Ab Aeterno

Let's talk about LOST!   Ab Aeterno.

The episode opens with Ilana's eye.   Jacob visits bandaged Ilana; apparently they know each other a long time.  He's giving her a list of the remaining candidates.   {Jacob already knew he needed a replacement.}
{Flash Whoosh-the opening moments go back and forth to the beach}
Ilana doesn't know what to do next.  {The scene switches to un-bandaged Ilana in the hospital}  "After I brought them to the temple...what do I do?"
Jacob tells her to ask Ricardus; he'll know what to do.
{Scene back on the beach.} The castaways learn that Richard is Ricardus.
Richard laughs and mentions that he was trying to kill himself when Jack found him.
He reveals a secret to Jack, "You're dead".   Literally not figuratively.
He's known for a long time that all this isn't what they think it is; they aren't on an island, never were. They're in hell.  He's very angry and adamant about Jacob being a liar; he suggests listening to someone else and he heads off.
Richard marches through the dark jungle with his torch.

Ilana wants to go after Richard because Jacob told her Richard "has to know" what to do next.
Jack feels Richard has lost his mind and thinks we're in hell.    If he cared about what Jacob said he wouldn't care about talking to someone else.
Richard is going to Locke but the gang knows Locke is dead.  Ben informs them the consolation it's not exactly Locke.

Hurley is speaking Spanish to an invisible person
Jack asks Hurley "What's he saying?"   Jack says he saw Hurley talking to Jacob.
Hurley says he's not talking to Jacob.
Jack- "Don't lie to me. Please, if you know any something, anything that can help us..."
Hurley insists it's not Jacob and it has nothing to do with Jack.
Miles is watching Hurley and Jack.
Ben tells Ilana that Shephard is right about Richard; going after him is a waste of time, "He doesn't know anything."

Richard continues to make his way through the jungle.

Ben shares with the group the thing that makes him so sure that Richard doesn't know anything is that he's known him since he was 12 years old that should count for something
Frank remarks, "So guys met when you were kids, huh?"
Ben clarifies that he was a kid and Richard looked just like he does today.  Ben is saying this guy doesn't age.
Frank-"And how the hell do ya think that happened?"
Confused and lost Richard still carries his torch walking through the dark jungle.
{No Flash Whoosh/Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}

Tenerife, Canary Islands.  1867

Ricardo rides on horseback to a house.  Isabella is sick, coughing up blood and dying.  Ricardo tells her to go back to sleep and kisses her forehead.  She's burning up so he puts a cloth on her forehead.
He wants to hurry to get the doctor; God willing he'll be back by dawn.   He grabs whatever coins he has, praying they have enough.  Isabella gives him her beloved cross to give to the doctor as well.  He takes it along.
Emotional Ricardo feels if anything ever happened to her...
Isabella and Ricardo share deep love.
Isabella- "Close your eyes  {He does} We'll always be together."
She kisses him while he keeps his eyes closed seemingly with happy thoughts.
Ricardo proclaims, "I will save you."    {He must have a case of the Jack Shephard's. lol}
Isabella clutches a black covered book as Ricardo braves the stormy night on horseback.

The Doctor is eating.
The butler yells from the front door,  "You can't some in! You can't be here!"
Ricardo walks right in and pleads with the hungry doctor, as he couldn't wait because his wife is sick, to which the cold hungry doc suggests blankets, not for Ricardo, but because Ricardo is dripping water all over his floor.
Ricardo pleads for his help and the selfish doctor won't take the half a day journey in the pouring rain.  But he has very expensive medicine that can save her life.   The doctor unlocks a cabinet retrieving the medicine.   Ricardo pours out all the coins he has and when that is  not enough he adds Isabella's cross to the pot.
Ricardo-"Now you have everything."
The doctor says it's worthless and tosses it aside.  This upsets Ricardo and he scrambles to pick it up.  He begs the Doc to let him work off the debt.   When the doctor won't go for it Ricardo tugs on him, pleading, until things take a turn that cause Ricardo to push the doctor; making him hit his head on the table.   The man with the blankets sees Ricardo.
Ricardo had the small cork topped bottle of medicine {Which he technically paid money for} and runs off; riding off into the dark stormy night.

Ricardo arrives back home. {Still dark out. Half a day journey-twice and yet those candles are still burning! lol}
Isabella has passed. {Eyes open.}   He listens for her heartbeat and breaks down crying.

Cuffed Ricardo sits in a jail reading the bible. {Luke 4:37}  He wears Isabella's cross.   The Chaplin comes in with food but Ricardo isn't hungry.   The father notes the bible is in English.   Ricardo has been teaching himself because he and Isabella were going to travel to the new world and start a family, a new life.
Ricardo is prepared to make his confession.  He kneels downs, crosses/blesses himself, "Forgive me Father for I have sinned."   Truly repentant Ricardo begs for God's forgiveness to which the Chaplin informs him he cannot grant him absolution for murder.  This shocks Ricardo because this was an accident.  He feels there must be some way to earn God’s forgiveness.
The only way to return God's grace is through penance and Ricardo is willing to do anything.   The Chaplin smiles and scoffs at this as Ricardo doesn't have time, because tomorrow he will be hanged.  The Chaplin's afraid the devil awaits him in hell.  Ricardo is left stunned.
Ricardo looks out his cell window up at a dead tree.   {A tree symbolizes life and that one is dead. Crow caws}
Ricardo is led blindfolded
Whitfield looks at Ricardo's strong hands and in this mouth as he asks about his English speaking ability.  Ricardo also shares he works in the fields.
It’s his lucky day because Magnus Hanso will take him on a boat ride; he's Hanso's property now.   Whitfield pays the "father" for Ricardo and hopes Ricardo doesn't get seasick.
They sail the rough and stormy seas.  The chained men try to see what's outside the boat by peering through the thin wood planked walls of the ship.
“Can you see anything?”
It’s too dark.”
"There’s an island”
One prisoner sees the statue in the dark and declares it to be The Devil
"The Island is guarded by the devil!" {Oh wow! It's 'guarded by' the devil!}
Ricardo is afraid and clutches the cross around his neck.
The terrific storm causes the ship  to actually take flight, crashing into the statue breaking it apart and then ends up in the middle of the bloody jungle.

It's daylight and the survivors of the bizarre shipwreck wake up.  From down below the chained passengers all look up into the daylight calling out for help, "We're alive!"
We hear that Captain Hanso is dead.
Whitfield comes down revealing there are only 5 officers left and limited supplies so he kills the prisoners.  He tells Ricardo his actions are because if he freed him "it would only be a matter of time before you killed me".
Ricardo doesn't have the cross around his neck.
Just then the smoke monster is on deck and takes lives.
Whitfield wants to know what's going on up there and yells out to this men,  "I said report!"
He is taken by the smoke monster!
The smoke comes face to face with scared Ricardo, flashing its Flashes.   Ricardo closes his eyes and whispers {prayers}.   All of a sudden it is gone but is heard in the distance.

A blue butterfly flies into the Black Rock.
Ricardo tries desperately to remove a nail from a floor plank so he can use  it as a tool to help free himself.  It starts to rain and he tries to drink the dripping water but he can't reach it.
Weakening and tired Ricardo retrieves the nail and continues to work on freeing himself.   A hungry boar is chowing on one of the prisoners.  Ricardo tells the boar to get out of here, "I'll kill you!" and uses the nail as his only defense.  The boar speeds by causing Ricardo to drop the nail a few inches out of his reach.
Very weak Ricardo hears a woman's voice.  He tries to focus his eyes to see clearly; it's Isabella. {This seems to be 5 days later. There are 5 score marks on a post}
He wonders how she is "here".
Isabella tells him they are both dead, "We're in hell."
{Why would they be in hell?! Why is she there period?!}   She claims to be there to save him before "he" comes back; the devil.  She shares that she looked in his eyes and all she saw was evil.   She asks if he saw him too and Richard "thinks he has".

The smoke monster nears and Ricardo tells her to run; he insists he said he would save her.  "If you love me, GO!"     She heads up the stairs right into the smoke monster's path.
Ricardo breaks down.

A man with a lantern enters the dark ship, brings water/silver cups to weak and broken Ricardo.  He touches the left shoulder of unconscious Ricardo.    It's the MIB with dark eye/eyes.
Ricardo-"Who are you?"
The MIB-"A friend."
Ricardo-"I am in hell?"
MIB-"Yes, I'm afraid you are."
The man explains he was there long before "your ship".
Ricardo shares about Isabella being there and how when the black smoke came she ran and hasn't come back.
MIB seems to not be aware of her and states "It probably means he has her."
Ricardo-"Who?"
MIB-"I think you know who."   {Who? The devil?}
MIB will help him because he wants to be free too.   As  luck would have it he found keys on one of the officers outside.   He thinks they'll work, but before he tries he needs to know that Ricardo will help and will do anything he asks.   They agree, so MIB frees him from his chains

MIB complements his friend "It's good to see you out of those chains."
The MIB helps him and tells him he's going to need his strength if they're going to escape.   He also explains there's only one way to escape from hell and that's to kill the devil.
Blue eyed MIB directs Ricardo to the broken statue and where he'll find the devil.  He presents him with a fancy dagger to use to kill the devil; giving him the same instructions Dogen gave Sayid.
He also reveals he is the black smoke and claims Isabella was running from "him"  and there wasn't anything he could do to stop it.   The devil betrayed him, took his body and humanity; the devil can be very persuasive.
Ricardo knows murder is wrong and feels that's what brought him "here".
The MIB says they can continue to talk about what's right or wrong all day, but the question remains the same. Basically what will he do to see his wife again?
{The MIB leads us to believe the he/black smoke and the devil are two different beings and not one in the same.}
Emotionally torn Richard does indeed head to the broken statue on his mission and ends up getting his ass kicked by Jacob.  Jacob wonders who gave him the dagger and also claims to not know his wife.
Richard explains she didn't come on the ship and she's dead.
With that Jacob asks, "Then why are you asking me where she is?"
It is revealed Ricardo met a man dressed in black in the jungle who said Jacob was the devil.  {Watch Jacob's expression here.}
Ricardo again claims to have seen his wife in this place and Jacob says it wasn't his wife.   Ricardo blurts out she is dead just like him and he is in hell.
Jacob-"You really think you're dead?"
Ricardo-"Where else would I be?"
Jacob assures him he is not dead and proves it by forcefully submerging him the water repeatedly making him realize he had to hold his breath and bringing him up for air.
Jacob-"Why should I stop?!"
Ricardo-"Because I want to live!"
Jacob feels that's the first sensible thing he's said.
Ricardo's wet body is warmed by a gray blanket. Jacob brings over a corked bottle of wine and two silver cups.    Ricardo wonders what is inside (nods to the foot statue) and Jacob informs him "No one comes in unless I invite them in." He drinks.
Ricardo outright asks, "Are you the devil?"
Brown eyed Jacob says with a smirky smile, "No."
Ricardo-"Then who are you?"
His name is Jacob and he's the one who brought his ship to the island.   His explanation and illustration involves the use of the bottle of wine.  He demonstrates the wine as "hell/malevolence/evil/darkness" swirling around in the bottle unable to get out because if it did it would spread.  "The cork is this island, and it's the only thing keeping the darkness in....where it belongs."
He turns the bottle upside down to prove the cork's strength.
Jacob also explains that "That man who sent you to kill me believes everyone's corruptible because it's in their very nature to sin.   I bring people here to prove him wrong. And when they get here their past doesn't matter."

We learn there were many brought to the island before the black rock's arrival and those people are all dead. {Jacob delivers that news very nonchalantly}
Richard is curious that if Jacob is the one who brought them then why didn't he help them.
Jacob wanted them to help themselves.  "To know the difference between right and wrong without me having to tell them.  It's all meaningless if I have to force them to do anything. Why should I have to step in?"
Ricardo feels if Jacob won't "he/MIB will".
Blue eyed Jacob, seeming as if a light bulb went off, offers Richard a job, giving him a purpose.  The job is too "step in" because Jacob doesn't want to "step in".   He can be the representative, an intermediary between the people Jacob brings to the island and in return he will give Ricardo something.
Ricardo makes a few suggestions:  He wants his wife back, which Jacob can't do.  He asks if Jacob can absolve him of his sins so he doesn't go to hell, which Jacob can't do either. {Why? Because he's not God.}   Richard doesn't want to die, "I want to live forever."
BINGO!  "That" Jacob can do. {He touches Ricardo's right shoulder.}

Ricardo returns to the MIB {green eyes} with his mission unaccomplished.   Ricardo gives a white rock to MIB from Jacob.

MIB-"I'm sure you realize if you go with him you'll never be with your wife again.  I understand...he can be very...convincing.  But I want you to know if you ever change your mind, and I mean ever, my offer still stands.  I have something for you."
He hands him Isabella's cross; he found it on the ship.
Ricardo looks down at the cross and looks up to find the MIB has disappeared.
Ricardo buries the cross under the stone bench.  He kisses it and says goodbye to his love.
{Air plane engine/sounds-rumble}
Richard digs up the cross because he's changed his mind.
He looks up, "Are you listening to me?  I've changed my mind...I was wrong!   You said I could change my mind...You said the offer would stand...Does the offer still stand?!  Does the offer still stand!?   Does the offer still stand!?"
Hurley appears, "What offer, dude?"
He kinda followed Richard out there.
Richard yells at him to get out. "Didn't you hear what I said?  I told you people I don't know anything!  Why did you follow me?"
Hurley said his wife sent him and she's standing right next to him.  Apparently Isabella saw him dig up the cross.
Isabella tells Hurley in Spanish-"He doesn't believe you."
Hurley translates; Richard doesn't see her.
Isabella compliments his English and he replies Spanish.   Isabella wants Richard to close his eyes; it's okay because Hurley will tell him what she says.
Isabella tells him it wasn't his fault that she died, it was her time. "You've suffered enough, Ricardo."
Richard misses her and would do anything to be together.
She tells him they are already together and she kisses his cheek.
Richard cries and puts her cross around his neck and asks Hurley if something’s wrong.
Hurley mentions that she said one more thing "Something you have to do. She said you have to stop the man in black. You have to stop him from leaving the island. Cause if you don't...{Spanish}We all go to hell."   {Uh…She didn’t say that!  WTF is Hurley doing?!}
John Locke is watching this from afar

MIB sits on a log playing with a white rock and Jacob joins him.   It is evident these two are at odds but one seems to be there against his will.    As long as Jacob's alive the MIB isn't going anywhere.  The MIB's mission is to kill Jacob and anyone who replaces him.
Jacob gives him the corked bottle of wine; something to pass the time.
Jacob will see him around.
MIB-“Sooner than you think." and he smashes the bottle on the log.
Ab Aeterno is a GREAT episode!
The first thing I need to get off my chest is that these bratty boys just can't seem to get along! They should be punished! They both manipulate and con.   Although, I do believe we saw many elements that could mean the two are one in the same; two halves of a whole or opposition.

The episode drowned me in the words hell and devil so much they proved to not only be irrelevant but just plain old meaningless.
I loved that this episode kept things human.    Ricardo lost the love of his life and felt he was forsaken and abandoned by his "god".   Jacob took advantage of Richard’s vulnerability and claimed him; giving him a job and a purpose in “this place”.
But I do feel it's Richard's perspective that he is in “hell".   It's rooted in his own personal belief system of being religious.  Richard has a broken heart, lost his wife and accidentally "killed" a man...that's why he's on the "Island".   He is broken and lost.  He’s literally bearing the cross of his loss and his self imposed suffering.    Interesting that Jack doesn't think they're in hell; as a matter of fact he sounds sure of it.

So, we know they’re not on an “Island” and it isn’t “hell” and come on…it’s not a “cork” that plugs up an opening to something on a moving “Island”.

Let’s talk about hell for a second. I researched some things and agree with the problem I find with the concept of hell. It takes in four important issues.
1). That it would have to exist in the first place.
2). That only some/certain people go there.
3). That there is no escape from the depths of it.
4). It is punishment for actions displayed during lifespan on Earth.

People could only commit a finite number of sins within their lifetime, but if they went to "hell" they would suffer punishment eternally, infinitely. That's just friggin' over the top punishment. Why would Richard's God not grant truly pennant Ricardo forgiveness for a death that was clearly an accident? Why would he be punished forever for such a circumstance? Of course it’s "man" who didn't grant him time for penance. Some coincidence, huh?

Let’s be honest each castaway has sinned, but did they sin enough to bring them to float the rest of their lives on a cork?!   Now Kate blowing up her father was murder so she should float on the fucking cork.

Richard claims they’re all dead and they're not on an Island, they never were and they're in hell.  Yeah, a personal "hell" not a literal "hell", where Apollo bars don’t melt or ranch dressing doesn't need refrigeration once opened.

If these two sides are ping pong-ing their life away, trying to beat each other with their little game of "bring the lost people to the island”,  all in an effort to "see" if people know the difference between right and wrong, and one side is supposed to be a positive stimulus and the other side a negative stimulus, why the hell are neither trying to influence to better the situation?   Maybe they like the chaos that gets created on the “Island” or they need a reminder of what right and wrong really is too.   These two sides just can't seem to find balance at all.

Everybody is lying and conning each other. A conman makes the game work by making the “mark” think ideas came from them. The con exploits human characteristics victimizing individuals. Isn’t that what Jacob is doing by bringing people to the “Island”.

I want to touch on something from the past. The John Locke we see now seems to have shown himself to us in the past many, many times, but specifically in season three.
That motivated Locke showed us:
* That he was determined to get to Ben, Jacob and the sub.
* Locke pushed Mikhail into the sonic fence trying to kill him, or at least silence him for a while.
* He utilized a loophole/cheat (encouraged by Richard).
* Got Sawyer to kill Anthony Cooper {but that also enabled Sawyer to face something that he needed closure on.}
* In Man behind the Curtain Locke beats the shit out of Mikhail when he refers to John an outsider.
* John offer Ben and doesn’t drink it.

Things to note...Questions to ask...
* Jacob and MIB eye color changes brown-blue-(green). {Maybe w/different TV's it shows up different.} There is a different brown eye color for the Losties and Isabella.
* Again I must ask if Richard doesn't age why the hell would he need reading glasses?!
* Richard. Ricardo. Ricardus.
* Richard comes from a very "religious/faith" based background and that is what the "Island" played on all these "years".
* Richard was literally being "blindly" led.
* The Black Smoke doesn't kill Ricardo and returns Isabella's cross.
* Crazy. Lost mind. Somebody may have a serious case of split personality and need to pull themselves together.
* The medicine bottle was corked and the wine bottle was corked.
* Medicine. Wine/alcohol
* Some of Richard's details were just like Desmond's details. Boat journey on a stormy night, running for the Doc, pushing a man who hits his head/killing him. That's not coincidence.
* Are they all in jail or just imprisoned by their own suffering?
* We don't see MIB eat or drink. We only see Jacob with food/drink. Here the selfish doctor was eating.
* Why did one of the prisoners claim the statue/island to be the devil?
* Is it only Jacob that ever left the "Island" to recruit people?
* Sun was taught English so she could go to America.
* The “new world”.  Jin and Sun wanted to escape to America.
* Whitfield.  In The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, Locke comes across three instances with the word "field" in his travels: SouthField. Fieldcroft. Westerfield.
* Teach. Learn. Language.
* Real. Not real.
* Boar-scavenger, Butterfly, Isabella… Was it MIB? Isabella was inside the ship while the black smoke can be heard outside in the distance.
* Who would grant someone eternal life? Did Jacob literally give eternal life or did Ricardo assume it and/or ask for it? {wish} The MIB touched Ricardo too.
* 1867: The Black Rock voyage was to have begun March 22 1845
* The "Island" is guarded "by" the devil.
* Would the "devil" admit he's the devil?   No.
* Would the "devil" try to convince someone that someone else is the devil?
* Ilana is bandaged and then she's not. WTF? How was she healed? How much time passed?
* Why was Richard seeming pretty sure that Jack is dead?
* Michael told Jack and Locke that the computer wasn't what they thought it was.
* Black book/Bible.   Black smoke.
* Be careful who you think is good and who you think is bad. Things and people still aren't what you think they are.
* The very patient MIB still seems as if he wants to be free of the game.
* Is it Jacob who doesn't use the "Isabella" card again until he needed it or is there a third grand master in play?
* What is the "Island"?

Vocabulary and Research...
* Ab Aeterno (Translation) Counting from Eternal
1). Since the beginning of time. 2). (figuratively) Since a very long time ago.
* Abaddon: The Hebrew word meaning "destruction" is sometimes used as a synonym of Hell.
* Diyu is typically depicted as an underground maze with various levels and chambers, to which souls are taken after death to atone for their sins committed when they were alive.
* The Hellschreiber or Feldhellschreiber was a facsimile based teleprinter invented by Rudolf Hell. It has since been emulated on computer sound cards by amateur radio operators; the resulting mode is referred to as Hellschreiber, Feld-Hell, or simply Hell. "Hellschreiber" translates into English as "Light Writer," "Bright Writer," or "Clear Writer," and is a pun on the name of its inventor Hell (the adjective) is German for "light," the adverb is "bright."
* Cork anagrams to ROCK.
* Ab Aeterno anagrams to- Eaten Boar
* El Socorro anagrams to- Rose Color

I am so happy that the writers gave Nestor this chance to shine.  His portrayal of suffering Richard was amazing and truly engaging.

The LOST story makes total and perfect sense if you understand the metaphor of it all.  Everyone there has lost something that has caused a part of them to die.  Also part of the metaphor is to "let go" and also to let part of you/your ego to die so you can become new/reborn...to really live.
I still believe they need to face things, rid the negative and find themselves.  And when they accomplish "balance" they don't have to be in hell or in “this place” anymore...They can just walk through the escape hatch.

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good! Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance! It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

The 23rd Psalm.

Let's talk about LOST! The 23rd Psalm.

Young boys {Eko}are playing soccer in front of the church in this village. {The scene is bathed in red.} His brother Yemi is also playing. Eko wears a cross on a chain around his neck. A pickup truck with armed men up pull up to where the children are playing, gather the children up and demand the adults go away.  Small Yemi seeks the protection of his big brother.
A priest runs out of the church yelling "Don't take any more children!"  He is knocked out.  One of the drug runners grabs an old man out of the crowd of villagers and picks little Yemi to kill this old man; forcing the gun into his hands.
Eko sees that Yemi can't do it and steps in the role his brother was just given and kills the old man. {Was this an act of protecting young Yemi, or is it really Eko's nature?}
The bad man asks, "What's your name, boy? What's your name, boy?" {Yeah, that's an echo. lol}
Quiet Eko replies, "Eko."
The impressed bad man tells the crowd to look at Mr. Eko, "No hesitation. A born killer. Come... {rips the cross from Eko's neck and throws it on the ground.} You won't need that anymore."
Eko leaves with them. Yemi picks up the cross.
{Were their given roles just reversed? Was it supposed to be Yemi that was to be taken by the bad guys? Just a thought.}
{Flash Whoosh}
At the beach Eko sits carving scripture into his Jesus stick.
Claire walks over with Aaron and asks what he is writing.

Eko-"Things I need to remember."
Claire sits with him, "So you're Eko, huh?"

She introduces herself and Aaron to him.
Eko inquires why she chose it (name- baby Aaron).
Claire just liked it.
Eko shares that Aaron was the brother of Moses; Aaron was a great man. Claire feels being the brother of Moses must have been tough to live up to.
Eko explains Moses had great difficulty speaking so he spoke for Moses.
Claire-"So you're religious, huh? {Eko doesn't respond} You should speak to Charlie. He doesn't want to admit he's religious but he carries around a statue of the Virgin Mary...He says he found it on the Island. Weird, right?"
This peaks Eko's curiosity, "May I see it?"

Eko holds the statue and starts getting worked up. Claire tells him Charlie said he found it in the jungle. Claire feels it's just a statue but Eko reveals the heroin hidden inside it.
Motivated Eko asks her,"Where is Charlie?"

Inside the hatch Locke changes the combination of the armory lock. Michael asks Locke if he's "breaking in or breaking out?"
Locke laughs-"I used to love those old silent movies where the robbers would crack a combination lock with their ear pressed up against the safe.  And the money they stole was always in a white bag big $ on it."
Michael -"Silent movies, huh? You're not that old man"
Locke- "I'm old enough"     {Yeah, just how damn old are you?}
Michael-"Setting the combination?"
Locke explains to him that with the new people joining them it was best to limit people's access to the guns. Can't have anyone who wants one walk in and help themselves.  {That is what Eko and Yemi did in the opening of this episode.}
Locke guesses that's why Michael is there. {Guns!}

Charlie sings, "He's got whit, he's got charm, When he gets rough he'll break your arm. He's got taste in manners and grace..."   {Charlie's stick/pole has wire}
Jin is fishing with his net.   Charlie wonders if Jin likes the Kinks as he tries articulating his question to Jin.
Jin gestures communicating to him to be quiet or the fish will go away.
Misunderstanding
Charlie thanks Jin for complementing his beautiful voice.
Pissed off Eko marches over to Charlie demanding to to take him to the jungle to where he found the statue.    Jin, in Korean, seems to ask what's up but Eko tells him it's not his business.  Charlie will lead Eko but wants to explain to Claire before he leaves so she won't get the wrong idea.
Eko-"Tell her on your way."

{Flash Whoosh}

Grown Eko {Cut off sleeves on his leather coat, ala Ana Lucia wear.  His role now is of a man in charge} gets out of the car he looks around. {Watch his face as he looks around. The color RED pops out.} There are clucking chickens.
Eko enters to meet a drug lord about Heroin the man "found".   He sits opposite the man and asks him where he found it.  The drug lord feels that doesn't matter. {Listen to the sound Eko's knife makes when he pulls it out to slit the bag open.}   Eko tests the product that the drug lord has packed in bags.
Eko-"50."
Drug lord-"50 what?"
Eko's helper dumps money out of a bag onto the table.
Eko-"50 is what I will pay you in exchange for the favor you are asking me to do."
The drug lord- "A favor?!"
Eko-"You have a large quantity of heroin in a country that has no poppies and no market for its sale. Your drugs are of no value here, so you must get them out. The borders are all guarded by the military so you must fly. But as I'm sure you are aware the only private planes currently allowed into the air are either U.N. aid or the Catholic missionaries. And so you have come to me for a favor. I will buy your heroin...for 50."
The drug dealer tells Eko it is true what they say about him, "You have no soul."
This pisses off amused Eko so he kills the two men with one wave of his knife.
Eko lets the little boy live. "Go and tell your friends that Mr. Eko let you live."
{Flash Whoosh}
Claire is picking up the pieces of the broken Virgin Mary statue. Charlie walks over with Eko in tow.   Charlie asks Claire what happened to the statue and she tells him not to play dumb.
She presents the heroin to him and remembering that he said he was a drug addict. She is pissed.
Charlie tells Claire that he didn't know the heroin was inside the sealed up statue and swears to her that he's not using. He breaks open the tiny bags and discards the drugs onto the ground, “Believe me now?”
Claire’s not buying it as she looks over at Eko, “Someone’s waiting for you.”

In the jungle Locke is coaching Michael through target practice. “Breath halfway out…gently squeeze the trigger...squeeze.”

Michael pulls the trigger. {No shot is fired.}
Michael wonders how Locke learned all this stuff.

Locke-“My dad used to take me hunting.”
He shares they hunted mostly birds, “Of course, birds don’t shoot back.”

Michael-"Yeah. I know people are talking…thinking I'm gonna go running after Walt again"
Locke- "If people are talking, I'm not hearing it. But if I was, I'd say it's not a very smart plan."
Michael looks right at him,"Yeah, it's not." {Michael isn't technically going after WALT!? What else did he have in mind?}
Locke loads the rifle and tells Michael,OK. Let’s try one for real.”
Michael aims and hits the Dharma Ranch target

Locke is proud, “Bravo.”
Michael smirks. {He knows what he’s doing.}

While on their trek Charlie shares his displeasure with Eko. “Well done with Claire, mate. You got me in a lot of trouble there, so, thanks for that…h-you’re happy. Oh, that’s right you don’t do happy.”
They arrive at a tree and Charlie claims “We’re here…” that is where he found it. {lie}
Eko looks puzzled and feels Charlie is lying.
Charlie smirks-“You know what? I don’t even know you. You asked to see where I found it. This is where I found it. We're done. Have a nice hike.”
Pissed off Eko pushes Charlie against a tree by his neck; he knows Charlie didn’t find the statue there and demands to be taken to the plane.
While continuing their trek Charlie asks Eko how he knows about the plane.
Charlie- "It’s old you know. Been out in the jungle for years. Of course, you would know that, you know everything."   {WTF? How does Charlie know that Eko knows everything? THAT'S FRIGGIN' HUGE!!}

Eko asks why he lied to “the girl” about what was inside the statue.
Again Charlie insists he didn't lie.
Eko-“Then what was the wrong idea?”  {Again, we dealt with this statement a few episodes back. For someone to get the wrong idea, there must be a impression/belief/concept that is the correct/accurate or truthful idea.}
Charlie plays dumb.
Eko-"When I showed you the broken pieces of plaster, you said you did not want her to get the wrong idea. What is the wrong idea?”
Charlie-“I don’t have to tell you anything. You come traipsing across the island and what?...suddenly you're in charge?! You want me to take you to your plane? You best start treating me with some respect. I'm not just some guy you can just tr…” {Who are you really Charlie?}
Eko hears/sees…..The Black Smoke! Charlie does not!
Eko-“Let’s go.”
Charlie looks annoyed, “Yes sir.”
{Flash Whoosh}
A lady with one crutch is outside the church selling Virgin Mary statues. {Eko wears one Pearl earring}
She tells Eko if he buys a statue the money will help buy polio vaccines for the village. {200 Naira} Father Yemi is leaning against the post of the church and asks Eko what he’s doing there.
Eko-"I have come to give my confession.”
Eko is happy to see his brother.
Inside the church we learn this is the first time in three years Eko has come to visit and Yemi won’t hear his confession
Eko-“You know, Monsignor would have said he failed to raise a proper Catholic boy.”
Yemi-“Why waste your time confessing. It won’t help you.” For confession to mean something you must have a penitent heart.
Eko-“You and your guilt, Yemi. I've only done what I needed to do to survive. How is that a sin?”
Yemi-“You may live far from here, but that doesn't mean I haven't heard of who you are and what you have done.“
Eko takes the cross out from Yemi’s shirt and looks at it, “Have you forgotten how you got that cross, brother? The day they took me? Is what I did that day a sin? Or is it forgiven because it is you that was saved?”
Eko tells Yemi the plan to move merchandise/drugs and the use of the church relief flights to transport it; it is not Eko's normal business and they are moving the drugs out of Nigeria so that they cannot be used by “our people”. {So what is normal business? Hmm?}
Eko explains Yemi will have all the money to buy the vaccine.
Eko feels that God has given them this opportunity and they should not turn their back on it.
Yemi-“God did not bring you here, Eko. You're own greed did. I will always love you, but I will not help you. It's good to see you again, brother.”   Yemi walks away. {Even in a bad situation Eko is still trying to help Yemi. But it seems its Eko's own actions that brought him "there".}

{Flash Whoosh}
At the beach Kate is giving Sawyer a close to the ear haircut. He wonders if she’s sure she knows what she’s doing. Kate asks him to please turn his head.
Sawyer-“Why, you ain't got a clean enough shot at my neck? I can cut my own damn hair.”
Sawyer doesn’t have to be belligerent just for belligerent's sake because everyone loves Sawyer now.
Hurley tells Sawyer he’s glad he’s back.
Michael asks Kate for her shift at hatch duty. It will help take Michael’s mind off of things.
Kate-"Sure, it's all yours.”
Michael tells Sawyer, “Glad you’re OK, man” almost as if he was 'obligated’ to say it.

In the jungle Charlie announces he wants to take a break. Eko feels he just had a break.
Charlie stops for a water break anyway, "I'm not what you think I am."
Eko-“And what do I think you are?”
Charlie blames his brother.
Charlie-“It was his fault I became an addict. He started with the heroin. I tried to make him stop. You don't know me, man. I was a good person. I was an altar boy. Alright, I knew what was in that statue it doesn't mean I needed what was inside it. Just don't judge me, man. Don’t…just…”
Eko notices something in a tree.
Charlie-“What’s that?...It’s a parachute.”
They find a priest. Eko opens the corpse’s shirt and notes the gold tooth.
Charlie asks, “You know that guy?”
Eko- "Yes. This man saved my life."
As Eko is kneeling/ praying Charlie's attitude is very cocky. "Saved your life huh? Sure, that makes sense. He takes off plane in Nigeria we're out in the middle of the South Pacific… that makes all the sense in the world."   {Different "places" in the world.}
Charlie notices scripture on the stick and assumes Eko and the other man are priests.

{Flash Whoosh}
Eko walks into Yemi’s church, opens the curtains to the confessional where Yemi is in the middle of hearing a confession.
Yemi-“How dare you come here and disrupt my work!”
Eko asks if Yemi’s reconsidered his request.
Yemi-“Flying drugs under the cover of the church? How’s that something I could ever reconsider?”
Yemi yells at Eko’s thug not to touch the candles on the Jesus table.
Eko will make this easy for Yemi. His plan includes demanding Yemi make them priests and they will fly under the cover of the church. He wants Yemi to sign the ordination documents and he will give Yemi the money for the vaccines.
Yemi demands he leave this church now.
Eko - "Yemi, I understand that you live in a world where righteousness and evil seem very far apart, but that is not the real world. I am your brother and I would never do anything to hurt you, but my friends…if you do not do what I ask…they will burn this church to the ground. Is that worth less than the price of your name on a piece of paper? Think of the lives you will save.”
Yemi reluctantly signs it, “My signature does not make you a priest, Eko. You could never be a priest.”
Eko buys all 300 Virgin Mary statues. He drops the money in front of Yemi and says "I guess we are both sinners now."
As Eko takes the papers and walks out Yemi agrees with Eko but God will forgive only him and not Eko. {Why? Doesn't that God forgive everyone? Maybe not.}

{Flash Whoosh}
Charlie and Eko are still out looking for the plane.
Charlie stops to get his bearings, “Uh, I’m lost….it was dark. I was following Sayid. Right afterwards a big bag of rocks fell on my head so I'm sorry if I'm a bit spotty with the geography.”

Eko suggests Charlie climb the tree to get his bearings or see the plane.

Charlie looks up at the tall tree and doesn’t want to do it. “You climb it. What if I don't? You going to beat me with your Jesus stick? I find it a little odd that your scripture stick has dried blood on it.”
Reluctantly Charlie climbs up. "What kind of priest are you anyway?" {Yes, what kind of priest are you indeed? Hmm?!}

As Charlie climbs Eko informs him he needs to get higher. Eko hears the smoke monster in the distance. Charlie is literally out on a limb and the smoke monster bursts up through the ground coming face to face with Eko.
Charlie yells at Eko to run!

Images of Eko's life flash in the smoke. Eko stands firm and stares it down.

The smoke monster just turns and heads back into the jungle.
Charlie is stunned.
Eko was not afraid!
Charlie saw it, “What the bloody hell did you do?
Eko-“I did nothing.”
Upset Charlie declares that thing kills people! {Have the rest of the Losties seen the Black Smoke kill anyone at this point? NO! Why would he make a statement like that?  Reminder-Charlie was around for the "killing" of the Pilot.  Note that Charlie is not wearing his black and white vans sneakers, these are dark, tie up sneakers/shoes}
But luckily Charlie was able to spot Eko’s plane a kilometer “that way”.
Eko thanks him and heads off.

Michael looks around the hatch; checks his watch, he is alone. He tries typing into the computer trying to contact whoever was trying to communicate with him.
{Who is on the other side this computer, really?}

Michael asks out loud, "Where are you?"
All of a sudden a word appears: Dad?
Michael has brief dialogue with the person on the other end.
As Michael is about to reply to a comment Jack enters and wonders if Michael’s down there alone because he doesn’t see anyone else there. {Timer 47 00}

Michael-"Yeah. Hurley’s supposed to be here but uh, I guess he's running late."   {Maybe Hurley is the Rabbit from Alice in wonderland, he's running late, HAHAHA! But really, where is he?}

Jack pulls up a chair to chat with Michael- "Well listen, uh…No one's forgotten about Walt. I can’t…I don’t have any idea what you must be going through. But, I just want you to know that as soon as we can, we're going to figure out a way to go out… and bring him back."
Michael thanks him.
Jack wonders if Michael’s OK.
As Jack walks around to see the computer screen, it is blank. {All without Michael touching anything. Now that’s fucking convenient! If a kid is missing in your very, very small village, are you going to forget to go and search for him?}

Eko and Charlie arrive at the overturned plane. {As Eko looks on, the sound of the plane engine and propellers starts up.}

The church plane is on the runway in Yemi's village.
Eko and the other fake priests are loading boxes into the plane. {note E 300lbs notice inside the plane}

Yemi arrives in an old Toyota van/bus to save Eko's life.
He warns him not to get on that plane because of the approaching military; who he informed about this operation. Yemi offers to hear Eko's confession.
{Eko asks him if he's a prophet now.}
The military arrives and there is a shootout.
Yemi is shot and put into the plane but Eko is literally kicked out by one of his fake priest thugs. The plane takes off even though it is being shot at.
{Tiny Flash Whoosh}
Eko enters the plane and discovers the boxes/crates of statues and his brother/cross on the chain. He holds his brother, cries and asks for forgiveness.
{Flash Whoosh}
Eko sits on the ground. A military guard {with 2 gold lions on his green beret} asks the father if he’s okay.
Eko assumes his new role as priest/father.

Charlie peeks in on Eko with Yemi.
Eko reveals, “He is my brother.”
Eko places a Virgin Mary statue on Yemi’s corpse and crosses his arms.
Charlie is sorry.
Eko pulls the gas line and pours it over Yemi. He then gives Charlie a statue for the one he broke and they burn the plane.
Charlie asks, “So are you are priest or aren’t you?"
Eko-"Yes I am." {Important! Eko places the cross on chain over his head} He recites the 23rd Psalm with Charlie joining in.
Charlie holds the statue. {The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…}
While the plane burns and Eko’s prayer continues, we see Ana tending to her campfire where Jin introduces Sun to her and they offer Ana fish.
Hurley helps Libby build her tent.
Sawyer looks in a mirror to check out his new haircut.
Jack brings Sawyer his meds.

Charlie comes back to find Claire moving his guitar case and bags. She has kicked him out of the tent for lying. {Why do they have domestic issues?}
He apologizes for lying to her, "They make me feel safer to have it around."
Claire-“Look, I can’t have you around my baby, OK.”
He tries to explain but Claire yells, “I can’t have you sleeping anywhere near us, OK!”
Aaron cries and Claire tells Charlie to go.
Charlie picks up his guitar case and bags and leaves.

At night in the jungle we see that Charlie continues to feed his need to feel safer around the statue.
He has hidden many statues.

The 23rd Psalm is a GREAT episode!!!!

Things to note...Questions to ask...
* Eyes.
* Brothers.
* Priests. Military guards/security

* Eko was taken as a child. Walt is taken as a child.
* Movies. Images. Script-written.
* Real- Not Real. Fake. Real world-un/not real world.
* Prophet-Profit.
* Deal.
* Items of no use or value.
* Fly. Save. Fail. Beat.
* Communications. Linguistics. Understand. Misunderstanding.
* Locke coaches Michael with target practice and he coached Walt with knife throwing.
* "No soul"...Why? Is it strictly because they have looking for that missing piece of themselves or is it because they are a bot?
* Choosing an identity/name. Change roles.
* Hidden inside the statue.
* The 23rd Psalm….Just a prayer?  This is the Psalm of David. "The lord is my shepherd..."
* Because I'm in a freaky mood, I'll ask....Who is Hurley, really? References to clucking chickens! LOL! Clucking chickens and Hurley! {I love Hurley!!!!}
* Why is Charlie such a liar?  Is he an impostor/phony of some sort?  Is he pretending to be something when in reality he is something else? Could that be true of all of them?
* Who is Charlie….really? Why make a statement about the smoke monster killing people when at this point the Lostie's have never seen the smoke kill anyone.  Do Charlie and the Castaways know what the black smoke really is?  Do they know that the black smoke is responsible for the "deaths" we have seen thus far? Hmmm?
* What/who is the smoke monster, really?   Is it a security system that protects the “Island” and the secrets of the “Island”?  What actions would the smoke monster take to protect the "Island"?  Does it remove people and other threats when the discovery of the truth is about to be revealed? Does it take different shapes and create situations?   Is it an entity, a magnetic charge, an alien? Who knows? Do I need to worry about dragons too?
* Michael: What is he up to, really?  Again, if Walt really can show himself why not show himself to his own "father", why use a computer?    Does Michael believe he's talking to Walt or is he really looking for someone/something else under the cover of looking for Walt?  Is Michael a distraught father trying anyway possible to find his boy or is he having to "rescue" Walt by default?   Come on now, if Michael thought that he could really find Walt and knew Walt was the one really trying to contact him via the computer would/shouldn't he tell everyone?   Especially when Jack talks to him about finding Walt? I still believe Michael knows lots!
* The plane, the cross, statues, guns, etc…Trigger points for our residents of the "Island"? Yes!
* A statue keeps on finding its way to Charlie.
* Will a woman save the day?  Sun, Claire or Kate?
* Michael sees "Dad?" on the computer and in White Rabbit Jack catches up with Christian in the jungle and says "Dad?"
* Christian is sober 50 days in A Tale of Two Cities.

* Lyrics to He's Evil by The Kinks:
He comes on smooth, cool and kind, But he wants your body not your mind.
He's got style, personality, But he's the devil in reality.
He'll make you laugh, make you smile, And make you feel good for a while.
Wicked smile, decadent grin, He likes school girls, nuns and virgins.
His skin is soft but his mind is hard, He'll lead you on then he'll tear you apart.
He is just the devil in disguise. He will drag you down and he will make you cry.
And once you're in there'll be no getting out,
So look out, look out, look out, look out.
He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil.
He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil.
He's got wit he's got charm. But when he gets rough he'll break your arm.
He's got taste, manners and grace, But when he gets tough he'll slit your face.
He'll buy you jewels, expensive clothes, Then his mind'll go and he'll bust your nose.
He's a joker and a clown But he'll pervert you and drag you down.
He comes on smooth, cool and kind, But he wants your body not your mind,
He is just the devil in disguise. He will drag you down and he will make you cry,
And once you're in there will be no getting out.
So look out, look out, look out.
Look out, look out, look out.
He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil.
He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil. He's evil.
evil. He's evil.

There is no doubt that we are shown that things/people here are not what we think they are. The writers just fucking told us!  The truth is most likely hidden under the cover of something else and right in front of our eyes.
Are we getting the wrong idea about what's going on?  Yeah, I believe so. Are there some "kinks" in our story? ABSOLUTELY!
Is Eko living the life he really is supposed to be living, or did he step into Yemi's place? Is he trying to make the best of it either way? Eko has a cross to bear but who is Eko… really? And while we’re at it…
Who is Locke, really?  Again, I question Locke, his real role, his purpose and his 'years'. And do I dare say age? Could he be older than his years? Maybe, maybe not….. I love that he is so worldly but where did that come from?

The bottom line here is what is told directly to us...Things and people are not what they seem!!! I've been saying that all along.

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

Let's Talk about LOST! ?
(Click the pics!)
Eko is chopping wood with an ax; to build the church. {Cross on black cord} Ana Lucia is standing there with no shoes on and asks him, "What are you building?"
Eko smiles, happy to see her and says, "Hello Ana".
Ana-“Well, hello yourself. So you gonna tell me. What is it?”
He tells her he is "building a church".
Ana crosses her arms and sarcastically wonders, "Now why the hell would you wanna do that?"
Eko- "Because I was told to."
Ana-"Told to by who?"
Eko- "I was just told...I think it was in a dream."
Ana- "A dream like this one?"
Ana now has a gunshot wound and is bleeding from the corner of her mouth and forehead.   She tells Eko that he needs to help John. {Her voice is a bit distorted}
****"FLASHES" of...The Tailies version of the crash, in the water, the monster, body floating in the water, cross on the chain, the feet of the others walking by when he was with Jin, teddy bear, campfire, Jin blind folded, 9 virgin Mary statues from outside the church in his village, Eko and Charlie burn the drug plane, black smoke rising from it, Eko's priest brother, Arrow station with Dharma symbol with fire, Bible he found, Jesus Stick w/ 23 psalm,, revelations:3,"Hateth", Coi_sians, T:4, TITUS :3, Priest skeleton w/gold tooth, Locke, Eko's confrontation w/smoke monster when he sees his life flashes inside it, Cross w/chain on skeleton body, Drug/missionary plane about to take off, soldiers going after the plane, brother yelling, {the very next frame of Yemi is purposely blurred}, the orientation film w/Marvin Candle, Swan Dharma logo from hatch.****

Eko with an ax in the hatch; see the Swan Dharma logo and goes into the computer room. Yemi sits at the computer with his hands folded. There is a glass of water to his left and a red toolbox.
Eko-"Yemi."
Yemi smiles, gets up, nods and says "Hello brother."
Eko hurries to him and says "Forgive me! I should have listened to you. You were right. I didn't mean to do it." {Do what exactly?}
Yemi- "Shhhh. Your work being done in this place is important, Eko. It is more important than anything. And it is in danger. You must help John. He has lost his way. You must make him take you to the question mark.”
Eko looks confused.
The countdown clock beeps, it turns to black and red '?'. {Yemi seems disappointed the timer is up.} The computer keyboard is all question marks. Yemi enters a code, the beeping stops; the timer resets.
Yemi- "John will not want to show you, so you must make him. {The sound of a hum.} There are many distractions brother. But you must move past them. What's done is done. Do you understand?"
Eko says yes. The hatch starts to rumble and shake. You can hear magnet sound; see the computer screen.
Yemi- "Eko, bring the ax!"    We see and hear the ax in the dark.
Eko jolts AWAKE, upset and holding on to the cross around his neck. Charlie asks if he's alright. Eko grabs the ax and tells Charlie, "I need to find John".

In the jungle at night:
Locke is still on crutches, Kate, Jack and Sawyer are complaining about Locke, the guns/Ana. Sawyer is pissed and says to Jack, ”Well, ain't that swell. Gimpy McCrutch over here covers up that the Artist Formally Known as Henry Gale tried to strangle your little Amiga, and suddenly it's on me when she goes vigilante.”
Jack-”How about you go back to the beach.”
Kate makes them stop the bickering.
Michael stumbles out of the hatch doors, "He shot me. He's gone. He ran out."
Michael says he was sleeping and heard gun shots.
Jack- "Come on, We gotta get you up, alright."
Eko shows up. "Let me help."

Sawyer and Kate are inside the hatch and find Ana Lucia dead and Libby on the ground.   The armory is empty. {I love that the lava lamp is on.}  Kate checks on Ana Lucia; she’s dead. {and wearing a wedding ring.}
Libby is still alive, barely.  Michael is troubled about that! {Michael looks like, WTF? I shot her 2x!}
Jack tells Kate, "We gotta get her up. We gotta get her up to the back room."
Eko blesses Ana's face/body that is now laid in the armory.   Eko looks up and prays.
Locke looks on.
{Jack and Libby have on the same color shirts.}
Dr. Jack and Nurse Kate work on Libby; who is in shock. {Here I go over thinking! Jack tells Kate to keep pressure on this one.  But when Jack walks out of the bunk room I don't see Kate keeping pressure on any Libby.  Are those the only set of bunks in the hatch? Please tell me.}
Jack asks Michael “How long ago did this happen? How long ago did he leave?”
Michael-"About 20 min, maybe a half hour ago."
Jack wants to pick up the trail to catch up to him.   Sawyer reminds Jack the guy has a head start and a gun.  Jack says that he shot three of our people; one's dead. {Ana's one of his people? NOT.} Sawyer’s concerned who will take care of Libby while Jack’s off playing Daniel Boone.
Eko volunteers to go.  He asks Locke about his tracking experience, "We will find his trail together."
Jack tells them if they find anything to come back there and they'll figure out what to do next, together.
Eko with his ax and John with his crutches, head out.
{Flash Whoosh}
Eko sits in a dark confessional going through the motions of being a priest. He is hearing confession, "How long has it been since your last confession?" {Eko looks really thrilled. LOL! He even checks his watch.}
In the confessional is the adulterer guy who forged I.D. papers for a guy pretending to be a priest. The guy (Mr. Caldwell) gives Eko a passport. {Sydney Australia is all over it, 's on top M 223652, National status, Australian citizen, a few dates 8/23/68, 16/4/04, 15/4/14} The guy has friends in L.A. He can get Eko with them to do 'stuff'.

Eko is  known  as Father Tunde. Eko introduces the man to the monsignor as the man who's helping him plan his trip to the U.S.. The monsignor has bad news about Tunde’s trip. Eko has to postpone his trip because it appears they have a miracle.
Inside the church a mother is telling Father Tunde about her daughter who has drowned and came back to lifeCharlotte, whose not much of a swimmer, must have slipped and fell into the river, drowns and the next day she woke up! Dead, and the next day she woke up!
Mrs. Malkin tells the unbeliever Eko that "It's a miracle, a confirmation of faith. Everyone needs to know about this...The world needs to know about this."
Mrs. Malkin tells Tunde that Charlotte is at home with her husband the psychic.  Monsignor tells her that the church will conduct an investigation before anyone can be told.     Father Tunde will start this process.
The monsignor chose Eko for this because he doesn't believe what the woman says.

Eko leads John through the dark jungle.
John asks Eko, "Are you seeing something I'm not? Hey! I haven't seen a single track or piece of sign since we left the hatch. What the hell are you following?" {WTF is a piece of sign? Hmmm?}
Eko-"Where is the question mark?”
John doesn't get it.
John tells him "You keep chasing after your own shadow. I'm going back" {YEAH!}
Persistent Eko says to John- "I know you don't want to show me, but you must."
John- "No. I don't have to show you anything."
Then Eko is sorry because now he must head butt him; knocking him out! {People are always getting knocked out!}

John starts to wake up; his head bothers him.
Eko admits he “hit” John because he was being difficult.
John-“Are you insane?”
No, Eko is not.  Eko also shares with John that his friend "Ana Lucia wants me to help you, John...Find the question mark."
John- “You don’t even know what you’re talking about. Do you?”
Eko says no, “But you know what I am talking about, John. And that is all that matters.”
Frustrated John gives Eko his drawing of the blast door map with the question mark in the center.
John-"Here. You wanna find your damn question mark? Here. Here. This is it, right here. Take it! Take it! Because it’s nothing. It’s a memory. It's 10 seconds of nothing."
Eko is trying to figure out what direction to head.
John still insists the hatch isn't his.
Eko- “If the Swan is where we came from, then we go that way.”
John feels they shouldn’t even be out there and that Ana Lucia would still be alive if I’d just told Jack that Henry attacked her.
Eko- “Now she wants us to go here, John. She wants us to go here, John. Together. She said this in my dream.”
John whispers, “Oh. Of course. Your dream.”
Eko wants John to tell him, "Haven’t you ever followed a dream?"
{Flash Whoosh}

Eko interviews/investigates Ian.
Ian- “So, the Vatican is really interested in this one.”
Eko says it depends on what he puts in his report. Ian got the call 1 am.  Ambrose brought this girl in. She'd been dead in the water two hours. Eko wonders if Ian’s had much experience in this type of death.
Of course Ian has, he’s an undertaker, it’s his day job; he’s perfectly qualified to be a coroner as he did go to medical school.
Eko asks when he found out that she was not dead.
Ian doesn’t expect Eko to believe him but shares it was during the autopsy.
He recorded the autopsy and plays it for Eko.
While the tape plays Ian leaves the room. “This is a Caucasian female. She's 161 cm, 51.3 kilos. Body prepped and washed by the very lovely Valerie McDervish...Commencing with the post. This is a clear case of drowning. I'll begin with a thoracic...” You hear the terrible screams. {Listen to the screams very closely!!}
Ian returns tells Eko to "Take it, I don't ever want to listen to that tape again."
He gives it to Eko.

In the jungle, Eko is trying to follow John's map.
John- “You lost already?”
Eko feels John’s map is inexact.
John- “No kidding.”
Eko asks John "These landmarks, is this a river?" questioning a point on the map.
John- "No. It’s a wavy line. I didn't draw it, I just transcribed it, I told you. I don't even know if it is a map."  {WOW!! Maybe it's not a map.}
Eko will assume it is.
John asks what the ax is for. Eko admits he doesn’t know yet. Eko takes a few steps and crunches on a Virgin Mary statue. They walk a little bit further and find the missionary plane.
Eko-“You were the one who found this plane, yes.”
Locke seems sad, “Yeah. It was up there.”
Eko-“And what made it fall?”
John- “Boone. Boone made it fall. Then he died. A sacrifice that the island demanded.”
Eko turns to John, confused and says, “Excuse me.”
John says it’s nothing.
Eko tells John that they will make camp, get some sleep and wait for FURTHER INSTRUCTION. {WOW!! YEAH!!}

In the hatch impatient Jack asks Kate “Where the hell are they?
Kate wants him to calm down, “Finding his trail in the dark’s not gonna be easy. They'll be back.”
Jack washes blood off his hands.
Michael asks Jack if Libby said anything.
Nope, she’s still unconscious; the bleeding has stopped and that’s not good.    Jack can make Libby comfortable but he doesn’t have what he needs.    Sawyer wonders why their all looking at him; he gave them all the meds two days ago.
Jack needs the heroin.
Sawyer- “Give me 20 minutes.”
Even though it doesn’t take two people to carry it, Jack insists Kate to go with Sawyer.     Jack knows the heroin is in his stash; this way Kate can see where he has the guns, or “let poor Libby suffer" says Sawyer. {He does have a heart!} Sawyer and Freckles head out.
Troubled Mike glances over to see Libby.

It is daylight on Sawyer and Kate's walk back to his stash on the beach.    Kate is curious about how Ana got his gun.   Sawyer lies and says maybe she lifted it off of him.   Kate mocks Ana pick-pocketing his gun but wonders how.
Sawyer-”If I knew how she did it, then she wouldn’t be able to do it now, would she?”
They arrive at his tent. Kate assumed the stash is somewhere else.
Sawyer opens the fabric door for her and says, “Do you have to make everything so damn difficult? Just go in.”
The stash, guns and heroin are all right there!   Sawyer kept them right underneath himself all this time. {He wipes the dirt off the stash cover; It is a piece Oceanic wreckage. It looks like a BULLS EYE or TARGET! There is a bottle in wine/liquor in his tent.}
Sawyer is pleased he fooled Kate; he hands her a Virgin Mary statue.

On their way back to the hatch, red shirt wearing Hurley asks them if they've seen Libby around. Kate breaks the news to him.
{It was daylight when Libby went back for the blankets, dark when Michael fell out of the hatch doors, he tells jack that 'it' happened 20-30 minutes before, now it's daylight again. How much time has passed?}

John is sleeping near Eko and his extinguished campfire.
{White smoke rises}
A whisper "Shhhh. You’ll wake John...Come. Follow me.”
Eko and his ax follow Yemi. They climb up the cliff with the roots from the trees. {Yemi kicks ass on the climb! It reminds me of the Steven King story Pet Sematary. When Judd and Louis climb over the thick piled high brush and sticks, Judd moves quickly and swiftly up and over it and on to the pet sematary. I just wanted to share that with you.}
Once at the top, Yemi is in a wheelchair.
Yemi- "Wake up John!"
{Listen to how that is said}
Eko falls!
John wakes up with a jolt!
Eko with his stick asks John if he had a dream with a man; a priest.   Eko tells John the man he saw was his brother; that is why they have to go together.    This is how they are going to be led and how they will know where to go next.
John doesn’t know where to go, "It wasn't even me, it was you. It didn’t...He wanted me to follow him.” {Important!}
Eko -“Follow him where?”
They look up to the top of the cliff. Eko is happy and tells John to wait there.
John feels it was just a dream, it's not safe,  but Eko goes anyway.
{Flash Whoosh}

Eko goes to the Malkin’s home to speak to their daughter. {It's a day later} {2001-house number} Joyce panics that Eko is there; it’s not a good time.
Richard Malkin orders his wife and daughter back into the house.
Charlotte doesn’t say a word and never takes her eyes off of Eko.
Richard reveals to Eko there was no miracle.
Eko says the doctor who treated his daughter feels differently {Doctor?}
Richard says the Doctor is trying to cover up his own negligence. "He tell you the whole story...how she supposedly drowned? She fell into a mountain river, her body shut down; she went into hypothermia which made her appear dead."
Mrs. Malkin is a zealot!  Everything his wife is doing is to spite him because knows he's a fraud. Richard reveals he makes his living as a psychic, "That's what I do. I gather intelligence on people and I exploit it.   Every day I meet people looking for a miracle Desperate to find one, but there are none to be had. Not in this world anyway.”
{Is that what he's doing to/with Eko right now? If he tells Eko no miracle, then he can go on his trip and be on that "plane".}
Eko will report back that there is no miracle here, “Your daughter is alive. This is all that matters.”
Richard looks relieved. Eko and the girl share a look through a window.
{Flash Whoosh}

Eko works hard to climb up the cliff with is ax. John warns Eko to be careful. Eko slips a bit but holds on. {Check out how Locke is standing holding his crutches.}

Once up top John asks what's up there, “Do you see anything?” {What a beautiful view!} Eko sees the beach craft plane and what he believes is a “?”.  {It looks like a circle to me}

Eko investigates the dirt on the ground and proclaims the earth has been salted so that nothing can grow.   {Like Carthage.}
John wonders why because there’s nothing there. {Hmmm.}
Eko believes a circle, a target, so that this place can be seen from up above.

Locke wonders, "They? What place?"
Eko-“The place that this plane fell upon. Come on John!”
John looks a bit baffled.
Eko pokes around the plane with his ax and hits something metallic. There is another hatch underneath the plane. Together they push the plane and wipe dirt off the top to reveal the hatch. Eko uses his ax to open it. John would like to open it too so they open it together.
This hatch has two doors. The men look down into the very deep hatch.
In the Swan hatch Jack cracks open the Virgin Mary statue. {IMPORTANT:Watch Jack's face when he holds/looks at the heroin.}
Hurley tells Michael that he was going to have his first date with Libby. Hurley is glad Michael is okay. {Michaels' expression.}

John and Eko make their descent into the hatch.
Entering the new hatch first is Eko then John. This hatch has a ladder. We see a Dharma logo. This hatch has power/electricity.
John turns the power on.
Inside a little room there are two chairs; there is heroin on the desk tops.    There is a wall with nine monitors. Monitor number five is on. {Static} Locke turns the other monitors on.
One monitor airs footage from the Swan hatch; Jack is walking around. There are cameras everywhere and a computer.  John turns on the lights.
The computer screen is on and shows 'Print log Y or N'. Locke presses Y execute.
The printer prints out the log showing numbers and the word “accepted” after them.
Eko finds a closet with blank composition notes books.
John sends his blast door map {I thought he gave it to Eko? Is this a different one? Are there 2, 3 or more?} up in the pneumatic tube.
Eko finds an orientation video tape.
Eko loads the tape into the top loading VCR.

The DHARMA INITIATIVE-ORIENTATION-STATION 5 -THE PEARL.
They watch video 5 of 6. The video plays on monitor 5.
The video is hosted by Dr. Mark Wickmund. {No fake arms.}
The Pearl is a monitoring station. The activities of participants of Dharma projects can be observed and recorded. {People are shown exercising} Not only for posterity but for the ongoing refinement of the initiative as a whole.   Karen DeGroot wrote "Careful observation is the only key to true.. and complete awareness." Participant’s tour of duty will last three weeks.   You and partner will observe a psychological experiment in progress.  The other team members aren't aware they're under surveillance or that they are the subjects of an experiment.  Working in eight hours shifts you and your partner will record everything you observe in the notebooks.   What is the nature of the experiment, you might ask?  What do the subjects believe they are accomplishing, as they struggle to fulfill their tasks? You as the observer don't need to know.  All you need to know is that the subjects believe their job is of the utmost importance.  Remember, everything that occurs, no matter how minute or seemingly unimportant MUST be recorded.   Each time the notebook is filled with the fruits of your diligent observation, {Tape glitches-static} place it in the container provided, place it in pneumatic tube and presto, it will be transported directly to us.   At the end of eight hour shift, proceed to the Pala Ferry, which will take you back to the barracks and prepare for your next… On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso and all of us at the Dharma Initiative, thank you, Namaste and good luck. {The credit at the end of video is The Hanso Foundation 1980.}

Eko asks John if he'd like to watch that again.
Disappointed John says no, he's seen enough.   Pleased Eko wants to bring the notebooks and papers back as he believes the work John has been doing is more important than ever; pushing the button. John says pushing the button is not work, it's a joke. "Rats in a maze, with no cheese."
Eko insists its work.
Eko-"We're are being tested…The reason to do it, push the button is not because we are told to do so in a film...We do it because we believe we are meant to. Isn't that the reason you pushed it, John?"
John is getting angry- "I was never meant to do anything. Every single second of my pathetic little life is as useless as that button. You think it's important, you think its necessary, its nothing. It's meaningless. And who are you to tell me that it's not?"
{Flash Whoosh}
Eko at the Oceanic check in counter at the airport. {Another agent behind the counter. Not Krissy. And we don’t see any of the fuselage passengers here. Only Libby. Interesting, huh.} Flight 8 1 5 leaving from gate 23.
Charlotte {The un-dead/alive} waits to speak to Eko. Her father doesn't want her talking to Eko but she had to see Eko. Crazy Charlotte promised to deliver a message, ”He says you were a good priest".
Yemi said this. This upsets Eko, “Speaking about my brother is not a joke. So you should be very careful about what you say next.”
Charlotte- "I saw him when I was between places. He said that you would come and see me. He said that even though you were pretending, you were a good man… He wants you to know that he will see you soon. He says that even though you don’t have faith in yourself, that he has faith in you.”
Eko raises his voice wondering why she is doing this to him. Libby happens by and asks if everything is alright. Charlotte nods her head yes at Libby. {Check out Libby's body language and look she gives!}
Charlotte tells Eko- "He has faith in you. One day you'll believe me". {Flight 815 is now boarding for L.A.}

Eko tells John that the cross he wears was worn by his brother Yemi. {Cross on a brown cord} Yemi was a great man. “A priest. A man of god.   And because I betrayed him, he was shot and died. He was placed on a plane, which took off from an air strip in Nigeria, half a world from here. Then the plane that I was on crashed on this Island.   And somehow, here, I found my brother again. I found him in the same plane that took off from Nigeria in the same plane that lies above us now, that has concealed this place.   And I took this cross from around Yemi's neck and put it back on mine. Just as it was on the day I first took another man's life. So let me ask you, how can you say this is meaningless?  I believe the work being done in the hatch is more important that anything. If you will not continue to push the button John, I will."
Eko packs up notebooks and papers.

In the hatch, Jack shoots Libby up with {Heroin}.
Hurley kneels down beside Libby, who is trying to open her eyes.
Hurley is crying-“Hey. It’s Hurley. Hugo. I’m sorry I forgot the blankets. I’m sorry I forgot the blankets.
Libby struggles but manages to say "Michael".
Jack tells her “He's okay. He made it, Libby. It’s okay. It’s alright."
Libby dies. They all cry. {I'm crying cause they're all crying!!}
Sawyer comforts Kate.
Jack stands in front of the bathroom mirror. {Two Jacks.}
The beeping starts on the countdown clock.
We see Eko and Locke {crutches} heading back.
Hurley is with Libby.
Michael is standing in the armory with one hell of a look on his face.
Ana Lucia’s body is covered except for her head/face; looks more like she’s sleeping.
The beeping continues.
We see the computer, waiting there for someone to enter in the code.

? is a great episode!
Things are NOT what they seem on the surface.   Eko tells Ana he "thinks" he was told about building a church in a dream.    Is his speaking with Ana a dream?   In this place what are "dreams" or "visions" and what could be real, manipulated imagery or even memory?    The ever important orientation video mentions a bit about the subject “believing” their job is of the utmost importance, this is what "Yemi" tells "Eko" as well.
With the similarities we witnessed with Sawyer here and the "target", how does he connect? How about the "work being done in the hatch"?    Does this have anything to do with the "work" Jack is doing in there with Libby and the heroin? Definitely lines are blurred!

Things to note...Questions to ask...

✈ Eye Color
✈ Dreams; an altered state of consciousness.
✈ Exercise. Study. Experiment. Test. Learn.
✈ Boone
✈ What is Eko's "work" in this place, really? Is he there to build a church or build something else?! By the way, another word for church is temple.  Important? Maybe...
Dark and Light. Eko and John.  Two brothers.   Eko finds his "brother", again. Hmmm??   Eko also bears the cross of his brother.   What is the connection with Eko and Locke?
Two different versions of the cross. One on a chain, one on a black cord.
✈ Could John be the original artist of the blast door map or just the scribe?
✈ Jack handles the Heroin in the Swan hatch and Locke and Eko come in contact with it at the Pearl Station.
✈ Blast door map is the shape is of the Bagua (8 sides).The ba gua literally "eight symbols": are eight diagrams used in Taoist cosmology  to represent the fundamental principles of reality, seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts.  Buddhism.
✈ The '?' is shown in the middle of the blast door map. It marks the center with 7 Hatches around it. 6 hatches are shown, 1 is crossed out.
✈ The blast door map shows the '?' in the center of the hatches. Yet here, this opening to this hatch is basically right at the question mark. So is this an exit not an entrance into this hatch? Another hatch with two ways in and/or out.
✈ Just as the episode Orientation could be about their orientation to the Island itself, couldn't the video in the Pearl be part of the answer about what's happening to them? Clues to people watching! Watching the observers.
Ian also means John!
✈ Drugs. Heroin {fruit/food}.
✈ Tour of duty is a military term.
Oyster and Pearl: A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk.
✈ We hear about to the DeGroots and Alvar Hanso in addition to the Dharma Initiative.
There was a bulls eye/target underneath Sawyer. The Oceanic Logo fits into this idea here.
✈ Hurley feels responsible for Libby's death.
✈ Who does the swan hatch belong to? John or Jack?
✈ Again we are shown that things are not real. Even the participants in the Dharma Initiative were lied to about what they were doing. Secrets/Truth is kept from them.
✈ Is it easy to fake a death and have someone fooled? Here we see people appearing dead, although they are NOT!  {Dead and then come back to life/reborn.}
✈ There is a target or bulls eye to be seen from above. Be seen by whom? {To me it looks like a circle in the salted earth}
Are the answers right underneath them? Very deep below them or above them or within them?
✈ I.D.-Identity.  New Identity/different identity.
Wavy Line- What could this represent? Brain waves, perhaps.

Vocabulary and Research...
  Map- Computer and video games : Where "map" may refer to a level in computer or video games.
   - MAP (file format)a computer file format.
   - MAP (higher-order function)a higher-order function used to apply a function to a list of values and return another list with the results.
♦  Boon- A blessing or benefit.
♦  Question mark: the punctuation mark (?) placed at the end of a sentence or phrase intended as a direct question. It is also used after a word or phrase whose appropriateness is in doubt, or after a number or date whose accuracy is in doubt.
   - Used in computer programming.
   - It is also used in Math equations.
   -Minkowski's question mark function, a mathematical function
♦  The Question Mark (Polygonia interrogationis) is a North American nymphalid butterfly.
More importantly I also learned, it is an algebraic chess notation. "?" denotes a BAD MOVE, and "??" a blunder. I find that fitting to our story.

It is VERY important to note that John dreamed that he was Eko following his brother. A dream where John wasn’t himself but actually someone else.  In the dream Yemi was in the wheelchair, as representation of John, but Locke felt he embodied Eko.  Who dreams were these...really?  We can't count out other hints to things pointing to "Yourself".  This is telling us something very important.

Looking for the '?'.
Is it about finding another hatch? I think...no.  Maybe this hatch just distracted them from what they really were supposed to be looking for.   After all finding this new hatch makes Locke lose faith even more.  Eko was supposed to help him find his way, not steer John further off the path, or was it?  Eko feels the work in the hatch is more important than anything.  I feel like their job on the "Island" is of the utmost importance...this is the place that they will make changes in themselves and find what has been lost.
We know that there are many hatches so, which hatch has the more important work? Is it one we have not seen at this point?

?... Is it possible that Eko still missed the mark? Did his quest for the '?' end up being a 'Bad Move or Blunder'? Was there a distraction? Or did he do exactly what "someone" instructed him to do?
Did John wake up?

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin!I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.
