Bit Torrent): a peer that has a complete copy of a torrent and still offers it for upload. (You're taking info from files on someone else's computer and copying it to yours.)
  -Bija- literally "seed", a metaphor for the origin or cause of things in Buddhism and Hinduism.
♦ Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni: Sculpted David in the nude- from 1501 to 1504. The 5.17 meter (17 ft) marble statue. The completed sculpture was unveiled on 8 September, 1504.
♦ Alto- Italian for height or up.  Adjectives: overhead-tall-wide-loud-deep-lofty- noble
♦ HIPS(Computing), a host-based intrusion- prevention system to detect attacks on the system it is installed on.
   - Human interaction proof, a Captcha.
♦ Smart-Intelligent S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) of hard disk drives.
  -Smart Recovery-Self Management and Recovery Training, an alternative to 12-step programs (such as AA or NA) from addiction recovery based on REBT principles.
  -SMART criteria- a mnemonic used to evaluate goals or objectives.
♦ Compass:  a compass is any magnetically sensitive device capable of indicating the direction of the magnetic north of a planet's magnetosphere. Like any magnetic device, compasses are affected by nearby ferrous materials as well as by strong local electromagnetic forces. Other, more accurate, devices have been invented for determining north that do not depend on the Earth's magnetic field for operation (known in such cases as true north, as opposed to magnetic north).
♦ Orienteering: a sport that combines map reading and cross-country running. Competitors make their way through unfamiliar terrain using a compass and a topographical map.

This episode shows us some of the power of Locke.   Not only because he can mix up freaky gunk and make people have visions, but because there are Lostie's who know he's important!    Locke knows he's important!    He is somebody, but whom?   Locke is the only one who has a clue to what’s really going on there.    He’s very, very smart,  thinking man, creative man. Could he be a creator of something? Does Boone know more about Locke besides the discovery of hatch?
So don't be fooled by first or even second impressions of Locke. He is not what you think. Maybe Locke gave us a bit of insight to who he is with his Michelangelo story.  One bit may be that "Locke is working".    One of my favorite Michelangelo quotes is “Genius is eternal patience.”

It just may be the freak of nature is more involved in what we’re seeing than anyone realizes. He gives an experience to people that is vital to their survival on this Island!! But I wonder which parts of the experience is not real, the “Flashes” or the “Island” experiences...or both. Could it be that this whole "Island" adventure is his or someone else's?

Let’s acknowledge the comment about “There’s nothing to make of Rousseau’s map” That’s because there really is nothing to make of it!

I always pay attention to Locke, you all know that, but my other key player is Hurley.

About the boar...yeah, um...I'll answer that here.  I was asked this question in a few e-mails. I would have liked to have waited to discuss it a few more episodes from now, but it came up too often, so here goes....There's not a need to catch the boar at this point of the "game" because once the hatch gets opened they don't need boar.  That's how things work on the Island. It’s a very smart and clever “Island”!!

Free your mind and see the truth.   Boone was able to do just that. It was a painful journey and experience for him, but he was able to face the truth and let go of certain feelings and move forward.
The Lostie's are looking to be pointed in the right direction to explore the Island”.    In addition to that I see that the Lostie's are very emotionally lost with no real sense of personal direction. Meaning they all seem to be a bit off of their own true North and are in search of some direction, some guidance.
Just as those issues blend together, I feel there is a distinct blurring of “Island” events and “Flashes”.
Yes, they are blurred together.

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are
my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.
