EXCLUSIVE! More of Ben's Notes. Part 3

Hi Losties!
My friend and fellow Lostie Jooky22, was the winner of Lot #660 in the LOST Auction. His very special winning lot contained Ben's island messenger bag, journal, loose papers and the photo of Ben (that Miles had when we first met him.)

✈ Thank you so very much, Jooky22, for having Karen's LOST Notebook be the conduit in sharing  your wonderful piece of LOST history with the world!  This has been a wonderful opportunity and great fun in continuing my LOST journey.

* A special thank you to the many sites that found Karen's LOST Notebook useful, and Jooky22's generosity for sharing the pages,  and for kindly linking fans back here to view and explore the scans.  We both appreciate that very much!

  • A couple of pages had other pages tucked into its folds.
  • Pages appear to be old, and some aged and/or stained.
  • Handwritten notes are on notebook paper (torn out of  a spiral bound notebook)  and loose leaf paper (college ruled/spaced).
  • Handwriting on notes is different; a few even look like they were written by an adolescent/kid.
  • Notes pertain to Astrology, Astronomy/charts, Math/equations, Reproductive System, Head/Brain, Art (painting/sculpting), Religion, Hindu, Buddhism, Botany, Plants/trees, Fruits, Rocks/stones, Alchemy, Sea-shells, creatures, Animals, Shamanism, Numerology (6),  Languages (Latin)  and   Life-death-rebirth.

Also noted here are my own notes to the notes. (More will be added)
This Honolulu Star Bulletin newspaper was folded (as shown).  It is dated Friday August 25, 2006:
The feature is an article about hurricane Katrina and a scam.  And a political drawing with the "imagery" of Napoleon (Chavez).

EXCLUSIVE! More of Ben's Notes. Part 1

Hi Losties!
A couple of weeks ago my friend and fellow Lostie Jooky22, sent me the very first look at pages from Ben's journal.  I shared the exclusive pages from Ben's journal here for you to have a peek at.
A few days ago Jooky22 mailed me the (many) loose pages of notes that were also part of Ben's messenger bag of goodies to scan.
Of course since this is the site where I post and keep track of my own LOST notes, naturally Jooky22 knew that I had to do some fun investigating into the journal and loose notes to see if there are any connections to the story.

Logically, if someone is paying good money for props to an iconic show that is built on solving a mystery, I had hope that the pages Jooky22 acquired weren't just torn out pages of old irrelevant books and such, just to fill up the "desk set" and/or fill up a bag.
The good news is the loose pages did indeed connect to the many layers of the story.

Now, I know there are many of you out there that do not count anything outside of the "aired" episode as "canon", but I do.   I have fought the "canon" and "continuity" issue for six seasons.   With my investigating the LOST story I have come to find that all bits of information that is sent our way, whether it was via the show itself or ARG's/books/games, etc. Everything always connected to the story, always.     Mind you I understand that it is in a supporting role that the additional information is to be utilized, but it was to be utilized and not just tossed away as some waste of time.    In the LOST universe everything is connected!

Due to the amount of pages I would like to share, they will need to be posted over several posts.

When the journal and loose pages made their way here, I had fun exploring them just as I do with all LOST hints and evidence, as a means to enlightening myself to more of the story.   The pages do connect with clues mentioned in my notes through the years.

So first I want to display the pages from Ben's journal that I highlighted with yellow highlight, as items of interest to me.
  • You will see that again, dates don't connect to a "time reference" and/or certain events seen on "Island".    In my opinion this is nothing new and this may not be just indiscriminate jottings by Michael Emerson.  We all know when Oceanic crashed and the approximate days on "Island" that Ethan and Goodwin "lost their lives".   The pages to Ben's journal weren't part of the story until the end of season 3.   Should we wonder why the erroneous dates in the journal were not taken out/fixed before it made its way to the public.    The constant display of dates/times and events being out of sync have happened all along the path of this story; even into the The New Man in Charge.    This of course reiterates the "only fools are enslaved by time and space" notion.
  • The circling around the letter J:  Since the dates aren't adding up as per the "canon" of the story, do we dare assume the letter J represents Jacob?   Could it mean John or Juliet?  Maybe, just maybe it is referring to Jack.
  • The circle around the letters R and M:  Who could they relate to?   Richard or Rose. Mikhail or Michael.  Think about it, it could be anyone or even no one.
  • The word and imagery pertaining to "sink" is interesting.  Remember it may not be a literal place at all.  It could bring us right back to the writers use of metaphor and symbolism to indicate: sinking deep down into the bowels, emotionally sinking lower and lower/deeper and deeper, hitting bottom, things being out of sync, and/or Mind and Body are out of sync.
  • We hear about "sink" and "sinking" many times over the course of the LOST story; such as in The End  and early on in Raised by Another. (Other episodes as well)
NOTE: THE YELLOW HIGHLIGHTS ARE NOT PART OF THE ORIGINAL PAGES I POSTED FOR YOU.

A note about the additional scanned pages:
    • Many pages were folded in half or in quarters, and one was folded to frame the zodiac.
    • Note dates on pages.
Also noted here are my own notes to the notes.
This handwritten (child-like/student) page (107B/1070-READ READER Study guide) is dated 2/2/05
It gives us hints to portraits (likeness of someone/something), Tromp Loeil {To fool the eye}, counterfeiting, 3-D not 2-D,  and so much more.
This side of the page is fascinating!
Patinir : Renaissance painter of panoramic landscapes.
    Temptation of St. Anthony :
-It has been the subject of famous paintings by Michaelangelo, Dali and many more.
-Hieronymus Bosch painted the famous triptych,  symbolize the story of Anthony's mental and spiritual torments.
-A book by French author Gustave Flaubert in 1872. It is written in the form of a play script.
The chart is drawn on (college ruled/spaced) loose leaf paper:
This plastic bag contained the photo of Ben: We can now see that Ben appears to be standing at a scanning machine, and is holding paper in his hands (possible ticket):
Pages detailing the Head/Skull/Brain:  Imagine that! Wink, wink.

Flashing Back to Special, Homecoming and Outlaws.

    Hi Losties!
For my complete notes and connecting photos, please read my original posts on this site.   I also wanted to mention, in an effort to try to make some things easier to connect to the story,  I've been compiling information I gathered in my notes into one link; Data and Evidence. You will find that tab at the top of the site.

Thanks for sharing in my LOSTNESS!

    Special:
This is a great episode. We see that Michael is on a quest to find Walt.  At this point Walt's role of defiant son is testing Michael's role as "dad".   Walt is very taken by Mr. Locke, and Locke by him. So Mr. Locke takes Walt under his wing.
One important thing I discovered with this episode is that the viewers automatically assumed it is Walt that "summoned" the image of the polar bear, and that very well may be, but we must note that it is angry Michael who rips the comic book out of Walt's hands, throws it into the fire and watches it burn.

There is much to discover in this episode.

Excerpt from my full notes on the episode "Special":
In the jungle Locke hands Walt a knife.
Boone and Vincent {Collar/leash.} are watching.
Walt throws the knife at the tree and it doesn’t penetrate it.
    Walt-“Man, I suck!”
Locke-“You can do better than that.”
    Boone-“You might want to take it easy on him.” {On whom?}
Locke explains-"See this knot Walt…I want you to aim for it. Right here. Focus on it…alright? Picture it…in your mind's eye. You know what that is, the mind's eye?”
Walt knows it’s like a picture in your head.
    Locke tells him to do it again but, “See it. See it before you do it. Visualize the path. See it. See it.” {It's kind of like using the force, like a Jedi. Also note Locke touches Walt’s hand.}
Walt focuses. We get a shot of Vincent. Walt throws the knife and sticks his mark! Boone is impresses and Locke knew Walt had it in him.
Walt-“It was weird. I actually saw it in my mind or something, like it was real.”
Locke- “Who's to say it wasn’t?”

    Homecoming:
The questions that plague the Castaways carry on.
Claire is returned back to her people, minus her memory.  This episode constantly brings up three continuing key clues; "Drugs"..."sleep"..."wake up".

Excerpt from my full notes on the episode "Homecoming"Charlie gives Claire her journal to help her remember. “And this is where you sleep. It’s quite cozy, isn’t it?”
    Claire doesn’t say anything.
Charlie asks when he, “Ethan. When he took you away...He took me too. The others came after us. They got me back but you...you were gone.”
    Claire-“Who is he? Ethan.”
Charlie thinks as if he’s trying to find the right answer and then replies, “Ethan’s the bad guy.”
Claire looks a little confused and confirms she and Charlie were together when...
    Charlie says yeah.
Claire wonders why he left Charlie. Charlie suggests they leave that lovely story for the morning as she’s had enough for one day.
    Claire-“I won’t be sleeping.”
That’s lucky for Charlie because he’s not much of a sleeper himself. “Finally I’ve have someone to stay up with.”
    Claire questions, “We’re friends?”
    Yep, they are friends.

    Outlaws:
Here we see the concept of Karma, loop/doing this before, dreams/consciousness, being dead and coming back to life, no ID/identity, guiding, and trying to find out the answer to "Who am I?".
This episode also shows us the struggles Sawyer has when a "boar" acts as the bully.  The boar taunts Sawyer to the point of revenge.  When push comes to shove we see who Sawyer is.

It is very important to note how this episode connects to Jack.

Excerpt from my full notes on the episode "Outlaws"

    Sawyer and Kate walk through the jungle. He takes comfort in knowing someday this is all gonna be a real nice shopping complex; maybe even an auto mall.  Kate discovers a wallow. {Mud hole}
Sawyer- “What the hell’s a wallow?”
Kate- “A boar’s wallow?  It’s his den where he sleeps.”
Sawyer hears the squeals of a baby boar and captures it.
Now Sawyer knows “daddy’s gotta be around here.  Here piggy, piggy, piggy!!”
Sawyer taunts, calling for the “piggy” while Kate is trying to get him to put the baby down; she fears he’s gonna hurt it.
Kate-“Not funny!” and she kicks him. The baby boar runs away.
    Kate- “You’re sick!”
    Sawyer didn’t hurt it.
Kate walks away and tells him to “Find your own way home.”
    Sawyer-“No problem!”

    Pages from Ben's Journal

    Hi Losties!

Some great LOST insight was sent my way and I was asked to pass it along to you.  It is an honor to do it!!

Fellow Lostie Jooky22 was at the LOST Auction and was the winner of Lot #660 which contained Ben's Island Messenger Bag, journals and the photos of Ben (that Miles had when we first met him.
The bag is as awesome, but what really got Jooky22 was Ben's journal.
We saw Ben writing in this journal before being interrupted by a walkie-talkie call in the episode Through the Looking Glass.
Here is a note from Jooky22:
"There are screencaps of the two visible pages on Lostpedia but they're not quite correct. More importantly, there are four "other" pages that Michael Emerson wrote, and they are far more interesting. Death notes, supply discussions and an ominous reference and drawing of something called a "Deep Dark Sink".  On the commentary for the episode you can hear them talking about the journal and Michael talks about writing stuff in there that had to be vetted by the producers to make sure it fit the narrative. Awesome stuff!"

Thank you SO very much Jooky22 and Brooke for sharing the very first look at this wonderful LOSTNESS!!

Flashing Back to All the Best Cowboys...,Whatever the Case...,Hearts and Minds

Hi Losties! It is important for you to have access to my original detailed notes for each of the episodes. These episodes contain some very important things that set a thread for all the other episodes.
Click here for detailed notes on
All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues
    Whatever the Case May Be
    Hearts and Minds

When I first shared my notes with LOST fans years ago I was always careful to present the episode and its potential clues in a very neutral way, always including the many ways one could look at a clue and never outright told anyone what to think or which way to lean. I also was cautious not to publically go too deep into certain ideas I personally entertained. Well with this re-watch I find I am much more comfortable to voice my opinion on the story and its clues and with no holds barred, confidently reinforcing some of the important layers and their clues.

An important point I have never ignored is that Jack and the Castaways are in an unreal world. {Unreal world as opposed to a real world.}  One definition of "reality" is something that truly exists is real.
Jack, John and the Castaways are experiencing things that resemble an authentic environment even if it's via the sleeping/conscious mind. Therefore these experiences are real to Jack, John and the Castaways, as this is the way they perceive it.
For me there is no doubt their adventurous journey to enlightenment is happening in conjunction with drugs, lucid dreaming, and the possible added element of computers and/or machines.  In other words, an altered state of consciousness.

One of the layers of the LOST story is about the Castaways being trapped by their emotional past and their needing to come to terms with moving forward from it.   It is important to know anything that the mind creates is a "trap".  Unless you stop blaming others, including yourself, for the state you are in, you are not awake.

A few important things I wanted to add to my original note for All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues are:
✈ We know Jack is stubborn and definitely angry, and although we tend to see Jack motivated and in control on the "Island" and with his friends, he really is always on the verge of snapping.

✈ In this episode Jack's "Island" adventure has him trying to find Claire and Charlie but in "reality" he is literally running in circles trying to find answers, his father and himself.

✈ In the hospital scruffy Jack with different color eyes, wasn't called down to do the surgery yet Christian was called away from a restaurant after having a few.  When I first saw this episode it passed my mind that it is possible that between Jack and Christian its Christian that is the lesser evil.

    ✈ Amping up her stress

    ✈ L-Limits-License-Life

        A- Alcohol

        T- Time

✈ Locke follows his gut. Locke feels "it"!  With that it's time for a quick lesson on Chakras. We have hints to Chakras throughout the story.  Locke even teaches Walt to use his mind's eye to visual things.

Chakras: word that translates as "wheel" or "turning".   The Chakras are said to be "force centers" or whorls of energy permeating, from a point on the physical body

Chakras are typically depicted in two ways:
    1. Flower-Like: a specific number of petals are shown around the perimeter of a circle
    2. Wheel-Like: a certain number of spokes divide the circle into segments that make the chakra resemble a wheel or chakra.  Each chakra possesses a specific number of segments or petals.

    7 primary Chakras:
Muladhara-Base or Root Chakra (ovaries/prostate) RED
Swadhisthana- Sacral Chakra (last bone in spinal cord *coccyx*) ORANGE
Manipura- Solar Plexus Chakra (navel area) YELLOW
Anahata -Heart Chakra (heart area) GREEN and "High Heart" is TURQUOISE
Vishuddha- Throat Chakra (throat and neck area) BLUE
Ajna- Brow or Third Eye Chakra (pineal gland or third eye) VIOLET
Sahasrara-Crown Chakra (Top of the head) WHITE

    Whatever the Case May Be
Here is an excerpt from my posted notes for Whatever the Case May Be.  Be sure to head over to read about this very interesting case.
Faith comes back around. Rose is a supporter of faith. She's trying to give Charlie some hope. She's trying to help him come out of another dark place. Remember Locke helped him get out of a dark place with his heroin addiction.
What else comes back around? It's very simple...everything. Karma.
I wonder if it really is better on Rose's side.

I can't help but note and question if the "Island" residents are under some sort of therapy/treatment with this Island adventure.  After all, all these people are feeling "blue" and  need some kind of help.
It does seem like hints may be telling us computers are involved in some way.

    Hearts and Minds
I love the episode Hearts and Minds.  It gives us a clear clue to drugs and altered states of consciousness playing a role in the "Island" journey.

Locke gave Boone an experience that he believes is vital to his survival on that "Island".  Boone questions the "reality" of  his "very real feeling experience".
Locke is very clear in stating “It was only as real as you made it.”

The point to this enlightening experience was for Boone to confront his feelings for Shannon and his freedom of letting her go.
Boone's experience includes the "monster" and all of its mechanical sounds.   But you must remember, there's no such thing as monsters.

    Until next time...
Love to all who are "LOST"™
