Caesar enters a dark office. {Hydra/Ben’s office} This office contains items: anatomy chart, an animal skull, Life magazine 4/19/54 {Creature from the black lagoon.).
He breaks into a file cabinet and looks through maps, diagrams, blue prints and reads over “space” notes. From the floor he notices something hidden/attached under the desk; a gun. Ilana enters and asks if he found anything. He lies and says no. She wants to know what he just put in his bag. Again he lies and pulls out a flashlight.
She reveals, “We found someone; a man. Roxanne was scouting just south of here. He was just standing in the water. He’s wearing a suit.”
They walk in the dark past an intact plane.
Caesar-“Nobody recognizes him?”
Ilana- “No. Whoever he is, he didn’t come with us.”
Caesar- “Then how do we know he isn’t one of the ones who disappeared?”
She tells Caesar he’s not; she knows this because he wasn’t on the plane.
Caesar wonders what this man had to say but he will have to ask him that himself.
The survivors of Ajira hang out on the beach watching a man sitting with a dark Ajira blanket covering him {and his head}. {Maybe he just wants to meditate in private. lol}
A bonfire burns.
Caesar says hello to “blanket man” and introduces himself.
Blanket man removes his hood and says, “My name is John Locke.”
Daylight:
John’s suit jacket and Christian’s shoes are on the beach. John looks out over the water at another island. Ilana greets him with a ‘Good morning’, and brings him a delicious mango from a tree they found. We see two outrigger boats and John asks if they're hers.
She says they aren’t, “They were already here. There used to be three, but the pilot and some woman took one. Didn’t tell anyone, just ran off in the middle of the night.”
John-“The pilot of the plane that brought you here?”
Yes.
John asks if she has a passenger list. She informs him he’ll have to talk to Caesar. John really loves the taste of that mango! Ilana mentions that nobody remembers him being on the plane.
John doesn’t remember being on it either. Anna Lucia, uh, I mean, Ilana asks what he does remember.
John remembers a lot. Ilana's intrigued about why he’s dressed up so nice.
John- “No. But I can guess.”
So she wants him to guess.
John smirks and says "I think this suit is what they were gonna bury me in…you asked what I
remembered. I remember dying.”
Maybe she doesn’t take him seriously; she walks away.
{Flash}
The wheel is stuck.
Christian wishes John luck.
John pulls the wheel back. {Not push as per Christian's instructions}
Christian smiles, “Say hello to my son.”
John-“Who’s your son?”
Bright light!
John eyes closed. He jolts awake.
He is in the middle of the desert in Tunisia. {Big mound} His leg is hurt from the fall into the well.
John pukes. There's a camera and wires circling the area around him. He calls out for help.
Night:
John still lays there awake and waiting.
A pickup truck with Tunisian men drive out and almost run him over. They gather up John and throw him in the back of the truck.
The men carry him to a rundown functioning clinic. All the while John is asking, “Where is this? Where are we? Where am I?”
They drop him on the bed.
John asks the Doctor, “Sir. Where am I? Who are you?...Where am I? Do you speak English?”
The Doctor takes unmarked pills out of a cabinet and forces John to swallow them. {gives John a filthy cup} John looks over and we see Abaddon watching from behind a lace-like curtain.
The Doctor tells John to bite on a wooden stick, in preparation for him pulling his leg back into place. {The stick is strapped to John’s mouth, like a gag bit used on horses for riding}
The Doctor preps John’s leg and pulls the leg.
John shakes and starts to see things blurry and passes out.
Night:
In the dark a man watches John sleep.
“John. John. Wake up.”
John starts to awaken; He sees his leg in a cast.
The man tells him he’s had a compound fracture. The Doctors “here” did their best, but he flew in a specialist to reset his leg properly. The man pours John a glass of water, “It’s nice to see you again, John.”
John- “Do I know you?”
Yep, he does.
The man understands John being confused. “Imagine how I feel. I met you when I was 17. Now all these years later, here we are. You look exactly the same.”
John asks who he is.
“My name is Charles Widmore. Tell me John…How long has it been for you since we first met? Since you walked into our camp and you spoke to Richard?”
Surprised John replies, “Four days.”
Widmore finds that incredible. John asks about the camera in the desert, “That was yours.”
Yep, it was.
John asks how he knew he’d be there.
Widmore-“That’s the exit.” {Exit only?}
Widmore was afraid that Benjamin might fool John into leaving the island, as he did with him.
Widmore reveals, “I was their leader.”
John- “The Others?”
Widmore- “They’re not 'The Others' to me. They’re my people. We protected the Island, peacefully. For more than three decades. But then I was exiled...by him. Just as you were.”
John says no; Ben wasn’t even there when he left. He was already gone. “I, I wasn’t exiled. I chose to leave.” {Self imposed exile/exit}
Widmore wonders why he would do that and then has a revelation. “You’ve come to bring them back. The ones who left.”
John lies and says no.
Widmore understands John lying to him, but there’s something he should know.
He explains, “All your friends, who left the Island, they’ve been back three years... They’ve gone back to their normal lives. And none of them has spoken a word of truth about where they were.”
{Widmore conveniently came prepared with the newspaper announcing the rescue of the Oceanic 6. Give me a fucking break!}
John has to bring them back and Widmore will do everything in his power to help him. Because…there’s a war coming. And if John’s not back on the Island when that happens, the wrong side is going to win.
Children are playing soccer.
John sits outside looking at his new I.D. {Type P, Canadian. Jeremy Bentham. 15 Feb 48. Born in New York, New York. Date of issue, 12 Dec 07. Date of expiry 12 Dec 17}
Jeremy Bentham was a British Philosopher. Widmore tells John, his parents had a sense of humor when naming him John Locke, so why can’t he. {Interesting comment.}
Widmore gives him money, enough for now, and an international phone. “If you need to reach me for anything just press 2 3.”
{Yeah, didn’t see that coming. Ha!}
Widmore goes on to tell him the folder contains “Your people’s whereabouts. Everyone that was on the Island that left.”
John looks at a photo of Sayid doing construction and asks,“You’ve been watching them?”
Widmore tells John he’s deeply invested in the future of the Island. So yes, he’s been watching them. “I wouldn’t mention I’m involved in this. I can’t imagine what they think of me, having listened to Benjamin‘s lies.”
John- “How do I know that you’re not the one who’s lying?”
Widmore- “I haven’t tried to kill you. Would you say the same for him?” {TouchĂ©.}
John still doesn’t trust him, recalling Widmore sent a team of killers and a boatload of C-4 to the Island; that doesn’t exactly scream trust.
Widmore needed Linus removed so it could be John’s time. “The Island needs you, John. It has for a long time.”
John wants to know what makes Widmore think he’s so special.
Widmore- “Because you are.”
A car pulls up near their table.
Widmore- “Ah. Your chariot has arrived.”
John- “He said I would die.”
John shares Richard Alpert’s information regarding the only way to get them to come back was he had to die. Widmore doesn’t know why he said that, “But I’m not gonna let that happen.”
Widmore introduces Matthew Abaddon, “He’ll take you anywhere you need to go. Protect you from whomever intends to do you harm.”
Abaddon shakes John’s hand and returns to the car.
Widmore helps John from the chair, “Good luck, John. And Godspeed.”
Abaddon produces a black wheelchair for John; this troubles John.
Abaddon drives while John sits in the back seat.
Abaddon- “Anything you need Mr. Locke, you just let me know. Anything. Anybody from your past you want me to lookup for you? The whole world thinks you‘re dead, Mr. Locke, there must be somebody who‘d be happy to see you.” {Abaddon seems to be baiting/coaching John.}
John- “Please don’t talk to me.”
Abaddon- “You got it.” A shepherd and sheep cross the road in front of them. {Clue to shepherding/coaching/guiding people.}
Abaddon- “But we’re almost at the airport so you’re at least gonna have to tell me where we’re going first.”
John- “Santo Domingo.”
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Construction workers in yellow tee shirts are building structures; there's a Nun with a goat. {No. That’s not the start of a dirty joke! lol}
Sayid sits in the same exact position as the photo Widmore showed Locke. Sayid gives instructions to another man in Spanish. He is working for the Save our World organization. Sayid is told he has a visitor. He sees John Locke in the wheelchair.
Sayid- “I don’t believe this. You actually want me to go back?”
John knows how it sounds, but he has to trust John. This is the only way their gonna save them.
Sayid- “I’m not going back. For two years I was manipulated into thinking I was protecting everyone on the Island.”
John asks who was manipulating him.
Sayid- “Ben. So who is manipulating you, John?”
John lies and says this is coming from him and nobody else. “I know you, Sayid. And deep down in your heart you know we never should have left the Island.”
Sayid explains that it’s only because he left the Island that he was finally able to marry the woman he loved. “We spent nine months together. The best nine months of my life, John. That’s what I know in my heart.”
John- “Where is she now?”
Sayid- “She was murdered.”
John feels bad. Sayid asks him why he really needs to go back, “Is it just because you have nowhere else to go?”
John tells Sayid if he changes his mind he’ll be staying under the name Jeremy Bentham in L.A. at the Westerfield Hotel.
Sayid says with a smile, “And if you change your mind, you’re welcome to come back here and do some real good. Good bye, John.”
New York, NY.
John waits in the car with Abaddon outside of the Fieldcroft School. John would like Abaddon to lookup Helen Norwood; she was living in Los Angles. Abaddon wonders if she’s an old girlfriend of his.
John, drinking coffee, doesn’t answer him.
The school bell rings.
John excitedly asks for help getting out of the car. The kids exit the school building. {Note the Smoking Prohibited By Law sign on the school glass door!}
Abaddon-“So that’s Michael Dawson’s son, huh?”
Yep and the boy’s gotten big!
Waaaaalt, almost sensing John, looks back to indeed make eye contact with John.
Abaddon will give the two some privacy.
John and Walt are happy to see each other; they shake hands. Walt asks what happened.
John says he hurt his leg, “You don’t seem surprised to see me.”
Walt-”I’ve been having dreams about you. You were on the Island wearing a suit. {What kind?} And there were people all around you. They wanted to hurt you, John.”
John makes light of that, “Good thing they’re just dreams.”
Walt- “Is my dad…is he back on the Island? I haven‘t talked to him in three years. I figured he must have gone back.”
{Wouldn’t "special" Walt know that answer?}
John- “Um, last I heard your dad was on a freighter near the Island.” {Good answer!}
Walt’s satisfied with that answer, “So, why’d you come to see me?”
John looks at Walt, “I just wanted to make sure you were OK.”
Walt smiles and tells him, yeah, he’s doing pretty good. “Well, I gotta go. It was good seeing you, John.”
They shake hands again. “Take care.”
These two really look into each other’s eyes the whole time. They share a connection, indeed.
Abaddon comes to retrieve John, “I take it you didn’t invite him along.”
John didn't, as he feels the boy has been through enough.
Abaddon- “That’s O for 2, Mr. Locke. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought you had to bring everyone back.”
John feels he only needs to convince one, and if he can do that, the rest will come. “And maybe I was mistaken but I thought you were my driver {note the NY license plate.}
There, in the distance, standing, watching by a subway entrance is handsomely dressed Ben.
Santa Rosa, Ca.
Hurley sits outside on the lawn at Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute, painting a beautiful piece depicting the Sphinx, people and camels in the desert. {This Sphinx is actually looking left over its shoulder.}
Hurley is wearing the same clothes as he did when he saw Charlie on the lawn. John rolls up to Hugo and says hello.
Hugo, unimpressed, ”So you didn’t make it, huh?”
He is assuming John is dead, because John‘s not the first person to visit him Hugo asks what‘s up with the wheelchair.
John promises him he is very much alive, even though he broke his leg falling down a hole.
Hugo asks nurse Suzie if he’s talking to a dude in a wheelchair.
Suzie confirms that he is indeed talking to a dude in a wheelchair.
Hugo freaks, “Yo, dude! What are you doing here?”
John is there to tell Hugo he needs him to come back to the Island with him. And not just him, but everybody who left. {Does Charlie, Eko, Libby, Anna Lucia and gang all count too?}
Hugo- “Sorry, dude. I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Jack’s a Doctor now, and Sun’s like got her baby, and Kate’s got Aaron.”
Hugo sees Abaddon and tells Locke to be cool, warning Locke they’re being watched.
Locke- “Don’t worry. He’s with me. He’s just driving me around. He‘s okay.”
Hugo shares with Locke, “That dude is far from okay. When I first got locked up in here, he showed up claiming that he worked for Oceanic Air. He’s EVIL. You should not be trusting that guy!”
Locke begs him to listen to him.
Hugo gets up, and just like with Charlie’s visit, he plugs his ears and tries to block out Locke, “La la la la la. I wanna go back in. I wanna go back in! No. I‘m not going anywhere with you! Go away! Bye! Get out a here!”
The two nurses take Hugo away.
Locke looks back at a disappointed Abaddon.
In the car Abaddon says, “That’s three visits now. You may wanna step up your game Mr. Locke or we’re all in serious trouble.“
Locke asks Matthew what exactly does he do for Mr. Widmore.
Abaddon turns off the car, turns to Locke and asks if he’s ready to talk about it. “John, you’re not really gonna pretend you don’t remember that I was an orderly in the hospital right after your accident. That I was the one who told you to go on that walkabout. The same walkabout that put you on the plane that crashed on that Island.”
John remembers.
Abaddon- “I help people get to where they need to get to, John. That‘s what I do for Mr. Widmore.” John just looks at him.
Los Angeles, Ca.
John is in Kate’s house trying to talk her into coming back. He asks if she cares about the people who will die on the Island.
Kate asks if he’s ever been in love. She shares that she thinks about him sometimes, “Think about desperate you were to stay on that Island. And then I realized, it was all because you didn’t love anybody.”
John smiles and tells her that’s not true as he loved a woman named Helen. It just didn’t work out.
Kate-“Why not, John?”
John- “I was angry. I was…Ob-Obsessed.”
Kate quietly says, “And look how far you’ve come.”
John looks troubled.
John wheels himself outside of Kate’s house and asks Abaddon if he found Helen Norwood.
Abaddon says he didn’t, “Three years is a long time. It’s possible she got married, changed her name, maybe she moved out of state.”
John notes that he found everyone else. All of them! “Sayid was in the middle of nowhere, but you can’t find Helen because she moved. Your job is to get people to where they need to get to, well I need to get to her.”
Santa Monica, Ca.
Thunder rolls.
Abaddon brings John to Helen’s grave marker. He tells John she died of a brain aneurysm. {Really!?} In memory of Helen Norwood. June 30, 1957-April 08, 2006.
John states that Helen loved him, “If I had just,…We could have been together.”
Abaddon- “Maybe you could have. That wouldn‘t change anything. She’d still be gone.”
John-“Would she?”
Abaddon tells John Helen’s where she’s supposed to be, “As sad as it is, her path led here. And your path, no matter what you did or what you do, your path leads back to the island.”
John- “You say that as if it’s all inevitable.”
Abaddon tells him Widmore told him that Richard Alpert said you were going to die. “So tell me, John, is that inevitable? Or is it a choice?”
John-”You think I wanna die? How’s that…how could you possibly think that‘s a choice?”
Abaddon smirks, “Hey. I’m just your driver.”
John looks at the grave marker again.
John sits in the backseat and waits while Abaddon puts the wheelchair in the trunk. Abaddon is gunned down! Locke manages to get the car moving! He runs red light, drives right into an intersection and crashes with another car. {Three cars total} John’s knocked out.
Saint Sebastian’s Hospital.
John wakes up in a hospital bed.
Slightly bearded Jack sits watching him, “What are you doing here?”
Locke looks pleased and asks Jack how he found him.
Jack tells him he “was in a car accident and was brought into my hospital. What are you doing here?”
John tells Jack “We have to go back.” He tells jack the people they left behind need their help. “We’re supposed to go back.”
Jack- “Because it’s our destiny. How many times are you gonna say that to me, John?”
John asks him how can he not see it. John thinks it’s more than a coincidence he ended up in Jack’s hospital.
Jack lets him know that his accident was on the west side of L.A. and his being brought there was probability not fate.
John tells him it wasn’t an accident; someone’s trying to kill him. The reason is because “they” don’t want John to succeed, they want to stop him. They don’t want him to get back because he’s important.
Jack gets emotional, “Have you ever stopped to think that these delusions that you’re special aren’t real? That maybe there’s nothing important about you at all. Maybe you’re just a lonely old man that crashed on an Island. That’s it. Good bye, John.”
John- “Your father says hello.”
John explains the man who told him to move the Island and bring them all back, said to say hello. He must be Jack’s father as he wasn’t anyone else’s father. “He said his name was Christian.”
Jack is stunned. Jack says his father is dead three years; he put him in the coffin.
John- “Well, he didn’t look dead to me.” {Or me either.}
John raises his voice and tells him he has to come back, “You’re the only one who can convince the rest of em. You have to help me. You‘re supposed to help me.”
Jack insists it’s over, done! “We left! We were never important. So, you leave me alone. And you leave the rest of em alone!”
Jack leaves.
The shitty Westerfield Hotel. Beat and broken John, in his wheelchair, writes Jack a note.
Jack
I wish you had believed me.
J _
He puts the letter in a white envelope {Jack Shephard} in his back pocket. He looks at the cell phone and tosses it in the trash. {Why doesn't he call Widmore?!}
John looks up at a hole in the ceiling. We see John’s four toes sticking out of his cast. He takes a RED power cord out of the Angels Hardware bag. He ties the power cord to the radiator, stands on the table and makes the hole in the ceiling bigger, pulling tiles down. {Looks more like a hole to get out of.}
He hangs the power cord from a beam in the hole, then actually snips the power cord to tie a noose.
He puts the power cord around his neck and as he’s about to shove off…But in perfect timing Ben knocks on the door.
Ben kicks in door #7 and wants John to STOP!
Confused John asks how he found him. Ben reveals he has a man watching Sayid; He’s watching all of them, keeping them safe. “When you turned up, he called me.”
John freaks, asks “Who? What are you doing here? What do you want from me?”
Ben claims he’s trying to protect him. John realizes it was Ben who shot Abaddon.
Ben admits he did, “But it was only a matter of time before he try to kill you. I was trying to get to you, but you drove off and crashed. He was working for Charles Widmore, he’s extremely dangerous.”
John tells him Widmore came to him; he saved him.
Ben tells John Widmore used him. Waited for John to show up so John could help Widmore get to the Island. “Charles Widmore is the reason I moved the Island! So that he could never find it again. To keep him away so that you could lead.”
Ben approaches Locke, insisting he can’t do this, “If anything happens to you, John, you have no idea how important you are. Let me help you.”
John starts to cry, “There is no helping me. I’m, I’m a failure.”
John feels this because he couldn’t get any of them to come back with him. “I can’t lead anyone.”
Ben tells him Jack booked a plane ticket from L.A. to Sydney tonight, return trip first thing in the morning. Whatever John said to him worked, and if he got Jack, he’ll get the rest of them.
Ben kneels down in front of Locke still perched on the table and says, “John. You can’t die. You’ve got too much work to do. We’ve got to get you back to that Island so that you can do it.”
John cries.
Ben unties the power cord from the radiator and offers John his hand, “Please, John. Come on. Come down.”
Ben helps John down and John cries.
Ben continues on with his Rah-Rah speech. “You haven’t even been to Sun yet. Let's start with her.”
John tells him he promised Jin he wouldn’t bring her back.
Ben questions, “Jin is alive?”
John tells him Jin’s wishes are not to tell her he’s alive. Jin made up a story about his body washing up on the beach. ”He gave me his wedding ring to prove it.”
Ben’s wheels are turning, “All right. A promise is a promise.”
John thanks Ben.
Ben takes off his jacket and helps John walk, “Let’s go."
Ben mentions again that they can do this. Once they get them all in the same place…He doesn’t know where they go from there, but they’ll figure something out. Ben gathers up the power cord.
John reveals he knows where to go, “There’s a woman here in Los Angeles.”
John doesn’t know exactly where, she shouldn’t be hard to find. Her name is Eloise Hawking.
Ben asks if he’s sure. Ben confirms he knows her.
Ben strangles John with the power cord. John’s out.
We see John’s hanging shadow. Ben is cleaning up the place; removing fingerprints. He takes Jin’s ring and looks up at hanging John, “I’ll miss ya, John. I really will.”
Night:
Caesar sits at the desk reading through some blue Hydra files.
John enters, “That symbol belongs to an organization called The Dharma Initiative. They were conducting some experiments here a while back.”
When asked how he knows this, John replies, “I spent more than 100 days on this Island. I know a lot.” {On that Island? Not the Main Island? WTF?!}
Caesar- “100 days? So when we crash, you were already here?”
No,he left.
Caesar- “How long ago did you leave?”
John- “The timing would just, confuse ya.”
Caesar- “How did you get back?”
John- “To be honest, that parts a bit of a mystery to me.”
Caesar has a mystery too; maybe John can help him with it.
He tells John, on the plane he was sitting across the aisle from that really big guy with the curly hair, the plane started shaking, there was a big noise and a bright light, and this really big guy with curly hair was gone. It wasn’t only him who was gone. Some of them saw it happen to other people too. He asks Mr. John Locke, “Do you have an idea about what happened?”
John- “I think I might know how I came to be here.” But that would involve John finding his friends, “Do you have a passenger list?”
Nope, the pilot took it when he ran off.
John asks if everyone’s accounted for, other than the ones who disappeared.
Caesar takes John to a room holding the people who got hurt.
There’s sleeping Ben.
John- “He’s the man who killed me.”
The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham is a GREAT EPISODE! John’s journey has many layers.
Which side is manipulating John?
Things to Note…Questions to ask…
- Events still feel out of order for me; and "off".
- EYES. Being watched.
- Science.
- Hydra. Water. Creature/Lagoon. Anatomy.
- Experiments. Tests/challenges. Learning. Organizations.
- Dreams. Sleeping. Memory.
- Languages. Linguistics. Symbols.
- Identity. I.D. New I.D.
- Games. Manipulation. Keeping score. Step up your game.
- Maps. Photos. Different lands. Paths. Hole.
- War.
- EXIT. Exile. {Escape Hatch}
- Enter a "command" 2 3. Is it like enter 7 7 ?
- Reset
- SouthField. Fieldcroft. Westerfield.
- Both John and Widmore say the people of the Island "Are my people."
- John uses a RED power cord to hang himself; not a rope.
- Bit. File. Folder. Crash. Driver. Exit. Power cord. = Computers. Don't ya think?
- Emotion. Sad. Anger. Attachment.
- Death. Rebirth.
- Helen's date of death is April 8, which happens to be the day observed by some Buddhists and cultures as the birth of Buddha and Enlightenment.
- Faith.
- Santa Domingo. Santa Rosa. Santa Monica. Saint Sebastian. Angels.
- Yet another “birth date” for Locke/Bentham. 2/15/48.
- Frank lands the plane on the Hydra Island.
- Locke is “alive” on the Hydra Island. He is not on the main Island.
- How long has Jack been flying on Fridays? He already looked like he was on the down slide.
- The N.Y. plate on the car was replaced by a blue and white “Empire State” plate in 2001.
- Damn it! Locke is STILL amendable for coercion.
- Walt should have gone back too.
- Where’s Helen?
- Suicide note is not the same handwriting.
- Even Charlie was hanging “Dead”.
- Caesar seems a bit familiar with the Hydra office. {Ben’s office}
- Ben staged/ cleaned up Bentham’s death scene.
- The people at Santa Rosa can see Hugo’s visitors!!
- Why did Widmore's people protect the Island for three decades? Protect it from what/whom? Who was there before Widmore's people?
- Guide Abaddon looks almost droid-like/synthetic when dead. I’ve said this before about Naomi too.
- Guide. Shepherd. Captain. Conductor. Escort. Guru. Leader. Scout. Teacher. These are important as it is telling us that the castaways are being watched and guided on this journey.
- Apparently Ben has been trying to kill John.
- Jack and Christian. They both now something about being obsessive.
- Consciousness! In the mind. Brain. Thoughts. Think. Mental state. In the HEAD!
- This episode is called the Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, not The Life and Death of John Locke.
* Jeremy Bentham- an English philosopher, legal and social reformer. He became a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law, and a political radical whose ideas influenced the development of welfarism. He is best known for his advocacy of utilitarianism, animal rights and and the idea of the Panopticon. He attended Queens College at Oxford.
* Panopticon- a type of prison building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the incarcerated being able to tell whether they are being watched, thereby conveying what one architect has called the "sentiment of an invisible omniscience."
Bentham himself described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example."
* Locked-In syndrome is a condition in which a patient is aware and awake, but cannot move or communicate due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body. The condition has been described as "the closest thing to being buried alive". Locked-in syndrome is usually the result of quadriplegia and inability to speak in otherwise cognitively intact individuals.
* A map projection is any method of representing the surface of a sphere or other shape on a plane. Map projections are necessary for creating maps.
-The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS)
-In computer/video games, "map" may refer to a level in computer or video games.
-Cognitive map.
* Buddhist Mala Beads: 108 beads representing the human passions. This number also ensures the worshiper repeats the sacred mantra 100 times.
I was personally touched with this episode by watching John's continuing journey. I must share a very strange thought with you...One thing I felt while watching this episode was the sensation the events John was experiencing were there just for "John". Almost as if the people and events were not real, more like little performed vignettes, set forth for the purpose of exercises and testing John in some way. Why would I say this? The Sayid picture working for the organization, then John showing up, it seemed as if that moment was "paused" then "play was pushed again when John was ready.
It's true he was sent on a mission to Repo the people who left the "Island", but along the way we still saw John hoping things would fall into place, all because he knows his destiny is supposed to be something special. But here, even while trying to accomplish this mission, he is distracted by emotion; his heart and feelings of confusion, anger and defeat.
With all nods to "faith" in this episode, "science" and technology was there too. But how is science/technology and games intertwined with all this faith? What are your thoughts on that?
Will John rediscover the "science" side of himself? Will Jack find the "faith" side of himself?
It's very sad, both John and Jack were so lost at one point they chose to take steps to end their own lives.
Are our paths inevitable or a choice?
John's journey continues because he still needs to find himself, just as I am still trying to find myself.
