Recon

Let's talk about LOST!   Recon.
Sawyer {Purple shirt} is making a pot of tea outside Claire's nest. He burns his left hand on the hot pot.
Inside Jin sleeps. Sawyer wakes up his buddy Jin. Jin is curious how long he's been out.
Sawyer- "A while. Figured you could use a rest."
Claire and Locke are out and about and said they'd be back by sun up.  Jin is worked up and says they have to leave before they get back. Sawyer informs him that he's with Locke and Jin informs him "That's not Locke."
Sawyer is aware of that but will go with "Whoever he is" because he says he can get them off "this damn island".
Jin can't leave because Sun could be here somewhere. Sawyer gives him is word that they won't leave without her.
They hear sounds and Sawyer realizes "They're back."
Jin uses his oar as a crutch. Locke returns with his flock and Sayid, Claire and Kate.

Sawyer and Kate share a moment of hello. Sawyer seems troubled. {But there's some weird eye contact made between our Losties}
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Sawyer is in bed with Ava, who feels Jimmy is unbelievable. {She has red/auburn hair}
She reminds him he was supposed to meet "that guy" at nine and it's 8:42.  Sawyer rushes and grabs a briefcase that the lock breaks open and cash pours out of it.
Sawyer-"You weren't exactly supposed to see that."
Ava asks what Jimmy is doing with all that money. He explains it's for a potential investment. "We're going fifty-fifty. The guy wants to see the money up front. Don't worry it won't take long. I'll be right back. Me and you'll go for a round..."
Ava pulls a gun on Sawyer and tells him to step away from the case.
Ava-"Here's the thing, dimples. I can spot a con man. I'm married to one. So I know all about the pigeon drop. Oh what, that case just accidentally flew open? How stupid do you think I am."
Sawyer-"Pretty damn stupid actually."
Ava-"Excuse me?"
Sawyer-"This is a setup, lady. There's a van sitting right outside, the room is bugged, place is surrounded by cops. So now you wanna put that gun down and we'll work something out. They don't care about you, they want your husband. There's a tracer in the case, all you have to do is take it back to wherever your hubby's hiding out."
Ava-"You really expect me to believe that you're here with the police?   This place is surrounded? How come no-one came to save you?"
Sawyer doesn't need saving. He wants her to do the right thing and put the gun down but if she doesn't, all he has to do is say the magic word, and that door busts open.
Ava claims he's a lousy con man.
Sawyer says one word..."LaFleur."
Ava-"La what?"
The police kick in the door and save the day! {And/or Sawyer} Ava drops the gun and she's cuffed. In walks Jimmy's partner Miles.
Miles mentions Jim was cutting it a little close. Jim feels that's the only way to cut it.
Miles tosses him a police badge. Ava is surprised to see Jimmy is a cop.
Sawyer-"Surprise."
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Claire is packing a bag; takes a knife, and tends to her "rat" baby hidden behind a light net. Kate comes in and asks, "Is this where you lived?"
Indeed it is.
Kate sees the "rat" baby, seems disgusted and wonders, "What is that?"
Claire gives her a dirty look and claims it's all she had.

Locke-"All right everybody listen up. Come on in, gather round. I know that everyone is tired. It was a...long and traumatic night for all of us.  And you all have got a lot of questions, I know. And I will make myself available to answer them.  But right now we need to keep moving. We have to take advantage of the daylight."
Cindy speaks, "We want to know what happened to the people who stayed behind at the Temple.
Locke- "The black smoke killed them. {He sees Zack, hugging his teddy bear and Emma is upset and tells them-} Hey, I know that what happened back there was really scary. But it's over. You're with me now, and I promise that I'm gonna take care of you. Okay?"
{Claire took hold of Kate's hand during the speech, as if she was a little child who needed to hold on to mommy for a second and then she lets go, smiles and walks off.}
Locke-"All right, let's move out!"
Kate is puzzled by Claire's behavior.
Sawyer walks up to Kate, "Looks like you had a hell of a night."
She did.
Sawyer inquires about Jack, Hurley, and the rest of them, "They make it out of the temple all right?"
Kate saw them leaving on the way back.
Sawyer-"What about Miles?"
Kate-"I don't know what happened to him. So you're with Locke now?"
Sawyer looks her in the eye and says he ain't with anybody.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
James is on phone "Hello, is this Anthony Cooper?  Hi Mr. Cooper, this is Detective James Ford, L.A.P.D. Yeah we've discovered some unclaimed property that might belong to you. Can you verify you were in Alabama in 1976? Ah huh. OK, thanks. Sorry to have taken up your time." {Files, file boxes. Confidential Informants. Cold Cases}
He crosses a name off a list and calls the next number. "May I speak with Anthony Cooper?"
Nosy Miles walks over with two mugs of coffee.{A Hollywood mug for Jim} Jim hurries off the phone, telling the person on the other end he'll have to call them back.
Miles asks who Anthony Cooper is. Jim fluffs it off as an old buddy he ran into, who said he could hook him up with some Laker tickets.
Miles-"That's cool. What'd you... you see him in Palm Springs?"
Confused Jim asks, "What?"
Miles-"Palm Springs. Your trip last weekend?"
Jim-"Yeah, it's a blur. Too much sunshine, too many Mai Tai's."
Miles tells him to get it together because you got a date tonight.   Miles set him up with a friend of his who works with his dad at the museum. He thinks she's great.
Uninterested Jim wonders if she's so great why doesn't Miles go out with her. Apparently Miles has a girlfriend.
Miles asks,"What is your deal Jim, you wanna die alone?"
Jim-"All right, look. I go out with her, you gonna leave me alone?"
Miles-"Throw in one of those Laker tickets, Hell yes I will."
Jim-"Look I'm already pulling strings with this guy. It's just...uh I dunno if I can get another seat."
Miles-"You know you can tell me the truth, about anything. Are you lying to me,man?"
James-"Why the hell would I lie?"
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Locke leads Zack, Emma and the rest of the group through the jungle. He tells them a quarter mile ahead there's a clearing; that's where they'll make camp.  He also wants them to fill up on water because they might be there a couple of days.
Annoyed Sawyer doesn't like the "couple of days" remark. "I thought you said we were gettin off this rock."
Locke says they are, but Sawyer wants to know when. Locke, making sure to not concern the flock, suggests they talk about it in private.

Once in "private" in the jungle, Locke, who now seems a bit "off, points his finger at Sawyer and says, "I wish you hadn't interrupted me.
Sarcastic Sawyer apologizes, having forgotten his manners.
Locke sighs-"I forgive ya."
Sawyer asks how Locke how he knew to rescue everybody back at the temple from the smoke thing.
Locke confesses he didn't rescue them. "I'm the smoke thing."  There is silence for a few seconds.
Sawyer-"You tellin me you killed all those people?"
Locke-"I gave them the opportunity to leave peacefully and they didn't take it."
Sawyer-"Why not?"
Locke-"Because they're convinced that they're protecting the island from me when in fact all I wanna do leave. So it's either kill or be killed. And I don't wanna be killed."
Locke leads him to the shore.
James asks Locke if he's going on a boat ride.
Locke-"You are."
James-"Where?"
Locke-"Hydra Island."
You can see that James doesn't really want to go there. {Gives an 'Oh No' type look}
He asks Locke what's on Hydra Island.
Locke-"The plane. The Ajira flight. The same plane that brought your friends back. Unfortunately they didn't come alone. And I have reason to believe that some of the other passengers mean to do us all harm. So I want you to go over there do some recon."
James feels this sounds real safe.  But Locke's not worried about Sawyer and feels he will be fine.  Because Locke feels James is  the best liar I he ever met.
Locke instructs, "You tell them whatever you need to tell them to gain their trust... find out everything you can about them... and then get back here."
James-"Why exactly am I doing this again?"
Locke-"Why do you think, James? We get on that plane, we fly off this island, and we never look back. Come on."    They push the outrigger into the water.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}

James arrives is at the restaurant and looks around for his date. He makes a call to refresh his memory on what the girl looks like (again).   James is reminded she is a redhead, "How many redheads do you see?"
James scans the room and sees a redhead sitting at the bar.
Sawyer-"Roger that."
James is told to be nice to her.  He hangs up the call and asks the redhead, "Would you be Charlotte?"
In his chivalrous Southern charm he says it's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am.  They are sitting at a table and drinking wine.   James inquires about her being an Archaeologist.
Charlotte-"What's wrong with archeology?"
James-"Nothin'. I just figured you'd be stuck in a room somewhere dustin' off antiques."
Charlotte-"No, I actually get to travel quite a bit... To far off and romantic places..."
She claims to be exactly like Indiana Jones.  {Uh, is she a man?!}
Sawyer-"You got a whip?"
Charlotte-"Maybe..."  They laugh.
Charlotte asks why he became a cop.
James-"You ever seen Bullitt? The Steve McQueen flick?"
She hasn't seen it so he won't bore her with an explanation.
Charlotte wants a favor, "...don't treat me like all the other girls that ask you. Tell me the truth."    James sighs. "Well... I guess I... got to a point in my life where I was either going to become a criminal or a cop. So I chose cop."
Charlotte stares smiles looks into his eyes
James-"What?"
Charlotte-"You know what."

They are in James' bed! Charlotte claims it wasn't bad considering they didn't have that whip.
James-"Bring it next time."   He offers her some water. While he gets up for the water she asks to borrow a t-shirt.  James tells her to help herself; top drawer on the right. With James out of the room Charlotte rummages through the drawer,{yet it doesn't seem like she's looking for a shirt. Hmmmm} and finds a blue binder titled SAWYER. It contains photos, negatives, details and a newspaper clip of James' parents' death.
James walks in on her and freaks out! "What did you see?"
Charlotte-"Nothing. Just this, you know, that picture fell out and I was just trying to put it back..."
She insists she didn't see anything. James-"Get the hell out."
Charlotte-"James, just let me explain!"
James-"Get out!"  Charlotte gathers her things and leaves.

At the Hydra station James looks at the cages he and Kate were held and is moved with memory. He  holds the dress.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Kate asks Sayid, who doesn't look too well, if he believes Locke; if he can get them off the Island.
Sayid-"Yes, I believe him."
Kate-"Sayid, are you alright?"
Sayid-"No."
Claire attacks Kate to the ground and tries to stab her neck.   Sayid just sits there, unaffected by the cat fight even though Kate calls out for his help.
Locke literally pulls Claire off and tosses her to the side. {Like she was a little child or a doll}
Locke-"What are you doing?"
Claire is fired up, "She took him! She took Aaron!"
Locke-"Claire, you had disappeared! Kate couldn't find you! She did what she had to do!"
Claire-"She took Aaron! She can't just do this!"
Locke slaps Claire!   Kate and Claire are stunned.
He scolds her, "This is completely inappropriate. Alright? Now... you go over there. I'll deal with you in a minute. Go."
He asks Kate if she's alright.
Kate-"No, I'm not alright."
Locke walks over to talk with Claire.

On Hydra island, Sawyer finds the huge Ajira plane.
He uses his detective skills to assess a few things and follows a path that is really drag marks in the sand to grouping of dead bodies.   A woman {wearing glasses}comes running out of the jungle.  James yells for her to stop but ends up tackling and pointing a gun at her. "Don't move!"
The woman begs him to not hurt her.
Sawyer-"Who the hell are you?"
The woman-"I'm the only one left."
 {Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Liam is at the counter of the police station trying to get the officer behind it to help him, "Excuse me. Sir? I asked you about my brother..."
The officer told him to wait a minute.  James walks by and Liam immediately turns to him, "Hey! Uh... I'm looking for my brother.   He was arrested at the airport on a drug charge...."
James-"Sorry, not my department."

Miles meets up with Jim and wants him to go with  him.  Jim follows Sunshine/Miles to the locker room where Miles pushes Jim against them.  Angry Miles asks Jim if there's something he wants to tell him.
Jim-"What?!"
Miles-"Is there something you wanna tell me?!"
Jim-"Look, she opened the wrong drawer."
Miles-"What the hell are you talking about? I wanna know what you were doing in Australia when you told me you were in Palm Springs.   I ran your credit card.  I know you went to Sydney.   Oceanic, round trip. You took flight 815 back two days ago."
Jim wonders what the hell is he doin' runnin' his credit card. Miles knows he lied. He thought they were supposed to trust each other.  "So, Jim... what were you doing in Australia?"
Insulted Jim feels that's none of his damn business.
Now Miles is insulted. "You know what? You're right. Because I'm not your partner anymore."  Miles walks away and Jim punches the mirror his reflection is in.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Sawyer gives very thirsty Zoe water from his canteen.  He introduces himself.
Zoe- "I'm Zoe. I can't believe there's anybody left alive. I thought I knew everybody on the plane."
James admits he didn't come on this plane.  Curious Zoe asks what plane he came on.
Sawyer-"Long story. What the hell happened here?   What killed all those people?"
Zoe-"I... we... we crashed here. And we were all just waiting for someone to rescue us. I was out collecting wood when I heard... screaming."
Sawyer-"Screaming?"
Zoe-"When I came back... they were... they were all dead. I spent the last two days dragging their bodies up here. I didn't feel it was right to leave them out there in the sun. Are you alone?"
Sawyer-"No. There's a group of people back on the main island. I can take you back there."
Zoe-"Thank God."
Sawyer-"Trust me...God's got nothing to do with it."
Kate sits alone in the middle the trees... Locke (Note his two differnt eye colors) appears and apologizes to her.  "I have to take responsibility for Claire's behavior. I was the one who told her the Others had her baby."
Kate wonders why he would tell her that.
Locke-"Have you ever had an enemy?   Someone that you needed to hate?  Very powerful, isn't it? Claire was devastated without Aaron. She needed something to... something to keep her going.  So, I gave her something to hate. And then... when you told her the truth... all those feelings, all that anger that she'd been holding on to for so long... it had to go somewhere.
Kate-"Very insightful... coming from a dead man."
Locke-"Well, nobody's perfect. I'm sorry that this happened.  And I'm sure that, if you give her time, everything will be alright. I promised before that I would keep everyone safe. And that means you too, Kate."
Kate asks where  Sawyer went.  Locke smiles, holds out his hand to help her up and says, "I'll show you."
Kate doesn't take his hand and stands up on her own.

Sawyer and Zoe walk along the beach on Hydra Island. Sawyer asks her if she thinks that thing'll still fly.
Zoe doesn't know; it'll take a bit of work and someone who knows how, how to do it. "I... I take it you haven't come across the pilot?" Sawyer respectfully replies,"No ma'am."
Zoe-" How many people did you say were with you?"
Sawyer-"Couple dozen."
Zoe-"Did they all come on the same plane as you?"
Sawyer-"Some. Not all."
Zoe-"When did you crash?"
Sawyer-"A long time ago."
Zoe-"Do you all have guns?"   {Sawyer gets suspicious.}
Zoe feels  whoever killed all those people back there might come back. Sawyer admits they got plenty of guns.  They arrive at the outrigger and start to push it into the water.   Sawyer asks where she was headed. "Your flight. Where were you goin'?"
Zoe-"Oh. Uh... Guam."
Sawyer-"What's in Guam?"
Zoe-"My boyfriend."
Sawyer pulls his gun on Zoe and tells her, "You're good, sweetheart, but you ain't that good."   She wonders what he's talking about.
Sawyer-"Who are you?"
Zoe whistles {the magic whistle} and a few armed guys come out  of the jungle demanding Sawyer put his weapon down. "Drop it, now!"
Sawyer hands his gun to Zoe, "Is your name even Zoe?"
Zoe-"Is yours Sawyer?"
The armed men surround Sawyer and command him to his knees.
Sawyer nonchalantly says-"Alright, alright... you got me. Take me to your leader." {Aliens. Hmmm}

Locke sits {cross legged}on the beach and shows Kate, "That Island over there... that's where I sent Sawyer."
Kate-"You could have just told me that you sent him to the Island where we were locked in cages, you didn't have to bring me down here."
Locke-"Sure, but then I wouldn't have gotten to talk to you. You referred to me as a dead man. I am not a dead man. I know what you're feeling, Kate.   I know what you're going through."
Kate asks him how he knows that.   Locke shares a little story with her; getting a bit emotional during it.
"Because... my mother was crazy.   A long time ago, before I... looked like this {you mean old?!}... I had a mother, just like everyone. She was a very disturbed woman.    And, as a result of that, had some growing pains.  Problems that I'm still trying to work my way through.   Problems that could have been avoided had things been different.
Kate wonders why he's telling her this.
Locke-"Because now... Aaron... has a crazy mother too."

Prisoner Sawyer is escorted to the docked submarine.   He notes workers erecting a sonic fence.
Zoe commands Sawyer to get in because he's waiting for him.    Sawyer makes his way down the hatch.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
James arrives home {Apt 245. Very sparsely decorated and a very bachelor like environment. Left hand bandaged.} and prepares a frozen dinner-Country fried beef patties.    He sits down to watch an episode of "Little House on the Prairie".   He smiles while he watches.
Little Laura tells her father that she wouldn't know what she would do if anything ever happened to him and her mother.  Her father tells her, "Anyway nothing is gonna happen to us.  Not today, anyway.  It's the way you live this life. Each day one  at a time.  Now if you spend your whole life worrying about something that's gonna happen before you know it your life's over. You spend an awful lot of  it just worrying.  {children's laughter is heard} Hey you hear that?  That's what life's all about.  Laughing and loving each other. And  knowing that people aren't really gone when they die.  We have all the good memories to sustain us
 until you see them again."     Laura shares it's hard not being afraid and her Pa understands that.  This touches James.

James brings a peace offering to Charlotte's apartment.{Beer and a sunflower}
Charlotte opens the door, "You've got to be joking."     Jim asks if he can come in and she refuses him.
"You don't get to kick me out at three o'clock in the morning and then come around the next day with puppy dog eyes and a sad sunflower. Look, I don't know if you're just lonely, or guilty, or completely mad... but, you know what? I don't care. You blew it."
Charlotte closes the door and Sawyer, realizing he behaved wrong,  leaves the sunflower in front of the door and walks away.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Zoe leads Sawyer through the sub and curious Sawyer pulls at a double padlocked door. "What do you got in here?"
Zoe-"None of your business. Keep moving."
Zoe knocks on a door and Zoe announces, "He's here, sir."
Sawyer enters the room and Widmore asks Zoe "Would you leave us please?"   Of course she will.
Widmore offers his hand to Sawyer to shake,"Hello, Mr. Ford. My name is Charles Widmore."
Sawyer does not take his hand.
Widmore-"Do you know who I am?"
Sawyer-"Of course I do. You're the fella that sent a freighter to the Island loaded with guys to kill us all."
Widmore-"It's sad, really... how little you actually know."
Sawyer-"Well, I know you murdered all them people out there and dropped 'em in a ditch..."
Widmore-" We didn't murder those people. But I don't expect you to believe that."
Sawyer-"Good, I don't."
Widmore-" So, why don't you tell me what brought you over to this island."
Sawyer-"John Locke sent me."
Widmore-"John Locke's dead."
Sawyer-"I think we both know the guy I'm talking about's not really Locke. So here's the deal, Chief... I'll go back over there and tell him the coast's clear. That I didn't find anybody. Then I'll bring the old man right to your doorstep... then you can kill him."
In return James wants the people he comes back with; the people on his boat don't get touched. "Not even a hair on their head."     And Widmore will give them safe passage off the Island.
Widmore-"How do I know I can trust you"
Sawyer-"Same way I know I can trust you. So, do we have an agreement?"
They shake hands, sealing their accord.

Puzzled, sad and armed Kate is walking through the jungle. Claire appears and apologizes to her. Claire says she knows everything Kate did was because she cared about her and Aaron. "And thank you for taking care of him."    Claire hugs Kate and it takes Kate a few seconds to reciprocate the hug. Claire cries; Kate tells her it's okay.

James returns to the main Island.  Locke is there to find out how it went.  James realizes Locke didn't send him over there to find passengers from that plane and Locke confirms that.
James-" Well in case you're interested, they're all dead."
Locke-"Well that's terrible. What happened?"
James-"I don't know."
Locke-"Well what do you know, James?"
James- "I know there's a man over there on that island that ain't gonna let us get on that plane without a fight. Came over on a sub. Name's Widmore."
Locke-"Charles Widmore?"
James-"Well, I guess y'all know each other. He ain't alone. Counted at least six armed com padres with him, not to mention whatever crew's on that sub.    There's a locked room on there, something they're hiding. And they're setting up pylons, like the ones in New Otherton. You know, ones that keep out that smoke thing."
Locke-"Now what did you tell them about me?"
James-"I told 'em I'd tell you the coast was clear and bring you back with me...walk you right into their trap. That way they could kill you. Which means they'll be caught with their pants down when we change our plan of attack."
Locke-"I appreciate your loyalty, James."
James-" You said you were gonna get me off this Island. Deal's a deal."
Locke agrees.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Sawyer pulls up as Miles is leaving a building.   He waves and makes Miles get into the car.  James hands him  a blue binder labeled "Sawyer".
Miles asks "Who's Sawyer?"
James shares his story. "When I was nine years old my father shot my mother, then he killed himself. Sawyer was the reason why.  He was a grifter...con man.  I've been hunting him down since the day I left the academy.   I chased down a lead in Australia, got a name - Anthony Cooper.    I ran the name,  I got a list of Anthony Coopers and I've been calling them.     And when I find the right one...I'm gonna kill him"
James didn't tell Miles any of this because he knew he's try to talk him out of it.  Police sirens are heard and a blue car slams into James' car.
A hooded woman is on the run!   She runs down an  ally. James and the cops are after her.   James hides and cuts her off, throwing her against a gate.  He reveals her identity and seems pleased, "Son of a bitch."
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Distant Kate pokes a stick around in the campfire.   Sawyer asks her what's for dinner.
Kate-"Rabbit...I think."   Good, Sawyer's starving.
Kate asks what he's doing running errands for Locke.    Sawyer aint running errands for nobody.  Kate shares Locke sent him over to the other island, "Did you find the plane?"
Sawyer-"Yeah. That aint the only thing over there. Guy named Widmore set up camp on the beach. Got a whole team with him; guys with guns. There here for Locke."
Kate-"So what are you gonna do?"
Sawyer-"I'm gonna let them fight it out.  And while they got their hands full of each other...You and me are gettin the hell off this island."
Kate smiles-"Even if we could get on that plane whose gonna fly it?"
Sawyer-"We aint taking the plane, Freckles. We're taking the sub."

Re-Con is a GREAT episode.
This is a set up! Of course it is. Everything is set up!
The mad capers of Jim. A man of some power and/or authority using his position to go after the person responsible for his parents deaths and wanting to kill him. Sawyer plays one side against the other and will most likely get them all wrapped up in each other and that will leave him with the opportunity to go ahead and make his move; just like in The Long Con. It's interesting, even with Locke's confession about his being the "smoke thing" Sawyer isn't afraid or turned off by Locke's reveal because yet again...it's every man for himself.  Or is it one in the same?

With the bits about a case and cops being brought up again, I am brought back to my thoughts about the "Island residents" being in a "prison" or "asylum" and this magical adventure is part of their rehabilitation. Who knows, it may all be for fun too.  But for as many times as I come back to feeling like so many of the centrics come back to Locke and Jack, {we could be seeing the struggles of a single person} what if this potential rehabilitation is due to schizophrenia and/or split personality.  It's just a thought.

Out whiting the opponent to gain your edge. But I think all involved here {even if it's about a singular person}, although recruiting an army or support, still have their own agenda to the end game.

* Mini sonic fence...really?!
* "Well, well, it looks like Johnny Locke's got himself a nemesis." -Sawyer in The Long Con.
* Charlotte on the "Island" was in Cultural anthropology and apparently excels in linguistics. Here she is an Archaeologist.
* People aren't really gone when they die...you will see them again.
* What the heck is with getting to have sex with the wife of/or the perpetrator?!

Vocabulary and Research...
* A Wrinkle in Time: Children travel to Camazotz to rescue Meg's scientist father. IT is the bodiless telepathic brain that dominates the planet of Camazotz.   IT controls all the people and makes them do the same things together in mechanistic synchronization; as if they were robots.  IT speaks through The Man With Red Eyes and later through Charles Wallace; and is functionally part of the interstellar cloud of evil called the Black Thing.
* Bullitt is a 1968 movie based on the novel titled Mute Witness (1963) by Robert L. Fish (aka Robert L. Pike).  Famous for a car chase; faked his death.
* Lancelot-Lamar murders his wife. He ends up in a mental institution where he experiences a blurring of reality.
* Black bead bracelet:  James' bracelet caught my attention.  Does it have any relevance to the journey?  I don't know. Sawyer looks hot wearing it!    Bracelets/Power bead bracelets are sometimes used for spiritual and ritual purposes {Mala beads}, salvation, protection, healing, friendship and even sobriety type of recovery.
* Refresh your memory on these additional past episodes: The Long Con  and Confidence Man.

Something I can't ignore is James' comment to Zoe about God not having anything to do with this.   Is this a hint to a "human hand"  being directly involved in the "Island" experience and it not being rooted in supernatural or mythological causes?   Indeed it could.

There was much in this episode that connected directly to "John Locke".   Even  bits from Sawyer's story crossed over.   Here I saw a still angry and hurt Locke.  It is obvious he is still working things out from his hurtful past and things he may be holding on to.  I was concerned when I saw some of his deep pains surface and now wonder if Locke will break or will he come out of this whole.   His redhead mother was crazy and in Santa Rosa. Go back and check out Deus Ex Machina.
But we can't ignore that we learned in The Man From Tallahassee that John Locke was so depressed he was on "Disability".  Could John be he own worst enemy?

I still want to know what is the purpose of the "smoke thing" {it wasn't called a monster here} part of the person.   How, why and what makes it present itself in that form?

I felt as if Locke took on a strict parent role here.  He was tender to the children when he needed to be and then he was an intense disciplinarian to the children/people when he felt they needed it.  This kind of bothers me because we've not seen this layer of personality before.

The Lostie's are carrying pain from things that hurt them and shaped them from childhood.  They've grown up with the torment of those emotions and lack of faith in people. Are they trying to heal all of that childhood pain?
All they ever wanted is to be needed, cared for and loved.   They long for family.

Maybe deep down there's a part of "James" that knows as far as he and Kate are concerned they are connected.
Remember what he states in The Long Con... "You run. I con. Tiger don't change their stripes."

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good! Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance! It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

LaFleur.

Let's talk about LOST! LaFleur.

Sawyer turns his eyes away from the bright light coming up from the well. He’s still holding the rope that lowered John down into the well.
Miles tells Sawyer, “I think you can let go of that now.”
The rope is completely covered by earth.
Sawyer freaks out that John is down there and he wants to get John out.
Juliet- “James. Stop. We can’t help him. Wherever John went, he’s gone. And wherever we are is before that well was ever built.”
Miles-“Yeah. Way before.”
Jin in GREAT English asks Miles, “What make you?...”
They all see the backside of what appears to be an Egyptian statue looking out over the water. At the same time...

...John is calling out for James’ help from inside the well. John makes his way, limping to the “Stuckwheel.
He pulls it back.    Sawyer and the group start grabbing their heads, experiencing the bright light and hummm. FLASH...

The group is on the ground, having felt the effects of severe pain in their heads.
Juliet- “What the hell was that?”
This time the “bright light” experience was different, more like an earthquake.
Sawyer looks up to see the well has returned!  There are also other ruins around them.   He runs to jump into it to go after Locke but the well seems to have been closed up with rocks and earth.  They all discover their headaches are gone and their noses aren’t bleeding anymore.
Juliet thinks, “It’s over. I think John did it.”
Jin, in great English asks, “Now what?”
Sawyer- ”Now we wait for him to come back.”
For how long, you ask...
Bearded Sawyer-”As long as it takes.”

3 Years Later.

A Reel-to-Reel tape loaded up for play.  The song Candida plays. {The stars won’t come out, if they know that you’re around.}
Jerry/Dharma Security and Rosie dance to the tune. {Geronimo Jackson shirt/ red white and blue} They are in a security station with eight monitors.
Phil enters and asks the couple, “Are you kidding me? I’m gone 10 minutes and you’re having a hootenanny.”
Jerry tells him he should be thanking Rosie for dropping off some brownies. Phil tells Jerry she shouldn’t be there, “We’re on the clock, man.”
Jerry wants him to “Mellow out, man. What’s gonna happen… the polar bears are gonna figure a way out of their cages?”
Phil argues that’s not the point, if LaFleur finds out what he’s doing… Rosie sees something on a monitor.
Phil wonders, “Is that a hostile?”
Nope. It’s Horace. He’s at the pylons, drunk and playing with dynamite. He lights a stick and throws it beyond the pylons at a tree. Phil freaks and yells for Rosie to get out of there now!
Phil told Jerry “not to bring her here.”
The situation is bad. It’s three in the morning and they’ll have to wake up LaFleur. The guys reconsider that for a second, maybe they can handle it themselves, but…What if Horace blows himself up and LaFleur kills them for not waking him!
Phil- “We gotta go, NOW!”

They run through the dark to the Dharma Initiative village. Neither has the nerve to knock on the door to get LaFleur. Finally Phil knocks and the porch light goes on.   Phil apologizes for bothering Mr. LaFleur but they have a situation out at the pylons.  The door opens, they tell La Fleur that Horace has dynamite and he’s blowing up trees LaFleur, Head of Security is revealed to be Sawyer.

A horn honks; signaling Miles/Security he needs to hurry. Relax, he’s coming. He is also Dharma security.
Miles gets in the VW bus/van, says “Hi boss” to LaFleur {Wearing glasses.}
LaFleur-“Evening Enos. Got your zapper with ya?”
They’re gonna need it because “Our fearless leader is out blowing up trees.”    He’s doing that because he’s loaded.
Miles-“Since when does Horace drink?”
LaFleur tells him he doesn’t, “So we’re gonna keep this on the down low.”

A small fire burns, Miles and LaFleur come upon a sleeping/passed out Horace; still holding his bottle. Miles is instructed to put out that fire and pack up this dynamite, La Fleur will take him home. Miles wants to know why those chores can’t be the other way around.
La Fleur-“You wanna tell Amy where we found him?”
I guess not.
Miles helps him pick up Horace.

Three knocks on the door.  LaFleur carries Horace.   Pregnant Amy answers the door, “OMG. Is he OK?”
LaFleur-“You tell me.”
Amy tells him to put Horace on the couch. {Owl} She can smell his breath.
Amy- “Where’d you find him?”
She’s told, “by The Flame blowing up trees with dynamite.”
Apparently the reason for this behavior is because Horace and Amy had a doozy of a fight.
Amy-“Please, Jim. It’s personal.”
Jim- “Personal? You think this isn’t gonna get out? It’ll be on the coconut telegraph by breakfast.”
Amy admits the fight was about Paul. Amy just happens to go into labor.

3 Years Earlier.

Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and Miles come upon a distraught Dan, crying and mumblingI won’t tell her…don’t even tell her.”
Sawyer whispers to Juliet, “Where’s Red?”
Dan, still mumbling, “No. I won’t do it... I won’t...I won’ tell her.
Juliet asks him if he’s okay.
Dan, crying, tells her, “I’m not gonna do it. I’m not gonna tell her.
Dan looks like he’s somewhere else.  Juliet asks him where Charlotte is.
Dan-“She’s not here. Sh, She’s gone.”
He explains to Juliet she was dead, there was another Flash and then she was gone… ”her body just…disappeared. She moved on and we stayed.”
Sawyer questions Dan, “We stayed? We’re not traveling through time anymore?  You sayin its over?”
Dan replies to him as if he asked a ridiculous question, “Of course its over. Wherever we are now, Whenever we are now, We’re here for good.
Juliet kind nods her head.
Dan repeats again, “I won’t do it. I won’t. I’m, I’m not gonna…
Sawyer tells Juliet, “OK. Swell. Until Dan checks back in I say he head back to the beach. When Locke gets back with everybody that’s where they’ll be looking for us.”
Miles thinks the beach is a stupid idea, “What? You didn’t get enough flaming arrows shot at you? And your camp is gone. Why bother?”
Juliet smirks and tells Miles Sawyer’s right, they should go back to the beach, “We survived there before, we can do it again.”
Annoyed Miles remarks about “maybe” Sawyer wanting to go to the Orchid again after getting to the beach, then when that gets boring they can head back to the beach again, “It’s the only two plans you people have.”
Sawyer tells him to “Zip it.” He’s heading back to the beach. If their stuff’s there great, if not they’ll build new stuff, “You don’t like the plan, Good luck.”
Miles asks Juliet, “Who put him in charge?

Miles plays with a stick. Jin gives an interesting look at Dan. Sawyer thanks Juliet for getting his back with the whole beach issue. She says he should thank her, it was a stupid idea. {WTF?!} Bur she feels any plan is better than no plan.
Beside if she hadn’t agreed with him they’d still be arguing about where to go next, “I just hope you figure out something better before we get there.”
Sawyer’s open to suggestions.  He doesn’t see the smile on her face.  All of a sudden two shots ring out!  Sawyer and Juliet aim their rifles. The very faintly they hear voices/cries. They see a woman crying, begging the two men not to hurt him, “No. Please. We didn’t know! We’re sorry we didn’t mean/need anything.”   They were just touring the park.   A man lies on the ground in a Dharma jumpsuit; its Paul.   It looks like one man picks up a gun from near Paul on the ground. They put a bag over her head.
Juliet asks Sawyer who he thinks they are.
Miles doesn’t care who they are; they don’t even know “when” they are.
Miles turns to Dan, who is sitting quiet and distant, “Hey, Dan, we don’t’ get involved, right? That’s what you said.”     {When did he say that?}
Dan, speaking normal, tells him it doesn’t matter what they do, whatever happened, happened.
Sawyer- “Thanks anyway, Plato.”
Sawyer’s going over there; he makes sure Juliet still has his back.
Sawyer goes in.
The bagged woman is begging for Paul to talk to her.   There is a picnic set up.
Juliet shoots the short haired guy. Sawyer shoots the long haired guy. {Note the colorful flowers around the immediate area.}
Juliet and Sawyer take the guns from the ground. Sawyer removes the bag from the woman’s head and tells her it’s all right. “It’s Okay. You’re safe. It’s over.”
She’s asks who he is. {Watch the three of them from when the bag gets pulled off.}

Amy cries over Paul’s body {She’s sitting very weird.}
Dan watches her.  Juliet touches {searches} the body of one of men shooters and comments that Amy’s “friend’s wearing a Dharma jumpsuit. That puts us in the 70’s, 80’s.”
Sawyer asks her if the guys with the bags, “Others?
Juliet- “Beats me.”
Sawyer- “What? Ya’ll don’t know each other?”
Juliet- “Before my time.”
Jin tosses Sawyer a walkie that from one of the shooters.  Juliet looks very annoyed and says they need to go. There’s static on the walkie.    Sawyer tells Sweetheart Amy they need to get moving now.
She asks, “Who are you people?”
Sawyer tells her their ship wrecked on the way to Tahiti, but that ain’t important right now. He’s concerned that whoever is on the other side of the walkie might have given them a call before they saved her.   {These "Hostiles" have walkies?!}
Amy tells him they have to bury the bodies.  They ain’t got time to bury nobody!   Amy insists they bury the bodies, “The truce...”   She is very upset and crying. She also wants to bring Paul’s body home.    Amy begs, so Jin offers to carry him.
Sawyer okay’s the “putting these guys in the ground and carry your friend back.”
But they better do it fast. Amy admits “he” wasn’t her friend, “he” was her husband. {How did they bury two bodies fast without shovels? I’m just asking!}

Amy leads the way to Dharma village.
Jin carries Paul
.
Sawyer tells the group when they get there there will be a lot of questions. He wants to do all the talking. {Just like Jack did with the Oceanic 6.}
Miles sarcastically questions if Sawyer can really convince them they were in a boat wreck.
Sawyer-“I’m a professional. I used to lie for a living.”  {Look how far he’s come.}
Juliet screams for Dan to “STOP!”
They arrive at the pylons.  Juliet tells Amy to turn it off.
Amy plays stupid, “Turn what off?”
Juliet- “Whatever it is. It looks like some sort of sonic fence or something.”
Concerned Amy- “Where did you say your ship was going?”
Sawyer’s not taking that crap from her, “Listen sister, we’re the ones who just saved your life and hid those bodies. So how bout you trust us and turn that damn thing off?
Amy enters a code on the keypad; she also takes something out from behind the keypad panel that lifts up. {Hiding place.}
Sawyer whispers to Juliet, “Sonic fence? Didn’t I say I’d do all the talking?”
Juliet- “One more step and Dan would have fried his brain.”
Sawyer-“His brain’s already fried.” {It sure is!!}
Amy tells them it’s off. Sawyer wants her to go through it first and she does. You can hear a high pitch buzz when she walks through. She’s fine.
Sawyer’s pleased, “...going forward, we should all do a better job of trusting...” The high pitch buzz of the fence takes them all down. They convulse on the ground.
The buzz only lasts a few seconds. Amy reveals she had earplugs in to protect her from the buzz.

3 Years Later.

Amy’s in labor; she screams in pain.
The doctor asks LaFleur if her husband knows she’s in labor. He’s unavailable. The doctor’s concerned because the baby’s breech, that means upside down. She needs a Caesarian. Sawyer doesn’t want to be told about it, instructs the Dr. to just do it. Unfortunately this Doctor is an internist not an obstetrician.
The Dr. informs La Fleur “Our women always deliver on the mainland. {Oh really?!} The sub was supposed to be here on Tuesday. The baby’s two weeks early.”
La Fleur asks the Dr. if he can deliver this baby or not. The doctor doesn’t know.

LaFleur heads down to the Dharma "motor pool” to retrieve Juliet. She is hard at work underneath a VW Van/Bus. Juliet, from below, asks LaFleur “What’s up?”
He whispers to her Amy is having her baby and she’s in trouble. LaFleur pulls her up so they can talk. He tells her the Doc said Amy needs a caesarian and he never “done one”.
LaFleur guesses Juliet has. Upset Juliet wants to stick with their agreement. After all, every time she tries to help a woman on “this” island give birth, it hasn’t worked. {Maybe she’s a better mechanic.”}
He suggests that maybe what ever made that happen hasn’t happened yet. She’s gotta try and help her, “You’re the only one that can.”
Angrily, Juliet concedes.

Juliet feels Amy’s belly, questions the Dr., “The baby’s breech?” {She can’t tell? Lol} She then asks, “Did you try an external cephalic version?"
No he didn’t; it’s probably too late. Juliet runs down a list of supplies she’s going to need. {No one asks how a mechanic knows these terms or knows how to deliver a baby?}
Dr.-“You’re gonna need? Where’s Horace?”
Sawyer speaks on Horace’s behalf; Juliet’s delivering this baby.
The Dr. doesn’t think it’s a good idea, but Amy wants her to do it. Sawyer gives Juliet a pep talk, telling her she’ll do great.
Juliet gets into Dr. mode, tells Amy to “Shhhh”, puts on her stethoscope for a listen.

Sawyer paces like a daddy in waiting outside the infirmary. A woman exits door 6.
Jin, in perfect English asks La Fleur if everything’s okay. He knows Amy’s in labor.
LaFleur fills him in on there being a problem. Jin/Security is concerned Juliet is in there. LaFleur pulled her out of retirement. {Literally}
He asks Jin, “Any luck?”
Jin tells him they finished grid 1 3 3 today, “No sign of our people. No one.”
Well, it’s on to 1 3 4 then.
Jin- ”How long do we look, James?”
James-“As long as it takes.”
Emotional Juliet comes out, dressed in white scrubs, announcing, “It’s a boy.”
Everyone’s okay!
James is happy and proud.

Sawyer wakes up on the couch in the game room.
{NOTE! We did not get any “3 years earlier” notice here!}
Horace asks, “How’s your head?
It hurts.
Sawyer-“Where are my people?”
Horace tells him they’re fine. Amy told him what happened in the jungle and he appreciates what he did. He also explains they have a certain defense protocol. “There are hostile indigenous people on this island and we don’t get along with them. So why don’t you tell me who the hell you are.”
Sawyer- “My name's James La Fleur.”
Horace can call him Jim. Horace asks Jim how he got to the island.
James- “If my friends are safe, why are you asking me all the questions?”
Horace says his friends said he needed to talk to him, “That you’re the boat captain.”
Jim says they got caught in a storm, “our ship wrecked. Must have hit the reef. Thankfully we washed up on shore.”
Jim takes a glass of milk. Horace asks him what kind of ship.
Jim-“A salvage vessel searching for a famous lost wreck. It’s an old slaver out of Portsmouth, England called the Black Rock. Ever heard of her?”
Horace can’t say that he has. “So, once you got washed up on shore, why were you then wandering around in the jungle.
Jim explains they were looking for some missing crew and stumbled upon his girl instead. Horace tells him if his crew shows up, “we’ll send them along with ya.”
Horace reveals there’s a submarine that leaves “this” island first thing in the morning. Jim and his friends are gonna get on it, it will drop them off in Tahiti. “You can find your way home from there.”
Jim- “Hold on a minute Chief. We just saved that woman’s life, doesn’t that earn us a week or two to find the rest of our people?”
Nope.
Horace tells Jim the only people who are allowed to stay on this compound are members of The Dharma Initiative. He doesn’t want Jim to take this the wrong way but “You are not Dharma material.”
Red haired Horace walks away.

Warm night; the residents of Dharma village go about their business.
Sitting around a table are Miles, Jin, Dan and Juliet.
Miles comments, “We’re screwed. He’s probably trying to explain time travel by now.”    Juliet feels Sawyer will be fine. Miles asks what she’s looking at. Juliet tells them she lived there for over three years, “That was my house over there.” {Glasses of milk on the table}
Miles- “You were in the Dharma Initiative?”
No. The Other's took over the barracks and wiped out most of the people living in them. “They brought me here on a sub a long time after that.”
Miles- Well. Welcome home.”
Jin asks Daniel, “No more Flash?”
Dan, sadly, “No. No more Flash. The record is spinning again. We’re just not on the song we want to be on.
A little red haired girl, “Where’s dad?” {Woman with her has a British accent} She waves.
Dan whispers, happily, “Charlotte.”

Horace tells the foursome somebody will be along shortly to show them to their rooms. In the meantime Mr. La Fleur will fill them in on the situation.
Sawyer tells Miles, LaFleur is Creole; he improvised. {lol! Improvised on the script.}
Sawyer tells him Horace believed his story but, they are getting punted. “The bastard’s putting us on the sub tomorrow and shipping us off to Tahiti.”
Miles doesn’t see that as bad news. A loud alarm sounds and floodlights go on. The residents scramble to get inside for safety.
Phil/Security tells them to get inside, “Move!”
He moves them to a house where Heather, with a gun, can keep an eye on them. They all look out windows to see the action. There is Richard with his torch. Juliet closes her eyes when she sees Richard.
Sawyer- “Uh oh!”

Richard stands outside waiting for Horace. They say hello’s using formal names.
Horace-“I wish you would have told me you were coming, I would have turned the fence off for you.”
Richard-“That fence may keep other things out, but not us. The only thing that does keep us out is our truce. Which you have now broken.”
Horace plays stupid and says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Richard-“Where are my two men?”
From the window, Miles can see the men’s conversation getting heated. He thinks getting on the sub is starting to sound like a great idea. “What do you say? Sub. Anyone?”
Sawyer tells Bonsai to hold his horses. No one’s getting on a sub.
Horace storms in asks La Fleur “How well did you bury those bodies?”
Jim-“That depends on how hard he looks.”
Horace tells Phil to call The Arrow, tell them we’re at condition 1. “Take the heavy ordnance and make sure the fence is at maximum.”
Jim wants to talk to Horace’s buddy out there with the eyeliner.
Horace informs him they had a truce with these people.
Jim understands, “I’m the one who killed his men. And I’m the one who’s gonna go out there and tell them why I did it.”
Horace can’t let him do that. Well, Jim aint asking permission.
Juliet stops him at the door, “James. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”
Not yet, but he’ll figure something out.

Richard sits waiting on the park bench.“Hello, Richard.”
Scruffy Richard asks if they know each other.
James- “I’m the guy that killed your men.”
He goes on to tell Richard those events. How one of the men took a shot at him, he defended himself. That’s so.
Richard-“You’re people know that you’re telling me this?”
James-“Aint my people, Hoss. So if you’ve got some kind of a truce with them, it aint been broken.”
Richard asks if he’s not a member of the Dharma Initiative then, “what are you?”
Sawyer sits next to Richard, asks if he buried the hydrogen bomb with Jughead written on the side. “Did you bury it?”
Yep, Sawyer knows about it. He also knows that “20 years ago some bald fella limped into your camp and fed you some mumbo jumbo about being your leader. And then poof, he went and disappeared right in front of ya. Any of this ringing a bell?...That man’s name is John Locke.  And I’m waiting for him to come back.”
Richard looks as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing.
Sawyer- “So, do you still think I’m a member of the damn Dharma Initiative?
Richard-“No. I guess I don’t. But no matter who you are, two of my men are dead, and my people need some kind of justice. What are we gonna do about that?”

Paul, still in his Dharma jumpsuit, lies on the bed.   Amy watches over him. Horace comes in with LaFleur, asks how she’s doing.    She asks if Alpert’s gone.  Horace tells her no, he’s not gone.    He tells Amy they told Richard where the bodies were; they had to. It was the only way to maintain the truce. Jim worked it out with him, but he wants something from them in return. “He needs to take Paul’s body back with him.”
She cries.
Horace shares with her they’ve been friends a long time, this is completely her choice. “If you don’t wanna give him to them, then we will suffer the consequences.”
Amy- “They can take him. He would wanna keep us safe.”
She asks for a minute. She cries, and takes the Ankh on the dark cord from his neck and puts it to her lips. She walks by LaFleur; he says he’s sorry. James offers Horace help, but Horace got it.
Horace tells Jim the sub's leaving tomorrow, it returns in two weeks. Until then they can stay “and look for the rest of your crew.”
Jim thanks him.

Juliet sits on the dock where the sub is docked.
Sawyer- “Bought us 2 weeks.”    He tells her Horace said we could wait for the next sub, “With any luck, Locke will be back by then.”
Then what?
Juliet- "Locke said he was leaving to save us. The Flashes have stopped. They’re over. No more bloody noses. We’re already saved.” {huh?!} She tells him that sub behind him brought her there. She’s, “been trying to get off this island for more than 3 years, and now I’ve got my chance. I’m going to leave.”
He looks troubled, asks if she realizes it’s 1974. Whatever it is she thinks she’s going back to don’t exist yet. {WTF?}
Juliet- “It’s not a reason not to go.”
But what about him?!
James- “You’re really gonna leave me here with the Mad Scientist and Mr. 'I speak to dead people'? And Jin, who’s a hell of a nice guy, but not exactly the greatest conversationalist.”
He wants to know who’s gonna get his back. {Well, wasn’t that just fucking sweet?} He asks her for two weeks.
They both smile. All right, she’ll give him two weeks.

Three Years Later.

A Chess game is being played.
LaFleur picks a pretty flower; he even smells it!
There are flowers in a vase on a table set and ready for eats! Salad, tomato, Dharma wine. LaFleur enters the house, “Something smells good.” {What’s with all the vegetables? Vegetarians}
Juliet cooked.  He gives her the flower; after all, she was amazing today. They hug.
Juliet-“Thank you for believing in me.”
More kissing.
Juliet- “I love you.”
He loves her too. {OMFG!}

LaFleur, in glasses, reads a {blue} book {no title}, “Wake up, Boss.”
Horace wakes up.
LaFleur-“How’s your head?”
It hurts.
LaFleur got good news and bad news.
Horace wants the good news first.
He’s a daddy. The bad news is he missed it.
LaFleur smiles proudly, “It’s a boy.”
He asks Horace why he was busy drinking and blowing up trees to see him be born.
Horace shares he was looking for a pair of socks, {Red socks?!} all of his were dirty so he grabbed a pair of Amy’s.  He found Paul’s Ankh in the back of the drawer.
Jim is surprised he got upset over a necklace.   Horace also shares that it’s only been three years since Paul’s gone, “Is that really long enough to get over someone?”
It is LaFleur’s turn to share. He had a thing for a girl once. Although he had a shot at her, he didn’t take it. While he laid in bed every night, he wondered if that was a mistake, “Wonder if I’d ever stop thinking about her.” Now he can barely remember what she looks like. “And her face...She’s just, gone. And she aint never coming back.”
He feels three years is long enough to get over someone. {Never say never!}

Juliet and James sleep. The phone rings, waking them. {Juliet naked. Sawyer NOT!} James answers the 'bat phone'. {lol!}
He tells the caller “No. Don’t bring em in. Just meet me in the North Valley.”
James hurries to put on his Dharma jumpsuit and glasses.
He tells Juliet Jin called, everything’s okay, but he’s gotta go.

James drives a blue jeep to meet Jin.
Jin pulls up in the blue VW van.
Out steps Hurley and guitar case and Jack.
There is a sense of “happy to see each other”.
James removes his glasses and sees Kate. They make eye contact.

LaFleur is a GREAT episode!!
Let's go back to Mr. John Locke-Jeremy Bentham for a minute.   I’ve mentioned many times the sensation that he, along with the rest of them, are in a state of learning, growing, evolving, maybe to reach enlightenment.   I didn’t take Bentham/Locke’s death literally.    I feel this with a few of our other "Island" residents too.  Maybe it’s more of a spiritual ending and rebirth.   I could be wrong about it.  But again for me, metaphoric hints to things seem to be a major part of the experience.   I also keep the "game" element close, while still wondering about the "merged reality" being a possible way they are experiencing things. There totally seems to be a connection to machines and them being high.

And just for the record I want to state that there are "issues" addressed in the episode with LaFleur that for me really feel like they're pointing to Jack and Christian.

Things to Note…Questions to ask…
* EYES. Glasses.
* 1974-1977
* “When” are Locke and the people on the Hydra Island?
* The people we know who’ve done bad things end up working Dharma Security.
* Egypt. Greek. Roman.
* Languages. Communication.
* Ankh- Life. Eternal life. Breath of life
* Pregnancy. Birth. Breeding. Create. Death.
* Remember. Forget. Head. Mind.
* Change identities. Integrate. Role changes.
* Disappear.  Appear.
* Mad scientist. Plato.
* The "Hostiles" broke the truce? Richard’s people have guns and walkies.
* Amy doesn't wear a Dharma jumpsuit, ever.
* Horace doesn’t drink, but is drunk.
* Horace was with Olivia the teacher when Ben was born.  She was Ben’s teacher.  How is she “associated” with Horace?
* Should young Ben be there yet?
* Turn it off.  A machine  that "looks like" (here it's the security fence).  Turn on-turn off.
* Gone-not gone.   Dead-Alive.
* Is "moving on" the same as "passing away?"   Or just removed from the playing field? Or just moving forward?
* The 70’s had some friggin ugly décor!
* Why didn’t Juliet or any of the other Lostie’s choose to leave on the sub? Ever.
* The head case, uh, I mean Dan- Emotional, like he was when we first met him.
* “Don’t get involved”  Is also said by Ben when he sent Goodwin and Ethan to infiltrate the survivors of Oceanic.
* “Who are you people?”...Michael has said this same line.
* Alcohol. Marijuana.  Things that make you high.
* UPSIDE DOWN!
* Here in the 70’s Sawyer wears glasses to see far and read. On the beach in 2004 he needs glasses only to read.   Hmm...the "Island" and healing...vision...eyes...
* The little girl waving to Daniel in 1974 should not be Charlotte.  Ben told us she was born in 1979. So how could this be?   Could Dan’s personal sense of time be skewed due to some sort of altered-mental state he may be in? Come on! He’s a friggin head case!
* Who is James... Really?

Vocabulary and Research...
* The Musion Eyeliner is a modern commercial variation of a stage illusion called Pepper’s ghost, using high definition video projection or LED screens to allow moving images to appear within a live stage setting.
* Motor pool is tied to Fleet vehicles. Those are groups of motor vehicles owned or leased by a business or government agency.
* Ankh- The Hindu meaning of the word Ankh is “EYE”.
* Ankh the Egyptian Symbol of key of life.  Eternal Life.  The gods are often seen holding an ankh to someone's lips his is considered to be an offering of "The Breath of Life".
* A Creole language, or simply a Creole, is a stable language that originates seemingly as a native pidgin. The term Creole comes from French Creole, from Spanish criollo, and from Portuguese crioulo, stemming from the verb criar ('to breed') from the Portuguese, or creare from Latin ('to produce, create'). The term was coined in the 16th century during the great expansion in European maritime power and trade and the establishment of European colonies in the Americas, Africa, and along the coast of South and Southeast Asia up to the Philippines, Indonesia, China, India, and in Oceania.
* Candida is a genus of yeasts.
* Tony Orlando and Dawn released the song Candida in 1970. Here's some lyrics.
The stars won't come out, If they know that you're about.Cause they couldn't match the glow of your eyes
And, oh, who am I? Just an ordinary guy, Trying hard to win me first prize
Oh my Candida, We could make it together,
The further from here girl the better
Where the air is fresh and clean
Oh my Candida, Just take my hand and I'll lead ya
I promise that life will be sweeter
'Cause it said so in my dreams.

* In 5th century BC Greece, Antiphon the Sophist, in a fragment preserved from his chief work On Truth held that: "Time is not a reality (hypostasis), but a concept (noêma) or a measure (metron)."

* Arrow of time, or time’s arrow, is a term coined in 1927 by British astronomer Arthur Eddington used to distinguish a direction of time on a four-dimensional relativistic map of the world.

* Altered States of Consciousness is sometimes characterized by a different estimation of time. Some psychoactive substances – such as entheogens – may also dramatically alter a person's temporal judgment. When viewed under the influence of such substances as LSD, psychedelic mushrooms and peyote, a clock may appear to be a strange reference point and a useless tool for measuring the passage of events, as it does not correlate with the user's experience. At higher doses, time may appear to slow down, stop, speed up, go backwards and even seem out of sequence. As the boundaries for experiencing time are removed, so is its relevance. Many users claim this unbounded timelessness feels like a glimpse into spiritual infinity. To imagine that one exists somewhere "outside" of time is one of the hallmark experiences of a psychedelic voyage. Marijuana, a milder psychedelic, may also distort the perception of time to a lesser degree.

The practice of meditation, central to all Buddhist traditions, takes as its goal the reflection of the mind back upon itself, thus altering the subjective experience of time; the so called, 'entering the now'.

* Clouding of consciousness is a global impairment in higher central nervous functioning. All aspects of cognitive functioning are affected. On mental status examination it is manifest by disorientation in time, place and person, memory difficulties caused by failure to register and recall, aphasia, dysphasia and agnosia.  Impaired perception functioning leads to illusions and hallucinations often in the visual sensory modality. This then causes agitation and distress and secondary delusions.

* Perception of time. Even in the presence of timepieces, different individuals may judge an identical length of time to be passing at different rate.

* Ego death is an experience that reveals the illusory aspect of the ego, sometimes undergone by Psychonauts, Mysticism, Shamans, Monks, Psychologists, and others interested in exploring the depths of the mind. The practice of ego death as a deliberately sought “mystical experience“ in some ways overlaps, but is nevertheless distinct from, traditional teachings concerning enlightenment/Nirvana (In Buddhism) or “Mosksha” (in Hinduism), which might perhaps be better understood as transcendence of the notion that one even has any actual, non-illusory “ego“ with which to experience "death" in the first place.
It should also be noted, within the context of this system, that ego death is not actual death itself, but rather a temporary state of mind, which can be stabilized and revertedThis can be done either by thought-source control for any who have achieved the state, as well as by de-intoxication for those who have reached the state using psychedelics.

The LaFleur episode seems to have hinted in a clearer way how "time" could be an "emotional issue" not a "time travel" issue, per say.   It is true; emotions play a part in "time" for everyone.  Believe me I have not counted out the possibility of adult Ben knowing everything about the crash and people of Oceanic, because of a "possible" “time travel” thingy going on.   If he was a kid when LaFleur and Juliet were there in the 70’s that would mean he would know Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Locke and everyone else in 2004.  But he would know James as LaFleur, not Ford or Sawyer. Hmmmm.
But if we’re seeing more about them running through "mind" exercises/journey, a game, then they all just may be nothing more than case studies.  Or who knows, maybe they even paid for this experience.
Why, oh why do I still feel we’re seeing issues regarding perception and altered states of consciousness. Again, I’m not trying to convince you that “all” of what we see is “Not Real”, but too many times I feel as if things are not real and are happening while in an altered state of consciousness.  We still see evidence of things possibly happening while they are in a sleep state.    We also see hints to hypnosis, brain washing, coercive persuasion, illusions, hallucinations, lucid dreams, drugs, sleep deprivation, mediation, and all the other Mind Fucks we see.  But it does all serve a purpose...so that there is learning and an awakening.

At this point all I can suggest is to go get yourself a wind up clock, listen to it tick.
Close your eyes and relax. Take a deep breath, and exhale slowly.
Concentrate on your breathing. Feel yourself breathe. With each breath you become more relaxed.
Imagine a brilliant bright light above you. Focus in on this light as it flows through your body. Allow yourself to relax and drift off you fall deeper and deeper into a more relaxed state of mind.
As I count back from 10 to 1 you will feel calm and at peace.
10 9 8 7 6... You will enter a safe place where nothing can hurt you... 5 4 3 2... If at any time you need to come back, all you have to do is open your eyes. 1.

Now, sleep, dream, recall a memory or imagine a new future with the new you.  Your mind can take you to some amazing places.
Oh, one more thought before I leave you…
Let's see…Christian speaks on Jacobs behalf…Sawyer speaks on Horace’s behalf…Horace builds the cabin for himself and the Mrs.…Hmmmmm.

Love to all who are “LOST”™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.
