Live Together, Die Alone. Part 1

Let's talk about LOST! Live Together, Die Alone. PART 1.

"Are we rescued/saved?" asks Charlie as they all see the boat out in the water. The survivors all wave their hands in hopes of getting the attention of someone on the boat.
Sayid-"Perhaps it's them." {Whom?}

Sayid, Sawyer and Jack dive in and swim out to the boat.
Kate looks through binoculars. {They're at a funeral and Kate happens to have binoculars.}
Charlie- "Maybe it's a trap?"
Hurley-"What do you mean a trap?"

Jack, Sawyer and Sayid climb on board and cock their soaking wet guns. The 3 amigos hear Opera music coming from below.

Shots are fired upward from below.
They hear the gun run out of bullets and a voice say, “Damn it.”
Jack kicks in the boat’s hatch.
Drunk Desmond looks up, "You."
He laughs in amusement.{We get a glimpse of Sawyer's healed gunshot wound on his left shoulder}

Nigh on the beach:
Jack brings over food and talks to a still drinking/drunk Desmond.
Jack chats with Des about him running off and that he forgot to mention that he still had a sailboat.
Jack- “Why’d you come back?
The drunk replies, "Do you think I did it on purpose?”
Desmond tells his tale of sailing out there for 2 ½ weeks, bearing due west, making 9 knots, he should've been in Fiji in less than a week. The first piece of land he saw wasn't Fiji; it was here, this island. He continues, "Because this is it. This is all there is left. This Ocean and this place here. We're stuck in a bloody snow globe. There's no outside world, there’s no escape."
Desmond wants Jack to go away and let him drink.
Sayid gets Jack’s attention.
Desmond asks Jack, "You still pushing it?
Jack smiles, "Yeah, we're still pushing it."
Desmond shakes his head as if to imply they’re idiots.
{FLASH}
BUZZZZ!!!
Desmond stands at the counter in a military prison.
The soldier/guard is returning Desmond’s personal property to put in a brown paper bag. {A set of keys, pocket watch-gold plated, 1 photograph w/Penny, one book 'Our Mutual Friend' by Charles Dickens. {Hardcover}
{Over the speaker you can hear, Corporal Priestly 9 1….}
The Guard asks him why he didn't bring the book inside.
Desmond-"To avoid temptation, brother.”   He's read everything Mr. Charles Dickens has ever written, every wonderful word, every book, except this one. He's saving it. It will be the last thing he reads before he dies.
The Guard
- "That it's a nice idea, as long as you know when you're gonna die." {Does he know when he's going to die? Nobody knows that! How would he know when to start reading it?}
The guard proclaims, "Lance Corporal Desmond David Hume, your sentence is hereby complete. You are now and forever Dishonorable Discharged from the Royal Scots Regiment of her majesties armed forces. Long live the queen."
A date on discharge paper April 4, 1999. The guard tells Desmond to "Enjoy your sodding book!" {Does he know Desmond is going to die? LOL!}

Desmond leaves the building with his paper bag.
Thunder rolls and it’s pouring rain.
Building 5B and sign that says Southway Garrison. B Company.
Desmond is offered a ride by a man in a fancy car {Mr. Widmore}. Desmond initially refuses the ride from him. Widmore tells Desmond to “Get in the car!”
Sitting in the back seat Desmond notices Widmore has a black box and a white box, “Did you bring me a present?”
Actually Widmore brought Desmond two presents. “One of these boxes contains your past, Hume, the other, your future.”
Desmond opens the black box containing all the undelivered letters he wrote to Penny (who he calls Pen).
Desmond is upset, “You’re a bastard. You know that.”
Widmore feels that it’s good for Penny to have not received his sentiments. Now Penny believes Desmond has forsaken her and that’s the way it’s going to stay. Widmore shares Penelope has moved on with her life and will marry. Widmore opens the white box, "This is for your new life, away from my daughter. The conditions are simple. No contact, No calls, No post. You just run away."
Widmore feels Desmond would 'just' run away because he's a coward. {Coward from what?}

Back on the beach Desmond continues to imbibe.
Sayid talks to Jack about taking advantage of Michael being compromised by the Others, "I believe fate has given us our answer. The boat."
Sayid explains to Jack the camp Michael is leading them to is where the Others will set their trap. Michael will lead them by land, Sayid will approach by sea; he can go ashore undetected and scout for them. Their numbers and positions, their weapons. Then he will go to the nearest beach and start a signal fire with these leaves that burn a dark black smoke. {Oh really? Hmmm?} "You and your team will meet me at the signal and will go in together."
Sayid feels sure Michael has been turned and doesn't want the other three to know the plan. Sayid doesn't want Michael to sense they know he is lying, "All we have is the element of surprise, Jack."
Jack’s only responsibility is to keep it secret.
Jack-"Black Smoke, huh?"
Sayid nods, "This time they will know that we are coming." {This time!}

Locke limps into the computer room of the hatch. We hear the big magnet sound, computers running and clicking.
Eko, who is happy to see John, is looking over the log printouts from the Pearl Station.
The timer shows 5 minutes.
Eko asks John where he’s been.
John’s been thinking… in a minute that computer’s gonna start beeping and he wants Eko to "let the computer run down to zero, past zero. And you're not gonna push the button."
Eko smiles, “But I am going to push the button. Why wouldn’t I?”
Locke- "But you don't want to be a slave."
Eko-"I am a slave to nothing"
Locke
-"You're a slave to that. {points to the time/timer}Just like I was. So I'm going to tell you again…don't push it."
Eko- "Do not tell me what I can do."
As Eko is entering the numbers Locke attempts to smash the computer with Eko’s stick.
Eko grabs the stick before he can hit the computer with it he punches John in the face.
Eko enters the code.
Eko literally tosses Locke out of the hatch as Locke's yelling "No, it's not real! We're only puppets! Puppets on strings! As long as we push it we'll never be free".
Eko
-"Well you're free now, John. Do not come back."
Eko closes the door on Locke.

Daylight at the beach:
The boat is pretty far off shore.
Jack gives one armed Michael a gun. Jack tries to give Hurley a gun, but Hurley says, "No way. If I take that, I'm gonna kill someone."
The point of this excursion is to get Walt back.
Jack gives Kate a gun and she looks at it weird. She talks to Jack again about the stuff they found in the medical station, "Costume, makeup, fake beards. What if these people just want us to think they're hillbillies?"
Michael gets uppity, “Listen. Listen, I was there. I saw them, they are hillbillies! They live in huts, they eat fish. They’re probably more scared than we are and they have no idea we're on our way!"
Sawyer interjects, “Alright. Enough jibber jabber. Let’s Roll."
And they all roll.

ELIZABETH Newport Beach is the name and port city on the boat.
Desmond is rowing to shore.
Desmond and his bottle arrive at the beach. Sayid tells him he needs his boat. Sayid informs Des he's not going "out there"; he needs to get to the north shore quickly.

Desmond asks if he's off to see the Hostiles.
Sayid- "The what?"
Desmond-“You know what? Ignorance is bliss. The boat’s all yours, brotha." {WTF? So don't tell him any info that he may need to save his life or protect anyone? WHY? Maybe he's only worried about himself} Sayid admits he doesn’t know how to sail. Desmond suggests he find someone that does.
{Flash}
Desmond is at the counter buying a cup of coffee. {The color Yellow is obvious here.} He orders the one with the most caffeine in it {stimulant} He's just arrived and doesn't have any more American money; spent it all on a taxi.
Libby, who is behind him in line, pays for it. $4.00. Desmond jokingly asks her if she has 42,000 more of those.
Libby replies seriously, “Depends on what it’s for.” {Really!?} She feels he wasn’t joking about asking for money.
Des tells her about the Solo Sailing Race Around the World. The brochure cover shows us: International Open Ocean Racing Association. Notice of Race.
Desmond’s got 8 months to get in the best shape of his life.
Desmond adamantly tells her, "I'm going to win."
Libby wants to know what he gets if he wins. To Desmond, what matters is who he wins it from. He shows her the back of the brochure; a picture of Charles Widmore. Industrialist, Philanthropist. Sailing Competition.
He openly shares with this "stranger" the fact Widmore tried to buy him off, and when Des didn’t take his money Widmore took away the only thing in the world he ever truly cared about.
Libby- “Who is she?”
Desmond-“His daughter. I was unsuitable on several levels.”
Libby asks what the 42 grand is for. Desmond reveals he still needs a boat.
Libby looks stunned as she has a boat. It belonged to her husband. He wanted to sail to the Mediterranean but he got sick and passed away a month ago. She wants Desmond to have his boat. Desmond says he can't take it.
Libby- "You have to. He'd want you to have it." {WTF? Why would he want HIM to have it?}
Desmond asks what his name was. “David named the boat after her. {Elizabeth}
Desmond accepts the generous gift and says "I thank you, Elizabeth. And I shall win this race for love." {David -Desmond’s middle name and the formal of Dave. Elizabeth-Libby-Ellie.}

Back at the beach, Sun and Sayid talking. Jin comes over to have a private chat with Sun; Sayid will be at the shore. Sun tells Jin, Sayid wants him to sail the boat to the other side of the island to help Michael. Jin smiles but says no; he won’t leave her now. But he wouldn’t be leaving her because Sun’s going with them.

Michael leads the group through the jungle.
Sawyer sees a doll on the ground and almost falls into the ol dolly trap. Kate shares it’s one of the many traps Rousseau has throughout the island. Sawyer asks her how she knows that.
Kate shares the bit about her and Jack getting caught in a net. They hear what sounds like wings flutter/fly by them. A Big {Prehistoric size, camouflage bird} flies over them. Then sound/"HURLEY" coming from the bird.
Hurley-"Did that bird just say my name?"
Sawyer says yeah it did, and then sarcastically, "Right before it crapped gold." {That's interesting, only Hurley heard anything. Also note that the bird and Hurley blend in with the jungle.}

Michael is the only one pulling the trigger at the “bird”, except he realizes his gun has no bullets. Jack gives him a new mag and apologizes for forgetting to load his. Michael realizes that they may be onto him.

Charlie comes upon Locke crying in the jungle. Locke pulls himself together.
Charlie asks Locke what happened to his face. Nothing; Locke says he’s fine.
Charlie- “Hey ahh, you’re feeling sorry for yourself, you may wanna have a drink with your mate from the hatch. I hear he’s a little despondent as well.”
Locke- “What?”
That’s right, Locke wasn’t there for "Desmond's dramatic arrival at the funeral.
Charlie-“I think he’s pushed your button too many times, if you ask me.” {Charlie has attitude/eyes}.
Locke- “Desmond?”
Yep.
Charlie’s sure Locke and Desmond have a lot to talk about. Charlie gives a quiet chuckle then just walks away.

Sayid hides a gun on the small raft in a blue tarp.
Sayid says to Sun “I’m sorry if what I said was confusing but, I asked Jin to come.”
Sun explains you need at least two people who know how to sail and she'll translate. Sayid notes that Desmond managed by himself.
Sun-“And look where he ended up.” {Jin seems to have understood what Sun just said. Desmond’s boat is very far in the distance.}

At the beach, Claire is contemplating the whole pneumatic injector issue with the baby.
Desmond, still drinking his bottomless bottle of liquor, says "You're wasting your time sister. I shot myself with that stuff every 9 days for 3 years."

Desmond walks over to look at the “lovely” baby and asks, ”Is the father here on the island?”
Claire- “No. He’s been gone a long time.” She shares he walked off when he got scared over the situation.
Drunk Desmond thinks maybe the guy knew he’d be a lousy dad and did what was best for her. Insulted Claire replies, “He was doing what was best for him. “ {That is important, especially said in Desmond's company.}
{Flash}
At the stadium, Desmond is outside his car gearing up for a run. Jack pulls up in the background. {His tee-shirt has an emblem on the left side} Penny pulls up. {Jack runs up the steps.} Des is surprised but not shocked to see her.
Desmond-“How did you find me?
Penny was able to find him due to her affluence. "With money and determination, you can find anyone." She asks if he read his beloved book, the one he was saving.
Desmond- “Not yet.” She thought he might have read while he was away.
Des was he was in prison, “not away”.
Penny gets teary eyed and asks why he didn’t write to her. He doesn't give an answer to that question, just asks when she'll get married. They have yet to set a date.
Desmond-"I'll be back in a year."
Pen- "What if you were back right now?"
Desmond tells Pen that he's going to win this race, “his” race and in a year he'll be back.
Penny- “Desmond, what are you running from?”
Desmond- "I have to get my honor back. And that's what I'm running to." He runs off.

The beach at night:
Locke approaches Desmond {He's still drinking his bottomless bottle of liquor; finally finishes the Dharma Chardonnay and tosses it.} and asks, “So, what did 1 snowman say to the other snowman?"
Desmond, who seems happy to see him says, "Smells like carrots." {Des has a bottle of Dharma Merlot.} They both smile seemingly happy to see each other.
Locke- “Hello Desmond.”
Desmond-“Hello yourself Boxman.”
Locke shares a sip from the bottle. Desmond notes that he/Locke managed to fix the computer.
Locke- "The world's still here aint it?"
Desmond isn’t so sure about that.
Locke asks Desmond to refresh his memory. {YEAH!! Refresh it!}
Locke-"How long did you say you were you down in the hatch?"
Desmond- "Three years.”
Locke-"What if I told you that, for all that, all those years that you and all the men before you, were down there, pushing that button. What if I told you it was all for nothing?"
Desmond-"I’d ask ya how the hell you'd know something like that?"
Locke-"I found another hatch. Another station on the island. They called it the Pearl. And I saw a film there. An orientation film. And it said that everything that was happening in our hatch wasn't real. That it was a test. A psychological experiment." {"He" found another hatch! Eko did too!}
Desmond feels he's lying, so Locke presents the video tape to him.
Locke-"You want to take a walk? I'll make the popcorn."
Desmond gets mad, "You're so sure it's not real, then just stop pushing the button."
Locke says he has stopped, but someone else decided to start. He tells Desmond to sober up, "We're going to get a good night's sleep, tomorrow we're gonna find out what happens if that button doesn't get pushed."

Hurley sits starring at the campfire. Sawyer offers him a Dharma nutribar but Hurley’s not hungry.

Michael out in the jungle is breathing heavy, stressed and sweating. You can see he’s got some heavy thoughts on his mind. Jack asks is he’s alright. Michael tells him he’s just getting some more fire wood and that he’s not feeling too hot. Jack tells Michael he shouldn’t be out there alone; so he gives him a hand. Michael thanks Jack for coming out here, risking his neck for his boy.
Jack-" Live together, Die alone, man."
Michael-“Yeah.”
Daylight:
Sun, Jin and Sayid sail around the island. Sun pukes over the side of the boat. Jin remarks that he told her not to come. She says it’s not seasickness. {Seasick sailor.}
There’s something Jin wants her to see. Sayid is looking through binoculars.
They see a 4 toed statue in the water near the shore of the island.
Sayid-“I don’t know what is more disquieting. That fact that the rest of the statue is missing or that it has four toes.”

Eko is in the computer room of the Swan hatch. He is carving into his stick. {9 22 next to the word revelation. The log print out is underneath the stick with 9 22} the electricity is blinking and buzzing. The power goes out leaving him in the dark!
Something resets and things power back up. {You can hear winding up sound}

The countdown clock shows 101 00.
Eko, armed with his stick and flashlight, gets up to investigate. The hatch door is wide open. There is a humming sound. He sees that a fuse has been tampered with.
The static countdown with the woman's voice starts. 8… 7...6... We see Desmond handling some live wires trying to spark a connection. …5….4…. Locke enters the computer room.
The countdown clock shows 101 00. An alarm sounds and the blast doors go down!
Eko runs to try to get back to the computer. While trying to get in his stick ends up with Locke inside the blast door sealed computer room. Eko is locked out!
Locke tells Desmond that's a neat trick! {The whole making the blast doors go down thingy} Eko is yelling for John from the other side of the blast door. Desmond hopes that Locke is sure about this.
Locke- "I'm more sure about this than anything in my entire life." {Did they get a good night's sleep? Is this a day later? The same day?}
Des-"Alright then Boxman…we wait."
{Flash}
It's a very stormy night.
Desmond is on the sailboat in this storm. His boat is getting tossed around by the violent waves. He’s holding on to the wheel trying to keep control of the boat. He ties up the wheel with rope. Then Des heads below deck, grabs his 'Our mutual friend' book, seals it in plastic for protection, and wraps duct tape around the plastic.
Back on deck Desmond falls, hits his head and gets knocked out. {Yeah, didn't see that coming. LOL!}
Flashes of Desmond waking up face down on shore.

A man in a yellow chemical/environmental/HAZMAT protective suit and mask picks him up then drags Desmond through the jungle on a stretcher made form branches.
{Note that things are very blurry, jumbled and distorted! One person is perceived as 2 or more people.}
We then see Desmond lying in the bunk bed trying to get some clarity.
The man removes the book from Desmond's protective plastic wrap and throws the book! Then he begins to remove his protective gear as Desmond appears to watch him.
The man in the yellow suit whispers, "Are you him?…What did 1 snowman say to the other?" Desmond has no idea what this man is talking about.
This is Kelvin Inman. Inman says that he found Desmond washed up on the beach, there was no boat. Kelvin is wearing a Dharma jumpsuit with the Swan patch on it. The beeping starts.
Desmond follows him into the computer room.
Kelvin, half in/half out of his Hazmat suit, enters a code and the clock resets.
Desmond asks "What was all that about then?"
Kelvin, seeming to not give a shit says, "Just saving the world." {Kelvin walked by the same new washer/dryer that is in the hatch with the Castaways. How new/old are those appliances, really?}

Desmond is watching the orientation film on the reel to reel projector.
{Note the audio sounds backwards. Desmond stops then starts the projector and it fixes itself.}

The film: “Not long after the experiments began however, there was an incident. And since that time the following protocol has been observed. Every 108 minutes the button must be pushed. From the moment the alarm sounds you will have 4 minutes to enter the code into the microcomputer processor.” {Note Candle is in a room within a room and there is an EXIT}

Kelvin asks Desmond how many times he's going to watch that thing. {How many times? Hmm?!} Desmond asks why there are missing parts.
Kelvin mentions Radzinski (his partner) made some edits. Kelvin is suiting up to go outside. He uses Duct tape to make his suit airtight.
Desmond wonders what happened to his partner but he doesn't answer.
Kelvin wants Desmond to be sure to put the film back behindTurn of the screw’ when he’s done. Desmond asks why he wears that suit. Kelvin explains he wears the suit so he doesn't get infected out there. He gives Desmond the pneumatic injector and tells him to give himself a shot of this every 9 days, “You were out there a while before I found you. I hope it's not too late." {Manipulation-con}

In the computer room Desmond asks Locke, “Who is he, Boxman? The man out there pounding on the door.”
The timer shows 99 00. You can hear Eko pounding and yelling for John to open up the door.
John sits calmly, “His name is Mr. Eko.”
Desmond wants to know why Mr. Eko carries around a stick covered in scripture.
Locke says he's a priest.
Desmond- "We locked out a priest?"

Eko looks around; there’s a hum. He climbs out of the hatch and sees the blown open hatch door with the word Quarantine stamped on it.

Charlie is playing guitar on the beach. Eko runs up to him, “Charlie, do you know how they got the hatch door open?!”
Charlie- “No but if you hum it I can probably play it.”
Charlie reveals they blew it up. Eko needs Charlie’s help.
Charlie- "Oh now I'm back in your good graces, father?"
Eko frantically tells him about John locking him out of the hatch. Eko believes John is going to stop pushing the button. If John is successful, Eko is absolutely certain that in 90 minutes everyone on the island will die! {WOW!}
Charlie thinks about it for a few seconds, and says he's in.

In the jungle, Sawyer asks Michael if he thinks these Others are left over from the Dharma folk. Michael doesn't know.
Sawyer's theory is that they're aliens, “That's why they use the fake beards; their heads are made of prosthetic.”    Except he says the word prosthetic wrong and Hurley corrects him. Sawyer remarks about being corrected by a guy that can’t spell so he asks Freckles for her opinion.
Kate tells them to keep moving, “We’re being followed...Just keep smiling.”
Kate notes there are at least 2 of them across the river.   In 5 seconds she's gonna turn the tables on them. She asks Sawyer, “You in?”
Kate opens fire on them! One is dead, another is getting away. Kate wants to go after the one who got away. Jack says no.
Sawyer yells, “You crazy! You let him go they’ll know we’re comin'! He’ll warn them!”
Jack says it doesn’t matter if they catch him now, they’ve already been warned. He realizes Michael was indeed part of the set up. Jack knows Michael is lying and demands he tell everyone what he’s doing.
Michael reveals “It was the only way. They gave me a list…It had your names on it. I had to bring all four of you back or they said I’d never see my son again.”
Michael swears to Jack these people live in a camp with huts.
Jack takes the list from him. They now know Michael let Henry go, and killed the girls. He had to kill the girls, there was no other way. Killing Libby was a mistake; he didn’t have time to think. Hurley asks him if he had time, would he still have killed them. Michael is still claiming this is all about his son.
Upset Hurley says he's going back.
Jack talks him into staying. Jack apologizes for bringing them out there, but they have to follow the plan.
Sawyer wants to know “What plan?” {Apparently Jack has a plan.}

Sayid is on the boat, kneeling, praying.
Jin sees something through the binoculars. He leaves the wheel and shows Sayid some sort of rock structure. {Sun is at the wheel}
Sayid says that's the rock Michael described, "We're here."

Charlie and Eko are in the jungle looking for the spot that (Charlie says) Hurley showed the explosives he hid. Eko says they are running out of time. Of course Charlie finds the dynamite under leaves, wrapped in a blue/white beach towel.
Charlie warns him to be careful, “Dynamite is very unstable. Don’t handle it like Dr. Arzt.”
Eko brings the dynamite to the hatch.
Charlie is trying to get focused Eko to listen, “What if we hurt them or blow up the computer?”
Eko tells him he can leave now.
Charlie pleads with John beyond the blast door.
Desmond is twirling Eko’s stick.
Charlie says they should try to work this thing out. Charlie is trying to express to John that "Eko is very upset” and they should open the door and talk about it. Eko is running the fuse line. Charlie tells John Eko is going to blow open the blast door with dynamite from the old ship in the jungle.
Desmond tells him not to bother. It would take an atom bomb to do the job.
Locke-“You sure it’ll hold?”
Desmond looks at a damaged/crushed metal cart,Aye. I’m sure.”
{Flash}
Desmond is playing with 2 wires to start a connection. {The electronic woman’s voice counts down.}
The timer shows 9100 When the countdown reaches 3…2…1… Des makes the Blast Doors go down for the lockdown. He smiles when the blast door can’t completely crush a metal cart.
Kelvin is pouring laundry detergent out into a measuring cup. {He mixing up stuff to act as invisible/glow ink}
Desmond asks how he knows where he left off from.
Kelvin inspects the blast door, “Slowly, Des.Very, very slowly.”
Kelvin paints the Blast Door Map. He says this whole baby was Radzinski's idea. He has a photographic memory. Radzinski also figured out how to fake a lockdown and created this great invisible map.
Desmond considered these tales about Kelvin’s former partner.
Kelvin shows Desmond a brown stain on the ceiling, "That's Radzinski."    Radzinski put a shotgun in his mouth when Kelvin was asleep. {Sam Toomey also killed himself this way} Kelvin only had 108 minutes to bury the poor bastard.
Desmond- “Well, if you don’t want me to go crazy, next time let me go out.”
Kelvin- "What? You want to go out there with the quarantine and the hostiles?”
Desmond says he hasn't been outside for two bloody years, “Yes, I wanna go. I was in the Army for god sake.”
Kelvin mocks him- "Oh yeah, Her Majesties army…Tell me Desmond, why did you leave that nice old ladies army. Oh, I remember now, you got kicked out because you couldn't follow orders?"
Desmond asks him why he left his army.
Kelvin shares with contempt, "Because men followed my orders. But then, thank god, I joined the Dharma initiative. Namaste. Thank you and good luck."
Desmond begs to go out just once.
Kelvin-"Sorry. You stay here and push the button. That's an order." {Is Kelvin still in a role of giving orders? Is he still in command of an Army? Hmmm? By the way, it’s a good thing Radzinski was the same size as Desmond. Otherwise he wouldn't have a Dharma jumpsuit to wear. HA!}

Back inside the hatch Charlie is still pleading with John. He tells John seriously he’s about to be detonated.
Charlie then talks to Eko, who is still working intensely on his explosives.
Charlie-"What if John's right? Maybe it's just some colossal joke. Just some old computer connected to nothing. Maybe it's a bunch of wires that…"
Eko rips off Charlie's belt and throws it against the Wall/magnet!
Eko- “Is that a joke?”
Charlie sees himself out and takes his belt too.
Eko tells John “This is your last chance to end this. Open the door and I will forgive you.”
Locke- “Forgive me for what?”
Eko blesses himself. Charlie, still in the hatch, begs Eko to wait and tries to talk him out of it. Tells him it's not a good idea, they're in a very confined area. Eko lights the fuse with Dharma matches. Charlie runs! The TNT blows!
{Flash}
Desmond wakes up to the sound of the alarm.
He calls out for Kelvin, enters the code in the computer resetting it. Desmond hears a voice coming from another hatch in the ground of the computer room. It’s drunk Kelvin under the computer room with a key.
Desmond goes down there.
We see Caution System Termination, failsafe key.
Kelvin is swinging the key on its chain like a pendulum, says he couldn't do it. He tells Desmond this is the only other way out partner. Failsafe, “Turn this key and this all goes away. Poof."
Desmond asks what's behind that wall, “What was the incident?”
Kelvin- "Electromagnetism. Geologically unique. The incident {he snorts a laugh) there was a leak. So now the charge builds up and every time we push the button, it discharges it. Before it gets too big. “
Desmond- "Why make us do it, push the button? If we could just…"
Kelvin laughs, "Here's the real question Desmundo. Do you have the courage to take your finger out of the dam? Blow the whole thing up instead?"
{Eko is at least willing to blow up something. LOL}

Live Together Die Alone Part 2.

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

The Variable.

Let's talk about LOST!    The Variable.
(Click the pics)

The paramedics wheel Desmond on a stretcher into the hospital. “He’s coding.”
Gunshot wound; he’s crashing.
A doctor instructs them to put him in Bay 7. {ER BAYS}
Penny holds young Charlie. She’s scared for Des, but tells Charlie, “He’s gonna be okay.”
In the waiting room {TV on} Penny rubs sleeping Charlie's head/hair.
Ms. Hawking asks, “How old is your son?”
He’s two.
Ms. Hawking smiles and remarks, “He has his father’s hair.” {Really.} Penny asks if she’s knows her. Eloise Hawking says "No", but Penny’s husband knows her.  She believes it’s her sons fault that Desmond has been shot.
Penny wonders, “Your son is Benjamin Linus?”
Good lord, no! Her son is Daniel Faraday.

THIRTY YEARS EARLIER

Night on the "Island":
Dan arrives via the sub back to the "Island.”
Miles gives him a hand with his suitcase; he is surprised to see him.
Dan-“Hey, Miles. Long time no see.”
Dan is wearing a black/dark Dharma jumpsuit, no tie.  On the dock, Cheng tells the group they all know why they’re here, “I wish you all could get a good night's sleep but, uh…The shuttle will pick you up at the Motor Pool.”
Miles whispers, asking him what he’s doing back here. He figured once Dan left for Ann Arbor he got rich, invented the DVD or something. Dan shows him a Photostat copy of the Dharma recruit group photo; That’s why he’s back.  Miles says the group came back a few days ago. Miles proceeds with the story of their arrival but Dan cuts him off, “I don’t have time. I need you to take me to Jack’s right now.”

Inside Jack’s dark house, there’s a knock at the door. Jack opens the door to daylight, Dan and Miles.
Dan immediately questions him on how did he get back, how did he do it.
Jack- “Whoa. Where have you been?”
Dan reveals he was just at Dharma headquarters in Ann Arbor doing some research. More important, Dan needs to know how Jack got back “here. To 1977.”
Jack, who still seems disorientated from just waking up, asks Miles what’s going on.
Miles- “Don’t look at me. I just carried his luggage.”
Jack shares with Dan, “Uh…We were on a plane, and then…”
Dan-“Who told you to get on a plane?”
Jack- “As a matter of fact, Dan, it was your mother.”
Dan asks how she convinced him. Dan with distaste asks, “Did she tell you it was your destiny?”
Yep. That’s exactly what she told him.
Dan has some bad news for Jack, “You don’t belong here at all. She was wrong.”

A boy with braces on his teeth plays piano. The metronome clicks, keeping time/tempo.
Mom comes into the room looking troubled.
Dan asks his mom what’s wrong, “Didn’t you like it?”
She loved it; it was beautiful. Mom pulls up a chair to have a chat. The metronome still clicks away. Mom asks if he knows what destiny means. The boy doesn’t know.  She explains destiny means that if one has a special gift that it must be nurtured. She stops the metronome, “How many beats has that metronome counted since you started playing?”
Dan- “864.”
Apparently Dan’s gift is his mind; a mind that is meant for science and mathematics.
Mom- “And it’s my…job, to keep you on your path. So unfortunately, there’s no more time for distractions.”
Dan wants to keep playing the piano; he can do both.
Dan-“I can make time.”
Mom-“If only you could.”
She closes the lid on the piano keyboard.

Dan needs Miles to bring him to the Orchid. Jack comes out of his house half in/half out of his Dharma jumpsuit, asking Dan what he meant by his mother was wrong. Miles conveniently pulls always as Dan tells Jack he just has an errand to run, he’ll be right back.
Jack knocks on LaFleur’s door and tells him Faraday’s back.
Sawyer/LaFleur with a gun, asks, “What do you mean Faraday’s back. Why?”
Jack doesn’t have any idea, “He came in on the sub, he woke me up… he started talking nonsense and then he took off to the Orchid."
Sawyer would love to trade theories about this, but he’s a little busy right now. Jack wants to know what has him so busy at 6am. Juliet prompts James to tell Jack.
LaFleur reveals to Jack that Phil, one of his security guys, got himself a video tape of him and Kate taking the kid out to the Hostiles. The tape is with Phil and Phil is tied up and gagged on the floor of James’ closet. {Like Hurley was.} James introduces Phil and Jack; all the while Phil is struggling to speak through the gag. Then James closes the door on Phil again.

Sitting in the Jeep at the Orchid work site, Dan looks through his journal of notes. Workers are busy building.
Miles asks Dan, “Are we waiting for something?” {Note construction sounds} A Dharma van pulls up with Cheng.
Dan-“Right on time.” {Did he know that from his notes?} Dan tells Miles he’ll be back in 10
minutes.

Dan reads through notes in the elevator on his way down to the Orchid. At the bottom he puts the journal inside his jumpsuit.  He observes Cheng having a heated discussion with the foreman about not drilling even 1 centimeter further because they risk releasing the energy. If that were to happen, “God help us all.
A dude tells Faraday he needs a hardhat down here. With that, Cheng takes off his hardhat while Dan puts one on. Dan takes a tank {to use as a prop} carries it on his shoulder. He bumps right into Cheng who yells, “Watch yourself!
Dan keeps his head down and apologizes; it won’t happen again. {Will it or wont it? Hmmm} Dan strolls over to where the foreman and the medics with the dead guy on the stretcher.
The foreman asks Dan, “Did you hear that? Time travel. How stupid does that guy think we are?
Dan runs over to talk to Cheng; he removes his hardhat. Dan tells Cheng he just came off the sub with the Swan team, “We actually met three years ago. I’m Daniel Faraday.”
Cheng remembers him arriving with LaFleur. Dan needs him to order the evacuation of every man, woman and child on this island. He goes on to explain, “That man is on a stretcher as a consequence of the electromagnetic activity that your drilling unleashed down here.”
Cheng- “Which is now contained.”    {Desmond is on a stretcher too.}
They both get on the elevator.
Dan tells him it’s contained down here, “But in about six hours the same thing is gonna happen at the site for the Swan Station, only the energy there is about thirty thousand times more powerful, Sir. And the accident it’s gonna be catastrophic.”
Cheng basically laughs it off, “That’s utterly absurd. What can possibly qualify you to make that kind of prediction?”
Dan proclaims, “I’m from the future.”  {Not, "I'm a physicist"!}

Cheng walks ahead of Dan while Dan walks with his nose in his journal. Dan wants him wait and take a look at his notes. Cheng mocks his “being from the future. You heard me talking about time travel, now you’ve had your fun. Good for you.”
Dan begs him to look at his journal. Dan shows him the equations, some that won’t be discovered for another 20 years. Miles sees where Dan is going with the conversation and jumps in to derail it. He tells Dan to leave the man alone and tells Cheng, “I think he had too many drugs on the sub…”
Dan informs Cheng, “Miles is your son.”
{Cheng doesn’t seem all that impressed with that news. Maybe it’s just me}
Dan- “Think about it. A Chinese man named Miles, the same name as your baby, shows up with me from the future. You, you really think this is all coincidence? ”  {It’s a good thing Dan knows baby Miles is born already. After all, he’s been gone for three years. Humpf.}
Cheng calmly asks Miles, “Is this true?”
Agitated Miles says, no. That seems good enough for the good Doctor. Cheng wants Dan to stay away from him. Cheng leaves. Dan still wants Cheng’s attention.
Miles- “Hey. Are you outta your mind? What are you doing?”
Dan is just making sure his father does what he’s supposed to do.
Miles asks,”And what’s that?”
Dan- “You’ll see.” {WTF?!!}

Mrs. Hawking waits outside for Dan; he has just graduated. Dan introduces Theresa to her. Snooty Hawking couldn’t care less. Mom smiles at her son, “Well done, Daniel.”
Mom thought they could celebrate his accomplishment with lunch. There’s a nice restaurant nearby; she reserved a table. Happy Dan says, “We’d love to.”
But mom was hoping it could just be the two of them. Hawking hopes Theresa understands, as she doesn’t get to see her son very often.
Theresa understands, “It’s OK, Dan. Really.”  {Was that Charlotte’s voice?!!!}

Dan and his nasty hair join mom for lunch at an Indian restaurant. {Note Ganesha statue: remover of obstacles.}
Dan is bothered by his mother being rude to his girlfriend, Theresa. Eloise didn’t think she was. Mom won’t acknowledge her as his girlfriend, “She is your research assistant. You should be focusing your energies on your work.” That is what’s important.
Dan feels mom has made it abundantly clear, “Why would I waste my gift on a woman?”
Eloise is sorry to tell him, but he won’t have time for a relationship. The women in his life will only be terribly hurt. {Like mom
This shocks Dan, “What does that mean?”
Evidently his work will always come first. Hurt Dan feels that’s because she’s pushed him to do that. “You pushed and you pushed and you pushed. And when will it be enough, Mother? When?” Obviously feeling that he can’t please his mother, he tells her he’s the youngest Doctorate to ever graduate from Oxford, he just received a 1.5. million pound research grant, “What else do I have to do?”
She seems pleased with the grant; she asks who the grant is from.   Dan doesn’t know, “Some industrialist. Widmore, I think. Charles Widmore.”
They’re silent for a few seconds. Eloise doesn’t want to fight with him; that’s not why she came. She came to congratulate him. {See the bunny through the glass!} She gives him a wrapped gift box,Good luck, Daniel. I do hope you know that I mean that.”
She leaves.
Dan opens the gift; it is a journal.

At LaFleur’s house, they’re holding a meeting. James takes the walkie, pulls up a chair to chat with the group, “Alright people. Party’s over.”
He knows the rest of them just showed up, but for them it’s been their home for the past three years. He makes loving eye contact with Juliet. That last thing he wants to do is leave; but he feels they “aint got no choice.”
Hurley asks about the dude in the closet, “I thought he worked for you. Can’t you convince him that it was all-like-a misunderstanding?”
James punched the guy in the face, he can’t say his fist just slipped.
Kate asks, “How much time do we have before someone realizes he’s gone?”
James- “Not enough.”
So, where do they go?
James tells him they only have two options, “We can either commandeer the sub, get the hell off this island before anyone knows we’re gone. Or we can head back in the jungle, start from square one.”
Jin is not getting on that sub if there’s a chance his wife is on this island
Hurley-“Yeah, me neither. After all we did to get back here and now we’re just gonna run off again. It seems kinda wishy washy.”
James counts that as two votes for square one. There’s knock at the door; the guest knocks many times.
James- “Hold your horses. Be right there.”
He hides his gun behind his back and answers the door. It’s Dan and Miles.
Dan- “Hey, James.”
James welcomes Twitchy to the meeting, “Good to see you again. Pound cake’s in the kitchen, help yourself to the punch.”
James whispers to Miles, “He still crazy?”
Miles-“It’s on a whole other level, man.”
Dan apologizes to Jack for being rude before, but explains that what he came to do is of “critical importance to everyone in this room.“

Dan asks, “Does anyone know where I can find the Hostiles?” {Aren’t you looking right at them?!} Watch James’ face. Juliet asks why he needs to know that. Dan hesitates for a second,then admits one of them is his mother, “And she is the only person on this island who can get us back to where we belong.

The haunting footage of the Christian 1 is being watched by crying Dan. The caretaker asks Dan how he wants his eggs.

The news is reporting the discovery of missing flight Oceanic 815, found by a salvage vehicle in the depths of the Sunda Trench. She asks why he’s so upset.
Dan- “I don’t know.”
There’s a knock at the door. He has a visitor. Widmore says hello to Daniel. Fragile Dan apologizes, “I’m sorry sir…I don’t….Did Caroline tell you I have a condition affects my memories…Just …”
Widmore doesn’t want him to feel embarrassed,We’ve never met.”
Charles introduces himself.
Dan starts to remember this is Charles from his research grant. He offers Dan a seat. On the couch Widmore picks up a copy of a WIRED magazine {The Impossible Gets Real. The super power issue, time travel, X-ray vision, Invisibility.} Dan notes the mess. Dan meant to thank Widmore before he left Oxford
Widmore corrects him, “You mean before you were dismissed.”
Dan gets very emotional, “I tested it…I tested it on myself first. I would never hurt Theresa.” Widmore tells him it’s alright, “That’s not why I’m here. I came to offer you a new opportunity.” Dan is sorry but he can’t, “I don’t think I can…”
The plane on the TV catches his attention and this really chokes him up. Widmore asks if he said something to upset him. Dan whispers, it’s this plane crash, “I don’t know why it’s bothering me so much. It’s just so sad. They’re dead.”
Widmore sees his pain, “Daniel, what if I told you, they’re not dead. What if I told you, the plane was a fake. An elaborate, expensive fake.”
Dan is stunned, “How would you know that?”
Widmore admits he put it there
Dan- “Why would you tell me that?”
Widmore knows come tomorrow, Dan won't remember he did. Dan looks confused. Widmore goes on to tell him the real Oceanic flight 815 crashed on a special island with unique scientific properties. “I want to send you to the island. It will further your research. Show you things you’d never dream of. But more importantly, it will heal you, Daniel. Your mind, your memory.” Dan fills with hope, “Heal me?”
Widmore is doing all this for him because Dan is a man of tremendous gifts and it would be a shame to see them go to waste
Dan chuckles, “You sound like my mother.”
Widmore smiles, “That’s because we’re old friends.”
Dan looks confused.

LaFleur-“Your mother is an Other.”
Dan comments that he met her when the island was skipping back in 1954; they were calling her Ellie
Hurley is baffled, “You guys were in 1954. Like Fonzie times?”
Juliet wants to know why he still needs to find her. Dan just needs to talk to her. James is getting worked up. He is going by what Dan has always said; Lay low, whatever happened, happened. James isn’t telling Dan where to find her unless he wants to share what it is he’s doing. Jack interjects in Dan’s defense. “He said he can get us back to where we belong. Whether we go on the sub or we head back into the junglewe don’t belong here.”
James belonged there just fine “until you came back, Doc”
Jack turns to Kate for direction to the Hostiles, “Can you get us back out there?”
James doesn’t want her to say a word. Jack brings up the promise he had to make to Kate about not ever asking about Aaron or why she came back here, but he knows that reason isn’t here. It’s not now.”
James feels it doesn’t matter what her reason is. Her helping H.G. Wells find his mommy has nothing to do with it. James compassionately says, “Come with us Freckles.”
This hits a nerve with Juliet, but she doesn’t miss a beat, she gives the code for the fence to Kate. “1 4 1 7 1 7. You should take Daniel. It’s over here for us anyway.”
James looks stunned and disappointed. {What’s over here?!} Kate and Jack will go.
Dan asks Miles to drive them. Miles doesn’t say a word, he just tosses the keys to Dan.
James tells them, “When you realize you’ve made a huge mistake, we’ll be back at the beach. Right where we started.”
James instructs the rest to pack anything they can carry; meet back there in 20 minutes. He holds out his hand for Juliet to take, he whispers,Time to go.”
Juliet is very sad.

Kate tells Jack these people are not gonna be happy to see them, so she suggests bringing guns from the safe at the Motor Pool, but it’s locked. It’s a good thing Jack’s a janitor, he has keys! Something catches Dan’s attention. {His jumpsuit says-Joe Construction} He walks over to a little red haired girl on a swing; eating a candy bar. She tells Dan, “I’m not allowed to have chocolate before dinner.”
Dan is moved. He reassures Sweetheart its okay, “I won’t tell.”
She introduces herself.
Dan gets emotional, “I’m new here. Listen. Do you know Dr. Cheng?...Hopefully really soon Dr. Cheng is gonna ask a bunch of people to get on the submarine and leave the island. When he does, you and your mommy…you’re gonna have to leave. In case what I do doesn’t work, you cannot be here, you have to leave. I tried to avoid telling you this, I didn’t think I could change things, but maybe I can…”
Charlotte is getting teary eyed.

Jack and Kate take guns and a first aid kit from the gun locker. How long it takes them to get there depends on if they take the road with the pylons, but once they’re in their territory they have to go on foot. Kate gives Dan a rifle, but he wants something for a beginner
{Check out Kate and Jacks look
A Dharma van pulls up. Kate gives Dan a gun that’s “ready to go.”
Radzinsky wants to know what’s going on here, “Aren’t you one of the physicists off the sub?” Radzinsky says Dan’s supposed to be out at the Swan site. Dan fumbles through a story about there being “an accident at the Orchid Station, Dr. Cheng asked us to help. So…”
Radzinsky yells out, “Hey. He’s got a gun!”
They all draw their weapons. Radzinsky just left Cheng; he’s at home with his wife and baby. He knows Dan’s lying so he demands the three drop their guns and get down on the ground.
Dan- “Hey. Listen. Listen. You really don’t understand what’s happening here. You have no idea. We have no time. We have to leave, alright? So we’re just gonna leave.”
There’s a shoot out! Dan gets grazed on the neck. Radzinsky’s hit in the left hand. The shoot out goes on, yet Kate feels they can make it to the jeep. {WTF?!
Jack will cover Kate and Dan. Jack blows up a fuel barrel and makes it to the jeep. As they drive off, one dude shoots out the windshield. Bloody Radzinsky yells, “SOUND THE ALARM!

Grown Dan plays the piano. {Metronome not clicking.} He still can’t get through the song. He seems to get stuck and this frustrates and disappoints him. Eloise comes in.

Dan asks, “When did you get here?”
Eloise-“Oh, I just arrived. I would have called you but…”
Apparently Dan would have forgotten anyway. She heard he was offered a job; she knows because it’s her business to know. Eloise came here to tell him it’s very important to say yes to Mr. Widmore; that he accepts this opportunity. Fragile Dan feels he can’t because Widmore needs someone who can do really, really complex space-time calibrations and calculate bearings and Dan doesn’t know how to do that anymore. Eloise wants Dan to know that this place/island Widmore mentioned to Dan can make him better. “What if it's true? Why, then you could go on with your work. Just think of all you could accomplish.”
Dan-“You really want me to go?”
YEP!
Dan asks like a little boy, “Will it make you proud of me?”
Eloise takes a deep breath, smiles and says, yes, it will. She waits for his answer. Dan emotionally torn, thinks.
Finally he tells her he’ll do it.

Jack asks Kate if she remembers the code. Yep, she got it. Kate disarms the fence. {It makes a winding down sound.} Jack tends to Dan’s neck; tells him he’s gonna be fine.

Dan- “Guess I’m lucky.”
Jack asks what luck has to do with it, after all Dan said what ever happened, happened. Dan tells Jack he’s gotta understand, “This is our present. When we met did I have a scar on my neck? No. Cause I hadn’t been shot yet. We can’t be so naive as to think nothing can happen to us. Any one of us can die, Jack.”
Jack looks at Kate. {Come on, he wasn’t shot, just grazed!! He hadn’t been shot yet, but will be, and not in the neck either!} Kate announces the fence is off. They still have to go a couple of miles in. {HA! A couple of Miles!!} Dan looks at his watch. Kate watches Dan and asks Jack if he thinks Dan knows what he’s doing
Jack hopes so, “There’s no turning back now.”

Gagged- tied up
Phil is banging on the closet door while Juliet and James pack for the beach. {How much shit are you gonna bring to the beach?! lol} James acknowledges that Juliet “called it the moment those Yahoo’s got here. I shoulda listened to you.”  She doesn’t say anything.
James- “You can say I told you so.”
Juliet- “Maybe after we get to the beach.” She’s mad. He asks her if she still got his back. Juliet, “You still got mine?”
A “pulse buzz” alarm is sounding.

Outside Hurley with his guitar case and Jin see Radzinsky and his men armed with guns

Hurley- “That’s not good, right?”
Jin says something in Korean. Shot Radzinksy barges into LaFleur’s house asking where he’s been. Whoa, whoa, whoa…He tells Stu to take it easy, “What’s going on?”
Stu shows him his hand, “I just got shot by a physicist! And the new recruits are helping him. We’ve been infiltrated.” {Best line of the episode!!!} James thinks that ridiculous. They hear a thud. James, in an effort to distract where the sound really came from says the sound came from outside. That didn’t work. Stu opens the closet finds Phil. Stu points his gun at James and Juliet and orders him to get down on the ground.

Kate leads the two men to the stream; they rest and grab some water. Jack remarks on Dan having to need a gun to go talk to his mother

Dan remarks, “You don’t know my mother, Jack.”
Jack asks if Dan’s ready to tell him why she was wrong, “why they don’t belong here.”
Kate walks away. Dan explains to Jack that in about four hours the Dharma folks at the Swan work site are gonna drill into the ground and accidentally tap into a massive pocket of energy. {Kate hands Jack a canteen} The result of the release of this energy will be catastrophic. In order to contain it they’re gonna have to cement the entire area in, like Chernobyl. And this containment, the place they built over it, “I believe you called it the Hatch, the Swan Hatch… because of this one accident, these people are gonna spend the next 20 years keeping that energy at bay… by pressing a button. A button that your friend Desmond will one day fail to push and that will cause your plane, Oceanic 815 to crash on this island. {Was it supposed to LAND on Hydra Island?} And because your plane crashed the freighter will be sent to this island, a freighter I was on and Charlotte was on and so forth. This entire chain of events, it's gonna start happening this afternoon. But... we can change that. I studied relativistic physics my entire life. One thing emerged over and overcan't change the past. Can't do it. Whatever happened, happened. Alright? But then I finally realized... I had been spending so much time focused on the constants, I forgot about the variables. Do you know what the variables in these equations are, Jack?”
Nope, Doctor Jack doesn’t know.
Dan-”Us. We're the variables. People. We think. We reason. We make choices. We have free will. We can change our destiny. I think I can negate that energy under the Swan. I think I can destroy it. If I can, then that hatch will never be built, and your plane... your plane will land, just like it's supposed to, in Los Angeles.”
Kate asks how he plans on destroying this energy
Dan proclaims he’s gonna detonate a Hydrogen Bomb. {Yeah, cause that’s better.}

Night at the Marina Medical Center Long Beach… {Over the P.A.-Satellite Pharmacy} Penny is surprised Hawking’s son is Daniel Faraday; the man who sent Desmond to Los Angeles to find her. Eloise with tears in her eyes came to apologize to Penelope. “Your husband has become a casualty in a conflict that’s bigger than him, that’s bigger than any of us.”
She doesn’t know if Desmond will be okay because for the first time in a long timeI don’t know what’s going to happen next.”
A nurse comes in for Ms. Hume to tell her Desmond is in the recovery room and asking for her. He’s doing fine. “Come with me. This nurse will watch your son.”
Eloise hurries out.
Penny enters Desmond’s room. Penny shares she thought she lost him.
Desmond-“I promised you, Penny. I promised you. I’d never leave you again.” They kiss.

Eloise is about to get in a cab and hears… Charles asks, “Is he all right?”

She tells him yes, he’s fine. This pleases Charles. Eloise with an attitude tells him his daughter’s in there, why don’t he go in and say hello. Charles explains unfortunately his relationship with Penelope is one of the things he had to sacrifice. Eloise doesn’t him to talk to her about sacrifice, “I had to send my son back to the island knowing full well that...”  Charles cuts her off, “He’s my son too, Eloise.”
She slaps his face and gets in a cab.

On their trek Kate feels this is a mistake. Dan’s talking about erasing everything that’s ever happened to us, Jack. It’s insane.”

Jack-”We disappeared off a plane in mid air and ended up in 1977. I’m getting kinda used to insane.”
We hear a man in the camp say “Well, That should be enough.”
Dan checks out the Hostiles village and says, “Wish me luck.”
He heads in with his gun. A Hostile reaches for his gun and Dan fires two shots. Nobody move, he only wants to speak to Eloise. He asks where she is.
Richard appears and says, “She’s not here right now. Do we know each other?”
Dan-”It doesn’t matter. I need you to take me to Eloise.”
Richard insists she’s not there
Dan asks where is the Hydrogen bomb that he told them to bury. {Where’s Eloise? Where’s the bomb?
Richard tries to calm Dan down, “Don’t do this.”
Dan- “I’m gonna give you three seconds. One…Two…”
A shot is fired! {Watch Richard} Dan is hit
Richard freaks, “Why did you do that?”
Eloise- “He had a gun on him.”
Richard- “He wasn’t gonna shoot me, Eloise.”
Dan gasping looking at Eloise, “You knew. You always knew. You knew this was gonna happen. You sent me here anyway.”
Eloise -”Who are you?
Dan- “I’m your son.”

The Variable is a GREAT EPISODE!!! Who is the variable? Dan, Eloise, Juliet, Jack, Desmond? Who?!  The "parental units" of these Losties are totally DISCONNECTED!  They aren't there to nurture.  The parents have a "job" to keep the kids on a certain predetermined path. That's NOT parenting, that’s coaching and guiding.
Are some of these parents biologically related or are they just a proxy, a substitute?

Things to Note...Questions to ask...
* WRONG
* Sleep. Dream.
* Emotional disconnects. Parental Disconnect. Metronome Disconnect.
* Who are biological parents to these kids?
* Are these kids bred/created for a specific purpose? What about the "parents"? Are they a hybrid of some sort? {Yeah, human and alien. Bot. lol}  Perfect people…Super Hero’s… Soldiers….What??? Seems they're just lost people, people who feel like they don’t belong and can’t find their way.
* Mad scientists. Journal of researched notes, script, play book or a strategy guide?
* Doctors, medics, paramedics. Mental health. Mind. Crazy. Drugs. Memory. Amnesia. Forget. Condition.
* Dan-No tie. No mental/memory issues for him on the island in the 1970’s.

* Dan is a "Doctor".   Jack is a "Doctor".
* The age difference of Eloise as a Hostile Other and her Math/Science rearing self, isn’t too far apart. So, when did she leave the “Island” and when was Dan born?
* Watching. Guiding. Rearing. Coaching. Making sure things are put into play and kept on the path.
* Just as Desmond tried to "change" things in his flashes he still ended up on the island. We'll have to see if Dan's sacrifice was able to change anything. Actually up to this point Eloise shooting him was part of the plan.
* WIRED. Are they wired? Are their heads/brains wired to something? Maybe are they "high".
* Code. Crash. Variable. Yahoo. Sounds like computers.

* Linage. Siblings. DNA. Breeding. (With whom/what?)
* Super Powers.
* Music and mathematics are strongly intertwined. Dan could not "connect" with the metronome, but with Sun she was outright out of tempo with it.
* Dan went back to the “outside world” and it was the 70’s?
* Ellie and Libby are names derived from Elizabeth.
* Why doesn't Faraday have a British accent? Why is his last name Faraday
* Everyone is still lying and playing games.
* Hints to Hindu and Buddhism. Enlightenment.
* I heard grown Charlotte's voice.

* We only get the Thirty Years Earlier time cue once in this episode.
* Is Dan's "gift" his brilliant mind or just the journal?

Vocabulary and Research...
* A bay is an area of water bordered by land on three sides. Bays generally have calmer waters than the surrounding sea, due to the surrounding land blocking some waves and often reducing winds.
* Sick bay, nautical term for the location in a ship that is used for medical purposes.
* Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time. Common elements of music are pitch (which govern melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts temp, meter and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek, "(art) of the Muses.”    12 Notes in the Chromatic Scale, each a half step apart. Timbre/time-beats per measure/bars.
* Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles.
* A variable is a symbol that stands for a value that may vary; the term usually occurs in opposition to constant, which is a symbol for a non-varying value, i.e. completely fixed or fixed in the context of use. The concepts of constants and variables are fundamental to all modern mathematics, science, engineering, and computer programming.
- To vary. -to change with time.
- Not to remain constant.
-In statistics, variables refer to measurable attributes, as these typically vary over time or between individuals. Variables can be discrete (taking values from a finite or countable set),continuous (having a continuous distribution function), or neither. Temperature is a continuous variable, while the number of legs of an animal is a discrete variable. This concept of a variable is widely used in the natural, medical and social sciences. There is also a Dummy variable.
-Quasi-independent variables, which are used by researchers to group things without affecting the variable itself. Example- to separate people into groups by their sex does not change whether they are male of female. Or a researcher may separate people, arbitrarily, on the amount of coffee they had drunk before beginning an experiment. The researcher cannot change the past, but can use it to split people into groups.

* Anterograde amnesia- is a loss of memory of what happens after the event that caused the amnesia; it is different from retrograde amnesia, where memories prior to the event are forgotten. The disease is usually acquired in one of two ways: it is either drug-induced (benzodiazepines such as midazolam, flunitrazepam, diazepam, triazolam and nimetazepam are known to have powerful amnesic effects), or it follows a traumatic brain injury in which there is usually damage to the hippocampus or surrounding cortices. Patients who suffer from anterograde amnesic syndromes may present with widely varying degrees of forgetfulness. In the case that the amnesia is drug-induced, it may be short-lived and patients can recover from it.
* Sacrifice is also used metaphorically to describe a number of plays in games.

* Sacrifice in Baseball- Sacrifice fly.

I have to say there are way too many instances of us seeing someone having NO I.D./Identity; Blank Slates.  Are these lost, ill, lonely, hurt, scared, abandoned, neglected, needing to be rehabilitated, special people made new on this “Island”?
Are they "time traveling" or are they in a different dimension, another "plane", another world?
They could be in a "Cyber World", whether it's for the purpose of healing someone or a game being played by rich men watching from the “Looking Glass”.

If the “game” element is part of the story then again I feel that either whomever is getting to close to the truth, finds what they're looking for, getting to close to whomever is in the lead {to unseat} or in charge, or is the games sacrificial move, then are they just removed from the playing field or game board.
If they are in some sort of Cyber environment having these experiences played out in their minds/consciousness, I am brought to Ajira Airways {Which means Island.} Go to ajiraairways.com and tell me what you see.   Maybe Ajira is sending lost people on the ride of their lives. The adventure they need to find themselves. I'm just throwing it out there.

Faraday, his gift and his memory or lack there of... Is his condition due to his experiments or was he born this way? Perhaps he is afflicted with Savant syndrome or is a prodigious savant.
That brings me to the “all knowing”  Richard. How come he never immediately admits to remembering people he's met via "time traveling" back and forth?

So I need to ask, was the "Island" done with Faraday? Or was he a sacrifice in the game?
Is someone the "Bug" in the system?!

And...can you "erase" the past? I think you know the answer to that. But a computer can erase information and data.
Well, if the Island heals what ails ya, put me on a plane and let me experience it too. After all we are part of the experiment. Aren't we all part of the virtual aspect of this experience?

If you'd like to see if there are ties to The Constant,  or go to the drop down menu and check out my posted notes.
Special thanks to The ODI for the Wired image.

Love to all who are “LOST” ™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right.The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin!I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.
