The Man Behind the Curtain.

Let's talk about LOST! The Man Behind the Curtain.

(click the pics!)

A woman is delivering a baby. The area is reminiscent to the "Island" jungle.   Hubby Roger is helping her.  She knows something is wrong.

A baby boy is delivered; she's in pain and there is a lot of blood. {Wedding ring on right hand.}
Roger is getting upset, “Emily. No one knows we're out here...We gotta get back. Can you hold on to the baby?"

Roger carries both of them; running through the woods to a main road. {Still looks like the "Island" jungle.} Across the road is a chain link fence and a sign that shows Portland 32.
Roger needs help!  A RED VW convertible pulls up. {It's Horace, wearing an army jacket and Olivia.} Roger explains they were hiking and she went into labor; she wasn't due yet and she's bleeding.
Horace-"How's the baby?"
Roger-"Fine. I guess."
Emily weakly tells him to, "Call him Benjamin."
She appears to die. Horace and Olivia just look at each other.

Ben, with his Harry Potters on, is in a tent holding a wooden carved doll. Richard asks him what he's got there. {Has Richard never seen the doll before? He knows Ben forever and this is the first time he's seen it?}
Ben tells him it's a birthday present today is his birthday, "You do remember birthdays, don't you, Richard?" {Lantern, Dharma whiskey, two glasses, books.}
Richard asks if Ben wants him to bring the tape back to Juliet.
Ben recorded the instructions for Juliet yesterday before they left, "I thought you already took it?"
Richard did not. Ben takes his walking stick and looks for Tom.

Tom is standing there with that GREAT dumbfounded look on his face. {YES, I must make a montage of theses precious TOM expressions!} Ben asks if he's seen his recorder but Tom doesn't move, apparently he's in shock.  Ben turns to see Locke carrying a large sack on his back.
Locke-"You said that if I killed my father, you'd tell me everything I wanted to know about the island. So why don't you start at the beginning."
We are looking at an empty tent with an empty chair; this leads into Ben's tent.

Ben pours two glasses of the Dharma whiskey. He tells Locke that he wishes it was a simple as taking out a dusty old book and opening it up.   Ben offers John the drink but he doesn't take it. {I love Ben's glasses on top of the open book. Files.} Ben tells him it's not that simple, "You probably think I'm the leader of this little community. But that's not entirely true. We all answer to someone, John." John wants to know who.
Ben-"His name is Jacob."
John wants to be taken to Jacob. Of course Ben says he can't do that and John's not surprised, "If you can't take me, maybe someone else will."
So John will go and ask Richard.
Ben gets a little protective, "He doesn't know where Jacob is. He doesn't talk to Jacob." Ben is the only one who talks to Jacob! No one else knows where he is.
Ben-"I was born here on this island. I'm one of the last that was. Most of these people you see, I brought them here. So, Jacob talks to me, John. He tells me, John what to do. Trusts me."
Conveniently, no one else has ever seen Jacob.
John-"You know what I think, Ben? I think there is no Jacob. I think you're people are idiots if they believe you take orders from someone else. You are the man behind the curtain. The Wizard of Oz! And you're a liar."
Ben wonders what he's based that theory on.
John feels if he was telling the truth then Ben's hand wouldn't be shaking. {WOW! That was a great moment!}
{Flash}
A young boy with glasses and an over the shoulder bag, walks down the dock from the submarine.
There are many other recruits with him.
This is young Ben. He's arrived with his father, Roger. {I LOVE that view of the island!} Roger sees workers dealing with Dharma boxes on pallets, three Dharma VW vans, one van has suitcases in front of it, barrels, boxes and crates in a little rowboat.
A welcoming sign, NAMASTE! THE DHARMA INITIATIVE.
The new arrivals are met by Dharma people; all dressed in tan jumpsuits and work clothes. The new arrivals are given leis. The workers have their first names and job title on the left side of their tops. {June and Casey}
Horace Goodspeed greets Roger. Horace's jumpsuit is gray and has the ARROW logo; he wears glasses. Everyone loves the words Namaste! {So do I.} Roger thanks him for the opportunity.
Horace-"And this must be Ben."
Roger tells Ben Mr. Goodspeed was there the day he was born…He's doing us a favor here, gave your old man a job."
Ben doesn't speak.
Horace feels, "That's okay. I bet he will when he has something to say. Right, Ben?... Hey, you hungry, kiddo?" {Kiddo! That's Christian's word!}
Horace tells him after he's done processing we'll have some lunch. He tells him he's gonna love it "here."

On an old TV a welcome video plays; hosted by…guess who? {Doesn’t give a name this time} Wearing a lab coat with the Swan logo on it. We see the barracks and someone hanging out their laundry, one riding a bike. The right handed host tells its residents for their own comfort and safety that they stay in their confines of their new living quarters, "Our barracks are surrounded by a high frequency sonar fence, to protect us from the Island's abundant and diverse wildlife. You are now a member of the Dharma Initiative."

Roger asks another new member, "What kind of wildlife you think this fence is protecting us from?"
The room has tables set up for Registration, Inoculations,  Assignments.
Someone calls out for "Roger Linus?"
While he goes with the jumped suited man, the video continues its instructions... "Every morning you will be given a new code, which will allow you to cross outside the fence, if you so desire. There are properties on this Island that exist nowhere else on Earth. Our mission is to study these properties for the betterment of mankind and advancement of world peace. Most of you will be working on the mainland. Should you be assigned to zoological studies...Three times a day..."
A young girl named Annie, dressed in a white shirt with her Dharma logo, introduces herself to Ben.  She offers him an Apollo bar; telling him they are allowed to eat as many as they want.
Roger-"Work Man? What’s this? 'Work Man'? I'm a janitor?...Goodspeed told me you people were doing experiments, changing the world. I didn't come here to clean up after ya."
Opal the nurse tells him, "If anything else opens up, you can feel free to apply for it."    Roger angrily takes his jumpsuit and Ben and walks away.

Charlie, Claire and Aaron are walking together. We hear Hurley's conversation with Desmond, "Dude, You know, this can't be worse that haggis."

Sawyer is hiding in the bushes and gets Sayid's attention. Sawyer tells Sayid he was with Locke, informing him-"He went back."
Sayid-"Back where?"
Sawyer says, with them,"Don't ask me where the hell it is cause it don't matter right now. What does matter is this." He shows him the tape recorder.

Rubber work boots are shown running through the jungle. It is Mikhail frantically calling for Ben! {Tom's face. HA!}
Ben comes out of this tent; still using the walking stick.
Ben-"Thought you were dead."
Mikhail-"I'm fortunate the pylons were not set to a lethal level."  {Wow! Now that's fucking luck.} Mikhail sees John and asks Ben, "What is he doing here? He's the one who tried to kill me!"
Ben-"He's with us now. Where have you been, Mikhail?"
Mikhail shares that he encountered several of his people in the jungle. They had an injured woman with them; she parachuted onto the island. Her helo crashed into the water. Ben "seems" surprised. John listens in.
Patchy-"She says her ship is approximately 130 klicks to the west of us. She has a radio telephone. {She said all that to him! Yeah.} He assumes they took her back to their camp.
Ben-"We'll be visiting their camp day after tomorrow. We'll take care of it."
Mikhail insists they have to go now!
John interjects, "Ben's not going anywhere with you." {Watch Ben's face this whole time! Love it!} He and I are going to see Jacob."
Ben is pissed and Richard stands in shock! Tom is...Dumbfounded! LOL!The camp is still.
Mikhail-"Please tell me this isn't true, Benjamin."
Ben gives his apologies to John as he has to deal with this now, "Our excursion will have to wait."
Patchy asks Ben, since when does he explain himself to him, an outsider. With that John beats the shit out of Mikhail! Ben calls for Tom and Richard to break up the fight but they just drink their coffee and watch. John asks Ben, "So when do we leave?"

Ben's reflection is seen in the stream. He and John are filling up a canteen and water bottle. John apparently had to beat Mikhail senseless to make his point. Alex's voice from behind, "Locke. I hear you're gonna go see Jacob. You're gonna need this." She gives him a ...say it with me...GUN! {Who would have guessed? Alex dark eyes.} Locke thanks her as Ben looks at her with that WTF?-look!
Alex-"Happy Birthday, Dad." And she heads back into the jungle.
{Flash}
Young Ben sits in a Dharma "Island" classroom. His teacher is Olivia; she is giving a demo on how a volcano works. {DVD NOD TO MY FRIEND THE ODI! YOU ARE A BLOODY ROCK GOD!!!} Annie asks the teacher, "Is that what happened to the volcano on this island?"
Olivia tells her, yes, but that was a long time ago, "Okay, let's get ourselves an eruption. Just add water and, voila! Now, I know it's not lava, but.." {Blackboard shows clue to 'tube'} Rumbling begins and everything starts to shake. {Arrow point, glass with water.} Loud Snap/Boom! The alarm sounds!
Olivia tells the kids to get into their positions. Young Ben is very nervous. Annie locks the back door with a chain and padlock. Olivia gets a rifle. You can hear screaming. Outside the window other members are armed and running. Annie takes Ben and his notebook into position and tells him not to worry, it's just the Hostiles.

Horace-"Hey man, I heard you ran into a little trouble."
Roger-"We're driving back from the Flame and we hear this huge explosion. {So what blew up?} The next thing I know there's a siren wailing and we're driving through a shootout." Young Ben peeks outside his bedroom door to take a look at the two men chatting. {He was petting his bunny friend.}
Horace-"Look. We're having some skirmishes with the natives." They're not sure who they are.
Roger-"Well, this ain't what I signed up for."
Horace tells him he did him a favor getting him work, "And don't forget about Ben. He's getting a quality education."
Roger doesn't give a damn about his education, "If I'm gonna get shot at, I want hazard pay. I want another 30 grand….And don't try to tell me you don't have it."
Ben hears tapping on the window in his room. It is his mother, Emily. Angry Roger wants Ben to go to bed. Sad and lonely Ben looks at a picture of his Mom and Dad and cries.
Sayid and Sawyer open the fabric door of Juliet's tent. {She has medicine bottles.} There's Kate asking what they're doing and reveals Juliet left with Jack. He took off right after she told him about Naomi.
Sayid-"And why would you do that, Kate?"
She says because she's hurt, because he's a doctor, and because he has a right to know.
Sayid-"Where is he now?"
Kate doesn't know.
Sayid-"Of coursed you don't." {That's what I'm saying!}
Kate tells him it might be time to tell everyone else about Naomi.
Sayid-"Play her the tape."

While Ben fills up his canteen he shares with John, "Something you should know, John, before we go, whether or not you think he's the Wizard of Oz, I can assure you that Jacob is very, very real. And we're going to go see him, and he's not going to like it. In fact I have a feeling he's going to be very angry. And that's why my hand was shaking because this is not a man you go and see. This is a man who summons you."
John-"Well, I guess there's a first time for everything." {As he eats his fruit}
As the two men set out, the camp watches them. {I think he makes eye contact with Mikhail and Richard. I'm not positive.}
{Flash.}
A cardboard box tied in a pretty blue bow.
Annie and Ben sit on the swings. {Not wearing Dharma uniforms.} Annie has given him a present; two wooden dolls.
Annie-"It's us. That's you, and that's me. Now we never have to be away from each other. Happy Birthday, Ben."
He thanks her. Ben is happy.
At night young Ben brings home his birthday present. Roger is passed out on the couch. Ben takes of Roger by taking off his shoes but this wakes him. "It's your birthday. Sorry I forgot. Kinda hard to celebrate on the day you killed your mom. She was just seven months pregnant. We went for a hike, but you had to come early. Now she's gone, and I'm stuck here on this island, with you. Happy birthday, Ben."
Hurt Ben runs out of the house crying.
He runs through the jungle to the sonar fence where he hears whispers. There is Mom standing beyond the fence. Ben wants to run to her but she stops him.

"Mom."
Emily-"It's not time yet, Benjamin."
She just walks back into the jungle. The sad, hurt, lonely young boy cries out to her, "Mom!"

Ben runs back to where he came from.

Ben with a flashlight and his bag of tricks lead John through the jungle. They stop at an ash line on the ground. Ben crosses it. John picks up some ash to check it out.

Back at the beach:
Claire-"So the whole world thinks we're dead?"
Sayid-"That's not important right now." {WTF?!!}
Naomi-"I'm sorry, don't you people want to be rescued?"
Sayid says they kept her a secret to keep her safe. Safe from what?
Sayid-"Safe from Jack. He spent a week with the Others and he brought one of them back with him. Here, amongst us. And every time we try to get answers from this woman he prevents her from giving them."

Sun feels Jack would never do anything to hurt them; she also believes Juliet is a good person. Sawyer asks her what she's basing that on. As a matter of fact he knows about Juliet taking her to a medical station, "Mrs. Kwon."
Sawyer plays the tape for them. Jin asks Sun what's going on.
Jack shows up and asks him where he got that. Sayid asks where he's been. Jack wants to know where Sawyer got the recorder.
Sawyer-"You really think you're in a position to be asking us questions?"
Juliet tells them to turn the tape over. Sawyer wants her to stay out of it.
Juliet- "You want to burn me at the stake? Here I am. But first, turn the tape over, press play.
Ben's message plays. "I'm sending three teams to extract Kwon the night after tomorrow. We won't have time to run Austen's sample, so if you determine that she or anyone else is pregnant, mark their tents and we'll take them too. Good Luck." {Not Namaste?

Juliet explains to Sun the night she saw the baby on the ultrasound she told Jack what they were making her do. Jack didn't tell the rest of them because he hadn't decided what to do about it yet.
Sayid-"Yet?"

 Jack-"I think we've got some catching up to do."
{Flash}
Young Ben with back pack and his over the shoulder bag head to the sonar fence. He brought his pet rabbit to use as a guinea pig when he disarms the fence.

 Ben enters numbers, {54439} sends the rabbit through. All is good.
Ben picks up the bunny and runs away in to the jungle.
Young Ben hears whispers in the jungle. "Mom?” He runs through the jungle yelling, "Mom!"

There are Whispers; he looks up to the tree tops. {DO the whispers come from above?}
A man appears behind him. It’s Richard, "I didn't mean to scare you. Wait. Are you lost? Wait!"
Ben wonders, "Are you one of them?"
One of who? The Hostiles

Richard asks the boy, "Do you even know what that word means? What's your name?"
The kid says "Ben." {'Richard' is dressed like a hippie. Unshaven. Doesn't sound native.} He asks Ben what he's doing in the middle of the jungle all by himself. Ben reveals he left home and he's looking for his mom.
Richard-"You think she's out here?"
Ben feels the man he won’t believe him.
Richard-"Try me."
Ben-"She's dead."
Richard-"Did she die here? On the island?"
Ben says no, when he was a baby.
Richard is intrigued, "Did you see her, out here, Ben...In the jungle?"
Ben-"She talked to me. She said that he couldn't 'come with her. She said it wasn't time yet.”
Richard tells him to go home, his people will be looking for him. Ben cries because he doesn't want to go back there; he hates it there. {Note the whole conversation Richard's two hands are up as if in a surrender gesture.} He asks the man to take him with him. Richard tells Ben maybe that can happen, if that's what he really wants. Richard wants Ben to think about it, "And you're gonna have to be very, very patient."

Night:
Ben with flashlight leads John up to a cabin/shanty/shack. {This seems a distance from the ash line.}

Ben-"We're here."
Ben tells John he'll want to turn off his flashlight, "Jacob feels the same way about technology that you do." {Interesting} They remove their packs.

Ben lights a lantern. John notes the gun in his back waistband.
Ben-"Once I open this door, there's no turning back. Are you sure this is what you want?"
Yes, Already!!
Ben announces at the closed door, "Jacob. I'm here with John Locke. We're coming in now."
This is a very dark space. Six Jars in the window, painting of a dog, a table with chair. Ben appears to be talking to an empty chair.
Ben introduces John, "Aren't you going to say hello, John?"
John thinks Ben's got a screw loose. We can hear one side of Ben's conversation with Jacob, "I told you he wouldn't."
John asks, "Who?…What are you talking about?"
Ben-"You can't see him?…he's sitting right here…in this chair."
Ben to Jacob/chair-"Yes I know, but he insisted."
Ben says to John, "You wanted the secrets to the island. Well, here they are. This is the man who can answer every single…"
Ben to Jacob/chair-"I am not. He made me bring him here, did you think that that was my…Sorry, may I finish…"
John calls him crazy. {Ben doesn’t like that!}
John-"You don't know anything about the island, do ya? You just made it all up."
Apparently Jacob is speaking to Ben at the same time, "Jacob, please, I can't hear him if you're gonna talk over what he says..."
John tells Ben to shut up, "Are you putting on a show for me? Or do you, do you really think there's someone there?"
Ben insists-"I know there's someone there."
John tells him he doesn't know anything. Ben is sorry he feels that way, "And I'm sorry that you're too limited to see."
John calls him pathetic and starts to leave but he hears a voice say "Help me."
He turns to Ben and asks him what he said. But Ben didn't say anything. John insists Ben must have said something.
Nope!
John shines the flashlight at Ben and all of a sudden things start banging around, loud sounds, chains, crashing of glass, rumbling! The lantern falls off the table and starts a fire! The window breaks! Ben holds on to the chair and yells, "That's enough! You've had your fun!"

Ben gets thrown back against the wall!
An image of someone sitting in the chair is seen for a brief moment! John freaks and runs out!
Ben comes outside and hangs up the lantern. He looks like he just ran a marathon.
John asks Ben, "What was that?"
Ben-"That was Jacob."
Ben leads John through the jungle. It's daylight. "What did you hear in there, John? What did Jacob say to you?"
John-"He didn't say anything to me. You did."
John feels there is no Jacob and he won't be taken in by the little show he put on last night, "You’re a fraud. And it's time your people knew the truth. And this is not the way we came."
Ben tells him he's taking him back another way; there's something he wants to show him. But John feels he's seen enough. Ben decides to open up to John and reveals that some of the things he's told him and everybody are simply not true. For starters, "I wasn't born on this island."
John-"Then where did you come from?"
Ben says that's what he wants to show him.

Grownup Ben is dressing in front of the mirror. He wears the Dharma jumpsuit; he is also a Work Man. Ben looks at his watch and puts on his over the shoulder bag. He then looks at the female wooden doll that represents Annie and puts it in his bag. He is off to work with his father. They load the Dharma van with supplies and beer. Roger wonders what his problem is, "You're usually Chatty Cathy in the morning."
Ben-"It's my birthday. I don't know why I keep fooling myself, after one of these years; you're actually going to remember."
Roger-"I'll tell you what. All we gotta do this morning is run this stuff out to Pearl Station. Why don't we go up to the mesa and drink some beers. Have some, I don't know, father and son time."
Ben would like that.
The song 'Road to Shambala' is playing in the van. They pull over. Ben takes off his glasses. Roger likes the view; it's beautiful. Dad drinks a beer. Ben wants to know if Dad really blames him for Mom dying.
Roger-"What do I know?"
Ben's Timex Indiglo watch shows 4:00.

Dad notes that Ben keeps looking at his watch and asks if he's got a date.
Roger-"If it makes you feel any better, I will do my best to remember your birthday next year."
Ben-"I don't think that's gonna happen, Dad."
Ben shares with Dad that he's missed mom too, "But the difference is, that for as long as I can remember, I've had to put up with you. And doing that required a tremendous amount of patience. Goodbye Dad."
Roger doesn't really react. Ben puts on a gas mask and pulls the tab on the gas can. Roger bleeds and appears to die.

Ben, still with the mask on, walks back to the barracks and sees the bodies everywhere. Ben closes Horace's eyes. {He had respect for him.}
Other armed and masked people/natives come out. Richard looks at his watch and asks Ben if they should go and get his father's body. Ben wants him left out there. {Note the gas didn't kill the chirping birds. Or are they fake bird sounds? Hmmmmm}

John is overlooking a mass grave filled with skeletons of the apparent purge. Ben-"This is where I came from, John. These are my people. The Dharma Initiative. They came here seeking harmony. But they couldn't even coexist with the islands original inhabitants. And when it became clear that one side had to go, one side had to be purged, I did what I had to do. I was one of the people smart enough to make sure I didn't end up in that ditch. Which makes me considerably smarter than you, John."
John quickly turns and pulls his knife but he is shot by Ben! John is lying in the ditch.
Ben still wants to know what Jacob said to him.
Shot John asks-"Why did you do this?"
Ben-"Because you heard him. Now I need to know what he said."
John-"Help me."
Ben threatens him with the gun, "I'm not gonna ask you again, what did he say to you?"
John-"He said, 'HELP ME'."
This troubles Ben, "Well I certainly hope he helps you, John."
John gasps and Ben leaves.

The Man Behind the Curtain is a GREAT EPISODE!
It should be called, Another Drunk Father!!!
Who is Ben and where does he come from, really? We see his drunk father's involvement with the Dharma people, but that's not enough information for me.  Benjamin... born on the island? Another "Island"?  Is he original to the "Island"?   An elder, wizard, scientist, teacher, leader, all around great guy!  Are there two Ben's?   Why does Richard entrust Ben to lead in any capacity and for what reason?  Richard could have recruited Ben to purge everyone and then Richard's people could have gone on with their lives on this Island! Why bring new people to the Island?

Things to note…Questions to ask…
* I guess another position never opened up for Roger. His role was always to be Work Man or maybe he never progressed.
*
John wants to be taken to Jacob but is led to this father.

* Eyes.
* Mask. Masks.
* Jack has called Ben, Benjamin.

* "Kiddo" is a term Christian uses. Liquor, whiskey, beer, drunk.
* How old is Richard? He doesn't seem to age. How old is Ben….? Who are the natives? Who are the Hostiles? Are these different groups of people?
* Wood Dolls {they look more like Totems} representing people. Where's Annie now?
* Why would Richard, a native, have a watch? {Time} These people who live in the middle of the jungle have clothes, weapons and a watch...but no shoes!
* Apollo Bars. Do they contain a hallucinogen for the children?
* Kate uses the name Annie in Tabula Rasa.
* Why is Ben killing people on his birthday?
* Are the survivors of flight 815 there to take over the "Island", and Ben is just recruiting them to his side now? Or are they all already on the same side and he's not told his people that there are more 'team' members? Are the Losties native to this "Island"?
* This "Island":  So there must be at least 1 other "Island"….Many other "Islands"? Could one of these "Islands" be considered the "outside world" or "Home",  "L.A.","Miami, "Iowa", "Santa Rosa", etc.. Or are they going back and forth to these towns? Maybe they never leave them.
* The "birth place" of Benjamin looks very much like the "Island". Horace rescues the infant and family by the side of the road. Coincidence? I think not! Sign says Portland…….Couldn't that mean that Ben was "born" on the "Island".    The "Island" is NOT IN PORTLAND, or is it. Portland may be one ‘portal’ to the "Island".
* Portland: Is Ben's experience happening in Portland?
* What is the sonar fence really there for?

* The ash line: Is it a protection line/circle? Magnetic discharge? Protection may be a metaphor. There are images/references to protective fence and even the dolls that look more like totems are for protection.  The "protecting" may not be just for external physical protection, it probably includes emotional/mental/spiritual  protection too.
* Emily is Locke's mother's name.
* John Locke drives a Red VW Beetle
* Ben has a thing for bunnies and books.
* Flame. Swan. Arrow. Pearl. Medical Stations.

* Dharma.  The start of the eight fold path.  The path to enlightenment.
* Purgation (Releasing) A releasing, a letting go of the details of your life. This is the act of shedding thoughts and distractions.  A time to open the heart and quiet the mind. Purging is a part required to reach Nirvana.
* What was the purpose of dark eyed Alex giving John the gun?
* Opal. Indiglo.
* Do the whispers come from above? Or "outside"?
* Six Jars/vessels/vase in Jacob's window. Could this represent six children? {Or jumping ahead to Oceanic 6?}
* PORT-LAND. Ships. Docks. Submarines.
* Technology.
* Is the way to travel safely to the island very deep, under the island and not above it? Or is there a 'tube' ? A distinct pathway? Under! Below!
* Why doesn't Richard appear to age but Ben and his father did? I find that very, very important. Regardless, I want whatever Richard is taking!

Vocabulary and Research...
* Hilo - Twist, double helix, intertwine.

Go back a few blogs and refresh your memory on what I discovered for Hostile.

The Man Behind the Curtain is a very moving story about a young lonely hurt boy who grows up to be in charge of something very important. But we also learned that in the beginning he shares very similar issues with other residents of the "Island".   Is he really of the "Island"?   Or do we still need to ask where does Ben really come from?
This episode made many connections to Jack and John.

We're still dealing with illusion, trickery and being fooled. But about what?

With the information in this episode and with Ben, it seems that on this "island" journey one must let go/purge, be born die and (celebrate birth) be reborn.

John accuses Ben of being the man behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz. But I must ask...Did John see himself in the cabin and run out of there from shock or plain ol fear?    Who really is the man behind the curtain? Where is the Man Behind the Curtain?   Maybe he's been right in front of our eyes all along.

I really gotta get to making that TOM facial expression montage!

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good! Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance! It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

He's Our You.

Let's talk about LOST! He's Our You.

A Chicken coop. Tikrit Iraq.
A man pulls a young boy out of the house in anger, “You are not a child anymore! Act like a man! You must kill one!”
The boy doesn’t want to.
 The man says, “You must do as your father asks.”
He wants the boy to listen to what he’s telling him.
The man gives the boy a butcher’s clever and tells the boy, “You must kill one of them. You will stay outside until you do!”
The boy stands alone staring into the coop.   A younger boy comes over and puts his hand on the shoulder of the other boy. He makes a trail with the seed bait, catches a chicken and breaks its neck. He gives the dead chicken to the older boy. The man praises the older boy, thinking he did the killing, “Good for you. You did it.”
The boy admits it wasn’t he who did it.
The disappointed man says, “Well, At least one of you will be a man.”
He looks into the eyes of the younger boy, “Well done, Sayid.”

Sayid stands in his cell; notes the camera and its blinking red light.
Phil sits in front of the video monitoring desk cleaning his gun. Young Ben comes in to bring Sayid another sandwich; chicken salad this time. Sayid hasn't been eating.
Phil doesn’t think it’s the menu, “He’s not eating. Save yourself the trouble kid.”
Ben-"But Horace told me to.”
Phil wonders, “Why does he care so much? The guy’s a Hostile.”
Ben- “That doesn’t mean he’s not hungry.”
Whatever. Phil okay’s the kid going in.
Young Ben enters the “Authorized Personnel Doors” into the cell area.
Ben tells Sayid he brought him a sandwich. Sayid takes the plate. Ben also gives him a book that he’s read twice already, “It's good.” {A Separate Reality}
Sayid-“Thank you.”
Ben asks if Richard sent him, “Richard. He’s your leader. Right.”
Sayid nods to note the camera that’s watching them.
Ben-“It’s just a camera. They can see, but they can’t hear. Four years ago I ran away into the jungle and Richard found me. I said I wanted to leave that I wanted to join you. So I’ve been patient. And if you’re patient too, I think I can help you.” {Making deals already?!}

Moscow.

A man carrying a paper bag hurries inside the hallway. He puts the bag down and runs into an apartment. {Through a few doors} He is running from someone. He chain locks the door and puts his ear to the door to listen. The man opens an armoire, tosses stuff out of the way to reveal a safe. He unlocks the safe by entering numbers on the keypad. {Daylight} Sayid enters and pulls a gun on the man. The man reveals a huge wad of money and offers it to Sayid. Sayid shoots him 2x. {Looks at his hand and head.}. Sayid heads down the stairs. {It's Daylight.}

Night. {Snow.}

Outside, Sayid dressed in black, enters large gates with monogrammed B on them.
He meets up with Ben. {Sayid passed that car on the street.} Sayid tells Ben the guy tried to bribe him, of course it didn’t work.
Sayid asks, “Where to now?”
Ben- “Nowhere. You’re done.”
Ben tells him “We’re done. Andropov was the last one. You’ve taken care of everyone who posed a threat to your friends.” {To his friends- Ben doesn't say "to you" or "to you and your friends"}
They look into each other's eyes.
Ben- “It’s been a pleasure working with you, Sayid.” And he walks away.
Sayid is angry and stunned, “So that’s it? I killed all those people for you, and now you’re just walking away.”
Ben- “You didn’t kill them for me, Sayid. You’re the one that asked for their names. There’s no one else in Widmore’s organization that we need to go after. Congratulations. Mission accomplished.”
Sayid asks sadly, almost sounding lost, “What do I do now?’”
Ben- "I supposed you should go live your life. You’re free, Sayid.”

Un-Free Sayid sits in his cell.
Radzinski unlocked the cell to let Horace the mathematician in. {Both men wear glasses} Horace, who’s packin tin snips, asks Sayid to, “Put out your hands.” After slight hesitation Sayid does. Horace snips off his plastic cuffs.
Sayid- “Thank you.”
Horace is happy to “hear” his voice, “I’m Horace. Now’s the part where you tell me your name.” Sayid doesn’t speak. Horace needs him to tell him what he was doing out in that jungle.
Radzinski interjects, “Ask him about the model.
Horace tells Radzinski, “I got this.”
Horace continues “Those handcuffs. Are you having some kind of problem with your people? Because either you’re in some kind of disagreement, which makes me wanna help you, or you’re a spy trying to infiltrate us. So which is it?”
Sayid is silent.
Horace removes his glasses, “OK. I’m gonna give you an hour to decide whether you wanna talk to me. But if decide you don’t want to, then I’m gonna have to take this to the next level.”
They exit the cell.

Bacon {5 pieces-looks like a temple, "Asian or Buddhist character"} burns on the stove.
Juliet stares out the window.
LaFleur dressed in his Dharma jumpsuit removed the burning bacon that Juliet “forgot” about.
He asks her what’s on the TV.

They see from their window Kate and Jack across the way.
LaFleur- “Aahh.”
Juliet-“It's over, isn’t it?”
What’s over?
Juliet- “This. Us. Playing house. All of it. I never actually thought they’d come back.”
James feels “So they’re back. Nothin’s changed.”
Juliet-“What if Sayid tells them who he is.”
James- “Sayid aint sayin nothing.”
Juliet is worried. James tells her he has this under control. There's a knock at the door.

James answers it, “Morning H.” {Horace}
Horace shares with Jim he just spoke to the prisoner, “We have a problem.” Uh Oh!
The prisoner hasn’t said anything; which is what worries Horace. {Screw that! No news is good news! Lol} Horace needs to find out why he violated the truce, “Why the hell he would come into our territory. I’m just gonna have to have Oldham do his thing on em.”
Jim- “That psychopath! No way.”
Horace asks what choice does he have. Worried LaFleur wants to have a go at him, alone.
Horace-“Be my guest, but I’m telling ya man, he is not gonna talk.
LaFleur feels, “Oh, he’ll talk to me.”

LaFleur heads down to Dharma Security. He passes by Phil at the monitor desk and tells him to take his lunch.
Phil- “You going in there alone?”
LaFleur- “Take your lunch, Phil.”
Yes sir.

Sawyer sees Sayid standing against the cell wall. He asks him how he’s doing.
Sayid shares with him, “A 12 year old Ben Linus brought me a chicken salad sandwich. How do you think I’m doing?”
Sawyer-“Sweet kid, huh?”
Sayid wonders, “How can you live with him here?"
Sawyer- “Cause I aint got a choice.”
Sayid-“Is that so?
Sawyer- “Let’s see how you feel after three years of living in the 70’s. Lucky for you I spent that time getting myself in a position to save your ass.” {So, Sawyer knew this was coming?} Sawyer picks the key to unlock the cell. Sawyer tells Sayid he’s sorry and head butts him. This is to make “them” believe that Sayid didn’t give up his confession easily.
Sayid-“What confession?”
Sawyer makes up a story that Sayid was trying to defect, “You were gonna offer some Intel on the Others in exchange for living with us.”
Sayid asks him why would he want to do that.
Sawyer- “What the hell else am I supposed to do with you?”
Sayid- “Let me go.” Sawyer can’t just let him go because these people trust him. He shares with Sayid he’s built a pretty good life here. If lets him go, “All that goes away. So you got yourself a choice, Chief. Either you cooperate and join the party in Dharmaville or you’re on your own.”
Sayid- “Then I guess I’m on my own.”

Hurley delivers some fresh off the griddle breakfast food to Jack and Kate’s table. He tells them not to forget trying the dippin sauces they really bring out the ham. {Kate is half in/Half out of her Dharma jumpsuit again.}
Hurley asks what’s going on with Sayid. Jack doesn’t know anything yet. Kate gets a bit anxious because she knew he was at Sawyers last night.
Jack- “He told me to leave him alone and let him do his job.”
Hurley-“And you’re going to?”
Yep.
Kate says she’ll talk to Juliet; see what she can tell her. Hurley questions if Sawyer didn’t tell her anything why would Juliet. He feels Juliet wouldn’t say anything because she lives together with Sawyer, not as roommates, “You know, together like you guys were. I thought it was kinda obvious. Who couldn’t see that coming?” {Who?} Hurley leaves to go make more waffles.
Kate asks Jack if he knew.
Yep, he did.

Sayid relaxes in his cell. Keys jingle.
Roger Linus enters the area to mop up.
Roger talks to Sayid. “You know what I can’t figure out…is how the hell you got caught. You Hostiles are supposed to be the kings of the jungle. How dumb are you that you got captured by these idiots. Hahaha.”

Sayid still relaxing on the cot, “And yet you’re the one who mops up after them.”
Roger changes his tune, “Yeah well, we’ll see how cute you are when Oldham gets done with you, Pal.”

Young Ben enters carrying a tray. He is obviously frightened by his father. Roger asks the boy what the hell he’s doing there.
Young Ben replies nervously, “I was bringing you a sandwich.”
Roger scoffs that Ben never made him a sandwich in his life. Ben nervously stumbles over his words trying to tell his dad that he made one for himself and he’d bring dad one. Sayid watches. Roger tells the boy not to lie then he grabs Ben and throws him up against the bars of the cell. Ben admits to making the sandwich for “him” {Sayid} Nobody told him to do that.
Young Ben cries, “I just thought that…”
Roger tells Ben to “go home….I’ll tell you what to think.”
Ben leaves.
Roger tosses the tray and leaves, locking the door behind him.

Sayid in his yellow tee shirt continues to build a better world. He is working construction in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Sayid hears someone behind him. It’s Ben.
Sayid asks Ben how he found him.
Ben- “I looked.”
Ben reveals to him John Locke is dead.
Sayid looks surprised.
Ben- “I think he was murdered.” {Really?!}
Sayid- “Why would anyone kill him?”
Ben- “I’d say it was retribution for the work you and I have been doing.”
Ben tells Sayid he’s in danger. After all if Ben can find him so can the people that found Locke. “The same people who, even as we speak are sitting outside Hugo’s Mental Institution.”
Sayid- “They’re watching him?”
Yep. A man in a sedan had been there all week just waiting, presumably waiting for Sayid or Ben to show their faces. Sayid figures Ben came all that way to suggest to him that he kill this man.
Ben-“You don’t want to?”
Sayid- “What makes you think I want to?”

Ben shares, to put it simply, “You’re capable of things most other men aren’t. Every choice you’ve made in your life, whether it was to murder or to torture, it hasn’t really been a choice at all has it? It’s in your nature. It’s what you are! You’re a killer, Sayid.”
Sayid looks right in Ben’s eyes and says, “I’m not what you think I am. I don’t like killing.”
In that case, Ben apologizes, “I was mistaken about you.”
Ben walks away.

Sayid is in his cell. LaFleur, Radzinski, Phil and security guys enter the cell. Le Fleur tells Sayid it’s his last chance, “You got anything to say?”
Apparently he's got nothing to say so LaFleur zaps him with the zapper!
LaFleur tells security to take him to Oldham; they cuff Sayid. You can see LaFleur’s troubled.
A Dharma van pulls up to a tee-pee.{Sweat lodge} an old Victrola plays a 78rpm record. {‘I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, baby’ is the song.} Prayer flags are hung.
Horace calls out to Oldham and asks if “we’re” ready.

Sayid whispers to LaFleur, “Who is that man?
LaFleur informs him, He’s our you.”
Oldham uses an eye dropper to drop the liquid drug onto a sugar cube. {Is Sayid a horse?! Lol} Sayid won’t open his mouth to ingest the sugar drug so Oldham has security put him in the restraints. Sayid puts up a fight but is restrained by being chained/strapped to a tree. {Yep, Horse. Lol. BTW, they remove his cuffs.}
LaFleur looks concerned.

Oldham tells Sayid not to worry, “They’re for your protection. There are side effects to what I’m giving you.”
Oldham tells the guys to “Open his mouth.”
Phil and Radzinski pry open Sayid’s mouth and force him to ingest the sugar drug. Oldham peacefully tells Sayid, “Don’t be afraid. Just turn your mind off. Let it take effect.”
Sayid tries to break free.
Oldham- “It’s beyond your control. So fighting it is a poor use of your energies. You see, whether you struggle or not one thing’s for sure, friend, you will tell us the truth.”

It's night on the dock. {Note boat named Illusion. I friggin LOVE that!} This is the night Ben tells gun toting Sun about a woman who going to tell them how to get back to the island. Kate says this is insane, calls them crazy, yada, yada, yada… Sayid walks away. Ben asks where he’s going.
Sayid-“I don’t want any part of this. And if I see you again, it will be extremely unpleasant for us both.

Sayid sits at a bar drinking MacCutheon whiskey.
Ilana all dressed up sits next to Sayid. She asks him how much a glass of that scotch runs him. Sayid, catching a buzz, feels whatever it is, it’s worth it. Flirty Ilana doesn’t understand why someone would pay for 120 bucks for a glass of anything. She reads the menu.
Sayid- “If you knew what my drink costs, why did you ask me?”
She tells him it’s the same reason she’s eating her dinner there instead of a table. She orders the rib-eye, bloody. {Vampire?! Lol}
Sayid asks the seductress if she’s a professional.
Ilana-“A professional what?” {Really?!} “You think I’m a prostitute?”
She’s not a professional anything; she just thought he looked sad, “I like sad men.” {She’s an ass!} Sayid’s sorry to hear that. Ilana moves over to the seat next to him and asks him other than drinking alone at bars, “What do you do? For a living.” Sayid shares he’s between jobs at the moment.
Miss Nosey asks, “What did you do?”
Sayid- “The only thing I was ever good at.”
She wants to know why he quit.
Sayid- “I’m trying to change
She now knows why he is sad, “When you’re that good at something there are always going to be people who tempt you into staying the same.” {That’s a fact.} Sayid asks how she knows so much about temptation.
Ilana- “Buy me a glass of that scotch and I’ll tell you.”

Looking up at the spinning trees, Sayid is somewhere else but seems content. Oldham and the men wait. Horace walks up to restrained Sayid, “Hello there.”
Sayid seems to clear his thoughts and focus.
Horace waves his hand in front of Sayid as if to say ‘look over here’.

Oldham tells Sayid he’s going to ask him a few questions; he wants him to relax and answer them truthfully “Not that you’ll have any choice about it. What is your name?”
In his happy altered state Sayid replies, “Sayid Jarrah.”
This pleases Horace.
Oldham- Why were you in handcuffs when we found you?"
Very sad Sayid reveals, “Because…Because I am a bad man.”
Oldham asks if he was running away from his people.
Oldham- “The Hostiles.”
Sayid proclaims, “I am not a Hostile.”
Radzinski rolls his eyes at this.
Horace asks, “Then where did you come from, Sayid?”
Sayid looks up, “I came on a plane.”
The men are confused, what plane?
Happy and high Sayid, “Ajira flight 3 1 6. And that’s how I returned to the Island.”
Oldham- “Returned? You’ve been here before?”
Sayid- “Oh yes. The first time I was on Oceanic flight 8 1 5. Crashed. I was here for 100 days. Then I left. Ask Sawyer.”
They wonder who Sawyer is,, except for Radzinski who doesn’t care, as none of this matters, “Ask him about the Flame.”
Horace tells Radzinski to be quiet.

Oldham asks Sayid what he knows about “our stations here.”
Sayid reveals, “I know the flame was a communications station. The Pearl was to observe other stations. The Swan was to study electromagnetism. But of course that was before the incident.”
Radzinski’s upset, “The Swan! How could he know what we were gonna name it? We haven’t even built it yet. I told you, he saw the model! You see, he is a spy. I knew it!”
Horace isn’t gonna tell the fired up Radzinski again to “Cool it.”

Sayid {Reminds me of a scene from Linda Blair/exorcist } “You’re all going to die, you know… You’re going to be killed.
Upset Sawyer rolls his eyes.
Horace- “How exactly would you know this, Sayid?”
Sayid- “Because I am from the future.”
Oldham second guesses himself and suggests maybe he should’ve used half a dropper,“Oops.”
Sayid gets a fantastic case of the giggles, “You used exactly enough.”

"Bench grinder, lube equipment, drill press over here. Plugs, bearings, sockets, ratchets here. How are you with a flat 4 engine?”
Juliet shows Kate around the garage. Kate has no idea what Juliet’s talking about. She switches gear asks Kate, “Jack told you about us.”
Kate shares "No", it was actually Hurley who spilled the obvious beans. Juliet feels it’s a relief, actually. She wasn’t sure quite how to do it without it sounding like she wanted Kate to stay away. Apparently it’s fine with Kate.
The ladies watch Horace and the security team bring in cuffed Sayid.
Sayid sees that Juliet and Kate are there. Sawyer stops to make eye contact with the girls. Juliet looks worried; watch Kate!

Horace heads a meeting about what to do with Sayid. Amy stands in the room with her infant. Radzinski suggests they kill him.
LaFleur tells them to hold on a second, “We’re not killin anyone.Right?
Horace states he violated the truce, “What do you think they would do if they caught one of us?”
LaFleur- “Since when did we start acting like them? We’re civilized.”
Horace agrees, “We have a rule of law. And we’ve given him every opportunity to defend himself.”
Fidgety Radzinski reminds Horace that this man’s “seen things. He knows things. There’s nothing to talk about. He’s a spy.”

LaFleur asks Stu if he’s sure about that. He tried to escape from the Hostiles; he obviously has problems with his people. Radzinski feels sharing their secrets is the quickest way for him/Sayid to solve those problems. Horace is going to need a little more time to consider.
Radzinski scoffs, “The longer he’s among us, the more danger we’re in.”
LaFleur can talk to him, he just needs more time.
Radzinski snaps at La Fleur that he had his chance.
LaFleur- “Why are we on your clock, Radzinski?”
Radzinski suggests they call for a vote, “Either we make a decision or I call Ann Arbor. And they make it for us.”
Amy feels Radzinski is right. She pleads with Horace, “I can’t sleep with one eye open. We have a baby now. We have to think about Ethan….We have to think about all the children here. How are we going to feel safe with this man around? I don’t know what he’s up to, but we can’t keep him here.”
This really troubles La Fleur. Amy says they have no choice. Horace puts it to a vote, “All in favor of Radzinski's solution raise your hand.” Everyone raises their hands except LaFleur.
Horace turns to LaFleur, “I would really like to say its unanimous.”
LaFleur concedes.

Sayid carries Ilana into the room. {Kissing up a storm.} She tells him just for the record, she really was just having dinner. On the bed, Ilana tells Sayid to remove her boot. He starts to unzip the boot and she kicks him in the face! Bamm! Powww! Ilana pulls out her gun and warns him, “You so much as flinch and you’re dead.”
Sayid- “So who are you?
She reveals she’s a professional hired by the family of Peter Avellino to bring him to Guam. The man he killed in cold blood last year on a golf course in The Seychelles. She’s a Bounty Hunter.
Ilana- “It doesn’t matter what I am. You’re going to answer for what you’ve done.”

LaFleur enters Sayid’s cell, “Hit me in the face.”
He feels Sayid owes him one any way, “So make it a good one.”
LaFleur lays out a plan to make it look like Sayid took the keys out of his pocket and “Let yourself out.” He also mentions the guard outside is Phil, the dimwit.
Sayid could most likely get his gun before he even realizes he’s out, “Just promise me you won’t shoot em.”
Content Sayid appreciates the offer, but he’s fine right “here.”
LaFleur tells him their gonna kill you, “They just took a vote. Even the new mom wants you dead.”
Sayid calmly replies, “I’m going to stay here, James.”
James wonders why he would change his mind from this morning especially after Sayid begged to be let go.
Sayid-“Because… when I woke up in the jungle...and I realized I was back on this island, I felt there was no purpose to it. But now I know exactly why I’m here.”
James-“To get shot! Then what? You’re out of your mind.”
James leaves.

LaFleur heads home. On the porch he looks over to {Kate’s/Jack’s. Is he going to ask Jack for help with the Sayid situation or just to talk to Kate?} porch. Acting upon emotion he knocks on that door; {4x} Kate answers. She closes the door behind her so the person in the house can’t hear them talk. Sawyer asks her why she came back. {Watch Kate’s face. She’s nervous.} He’s upset because Sayid just filled his ear with some crap about his damn purpose, “and I wanna know...why’d ya’ll come back?...Why Kate?”
Kate doesn’t know why everyone else came back, she only knows why she did.
Just then a driverless flaming Dharma van drives through Dharmaville and crashes into a house!
LaFleur-“What the hell?”
Siren can be heard while people break a window to escape the burning house.
Sawyer gets residents involved in getting the hoses going. {Grab a wrench, opening valves, grab the fire gear} Kate’s pulling people out of the burning house. Explosion!
Jack comes running out to see the chaos and asks Le Fleur what happened.
LaFleur-“Three years no burning buses. Ya’ll are back for one day...”
He tells Jack, “Get on that hose!”
Juliet comes running out. Jack’s trying to put out a fire. LaFleur radio’s all security to inform them they have a fire, “Everyone get to building 15 now!”
Phil, in the security monitor room, “Roger that. I’m on my way.”
He grabs a rifle and heads up the stairs.

Hooded young Ben hides in the dark waiting for Phil to leave. He enters the cell area where Sayid appears to have been waiting. Sayid asks Ben what happened to his {broken/taped} glasses. Apparently his father did it for bringing Sayid a sandwich.
Sayid understands this as his father was a hard man as well.

Ben cries, ”I really hate it here…If I let you out, will you take me with you?...To your people
Sayid- “Yes, Ben, I will. That’s why I’m here”

At the airport we hear the announcement for Ajira flight 3 1 6 to Honolulu and Guam.
Ilana escorts her cuffed prisoner.
Sayid observes Hurley at ticket counter and then Jack, Sun and Kate. He realizes something is up.
Sayid asks Ilana, “Are you sure we’re going to Guam?”
Ilana-“Where else would we be going?”
Sayid nervously asks her for a favor, “Can we get the next plane?”
He tells her he’s very superstitious when it comes to flying.
Ilana offers to buy him a rabbit’s foot at the gift shop, “This is the plane we’re taking.”

On the plane Sayid looks/sees Sun via the view from between the seats. He seems very worried.
Ilana apologizes to him about the handcuffs, “But at least we’re in business.” We hear Ben tell the stewardess to wait and he thanks her for not closing it. Ben boards the plane. Beat up Ben and Sayid share an awkward moment.
Jack tells Hurley if he wants to get back this is how it’s gonna have to be.”

Sayid asks Ilana if she’s working for Benjamin Linus.
Ilana- “Who’s Benjamin Linus?” {If she’s not working for Widmore maybe Ben used one of his aliases.}
Sayid states, “He’s a liar. A manipulator. A man who allowed his own daughter to be murdered to save himself. A monster responsible for nothing short of genocide.”
Ilana asks why would she work for somebody like that.
Sayid-“I did.”

Hooded Ben unlocks the cell, releasing Sayid.
The two run through the jungle.

They come upon a path where a Dharma van is coming. Ben falls down. Sayid tells Ben to hide. The van pulls over.
Sayid tells Ben to “Shhhh.”
Jin gets out with his flashlight and gun.
Sayid approaches Jin. Jin asks what he’s doing there, “how did you get out?
Sayid lies and tells him, “Sawyer let me go. They were going to kill me.”
What? Jin looks confused.
Jin’s radio announces, “Attention the prisoner escaped. The Hostile is no longer in custody. Be on the lookout. He could be armed.”
Sayid tells Jin, “They don’t know he released me. Please Jin. I need to keep moving.”
Jin says okay, but wants to talk to him first so he radio’s LaFleur. Sayid knocks out Jin.
Ben sees this and impressed asks Sayid, “Where’d you learn to do that? Come on. We better He called LaFleur."
Ben starts to walk away. Sayid takes Jin’s gun and quietly says, “You were right about me.”
Ben- “What?”
Sayid- “I am a killer.
Sayid shoots young Ben in the chest with one shot.
They boy falls to the ground.
Sayid cries and then runs away.
He’s Our You is a GREAT EPISODE!!! Again the Shaman/guide role is brought up as well as altering the mind..consciousness.  While this may be done for the purpose of learning, growth, enlightenment or even getting to the truth, we must remember manipulating the mind can cause the blurring of reality.
Let the episode magic, uh, I mean journey begin!

Things to note…Questions to ask...
* The man in the opening scene with the two boys holds his hands in a Buddhist Mudra gesture: Dhyana- This is the absolute balance of meditation.
* Cheng is wearing the Swan logo in the welcome/orientation video at the processing center, yet we're to believe the Swan isn't built yet. And apparently naming it wasn't known 'publicly'. So why have patches with a Swan on it already?
* Choice. Change. Purpose.
* Menu. Exit. Communication.
* Watch.
* Who sent the flaming Dharma bus, young Ben? Does Juliet play a part?
* Lineage. Royalty. Special.
* We have seen Sayid in moments of meditation and prayer.
* In Greatest Hits, Charlie mentions his band got their start at the Night and Day Bar on Oldham Street.
* Things are indeed happening within their heads/ minds.
* Santa Rosa. Psychopath. Crazy. Insane. Pharmaceuticals. Drug trip. Open your mind. Sweat Lodge.  Meditation.
Awakening. ALTERED STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS!
* Illusion.
* Geronimo Jackson.  Alice in Wonderland. Down the rabbit hole.
* A few lyrics from the 78 record…”Dream a while. Scheme a while.”
* Horace knows.
* Radzinski likes control.
* Temple.
* Learn.  Listen/hear-Look/see
* Kate and her half in/half out of the jumpsuit bit… What? She can’t decide which side to be on? Or is she preparing to run? Does she know what’s coming too?
* Ann Arbor= DeGroots?
* Ilana knows about MacCutcheon whiskey.
* Le Fleur, “Since when did we start acting like them? We’re civilized.” In season 1 Sawyer tells Jack “He’s in the wild.”
* The scene on the dock- Here we see Sayid walk away: Ben asks where he’s going.
Sayid- “I don’t want any part of this. And if I see you again, it will be extremely unpleasant for us both." BUT in the episode This Place is Death, that scene on the dock is different:
Especially the part when Sayid walks away. He wants no part of this. If he sees Jack or Ben again, “it will be extremely unpleasant for all of us.”

*In the episode DAVE, Sayid threatens to kill "Henry Gale" and actually pulls the trigger!

Vocabulary and Research...
* Carlos Castaneda author.The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, A Separate Reality and Journey to Ixtlan. The book The separate reality: Further conversations with Don Juan is in 2 parts. Part 1 The preliminaries of seeing. Part 2-The task of seeing.
He also wrote a series of books that describe his purported training in traditional Mesoamerican shamanism. In Castaneda’s book, The Art of Dreaming, he describes an encounter during a lucid dreaming session with a supposed conscious entity that was trapped by other inorganic beings. The trapped entity was named the Blue Scout because its "energy" appeared blue-ish and it was an energetic scout (meaning it was outside of its original realm).
The Art of Dreaming
is said to describe the steps needed to master control and consciousness of dreams. The Toltecs of Don Juan Matus' lineage believed that there are seven barriers to awareness, which they termed The seven Gates of Dreaming. In The Art of Dreaming Castaneda describes extensively how a state called Total Awareness can be achieved by means of dreaming.

* Shaman: The functions of a shaman may include leading a sacrifice, preserving the tradition by storytelling and songs; fortune telling, either guiding to their proper abode the souls of the dead (which may be guided either one-at-a-time or in a cumulative group, depending on culture), and/or curing (healing) of ailments. The ailments may be either purely physical afflictions -- such as disease, which may be cured by flattering, threatening, or wrestling the disease-spirit (sometimes trying all these, sequentially), and which may be completed by displaying some supposedly extracted token of the disease-spirit (displaying this, even if "fraudulent", is supposed to impress the disease-spirit that it has been, or is in the process of being, defeated, so that it will retreat and stay out of the patient's body), or else mental (including psychosomatic) afflictions - such as persistent terror (on account of some frightening experience), which may be likewise cured by similar methods. Usually in most languages a different term other than the one translated "shaman" is applied to a religious official leading sacrificial rites ("priest"), or to a raconteur ("sage") of traditional lore; there may be more of an overlap in functions (with that of a shaman), however, in the case of an interpreter of omens or of dreams.
On the island of Papua New Guinea, indigenous tribes believe that illness and calamity are caused by dark spirits, or masalai, which cling to a person's body and "poison" them. Shamans are summoned in order to "purge" the unwholesome spirits from a person.
A rite of passage for shamans-to-be, commonly involving physical illness and/or psychological crisis.
The shaman plays the role of healer in shamanic societies; shamans gain knowledge and power by traversing the axis mundi and bringing back knowledge from the heavens. Even in western society, this ancient practice of healing is referenced by the use of the caduceus as the symbol of medicine.
Generally, the shaman traverses the axis mundi and enters the spirit world by effecting a transition of consciousness, entering into an ecstatic trance, either auto-hypnotically or through the use of entheogens. The methods employed are diverse, and are often used together. Some of the methods for effecting such trance states: Tobacco, Drumming, Dancing, Singing, Listening to music. Icaros/medicine songs, Vigils, Fasting, Sweat Lodge, Vision Quests, Mariri, Sword fighting/Bladesmithing, Power or “master” plants used as incense or consumed to heal or attain altered states.

* Prayer flag is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes. Unknown in other branches of Buddhism, prayer flags are believed to have originated with Bön, which predated Buddhism in Tibet. Traditionally they are woodblock print. Traditionally, prayer flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colors. The five colors represent the elements, and the Five Pure Lights and are arranged from left to right in a specific order. Different elements are associated with different colors for specific traditions, purposes and sadhana:
Blue (symbolizing sky/space)
White (symbolizing air/wind)
Red (symbolizing fire)
Green (symbolizing water)
Yellow (symbolizing earth)
The center of a prayer flag traditionally features a “Ta” (powerful or strong horse) bearing three flaming jewels (specifically ratna) on its back. The Ta is a symbol of speed and the transformation of bad fortune to good fortune. The three flaming jewels symbolize the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddhist teachings), and the Sangha (Buddhist community), the three cornerstones of Tibetan philosophical tradition.
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to 'gods,' a common misconception, rather the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.
By hanging flags in high places the "Wind Horse" will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, This act symbolizes a welcoming of life changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.

Long time readers of my notes are not strangers to me reminding them to not only watch the show but to “really look so you can see, don't just hear things, really listen and feel the experience.”  I know that sounds very bizarre, but we have been told to do this many, many times over the past five years. We’re supposed to be opening our minds.
"Careful observation is the only key to true and complete awareness."

Haven't you ever felt like you needed an escape from things to try to figure out who you are or who you want to be?
Maybe even to reflect upon whom you are now, how you became this person and maybe find the change you need to become a new you? Don't you wish it was as easy as someone just giving you the answer? Unfortunately that answer can only come from our self, our own heart.  All I can tell you is, if you're feeling lost and need to reconnect or you're searching for an answer or a change, get away to find yourself. The island cures what ails you.
Experience the unexpected!
Don't be a stranger... Come Back!

My Mantra…Has been and continues to be, WAKE UP!

The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.

LaFleur.

Let's talk about LOST! LaFleur.

Sawyer turns his eyes away from the bright light coming up from the well. He’s still holding the rope that lowered John down into the well.
Miles tells Sawyer, “I think you can let go of that now.”
The rope is completely covered by earth.
Sawyer freaks out that John is down there and he wants to get John out.
Juliet- “James. Stop. We can’t help him. Wherever John went, he’s gone. And wherever we are is before that well was ever built.”
Miles-“Yeah. Way before.”
Jin in GREAT English asks Miles, “What make you?...”
They all see the backside of what appears to be an Egyptian statue looking out over the water. At the same time...

...John is calling out for James’ help from inside the well. John makes his way, limping to the “Stuckwheel.
He pulls it back.    Sawyer and the group start grabbing their heads, experiencing the bright light and hummm. FLASH...

The group is on the ground, having felt the effects of severe pain in their heads.
Juliet- “What the hell was that?”
This time the “bright light” experience was different, more like an earthquake.
Sawyer looks up to see the well has returned!  There are also other ruins around them.   He runs to jump into it to go after Locke but the well seems to have been closed up with rocks and earth.  They all discover their headaches are gone and their noses aren’t bleeding anymore.
Juliet thinks, “It’s over. I think John did it.”
Jin, in great English asks, “Now what?”
Sawyer- ”Now we wait for him to come back.”
For how long, you ask...
Bearded Sawyer-”As long as it takes.”

3 Years Later.

A Reel-to-Reel tape loaded up for play.  The song Candida plays. {The stars won’t come out, if they know that you’re around.}
Jerry/Dharma Security and Rosie dance to the tune. {Geronimo Jackson shirt/ red white and blue} They are in a security station with eight monitors.
Phil enters and asks the couple, “Are you kidding me? I’m gone 10 minutes and you’re having a hootenanny.”
Jerry tells him he should be thanking Rosie for dropping off some brownies. Phil tells Jerry she shouldn’t be there, “We’re on the clock, man.”
Jerry wants him to “Mellow out, man. What’s gonna happen… the polar bears are gonna figure a way out of their cages?”
Phil argues that’s not the point, if LaFleur finds out what he’s doing… Rosie sees something on a monitor.
Phil wonders, “Is that a hostile?”
Nope. It’s Horace. He’s at the pylons, drunk and playing with dynamite. He lights a stick and throws it beyond the pylons at a tree. Phil freaks and yells for Rosie to get out of there now!
Phil told Jerry “not to bring her here.”
The situation is bad. It’s three in the morning and they’ll have to wake up LaFleur. The guys reconsider that for a second, maybe they can handle it themselves, but…What if Horace blows himself up and LaFleur kills them for not waking him!
Phil- “We gotta go, NOW!”

They run through the dark to the Dharma Initiative village. Neither has the nerve to knock on the door to get LaFleur. Finally Phil knocks and the porch light goes on.   Phil apologizes for bothering Mr. LaFleur but they have a situation out at the pylons.  The door opens, they tell La Fleur that Horace has dynamite and he’s blowing up trees LaFleur, Head of Security is revealed to be Sawyer.

A horn honks; signaling Miles/Security he needs to hurry. Relax, he’s coming. He is also Dharma security.
Miles gets in the VW bus/van, says “Hi boss” to LaFleur {Wearing glasses.}
LaFleur-“Evening Enos. Got your zapper with ya?”
They’re gonna need it because “Our fearless leader is out blowing up trees.”    He’s doing that because he’s loaded.
Miles-“Since when does Horace drink?”
LaFleur tells him he doesn’t, “So we’re gonna keep this on the down low.”

A small fire burns, Miles and LaFleur come upon a sleeping/passed out Horace; still holding his bottle. Miles is instructed to put out that fire and pack up this dynamite, La Fleur will take him home. Miles wants to know why those chores can’t be the other way around.
La Fleur-“You wanna tell Amy where we found him?”
I guess not.
Miles helps him pick up Horace.

Three knocks on the door.  LaFleur carries Horace.   Pregnant Amy answers the door, “OMG. Is he OK?”
LaFleur-“You tell me.”
Amy tells him to put Horace on the couch. {Owl} She can smell his breath.
Amy- “Where’d you find him?”
She’s told, “by The Flame blowing up trees with dynamite.”
Apparently the reason for this behavior is because Horace and Amy had a doozy of a fight.
Amy-“Please, Jim. It’s personal.”
Jim- “Personal? You think this isn’t gonna get out? It’ll be on the coconut telegraph by breakfast.”
Amy admits the fight was about Paul. Amy just happens to go into labor.

3 Years Earlier.

Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and Miles come upon a distraught Dan, crying and mumblingI won’t tell her…don’t even tell her.”
Sawyer whispers to Juliet, “Where’s Red?”
Dan, still mumbling, “No. I won’t do it... I won’t...I won’ tell her.
Juliet asks him if he’s okay.
Dan, crying, tells her, “I’m not gonna do it. I’m not gonna tell her.
Dan looks like he’s somewhere else.  Juliet asks him where Charlotte is.
Dan-“She’s not here. Sh, She’s gone.”
He explains to Juliet she was dead, there was another Flash and then she was gone… ”her body just…disappeared. She moved on and we stayed.”
Sawyer questions Dan, “We stayed? We’re not traveling through time anymore?  You sayin its over?”
Dan replies to him as if he asked a ridiculous question, “Of course its over. Wherever we are now, Whenever we are now, We’re here for good.
Juliet kind nods her head.
Dan repeats again, “I won’t do it. I won’t. I’m, I’m not gonna…
Sawyer tells Juliet, “OK. Swell. Until Dan checks back in I say he head back to the beach. When Locke gets back with everybody that’s where they’ll be looking for us.”
Miles thinks the beach is a stupid idea, “What? You didn’t get enough flaming arrows shot at you? And your camp is gone. Why bother?”
Juliet smirks and tells Miles Sawyer’s right, they should go back to the beach, “We survived there before, we can do it again.”
Annoyed Miles remarks about “maybe” Sawyer wanting to go to the Orchid again after getting to the beach, then when that gets boring they can head back to the beach again, “It’s the only two plans you people have.”
Sawyer tells him to “Zip it.” He’s heading back to the beach. If their stuff’s there great, if not they’ll build new stuff, “You don’t like the plan, Good luck.”
Miles asks Juliet, “Who put him in charge?

Miles plays with a stick. Jin gives an interesting look at Dan. Sawyer thanks Juliet for getting his back with the whole beach issue. She says he should thank her, it was a stupid idea. {WTF?!} Bur she feels any plan is better than no plan.
Beside if she hadn’t agreed with him they’d still be arguing about where to go next, “I just hope you figure out something better before we get there.”
Sawyer’s open to suggestions.  He doesn’t see the smile on her face.  All of a sudden two shots ring out!  Sawyer and Juliet aim their rifles. The very faintly they hear voices/cries. They see a woman crying, begging the two men not to hurt him, “No. Please. We didn’t know! We’re sorry we didn’t mean/need anything.”   They were just touring the park.   A man lies on the ground in a Dharma jumpsuit; its Paul.   It looks like one man picks up a gun from near Paul on the ground. They put a bag over her head.
Juliet asks Sawyer who he thinks they are.
Miles doesn’t care who they are; they don’t even know “when” they are.
Miles turns to Dan, who is sitting quiet and distant, “Hey, Dan, we don’t’ get involved, right? That’s what you said.”     {When did he say that?}
Dan, speaking normal, tells him it doesn’t matter what they do, whatever happened, happened.
Sawyer- “Thanks anyway, Plato.”
Sawyer’s going over there; he makes sure Juliet still has his back.
Sawyer goes in.
The bagged woman is begging for Paul to talk to her.   There is a picnic set up.
Juliet shoots the short haired guy. Sawyer shoots the long haired guy. {Note the colorful flowers around the immediate area.}
Juliet and Sawyer take the guns from the ground. Sawyer removes the bag from the woman’s head and tells her it’s all right. “It’s Okay. You’re safe. It’s over.”
She’s asks who he is. {Watch the three of them from when the bag gets pulled off.}

Amy cries over Paul’s body {She’s sitting very weird.}
Dan watches her.  Juliet touches {searches} the body of one of men shooters and comments that Amy’s “friend’s wearing a Dharma jumpsuit. That puts us in the 70’s, 80’s.”
Sawyer asks her if the guys with the bags, “Others?
Juliet- “Beats me.”
Sawyer- “What? Ya’ll don’t know each other?”
Juliet- “Before my time.”
Jin tosses Sawyer a walkie that from one of the shooters.  Juliet looks very annoyed and says they need to go. There’s static on the walkie.    Sawyer tells Sweetheart Amy they need to get moving now.
She asks, “Who are you people?”
Sawyer tells her their ship wrecked on the way to Tahiti, but that ain’t important right now. He’s concerned that whoever is on the other side of the walkie might have given them a call before they saved her.   {These "Hostiles" have walkies?!}
Amy tells him they have to bury the bodies.  They ain’t got time to bury nobody!   Amy insists they bury the bodies, “The truce...”   She is very upset and crying. She also wants to bring Paul’s body home.    Amy begs, so Jin offers to carry him.
Sawyer okay’s the “putting these guys in the ground and carry your friend back.”
But they better do it fast. Amy admits “he” wasn’t her friend, “he” was her husband. {How did they bury two bodies fast without shovels? I’m just asking!}

Amy leads the way to Dharma village.
Jin carries Paul
.
Sawyer tells the group when they get there there will be a lot of questions. He wants to do all the talking. {Just like Jack did with the Oceanic 6.}
Miles sarcastically questions if Sawyer can really convince them they were in a boat wreck.
Sawyer-“I’m a professional. I used to lie for a living.”  {Look how far he’s come.}
Juliet screams for Dan to “STOP!”
They arrive at the pylons.  Juliet tells Amy to turn it off.
Amy plays stupid, “Turn what off?”
Juliet- “Whatever it is. It looks like some sort of sonic fence or something.”
Concerned Amy- “Where did you say your ship was going?”
Sawyer’s not taking that crap from her, “Listen sister, we’re the ones who just saved your life and hid those bodies. So how bout you trust us and turn that damn thing off?
Amy enters a code on the keypad; she also takes something out from behind the keypad panel that lifts up. {Hiding place.}
Sawyer whispers to Juliet, “Sonic fence? Didn’t I say I’d do all the talking?”
Juliet- “One more step and Dan would have fried his brain.”
Sawyer-“His brain’s already fried.” {It sure is!!}
Amy tells them it’s off. Sawyer wants her to go through it first and she does. You can hear a high pitch buzz when she walks through. She’s fine.
Sawyer’s pleased, “...going forward, we should all do a better job of trusting...” The high pitch buzz of the fence takes them all down. They convulse on the ground.
The buzz only lasts a few seconds. Amy reveals she had earplugs in to protect her from the buzz.

3 Years Later.

Amy’s in labor; she screams in pain.
The doctor asks LaFleur if her husband knows she’s in labor. He’s unavailable. The doctor’s concerned because the baby’s breech, that means upside down. She needs a Caesarian. Sawyer doesn’t want to be told about it, instructs the Dr. to just do it. Unfortunately this Doctor is an internist not an obstetrician.
The Dr. informs La Fleur “Our women always deliver on the mainland. {Oh really?!} The sub was supposed to be here on Tuesday. The baby’s two weeks early.”
La Fleur asks the Dr. if he can deliver this baby or not. The doctor doesn’t know.

LaFleur heads down to the Dharma "motor pool” to retrieve Juliet. She is hard at work underneath a VW Van/Bus. Juliet, from below, asks LaFleur “What’s up?”
He whispers to her Amy is having her baby and she’s in trouble. LaFleur pulls her up so they can talk. He tells her the Doc said Amy needs a caesarian and he never “done one”.
LaFleur guesses Juliet has. Upset Juliet wants to stick with their agreement. After all, every time she tries to help a woman on “this” island give birth, it hasn’t worked. {Maybe she’s a better mechanic.”}
He suggests that maybe what ever made that happen hasn’t happened yet. She’s gotta try and help her, “You’re the only one that can.”
Angrily, Juliet concedes.

Juliet feels Amy’s belly, questions the Dr., “The baby’s breech?” {She can’t tell? Lol} She then asks, “Did you try an external cephalic version?"
No he didn’t; it’s probably too late. Juliet runs down a list of supplies she’s going to need. {No one asks how a mechanic knows these terms or knows how to deliver a baby?}
Dr.-“You’re gonna need? Where’s Horace?”
Sawyer speaks on Horace’s behalf; Juliet’s delivering this baby.
The Dr. doesn’t think it’s a good idea, but Amy wants her to do it. Sawyer gives Juliet a pep talk, telling her she’ll do great.
Juliet gets into Dr. mode, tells Amy to “Shhhh”, puts on her stethoscope for a listen.

Sawyer paces like a daddy in waiting outside the infirmary. A woman exits door 6.
Jin, in perfect English asks La Fleur if everything’s okay. He knows Amy’s in labor.
LaFleur fills him in on there being a problem. Jin/Security is concerned Juliet is in there. LaFleur pulled her out of retirement. {Literally}
He asks Jin, “Any luck?”
Jin tells him they finished grid 1 3 3 today, “No sign of our people. No one.”
Well, it’s on to 1 3 4 then.
Jin- ”How long do we look, James?”
James-“As long as it takes.”
Emotional Juliet comes out, dressed in white scrubs, announcing, “It’s a boy.”
Everyone’s okay!
James is happy and proud.

Sawyer wakes up on the couch in the game room.
{NOTE! We did not get any “3 years earlier” notice here!}
Horace asks, “How’s your head?
It hurts.
Sawyer-“Where are my people?”
Horace tells him they’re fine. Amy told him what happened in the jungle and he appreciates what he did. He also explains they have a certain defense protocol. “There are hostile indigenous people on this island and we don’t get along with them. So why don’t you tell me who the hell you are.”
Sawyer- “My name's James La Fleur.”
Horace can call him Jim. Horace asks Jim how he got to the island.
James- “If my friends are safe, why are you asking me all the questions?”
Horace says his friends said he needed to talk to him, “That you’re the boat captain.”
Jim says they got caught in a storm, “our ship wrecked. Must have hit the reef. Thankfully we washed up on shore.”
Jim takes a glass of milk. Horace asks him what kind of ship.
Jim-“A salvage vessel searching for a famous lost wreck. It’s an old slaver out of Portsmouth, England called the Black Rock. Ever heard of her?”
Horace can’t say that he has. “So, once you got washed up on shore, why were you then wandering around in the jungle.
Jim explains they were looking for some missing crew and stumbled upon his girl instead. Horace tells him if his crew shows up, “we’ll send them along with ya.”
Horace reveals there’s a submarine that leaves “this” island first thing in the morning. Jim and his friends are gonna get on it, it will drop them off in Tahiti. “You can find your way home from there.”
Jim- “Hold on a minute Chief. We just saved that woman’s life, doesn’t that earn us a week or two to find the rest of our people?”
Nope.
Horace tells Jim the only people who are allowed to stay on this compound are members of The Dharma Initiative. He doesn’t want Jim to take this the wrong way but “You are not Dharma material.”
Red haired Horace walks away.

Warm night; the residents of Dharma village go about their business.
Sitting around a table are Miles, Jin, Dan and Juliet.
Miles comments, “We’re screwed. He’s probably trying to explain time travel by now.”    Juliet feels Sawyer will be fine. Miles asks what she’s looking at. Juliet tells them she lived there for over three years, “That was my house over there.” {Glasses of milk on the table}
Miles- “You were in the Dharma Initiative?”
No. The Other's took over the barracks and wiped out most of the people living in them. “They brought me here on a sub a long time after that.”
Miles- Well. Welcome home.”
Jin asks Daniel, “No more Flash?”
Dan, sadly, “No. No more Flash. The record is spinning again. We’re just not on the song we want to be on.
A little red haired girl, “Where’s dad?” {Woman with her has a British accent} She waves.
Dan whispers, happily, “Charlotte.”

Horace tells the foursome somebody will be along shortly to show them to their rooms. In the meantime Mr. La Fleur will fill them in on the situation.
Sawyer tells Miles, LaFleur is Creole; he improvised. {lol! Improvised on the script.}
Sawyer tells him Horace believed his story but, they are getting punted. “The bastard’s putting us on the sub tomorrow and shipping us off to Tahiti.”
Miles doesn’t see that as bad news. A loud alarm sounds and floodlights go on. The residents scramble to get inside for safety.
Phil/Security tells them to get inside, “Move!”
He moves them to a house where Heather, with a gun, can keep an eye on them. They all look out windows to see the action. There is Richard with his torch. Juliet closes her eyes when she sees Richard.
Sawyer- “Uh oh!”

Richard stands outside waiting for Horace. They say hello’s using formal names.
Horace-“I wish you would have told me you were coming, I would have turned the fence off for you.”
Richard-“That fence may keep other things out, but not us. The only thing that does keep us out is our truce. Which you have now broken.”
Horace plays stupid and says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Richard-“Where are my two men?”
From the window, Miles can see the men’s conversation getting heated. He thinks getting on the sub is starting to sound like a great idea. “What do you say? Sub. Anyone?”
Sawyer tells Bonsai to hold his horses. No one’s getting on a sub.
Horace storms in asks La Fleur “How well did you bury those bodies?”
Jim-“That depends on how hard he looks.”
Horace tells Phil to call The Arrow, tell them we’re at condition 1. “Take the heavy ordnance and make sure the fence is at maximum.”
Jim wants to talk to Horace’s buddy out there with the eyeliner.
Horace informs him they had a truce with these people.
Jim understands, “I’m the one who killed his men. And I’m the one who’s gonna go out there and tell them why I did it.”
Horace can’t let him do that. Well, Jim aint asking permission.
Juliet stops him at the door, “James. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
Not yet, but he’ll figure something out.

Richard sits waiting on the park bench.“Hello, Richard.”
Scruffy Richard asks if they know each other.
James- “I’m the guy that killed your men.”
He goes on to tell Richard those events. How one of the men took a shot at him, he defended himself. That’s so.
Richard-“You’re people know that you’re telling me this?”
James-“Aint my people, Hoss. So if you’ve got some kind of a truce with them, it aint been broken.”
Richard asks if he’s not a member of the Dharma Initiative then, “what are you?”
Sawyer sits next to Richard, asks if he buried the hydrogen bomb with Jughead written on the side. “Did you bury it?”
Yep, Sawyer knows about it. He also knows that “20 years ago some bald fella limped into your camp and fed you some mumbo jumbo about being your leader. And then poof, he went and disappeared right in front of ya. Any of this ringing a bell?...That man’s name is John Locke.  And I’m waiting for him to come back.”
Richard looks as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing.
Sawyer- “So, do you still think I’m a member of the damn Dharma Initiative?
Richard-“No. I guess I don’t. But no matter who you are, two of my men are dead, and my people need some kind of justice. What are we gonna do about that?”

Paul, still in his Dharma jumpsuit, lies on the bed.   Amy watches over him. Horace comes in with LaFleur, asks how she’s doing.    She asks if Alpert’s gone.  Horace tells her no, he’s not gone.    He tells Amy they told Richard where the bodies were; they had to. It was the only way to maintain the truce. Jim worked it out with him, but he wants something from them in return. “He needs to take Paul’s body back with him.”
She cries.
Horace shares with her they’ve been friends a long time, this is completely her choice. “If you don’t wanna give him to them, then we will suffer the consequences.”
Amy- “They can take him. He would wanna keep us safe.”
She asks for a minute. She cries, and takes the Ankh on the dark cord from his neck and puts it to her lips. She walks by LaFleur; he says he’s sorry. James offers Horace help, but Horace got it.
Horace tells Jim the sub's leaving tomorrow, it returns in two weeks. Until then they can stay “and look for the rest of your crew.”
Jim thanks him.

Juliet sits on the dock where the sub is docked.
Sawyer- “Bought us 2 weeks.”    He tells her Horace said we could wait for the next sub, “With any luck, Locke will be back by then.”
Then what?
Juliet- "Locke said he was leaving to save us. The Flashes have stopped. They’re over. No more bloody noses. We’re already saved.” {huh?!} She tells him that sub behind him brought her there. She’s, “been trying to get off this island for more than 3 years, and now I’ve got my chance. I’m going to leave.”
He looks troubled, asks if she realizes it’s 1974. Whatever it is she thinks she’s going back to don’t exist yet. {WTF?}
Juliet- “It’s not a reason not to go.”
But what about him?!
James- “You’re really gonna leave me here with the Mad Scientist and Mr. 'I speak to dead people'? And Jin, who’s a hell of a nice guy, but not exactly the greatest conversationalist.”
He wants to know who’s gonna get his back. {Well, wasn’t that just fucking sweet?} He asks her for two weeks.
They both smile. All right, she’ll give him two weeks.

Three Years Later.

A Chess game is being played.
LaFleur picks a pretty flower; he even smells it!
There are flowers in a vase on a table set and ready for eats! Salad, tomato, Dharma wine. LaFleur enters the house, “Something smells good.” {What’s with all the vegetables? Vegetarians}
Juliet cooked.  He gives her the flower; after all, she was amazing today. They hug.
Juliet-“Thank you for believing in me.”
More kissing.
Juliet- “I love you.”
He loves her too. {OMFG!}

LaFleur, in glasses, reads a {blue} book {no title}, “Wake up, Boss.”
Horace wakes up.
LaFleur-“How’s your head?”
It hurts.
LaFleur got good news and bad news.
Horace wants the good news first.
He’s a daddy. The bad news is he missed it.
LaFleur smiles proudly, “It’s a boy.”
He asks Horace why he was busy drinking and blowing up trees to see him be born.
Horace shares he was looking for a pair of socks, {Red socks?!} all of his were dirty so he grabbed a pair of Amy’s.  He found Paul’s Ankh in the back of the drawer.
Jim is surprised he got upset over a necklace.   Horace also shares that it’s only been three years since Paul’s gone, “Is that really long enough to get over someone?”
It is LaFleur’s turn to share. He had a thing for a girl once. Although he had a shot at her, he didn’t take it. While he laid in bed every night, he wondered if that was a mistake, “Wonder if I’d ever stop thinking about her.” Now he can barely remember what she looks like. “And her face...She’s just, gone. And she aint never coming back.”
He feels three years is long enough to get over someone. {Never say never!}

Juliet and James sleep. The phone rings, waking them. {Juliet naked. Sawyer NOT!} James answers the 'bat phone'. {lol!}
He tells the caller “No. Don’t bring em in. Just meet me in the North Valley.”
James hurries to put on his Dharma jumpsuit and glasses.
He tells Juliet Jin called, everything’s okay, but he’s gotta go.

James drives a blue jeep to meet Jin.
Jin pulls up in the blue VW van.
Out steps Hurley and guitar case and Jack.
There is a sense of “happy to see each other”.
James removes his glasses and sees Kate. They make eye contact.

LaFleur is a GREAT episode!!
Let's go back to Mr. John Locke-Jeremy Bentham for a minute.   I’ve mentioned many times the sensation that he, along with the rest of them, are in a state of learning, growing, evolving, maybe to reach enlightenment.   I didn’t take Bentham/Locke’s death literally.    I feel this with a few of our other "Island" residents too.  Maybe it’s more of a spiritual ending and rebirth.   I could be wrong about it.  But again for me, metaphoric hints to things seem to be a major part of the experience.   I also keep the "game" element close, while still wondering about the "merged reality" being a possible way they are experiencing things. There totally seems to be a connection to machines and them being high.

And just for the record I want to state that there are "issues" addressed in the episode with LaFleur that for me really feel like they're pointing to Jack and Christian.

Things to Note…Questions to ask…
* EYES. Glasses.
* 1974-1977
* “When” are Locke and the people on the Hydra Island?
* The people we know who’ve done bad things end up working Dharma Security.
* Egypt. Greek. Roman.
* Languages. Communication.
* Ankh- Life. Eternal life. Breath of life
* Pregnancy. Birth. Breeding. Create. Death.
* Remember. Forget. Head. Mind.
* Change identities. Integrate. Role changes.
* Disappear.  Appear.
* Mad scientist. Plato.
* The "Hostiles" broke the truce? Richard’s people have guns and walkies.
* Amy doesn't wear a Dharma jumpsuit, ever.
* Horace doesn’t drink, but is drunk.
* Horace was with Olivia the teacher when Ben was born.  She was Ben’s teacher.  How is she “associated” with Horace?
* Should young Ben be there yet?
* Turn it off.  A machine  that "looks like" (here it's the security fence).  Turn on-turn off.
* Gone-not gone.   Dead-Alive.
* Is "moving on" the same as "passing away?"   Or just removed from the playing field? Or just moving forward?
* The 70’s had some friggin ugly décor!
* Why didn’t Juliet or any of the other Lostie’s choose to leave on the sub? Ever.
* The head case, uh, I mean Dan- Emotional, like he was when we first met him.

* UPSIDE DOWN!
* Here in the 70’s Sawyer wears glasses to see far and read. On the beach in 2004 he needs glasses only to read.   Hmm...the "Island" and healing...vision...eyes...
* The little girl waving to Daniel in 1974 should not be Charlotte.  Ben told us she was born in 1979. So how could this be?   Could Dan’s personal sense of time be skewed due to some sort of altered-mental state he may be in? Come on! He’s a friggin head case!
* Who is James... Really?

The term Creole comes from French Creole, from Spanish criollo, and from Portuguese crioulo, stemming from the verb criar ('to breed') from the Portuguese, or creare from Latin ('to produce, create'). The term was coined in the 16th century during the great expansion in European maritime power and trade and the establishment of European colonies in the Americas, Africa, and along the coast of South and Southeast Asia up to the Philippines, Indonesia, China, India, and in Oceania.
* Candida is a genus of yeasts.
* Tony Orlando and Dawn released the song Candida in 1970. Here's some lyrics.
The stars won't come out, If they know that you're about.Cause they couldn't match the glow of your eyes
And, oh, who am I? Just an ordinary guy, Trying hard to win me first prize
Oh my Candida, We could make it together,
The further from here girl the better
Where the air is fresh and clean
Oh my Candida, Just take my hand and I'll lead ya
I promise that life will be sweeter
'Cause it said so in my dreams.

* In 5th century BC Greece, Antiphon the Sophist, in a fragment preserved from his chief work On Truth held that: "Time is not a reality (hypostasis), but a concept (noêma) or a measure (metron)."

* Arrow of time, or time’s arrow, is a term coined in 1927 by British astronomer Arthur Eddington used to distinguish a direction of time on a four-dimensional relativistic map of the world.

* Altered States of Consciousness is sometimes characterized by a different estimation of time. Some psychoactive substances – such as entheogens – may also dramatically alter a person's temporal judgment. When viewed under the influence of such substances as LSD, psychedelic mushrooms and peyote, a clock may appear to be a strange reference point and a useless tool for measuring the passage of events, as it does not correlate with the user's experience. At higher doses, time may appear to slow down, stop, speed up, go backwards and even seem out of sequence. As the boundaries for experiencing time are removed, so is its relevance. Many users claim this unbounded timelessness feels like a glimpse into spiritual infinity. To imagine that one exists somewhere "outside" of time is one of the hallmark experiences of a psychedelic voyage. Marijuana, a milder psychedelic, may also distort the perception of time to a lesser degree.

The practice of meditation, central to all Buddhist traditions, takes as its goal the reflection of the mind back upon itself, thus altering the subjective experience of time; the so called, 'entering the now'.

* Clouding of consciousness is a global impairment in higher central nervous functioning. All aspects of cognitive functioning are affected. On mental status examination it is manifest by disorientation in time, place and person, memory difficulties caused by failure to register and recall, aphasia, dysphasia and agnosia.  Impaired perception functioning leads to illusions and hallucinations often in the visual sensory modality. This then causes agitation and distress and secondary delusions.

* Perception of time. Even in the presence of timepieces, different individuals may judge an identical length of time to be passing at different rate.

* Ego death is an experience that reveals the illusory aspect of the ego, sometimes undergone by Psychonauts, Mysticism, Shamans, Monks, Psychologists, and others interested in exploring the depths of the mind. The practice of ego death as a deliberately sought “mystical experience“ in some ways overlaps, but is nevertheless distinct from, traditional teachings concerning enlightenment/Nirvana (In Buddhism) or “Mosksha” (in Hinduism), which might perhaps be better understood as transcendence of the notion that one even has any actual, non-illusory “ego“ with which to experience "death" in the first place.
It should also be noted, within the context of this system, that ego death is not actual death itself, but rather a temporary state of mind, which can be stabilized and revertedThis can be done either by thought-source control for any who have achieved the state, as well as by de-intoxication for those who have reached the state using psychedelics.

The LaFleur episode seems to have hinted in a clearer way how "time" could be an "emotional issue" not a "time travel" issue, per say.   It is true; emotions play a part in "time" for everyone.  Believe me I have not counted out the possibility of adult Ben knowing everything about the crash and people of Oceanic, because of a "possible" “time travel” thingy going on.   If he was a kid when LaFleur and Juliet were there in the 70’s that would mean he would know Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke and everyone else in 2004.  But he would know James as LaFleur, not Ford or Sawyer. Hmmmm.
But if we’re seeing more about them running through "mind" exercises/journey, a game, then they all just may be nothing more than case studies.  Or who knows, maybe they even paid for this experience.
Why, oh why do I still feel we’re seeing issues regarding perception and altered states of consciousness. Again, I’m not trying to convince you that “all” of what we see is “Not Real”, but too many times I feel as if things are not real and are happening while in an altered state of consciousness.  We still see evidence of things possibly happening while they are in a sleep state.    We also see hints to hypnosis, brain washing, coercive persuasion, illusions, hallucinations, lucid dreams, drugs, sleep deprivation, mediation, and all the other Mind Fucks we see.  But it does all serve a purpose...so that there is learning and an awakening.

At this point all I can suggest is to go get yourself a wind up clock, listen to it tick.
Close your eyes and relax. Take a deep breath, and exhale slowly.
Concentrate on your breathing. Feel yourself breathe. With each breath you become more relaxed.
Imagine a brilliant bright light above you. Focus in on this light as it flows through your body. Allow yourself to relax and drift off you fall deeper and deeper into a more relaxed state of mind.
As I count back from 10 to 1 you will feel calm and at peace.
10 9 8 7 6... You will enter a safe place where nothing can hurt you... 5 4 3 2... If at any time you need to come back, all you have to do is open your eyes. 1.

Now, sleep, dream, recall a memory or imagine a new future with the new you.  Your mind can take you to some amazing places.
Oh, one more thought before I leave you…
Let's see…Christian speaks on Jacobs behalf…Sawyer speaks on Horace’s behalf…Horace builds the cabin for himself and the Mrs.…Hmmmmm.

Love to all who are “LOST”™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.
