Numbers.

Let's talk about LOST.    Numbers.

(Click the pics)

Waves are crashing.
Jin {Handcuff. Holding a group of long wires/twine} is trying to communicate to Hurley to hold the bamboo together so he can tie it.
Hurley misunderstands him thinking he wants to make snowballs.

Michael interjects, "He wants you to hold the bamboo tighter...I think." {Come on, he understands Jin.}
Jack walks over to see how things are 'coming', "As long as nobody sabotages this one as well huh?"
Michael assures him he has people standing guard 24/7, "Nobody gets near this with or without intent to burn."
Michael mentions to Jack the chances of a passing ship spotting this raft out there are pretty slim, they could use something to send out a distress call to any ships that might be close, "Like an S O S."
Jack will ask Sayid but even if he can make something like that he's not gonna have anything to power it with.
Hurley-"Didn't Sayid say that crazy French chick had batteries?"

Sayid, "Absolutely not!"
Jack isn't asking Sayid to go, he'll do it.
Sayid- "No you won't."
Upset Sayid asks them, "Do you really think that she would give up something she needs for survival to a total stranger?"
All Jack is asking his how to find her.    Sayid explains he was brought unconscious to her camp, when he escaped he was disoriented, "I don't know how to find her."
Hurley-"Don't know, dude, or don't want to?"
This annoys Sayid.
Jack says Sayid has her maps and her papers and he thought they were pointing to something.
Sayid-"Well I was wrong."
Jack suggests maybe they're pointing to her.
Sayid grabs up the papers in anger, "I don't even know what these papers mean!  For all I know they can be the ravings of her disturbed mind!  Song lyrics mixed with equations!"
He hands the papers off to Hurley.
Sayid shows Jack a map, "If this map is pointing to her then you should know she resides here in this area.  She gave it a name, Territoire Fonce.   Shannon translated it.   It means Dark Territory.   Does that sound like a place you'd like to visit?"
Jack-"So you won't help."
Sayid didn't say that; he'll build the distress beacon but he suggests they find another power source. He feels there must be something in the cockpit.   Jack says they're not going to the cockpit.
All the while Hurley is starring at the numbers on the small sheets of lined notepaper.

Channels are being switched on the TV.
It's Hugo sitting on the couch eating some chicken from a Mr. Clucks bucket.   His mother calls from the kitchen that she hopes he isn't watching those g-string mujeres again.   While Hurley's mom wants him living there, he wants his privacy respected. {Channels show dancing, exercising, hockey, cop chase}
Hurley lands on the channel to watch the Mega Lotto drawing.   His religious mother comes in complaining, "Look at you...It's Saturday night, a grown up man sitting at home watching TV. You should go out and try to find a nice woman.
Hurley-"I'll get right on that."
Mom wants him to eat better because he's gaining weight.    Annoyed Hurley watches Mary Jo, the Lotto girl, display the winning balls.

The Mega Number is 42, "And that makes tonight's Mega Lotto Jackpot drawing, 4 8 15 16 23 with the Mega Number 42."

The winner has won a near record Jackpot.  {Jack.lol}
The TV announcer is heard saying, "That's right, Mary Jo, because this is the 16th week without a winner."
Hurley faints. {Crashing/Smashing glass can be heard.}

Sayid is sleeping while Hurley is sitting there watching him.
Sayid stirs.
Hurley-"Hi. You awake?"
Sayid-"I was just wondering that myself."  {Well, are you or aren't you?}
Hurley is there with the maps and papers that the French lady wrote.   Sayid wants to know what Hurley wants since it's the middle of the night.
Hurley- "I couldn't sleep.  And I got curious.    You and Shannon...you guys have been trying to figure out some of this stuff and...I was wondering, what...you know...you guys figured out...about this stuff."
Sayid's still laying there, "What stuff?"
Hurley's curious about the numbers she wrote down a bunch of times, "Got any idea what it means?"
Sayid thought at one time they may be coordinates of some kind.
Hurley- "Coordinates...yeah. When you first found her, the French chick, you said you saw a wire or something in the beach and you followed it and it led you to her."
Sayid corrects him, "No. It led me in to a trap she set."
Hurley assumes the place is probably close.  Sayid asks why he's so suddenly interested in Rousseau.
Hurley says he's not, "I'm just making conversation, dude.  Sorry if it's a bad time."
Hurley puts the maps and papers back and says goodnight.

Walking from the tent we see Hurley hid one of the large papers under his shirt.

Camera flashing {Boom mics, video cameras}:
Hurley and his family are in the middle of a large press conference.    News/media are there to inquire about his winning the Lotto.   KSVU 8 asks how he came up with the winning numbers, "Any significance?"
Hurley says they kind a came to him.   Another reporter wants him to introduce his family.  Hurley introduces his bashful beauty mom, Carmen.  Then introduces his very excited brother Diego and his wife Lisa.
Diego-"Yeah! We're rich!"
Hurley tells the press to ignore him, "He's an idiot."
Hurley really wants them to meet the greatest guy he knows, his grandpa Tito.  Grandpa Tito's worked three jobs for 52 years.   He's 70 years old and the closest he's been to a vacation is when they put a pacemaker in him four years ago.  The first thing Hurley's gonna do with the money is finally give him the rest he's earned, "That's all it's about for me. To be able to do things for the people I care about.   Cause I really put my family through a lot recently and umm...well this way I can make it up to them.  You know, maybe even buy my mom a new house.  Maybe after uh, my grandpa comes back from his cruise he can...get to do some of the things we've always wanted too."
Grandpa Tito grabs his left arm and collapses. {You can hear the camera's continue flashing.}
{Flash Whoosh}
At the cave Hurley fills up water bottles.
Charlie walks over, "Hey, man."
Hurley is startled, "What?! I'm not doing anything."
Charlie- "What?"
Hurley-"What?"
Charlie's just saying good morning.  He asks if Hurley's going anywhere.  Hurley is loading the bottles of water into his backpack, "Well, yeah. I just thought I might take a walk. Uh...maybe scope out some new fishing area."
Charlie wants him to hang on; he'd like to "come with."
Hurley tells him he could really use some alone time right now.  He lifts the pack and the pack opens up spilling the bottles on to the ground.   Hurley puts them back in and tells Charlie, "I'm a big guy...I get dehydrated easy."
Charlie seems baffled by Hurley's behavior.

Waves crash:
Claire sits on the beach.  Locke calls for her; he's wondering if she's free to help him with a little project. "I'm building something, I could use an extra pair of hands."
Claire is nearly nine months pregnant; she can barely waddle over the beach.
Locke-"Can you hold a saw?"
Yeah, she can.
Locke-"Can you move your hand back and forth like this?" {He makes a sawing motion.}
She "possibly" can.
Perfect. He holds out both hands to help her up.
Claire asks, "So what exactly are we building?"
Locke doesn't answer.

At the cave Sayid angrily asks Jack where the map is, "I told you it won't help you find her.   Jack tells him to slow down; he doesn't have the map.
Sayid- "What makes this worse is you won't even do your own dirty work.   You get Hurley to do it for you!...He was in my tent last night quizzing me about Rousseau, about numbers she wrote, how I came to find her."
Jack doesn't know anything about this.  Jack asks firewood carrying Charlie if he's seen Hurley.
Charlie- "A couple of hours ago.   He was heading out for a walk.   Acting like a loon, I might say."
Concerned Sayid realizes Hurley's going after her.   Jack's disappointed.

"When are you gonna be back?" Shannon asks Sayid.
Sayid feels they can catch up to him before nightfall, "Why? You worried about me?"
Shannon- "So what if I am?"
Jack yells over asking Sayid if he's ready.  Sayid takes his backpack and tenderly touches Shannon's face, "I'll be fine."

Hurley treks across the beach {Rap tune plays}
{Flash Whoosh}
The rap tune continues playing loudly.
Well off Hurley drives a yellow Hummer H2.   His mom is the passenger.
The tune continues playing and mom says loudly, "Hugo turn that noise down!"
Hugo turns down the volume,"Sorry."
Mom wants to know where he's taking her; she doesn't like surprises.
Hugo thinks she'll like this one; she deserves something good since Grandpa and that at the funeral Father Agular got struck by lightning in that freak storm, and Diego moving back home after Lisa left him for that waitress.   Hugo feels that ever since we won the lottery they've had bad luck like the money is cursed; although these Catholics don't believe in curses.

Approaching the surprise for his mom, Hugo has her blindfold herself with a red bandanna. They pull up to the curb and Hugo carefully helps blindfolded mom out the hummer.  Mom asks why she has to wear this, she can't see anything.
He tells her to take off her blindfold and take a look at her new dream house.
Mom slips on the curb and hurts her ankle.    Mrs. Ryes removes her blind fold, {He told her she can take off her blindfold} and as she's crying out in pain then she smells smoke.   There is a fire in an upstairs room of the new home.
Hugo calls 911 and before he can finish dialing, two cop cars pull up and draw their guns on him. "Drop the phone! Move away from the vehicle!"
Hugo tries to tell them it's the house.
As Hugo's getting cuffed he says to him mom who is blessing herself, "No such thing as curses, huh, ma?"
The mustached cop tells Hugo he has the right to remain silent....

Hurley comes upon a thick power cord in the sand. It runs from the water into the jungle.   He picks it up and calls out for the French chick. {It's not a telephone! Is it?}

 Hurley keeps hold of the power cord and follows it into the jungle.
{Flash Whoosh}

 "I would think you'd be happy, every one of your stocks is up. Your interest in orange futures skyrocketed after those tropical storms hit Florida.
And you are now the majority share holder for a box company in Tustin."
Hugo looks out the window to the street below.   He is in the office of his financial advisor/accountant.   His advisor feels a box company is a lucrative business. "Everybody needs boxes."
Which reminds him Hugo's sneaker factory in Canada was destroyed in a fire last month. Hugo's not surprised.
The advisor thinks Hugo may have read about it, "8 something people died.  But the good news is we over insured it.   It's gonna wield you a windfall of cash.   And when we add in the generous settlement from the L.A.P.D. for your false arrest you almost doubled your net worth in a few short months.  I still can't imagine how the police mistook you for a drug dealer."
Hugo blurts out, "Bad Luck."
The advisor informs him he's not the first lottery winner to feel the money brought him nothing but trouble, "It's all in your head."
Hugo wonders if this guy doesn't believe in jinx's/curses.   The advisor only believes in numbers.  By the way, the advisor wants to know where he got the numbers from, "Somebody's birthday? Phone number?"
Hugo-"Nothing. It's just something that I...."
A light bulb goes on; he has an epiphany, "It's not the money. It's the numbers. The numbers are cursed."
The advisor doesn't buy it.
Hugo-"Dude. Don't look at me like that, I'm not crazy. This is real..."
Just as the advisor is telling him there's no such thing as a curse, a man is falling past their window. {Scream.}
{Flash Whoosh}

Michael in his orange shirt bangs away on building the raft.  This noise is hurting Sawyer's head.
Sawyer is reading A Wrinkle in Time.
Sawyer yells sarcastically over to Michael, "You wanna hit that a little harder?!"
Michael-"Oh I'm sorry. Is my building a raft to get us rescued bothering you?"
At the moment it is. Walt asks Sawyer why he isn't helping.
Sawyer tells Short Round he's helping by keeping watch for arsonists.   Michael feels Walt's got a point; he could pitch in, "Seeing as you already bought your ticket."
Just then one of the tied together bundles of bamboo loosens and the bamboo sticks tumble.   Jin starts yelling at Michael in Korean.   The two men yell at each other. {I still feel they understand each other.} Annoyed Sawyer leaves.
Sun watches the two men yell from further down the beach.   She shares with Kate she feels he's never going to speak to her again.   Kate feels he just needs time.   Sun knows she's humiliated him.
Sun asks Kate, "When the raft sails, do you think he's going to leave with them?"
Kate doesn't know.

Hurley continues to use the power cord as a guide into the jungle. The buzzing sound of flies makes him look up to find there is a dead hanging boar that has been captured by a trap.
Hurley continues on.
He steps on something with a slight metal sound. As he's about to take another step Sayid yells to him, "Don't move!" He's standing on a pressure trigger.
Sayid-, "If you take your weight off it, it will release that. {The other spiked end of the trap. Wow! It's like Indiana Jones!} They need to find something to replace his weight on the trigger.
Hurley asks if he can drop the wire.
Charlie suggests they find a big rock.
Hurley drops the wire and nothing happens.  The guys still insist, "Don't move!"
But Hurley feels he can make it, "I can get out of the way. I'm spry."
The guys start to freak out with Hurley's intention to make a move off the trigger.
Hurley jumps off the trigger and the spiked weapon misses him!
Charlie yells at Hurley, "What the bloody hells wrong with you?!"
Nothing is wrong with him.  {Hurley believed he can cross it unharmed and he did! He has the power!}
Jack asks him what he's doing out here.   Hurley reveals he came to get a  battery.
As if Jack doesn't buy that he asks, "Seriously...what's going on?"
Hurley- "Nada. You guys coming?"
Sayid concedes that they all want to go, but he'll take the lead.
Sayid grabs hold of the power cord.
Charlie feels that's an excellent notion.
{Flash Whoosh}
"Lenny. His name is Lenny...or Leonard"
Hurley is at the psychiatric admissions counter of Santa Rosa Mental Instit.... Hugo doesn't know Lenny's last name but he just needs to talk to him for five minutes.   Hugo watches a janitor climb a very wobbly ladder.
The nurse can't look anything up without the man's name."How many Leonard's are here?"
Hugo wants her to type it in and look it up, "I mean the guy's been here for like...ever.  He knows me."
The nurse tells him their records are private.
Hugo yells out to the wobbly dude on the ladder, "Do not do that right now! Leave the bulb for another time, man!"
Hugo starts to raise his voice to the nurse about needing five minutes with Lenny as a doctor recognizes Hugo.
Hugo-"Oh, hey Doc."
The doctor says its good to see him and asks what he's doing back here.

In the rec room the doctor mentions to Hugo he doesn't remember he and Leonard being that close.
Hugo-"We hung."
The doctor will leave the gentlemen to it then and he wishes Hugo good luck.

Lenny sits at a table alone dropping the markers into the filthy Connect 4 game.
He is repeatedly mumbling something unclear in cadence.
Hugo walks up to the oblivious twitching Lenny, "Hey, Lenny. Remember me?"
Lenny does not deviate from his obsessive repeating.
Hugo says, "Hugo." {A voice can be heard "Hurley" although it does not sound like Hugo and we don't see this coming from Hurley's mouth.}
Hurley asks Lenny, "I gotta know...What do the numbers mean?"
Now Lenny's mumble becomes clear, "4-8-15-16-23-42" {Note smoke detector over the door}
Hurley drops a red marker into the game and asks Lenny where he got the numbers and is that why he's here.
{Lenny's black cord for his glasses looks more like a wire. BTW, in a mental hospital they would not allow patients to have anything they could hurt someone or themselves with.}
Hugo continues, "Did they do something to you?  Cause I think they did something to me. I think they turned me into a jinx.   Bad news to everyone around me.  And when I tell people I think I'm the cause they, they look at me like I'm nuts. They don't believe me.  But I know...ever since I won the lottery with those numbers."
This statement snaps Lenny out of his repeating world.
Lenny speaks! "You used those numbers to play the lottery?"
Lenny freaks out, "You shouldn't have done that. {He grabs his head} You've opened the box! You shouldn't have used the numbers!...It doesn't stop!...You gotta get away from those numbers! You gotta get far, far away! Do you hear me?! Don't you understand?! You gotta get away from them or it won't stop!"
An orderly tries to restrain the freaked out patient, but Hugo wants answers.
Lenny grabs at his head again.   Hugo asks where he got the numbers.
Lenny happens to be coherent enough to clearly inform Hugo that he got them from Sam Toomey. Sam heard them in Kagoorlie, in a town where they used to work in Australia.
Lenny is dragged out of the room by the orderly.

"It stops here.  It goes into the ground.  This poses somewhat of a problem."
Sayid shows the guys where the wire disappears.
Charlie has something the guys need to see. He leads them to their next obstacle; the rickety narrow bridge that is their connecting path to the other side. They are very high up.

Jack says to Sayid, "You never mentioned anything about a bridge."
Sayid never saw this before.
Jack notes there's no way she could have built this all by herself.
Sayid-"No. But her team could have. "
Charlie-"Or Ethan's team." {HUH?! WTF?!! WOW!}
Hurley starts to make his way across the shitty bridge, "Relax. I'm just gonna check it out. You guys should stay here."
Jack's freaking out "Hurley! Get back here!"
Hurley-"Dudes! Chill!" {lol. hear the crow.} Carefully, he makes it across. The guys are relieved. If Hurley can do it so can Charlie; he heads across. {Charlie's wearing his black and white Vans.} As he approaches the finish line the bridge breaks but Charlie makes it to the other side.
Exhilarated Charlie is okay.
Jack yells over to them to stay put; he and Sayid will find a way around and we'll meet you there. Screw that! Calm Hurley tells them to stay because there's a path right here... Charlie snaps and yells at Hurley to shut up and listen to Jack to "Stay put! You're acting like a bloody lunatic!
{Flash Whoosh}

Crow caws.
A house sits in the middle of nowhere.
 Five knocks on the door, an Australian woman answers, "If this weren't in the middle of nowhere, I'd say you were lost."
This is Sam Toomey's wife, Martha Toomey. Sam's been dead for four years.
Hurley shares with Martha that Sam worked with a guy he knows, Leonard Simms. Martha mentions they served together in the U.S. Navy. {File cabinet, ship, binoculars.}
Martha serves tea, "How is Leonard? Still in the service?"
Hugo says he's retired.  He goes on to say that Lenny told him about Sam hearing something. Martha's annoyed he's talking about the numbers.  She reveals that Sam and Lennard were stationed at a listening post monitoring long wave transmissions over the Pacific.  It was a boring job and Sam hated it, "Nothing to do but listen to static...night after night.  Till one night 'bout 16 years ago, there's something in the static.  A voice comes through.  A voice repeating those numbers over and over again. {This makes Hugo jolt like he's listening to a scary story.} A couple of days later we're at the fair in Kalgoorlie and some wally there got this jar, must have been big as a pony.  And its filled to the rim with beans.  Fella is offering 50 grand to anyone able to guess how many beans are in that jar within 10. {Sam used the numbers} The answer was exact, to the bean.  Men had been running the same scam for 40 years.  Nobody'd ever come close, so we won the money. On the way home, a pickup truck blows a tire on the highway, hits us head on.  Lost my leg that night." {What about Sam?}  Barely a scratch. Most people would consider themselves lucky...but not him, he was never the same after that. {Martha presents a blue scrapbook.} He started keeping a record.  Anything terrible that happened to anyone around us, he believed it's all because he used those numbers.   He moved us out here in the middle of nowhere, hoping it would stop."
Hugo asks if they ever found a way to make it stop.
Yep he did.
Martha shares that Sam put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.
Martha-"What is it you're looking for, Mr. Reyes?"
Hugo grudgingly admits he used the numbers to win the lottery, "And now I think I'm under the same curse." {To win the lottery, not, and I won the lottery. hmmm}
Martha-"Curse?! There's no curse...You think I'd still have my leg if Sam hadn't have picked the right number of beans?   You think that floods wouldn't have happened?  That homes couldn't have burned down? That people wouldn't have died?!"
{Does she have insight to Hugo's experiences?}
Hugo- "Well...yeah."
Martha tells him you make your own luck, "Don't blame it on the damn numbers. You're looking for an excuse that doesn't exist."
{Flash Whoosh}

Locke is working on his building project. {White smoke billows from the fire}. Claire is sawing away on a branch, she asks, "It's a trap, right? For catching animals?
Locke asks her to pass the cup; he's made glue that he claims he made from rendered animal fat.
Claire-"You made glue?...Wow!You should have one of those shows where you uh, fix up houses for people."
Smiling Locke doesn't think so.
Claire thanks him for giving her something to do, "I'm tired of trying to remember what happened to me out there."
Locke asks how her memory is coming.
Claire-"Bits and pieces here and there. Nothing that makes any real sense."
Locke feels maybe he can help because he's good at putting bits and pieces together."
The both share a smile.

Sayid and Jack carefully try to find their way to Hurley and Charlie.
Sayid stops at an area he feels is familiar,"We're close."
Jack asks how he knows, "I thought she lived underground."
Jack takes a step and trips a wire causing an explosion.
Charlie and Hurley hear it.
Hurley looks up and around curiously.
In the exploded pit, Jack comments, "Some security system. Someone trips a wire and the whole place blows up."
Apparently there's nothing there, no batteries, nothing. Jack doesn't get it but Sayid feels she knew that one day he'd come back and bring others. So she abandoned this place, booby trapped it and moved on.
Jack wonders, "Moved on where?"

In the jungle Hurley calls out for Jack and Sayid.
Charlie asks, "Do you even know where we're going?"
Hurley feels "The blast sounded like it came from this way, I think."
Charlie-"You don't know!"
What does Charlie want from Hurley?
Charlie wants to know "what we're doing in the middle of nowhere.  And don't tell me it's because of some stinking batteries.   One minute you're happy go lucky good time Hurley, the next you're Colonel bloody Kurtz.  It just doesn't make any sense. It's not you."
Hurley-"Dude, you don't know me."
Irate Charlie feels all this time on the Island and Hurley's not told him anything about himself.  Hurley indicates they all have "personal stuff."
Pissed Charlie tells him not to change the subject, "We're lost out here.  Jack and Sayid could be hurt if not blown to bits all because you're acting like some bloody nutter."
Hurley is not crazy and he has his "reasons for everyth..."
Charlie presses him for the reasons because he feels he has a right to know.
Hurley spills it to Charlie, "About a year ago..." His story is interrupted by a shot fired near them! {NOTE: As Hurley is going to reveal what happened a year ago, and you see his mouth actually mouths something. The words cannot be heard because of the perfectly times shot of the rifle.}
They don't freak out.
Hurley-"Is someone shooting at us?"
Another shot is fired and the boys run in opposite directions.

Hurley runs, falls down, and when he gets back up he is face to face with Danielle and her rifle. "You must be the French chick."
Danielle-"Who are you?"
Hurley with his hands up replies, "Hurley...Sayid...that guy you tortured...he...a...."
Danielle-"You were on the plane."
He reaches in to his pocket and says he's getting her notes.  He presents her the small note paper and want her to tell him why she wrote this, "Tell me what these numbers mean, Please."
Armed Danielle doesn't know.
This aggravates Hurley, "What? You don't know. Okay, that thing in the woods...maybe its a monster. Maybe... it's a... pissed off giraffe.  I don't know! The fact that no one is even looking for us...yeah, that's weird. But I just go along with it... Cause I'm along for the ride.  Good ol fun time Hurley! Well guess what? NOW!   I WANT SOME FRIGGIN ANSWERS!"
Danielle lowers her weapon and begins to tell the story, "Our ship picked up a transmission, a voice repeating those numbers. Changed course to investigate.  After we ship wrecked my team continued to search for the transmission source. It was weeks before we found the radio tower."
Hurley asks if the radio tower is on "this Island."
Yes, up by the Black Rock.
Danielle- "Some of us continued to search for the meaning of those numbers while we waiting for rescue. But then the sickness came. When my team was gone I went back...up to the tower...and changed the transmission."
Hurley-"That distress signal we heard."
Yes.
Hurley wants to know if she found out anything about the numbers, "Do you know where they got their power?"
Danielle-"Power?"
Hurley-"They bring bad stuff to everyone around you. They're cursed. You know that, right? The numbers...are cursed."
Danielle recalls the numbers are what brought her here, "As it appears, they brought you.  Since that time I've lost everything.   Everyone I cared about.  So yes, I supposed you're right...they are cursed."
Hurley is relieved, "Thank you. Thank you. You have no idea how long I've been waiting...for someone to agree with me. Thank you. Oh god, Thank you. Thank you."
He gives her a big hug.

Jack tells Sayid they need to find Hurley and Charlie and get out of this jungle, "I just hate that we're going home empty handed." {Home?!}
Sayid is piling up Danielle's lair wreckage. {Burning.}

Sayid finds a scrap of Nadia's photo.
Charlie runs out of the woods announcing someone shot at them.
Sayid- "Rousseau."
Jack asks where Hurley is.
Charlie- "I don't know. He was right behind me and then he just... he just wasn't." {Hmmm.}
Sayid offers to find him but Jack says they'll all go.
Out of nowhere there's Hurley, "Go where?"
Freaked out Charlie asked what the hell happened to him.  Hurley takes a large battery out of his pack and hands it to Jack, "Need a battery."
They're a bit surprised.
Hurley tells Sayid, "She says hey." {How much time could have passed?}

Night on the beach the four men return. Jack pats Michael on the shoulder. Sayid hands the battery off to Michael.

In the dark jungle while still working on his project by campfire, Locke asks Claire if she thought of a name yet.
Claire- "Huh?"
Locke- "For the baby."
Claire-"Haven't really thought about it. I was gonna give it away. You know...for adoption." {Watch Locke}
Locke acknowledges it must have been a difficult decision.
Claire- "Yeah. Well. Doesn't matter now....It's my birthday today."
Locke's curious, "Why haven't you told anyone?"
Claire says she's pregnant, single and on an Island in the middle of nowhere. "Doesn't really matter that it's my birthday does it?"
Locke guesses not, "Well at least your birthdays will be close together.  You and your baby and that's good luck."
That's what he thinks.
Claire- "Do you believe in that...luck?"
Locke says believes in a lot of things.
He's finished the project.
Claire still doesn't know what it is, "OK. I give up. What is it?"
Locke turns it over and reveals its identity; a rocking cradle.
Claire smiles, "It's a cradle."
Locke-"Happy birthday, Claire."
Claire thanks him.

Night on the beach:
Hurley is drying is shirt over the camp fire.   Charlie comes over and jokes about Hurley cooking his shirt in place of scarce food.
Hurley- "When you find a Laundromat let me know."
Charlie sits down next to him and mentions about before in the jungle, "before we became target practice, you were going to tell me what inspired this little quest."
Hurley tells that his bad luck may have crashed the plane.
Charlie tells him "Don't be daft, how could you possibly..."
Hurley goes on to share with him that "before we came here a lot of bad stuff used to happen whenever I was around."
Charlie questions, like bad luck?
Hurley feels that's a mellow way of describing it.
Charlie tries to reason with him by telling him bad things just happen, "You think you're the only one with baggage?  You know what I was doing when the plane went down?  I was snorting heroin in the toilet. I was such a junkie I couldn't even take a plane ride without having a fix.  I suppose that was your fault as well."
Hurley doesn't answer.
Charlie asks, "So how about it?"
Hurley-"What?"
Charlie just told him the biggest secret in his life, "I thought you'd want to reciprocate."
After a long pause Hurley tells him that back home, "I'm worth156 million dollars."
Charlie, feeling as if he's bullshitting says,"Fine. Don't tell me."
Charlie feels he bared his soul and all he gets are bloody jokes.
Insulted Charlie walks off.
The camera zooms in to show us
4 - 8 - 15 - 16 - 23 - 42 on the HATCH.

Numbers is a great episode!
Hurley's along for the ride. Hmmm...Very, very interesting.
"Hearing and Listening".    The Lostie's have to learn to truly open their eyes, but to also listen.
We need to really observe and listen to everything too.  Are voices and sounds "bleeding through" wires, static or their sleeping minds?   Is Hurley "hearing" something that the rest of the Lostie's aren't?
Hurley's curiosity about the numbers shows me that his role and part in the "Island's" story is very important.    Hurley is in search of the meaning of the numbers two times, in two environments {on "Island" and off "Island".}   It seems to me that Hurley may be realizing that something is being "done to him".  He also feels he's the cause of pain to the people around him.

Let's not forget the importance of the "power cord" here.   There were a lot of subliminal visuals to a power cord and wires all through the episode.  I can't help but wonder not about the power cord that runs into the jungle and disappears in to the ground, but where is the power and the power cord is originating from?  How far away is its source?  If there is power going to and from this "Island", then how can it be an "Island".
Is it possible the power cord/wire is hinting to something else getting powered or connected?
Maybe it is possible the "power" is a metaphor for the "power" they themselves posses to make change; positive thinking or even wishful thinking/believing.

Numbers gives us a hint to be careful of a Con/Scam.
I love the line Martha says to Hugo-"Don't blame it on the damn numbers. You're looking for an excuse that doesn't exist."
I feel like the whole experience with Martha was very out of place and meant only for Hurley.   You need to go back listen/read carefully to all of her dialogue with him as it's very important.
There is definitely a blurring of what we see on "Island" and off "Island".  Things seem very integrated.

John Locke, what a guy, making gifts for Claire and her unborn baby.
Don't ignore Claire's first perceptive response to the overturned cradle...Trap! Indeed it is.

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.

Adrift.

Let's talk about LOST! Adrift.

(Click the Pics!)

Underwater:
Sawyer pops up from the water to the sounds of Walt screaming out for “Dad”.
Michael crying out in desperation for Waaaaaalt!!
The Others took Walt. Whatever is left of the raft is on fire.  Sawyer calls out for Mike while Michael cries out for Walt. {You can hear Jin say “Sawyer”}
Sawyer yells out for Jin, but Jin doesn’t reply. {Listen to the sounds and voices in the background.}
Sawyer makes his way to a piece of floating wreckage/junk in an attempt to get to Mike.“Hang on Mike!”
Michael just repeats “Walt” over and over.
Michael appears to black out and go underwater. Sawyer pulls Michael up onto a piece of raft.   Mike is unconscious and seems to not be breathing and Sawyer tries to revive him by frantically pounding on his chest, “Mike! Mike! Mike!”
On Sawyer’s third strike to Mike’s chest...

The bright light goes off in the hatch.
Locke is still holding the “rope” {cable-vine} that was lowering Kate into the hatch.   He yells down there for her.  Locke ties up this cable-vine to a tree and goes in after Kate.

Sawyer continues CPR on Mike and saves Michael!
Right away Mike asks “Where’s Walt?”
Sawyer doesn’t know.
{Flash Whoosh}
“How'd you hurt your leg?”   asks the attorney .
Michael, who is fidgeting with his walking stick/cane tells the lawyer he got hit by a car. {World Trade Center/Twin Towers is seen outside the window.}
The lawyer chats about the paperwork Michael’s ex-wife sent over.
Michael corrects him, “She's not my ex-wife, man. She's just...Walt's mother. She, uh, Susan, she just got a new job in Rome…the boyfriend... they want to take Walt with them.”
The lawyer tells him not to worry, “I'm going to take very good care of you, Mr. Dawn.”
Michael corrects him, “Dawson."
The lawyer is looking over the papers, “This boyfriend...this is this guy, Brian Porter?”
Michael wonders what it says.

The Lawyer-“It seems that Susan wants you to relinquish your rights as Walt's father so that Mr. Porter can adopt him. “
Michael’s upset that Susan wants him to sign his son away.

The lawyer-“It's the only way they can proceed with the adoption, yeah. Listen, if you sign this document...legally, he'll be no different than any other kid you pass on the street. You'll be giving up your paternal rights...All of them.”
Michael wonders if he can stop her from going. The lawyer mentions they could file and injunction so she couldn’t leave the city. Michael wants to do that.
The lawyer- “Right. Um, Mr. Dawson, the fact that you came in through these doors that tells me something. It tells me that I'm the best that you can afford. If we go forward with this, it's going to take money. A lot of it...even at my rates. This is David and Goliath, so I've got to ask you...are you sure you want to do this?"
Michael-“They're not taking my son away.“  {Uh, well they just did!}
{Flash Whoosh}

“Waaaaaalt!”
Michael continues calling out for his son. Concerned Sawyer suggests Mike save his energy.
Sawyer saw that they took Walt onto a boat which means he's not in shouting distance.“
Michael-“You don't know that.“
{Huh?! Do you see the friggin boat?!}
 Sawyer-“Well, I got a pretty good sense. And even if he was, there's nothing you can do."

Michael is freaked out and determined, “Look, if he can hear me, he knows that I'm alive, that I'm coming for him, that I'm Going To Get Him Back. Right now, all I've got is that maybe my son can hear me. Does that make any sense to you?”
Mike goes on crying out for Waaaaalt!

Locke arrives down inside the hatch; whispering loudly for Kate.
Locke steps in a puddle of muddy water. {Mirror in the corner.} {There is the sound of a loud hum and machine-winding down; that sound is repeated.}
Locke takes off his shoes before entering the area. {Why would he do this? It's not so he can sneak around-shoe-less!}
Locke touches the Dharma Swan Logo on a fuse box. Locke’s shadow is cast as he makes his way into the living area. {Art/graffiti on the walls, Lava lamp, Ping Pong table.}
He creeps his way around. He opens the blinds and reveals fake sunlight.
He hears Kate moaning. {Keep those thoughts clean, guys! Lol}

Kate's on the floor of the computer room; she was knocked out. As she’s waking up she warms Locke of a man behind him.
That man holds a rifle on Locke and asks, "Are you him? Are you him?"

Sawyer’s on the raft calling out for Jin.
Michael- “I thought we had to save our energy?”
They do, but Jin's still out there in the water, so if it's okay by Mike, Sawyer’s going to keep shouting for him. He continues calling out for Jin!”
Annoyed Michael asks Sawyer if he’s feeling guilty for making him fire the flare.
Sawyer-“I made you fire...What, this is my fault?”
Michael-“They took my son. They found us took Walt, because you made me fire the flare!” Sawyer feels at least Walt is on a boat, probably wrapped in a blanket with a cup of cocoa, while they’re on this piece of...Michael demands Sawyer get off of his raft.  Something hits the bottom of the raft and they wonder what it is.   There is something under there. We see an above shot of the water with a shark swimming by.
Floating on what's left of the raft, Michael remarks that Sawyer was able to hold on to his best friend {a gun}.
Michael-"...thing aint gonna work, anyway. You were underwater.”
Sawyer wonders what Hoss knows about guns anyway, “It’ll work.”
Sawyer removes the clip and pops out the bullets. He feels if the bullets are dry, the powders dry. The raft is bumped into hard by their underwater visitor causing Sawyer to drop the bullets. They realize it’s only a shark.   Mike feels the shark is hanging around because of Sawyer’s bleeding shoulder.
Sawyer-“Oh, well, I'll just stop bleeding then. Did you suddenly forget what happened? Why I got shot?”
Michael- “What?”
Sawyer-“Hey, how about a little gratitude here? I'm mean, a thank you."
Michael-“Thank you? For what? For you trying to save your own ass?"
Sawyer-“You want me off this raft? You got it.”
Sawyer pulls/paddles with his one arm to get to another piece of raft.
Sawyer tells Mike, “I was trying to save your damn kid.”
{Flash Whoosh}
“Let's talk about Walt, shall we, Mr. Dawson?” asks Susan’s lawyer, Lizzy.
Lizzy-”When was the last time you actually saw your son?”
Michael-“Um, about a year ago."
Lizzy corrects him, “It was 14 months, actually. “
She wonders, “Why so long?”
Michael-“Susan took him to Amsterdam… for work. “ {History lesson, New York City was originally called New Amsterdam.}
Lizzy-“And you didn't have a problem with that?”
Michael-“Excuse me?”
Lizzy-“Well, since she's now going to Rome and you're filing an injunction. It just seems a little inconsistent to me.“
Michael-“Incon… no. No, no, no, no. ..She took him…I didn’t want her to go.”
Mike’s lawyer informs him that she’s baiting him.  Michael says to Susan, “You said there was nothing I could do.”
Susan looks uncomfortable.
Lizzy-“And you didn't do anything, did you?”
Lizzy feels there is no answer to that question. “You were in an accident recently, no?”
Michael-“Yeah."
Lizzy-“You had several surgeries. Spent weeks in a private hospital room. Extensive rehabilitation. Who paid for all of that, Mr. Dawson?”
Michael is getting worked up and says to Susan, ”I didn't ask you for anything.”
Lizzy wants the court reporter to have the record reflect that Mr. Dawson acknowledged that Ms. Lloyd paid his bills."
Michael’s upset,”Susan! Tell them. Susan, tell them that I didn't ask you for anything.“    Apparently Michael is not to address Susan directly.
Lizzy asks Michael-“Do you know what Walt's first words were, Mr. Dawson?"
Michael-“I'm sorry, what?"
Lizzy-“His first words, do you know what they were?"
Michael-“I...no, I...I wasn't there."
Lizzy-“Do you know what his favorite food is? {Michael rolls his eyes but doesn’t say anything} Do you..."
Michael-“No.”
Michael’s lawyer feels this is unnecessary but Michael finally replies ‘no’ to her question.
Lizzy- “Well, for someone who wants to retain his paternal rights so badly you don't seem to know much about your son, Mr. Dawson.”
Michael-“I'm his father.”
Lizzy-“I'm sorry, could you say that louder please, just for the record.”
Michael repeats, “I'm his father.“ {Note there’s a man videotaping this meeting.}
{Flash Whoosh}
The full moon shines down on Michael and Sawyer, each on their pieces of raft wreckage. Sawyer is digging around his bullet wound. {It’s a good thing these two raft pieces don’t drift away from each other. Lol}
Michael asks Sawyer if he’s crazy,” You're going to take a bullet out with your bare hands.”  He feels Sawyer will never be able to do it by himself, besides Sawyer thought they parted ways.
Michael-“We're caught in the same current.“
Sawyer is in pain and gathers nerve to dig at the wound.  He screams as he pulls the bullet out. Sawyer asks Mike if he’s got a Band-aid and then Sawyer passes out.

“Are you... are you him?” Desmond asks Locke.
Locke stands up and states, “Yes. Yes I am.” {His first response is to say yes!}  Desmond is relieved, “I can't believe it. You're finally here."
Locke smiles and says,”Well, here I am.”
Desmond asks who she is.
Locke helps Kate up and informs Desmond, “She's with me.”
Cautious Desmond asks him, “What did one snowman say to the other snowman?”
Locke doesn’t know what he’s talking about.  Realizing Locke is ‘not him’, he demands Locke get rid of the knife.   Locke tosses the knife and tries to explain to Desmond that they’re not there to hurt him. Desmond wonders why they came. Kate reveals they were in a plane crash.
Desmond-“Were you now? And when was that?”
Locke-“44 days ago.”
Desmond-“44 days? Move.”
As Desmond is moving his visitors along, Locke sees the wall is filled with strike marks in groups of five, indicating a counter/calendar.  Locke asks him how long he’s been down there. Desmond tosses Kate a black power cord and tells Kate to tie Locke up.
Locke-“Wait. Wait, wait! You're tying up the wrong person.”  He tells Des it's pointless to tie him up, he’s not dangerous. But her, she's a fugitive.
Desmond-“So, what does that make you then, brother?”
Locke-“I'm a regional collections manager for a cardboard manufacturer. Boxes primarily.”
Desmond-“All right then, box man, tie her up.
Kate doesn’t want Locke to touch her but he does tie her hands behind her back and he whispers to her, “I'm doing what's best for all of us. Locke slips a pocketknife in Kate's jeans.  Kate struggles but they lock her up in a dark storage room.

At the caves Hurley asks Jack,” You're kidding, right? You're going back?”
Indeed he is.
Hurley-“What about all that stuff you said about waiting 'til morning and watching the sun rise?”
Jack changed his mind.
Claire asks Charlie, “What do you suppose all that's about?”
Charlie reckons Jack's going to do something heroic. Claire rolls her eyes at that. Then Claire remarks that Charlie always ‘tries’ to be funny when he doesn’t want to answer a question. She hands him the baby and he makes funny faces at Aaron. Claire finds a Virgin Mary statue and asks, “What's this?”
Charlie found it in the jungle, “Yeah. Be careful. Be careful with it. Hey, take Aaron. {Gives her the baby} You've got to be careful with it, you know. It's the Virgin Mary. She's holy.”
Claire didn’t realize Charlie was so religious. Charlie says he’s not, “It's just, you know, it might come in handy. It'd be a nice thing to have around.”

Mike and Sawyer float individually near each other on their rafts.
Sawyer-“It wasn't the flare. I said it wasn't the flare. Those people… that did this...at first I thought they were fisherman or pirates or something. Then I got a good look at their boat. You know anything about boats, Mike? A boat like that wasn't built for the open ocean. Water's coming over the side with the first little squall...maybe got a range of 100 miles. A boat like that had to have left port from somewhere close. Like the island. French chick said the Others were coming for a kid. I think they came, Mike.”
Sawyer feels he’s/Walt is the one they wanted and why he has a bullet in his shoulder, “Hell, Bluebeard blew us up because they wanted your kid.”
Michael-“Are you saying this is my fault?”
Yep, that’s what Sawyer is saying.
Michael feels they took his son because of Sawyer, “They were sailing away.”
Sawyer-“They found us because they were looking for us, for Walt."
Michael points something/stick at Sawyer and yells him, “Don't you ever say his name again, ever.”
Sawyer-“Oh, what are you gonna do? Splash me.“
So, childish Michael splashes Sawyer, and Sawyer's raft unravels.
Mike literally turns his back on him. Injured Sawyer and his gun make his way over to Mike’s tiny raft.
Sawyer-“Look, I know you...”
Pissed off Michael tells him to “Shut up! Don't EVEN… You have no idea what it's like to care for somebody else.“
{Flash Whoosh}

Susan is waiting for Michael in a lawyer-less office. She wanted to talk to him alone. Susan thinks he’s going to win.
Susan- “In court. I think you're going to keep me from leaving the country with Walt. I just have to ask you why?”
It’s because Walt’s Michael’s son.
Susan- “Since when, Michael? {Pretty important statement! Don't you think?} Look, I know you don't care about what's best for me, but in Rome I'll be senior partner at the firm. I'll be able to give Walt anything he needs. You're still on disability, Michael. You can't work. You're about to be evicted from your apartment.“
She had her lawyer’s checking up on him, “Just like you had your lawyers checking up on me. Nobody's winning here.”
Michael-"Then stop."

Susan-“Michael, the first thing you need to do is take care of yourself. You need to get healthy. You need to get back on your feet financially so you can get back to pursuing your art. You have rare talent as an artist, Michael. But how are you going to do that, any of that...and still be a part of Walt's life?"
Michael will do it by doing it; Walt’s his responsibility too.

Susan-“Then let him go. Because it's not about you or me, it’s about him. I don't want to go court, Michael. So please just let him go.”
Michael just looks at her.
{Flash Whoosh}
In the dark storage room Kate struggles to free her hands. Son of a bitch! She frees herself by using the pocket knife and cutting the black power cord cuffs. She feels her way around and turns on the light. She is in a food pantry that is stocked with goods! As she moves a box/crate to get up to the air/AC vent she finds an open tin labeled candy and is filled with Apollo Bars. She enjoys eating one and puts a bunch in her back pockets.
Kate climbs on a crate and opens the air/AC vent and climbs into it.

The bright fake/simulated sunlight pours into the hatch. Locke fills Desmond in on their arrival. “The pilot said we had lost radio contact, but by then we were already a thousand miles off course. Any search teams would have given up weeks ago.”
Armed Desmond-“So you were traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles?”
Locke says yes.
Des seems a bit amazed, “So the world is still out there?”
Locke-“As far as I know... Could you tell me your name?”
Des now seems baffled and asks, ”My name? My name is Desmond.”
Locke-“Desmond, I'm John. You should know the gun is really unnecessary.”
Des acts all tough for a second and then asks, “How many of you are there?”
Locke-“43, but 4 sailed out this morning on a raft.”
The raft idea amuses Desmond.
Locke wonders about that simulated sunlight “Is that because you never leave? Is there another way out?”
Desmond doesn’t even respond to those questions, he only wonders how many of John’s group have gotten sick; as in ill, as in dead! Locke asks if that’s why it says QUARANTINE on the inside of the hatch. Desmond just wants the answer.
Locke-“No one has. No one. No one is sick.”
All of a sudden there is beeping. {We get a shot of a speaker}
Kate crawls through the AC duct. {Another shot of a speaker}
Desmond demands John get up and shuffles him to the computer room. “Stand right there. Do you know how to use this, box man?”
Locke looks amazed-“I haven't seen one of those in 20 years.”   But he knows how to use it. The countdown clock clicks down from 2:38 to 2:37 to 2:36.
Desmond wants him to, “Listen carefully, type in exactly what I tell you. Exactly, nothing else. 4, 8, 15... Did you hear that?”
Locke-“What?”
Desmond-”What did you just put in? What number did you just put in?“
Locke-“15”
Distracted Desmond continues, “Right, 16, 23, 42. Now press execute.”
Nervous John stalls, wanting to know what’s going to happen.
Desmond-“Just push it!”
Locke pushes EXECUTE and the timer resets to 108. They both seem relieved. {Execute- as in carry out fully, enforce or put to death?}
Jack calls out for Kate and Locke. Desmond wants to know who the hell that is.
Locke-“That would be Jack.”
Desmond looks through his fancy looking glass contraption of mirrors {adjusting a dial} and asks Locke whom that is.
Locke-“His, uh, his name is Jack. He's our doctor.”
Locke is a little surprised to see Jack there.
Desmond reveals Locke’s doctor has a gun and pushes brotha to move, “Make one sound and I'll shoot. Move.“
Desmond walks over to the stereo, flips a switch and blasts the record player {it scratches and the song plays “Make Your Own Kind of Music.}
Kate crawls through the vent.
Desmond threatens to shoot if Locke makes a sound then pushes him, “Move!”
From up in the vent Kate can see through the grid that Jack is looking around down below {there’s a sofa}. Kate calls out to him but he doesn’t hear her. Jack takes a closer look at the computer. The record scratches to a stop!
Locke is standing alone in the doorway, “I wouldn't do that, Jack.”
Pissed off Jack asks where Kate is.
Desmond stays hidden but points the gun at John’s head. “Move and I kill him. Put the gun down.“ {Kate has ringside seats!}
Jack just wants to know where Kate is. John says she’s fine and to put the gun down. Jack isn’t putting anything down.
Desmond shoots and it hits in the vicinity of Kate’s VIP seat.
Desmond-“Do you want him to die? Put it down.”
Jack-“Is this what you were talking about, Locke? Is this your destiny? All roads lead here?”
Calm Locke tells Jack to calm down.
Desmond scoots behind Locke and tells Jack to “Lower your gun or I'll blow his damned head off, brotha.”
Jack realizes something familiar. Desmond shows his face.
Jack- “You.“ {He gets a messed up look about him}

Michael and Sawyer sit in opposite directions on the raft. Sawyer decides to one arm pull himself over to one of the pontoons.   Mike tells Sawyer to stop paddling because he’s putting a strain on the binds and it’s going to break them up.   Determined Sawyer keeps on paddling. The raft starts to break apart and Sawyer falls off. Michael wants him to climb up.
Sawyer- “I do and we both sink. I'm going for the pontoon.”
He hands Mike the gun and tells him if he sees that toothy son of a bitch, you aim and squeeze. Sawyer makes break for the pontoon as Mike roots for him to make it. The shark shows up and Michael pulls the trigger but nothing happens.
Michael fires 5x and we see blood; he hit something. All is quiet; no shark, no Sawyer.
Michael calls out for Sawyer and paddles near the pontoon.
Sawyer pops up on the other side of the pontoon, “Give me your hand.”
Michael helps Sawyer climb onto the pontoon; then Mike joins him.

Michael with his cane sits on a park bench in a park.  Susan and a young Walt meet up with Michael. Susan {Pearl earring.} apologizes that she’s late, “Packing's been a disaster and the plane leaves first thing in the morning.”
Susan asks Walt {stripe polo shirt} if he wants to say hi.
Michael-“Hi, Walt. I'm... I’m...hey, uh, {pulls a stuffed polar bear out of the bag.} this is for you, man. {To Susan} He like bears?“
Yes he likes bears, he’s just really shy.
Michael kneels down, looks deeply at Walt, “Hey little man, look. I guess I can't call you that, I mean, because look how big you are. So, you and I...well, we're not going to see each other for a while, Walt. But you are going to have...a great life. I know your mommy she's going to take real good care of you. And Brian is...going to take good care of you, too. But you know what? I just want you to know… that no matter where you go... I...That your daddy...Yeah, your daddy...he loves you very, very much. And I always will. Always, okay.“
Smiling Susan is sorry about this.
Michael is emotional, he hands her the bag and wants Walt to know its from him, “sometime”.
She says okay and goodbye.
Michael-“Yeah, bye.”
He is sad as he watches them walk away.
Michael is crying on the pontoon. {His hands against his head.} The sun is rising. Sawyer wakes up and asks Mike if he’s OK.
Michael feels it's his fault, “I never should have brought him on the raft. {Now motivated and determined} I'm going to get him back. I'm going to get back my son.”
Sawyer looks over to his right and sees that, “The current brought us back. We're home.” {Indeed. They are home.}
Sawyer and Michael make their way on shore.
They hear Jin yelling. Jin's comes running over to them with his arms tied behind his back. He falls; Michael unties him while Jin's rambles on in Korean. He’s trying to tell them something important.
Jin-“Utter! Utters!...Others.”

They all look over to see a tribal looking group of people. Others.

Adrift is a great episode!
The raft guys face one hell of a challenge and end up returning right back to where they started from.
They are literally drawn back to the Island because that is where they need to be and yes...these guys are really at home.

Things to Note...Questions to ask...
* Sawyer saves Michael's life. CPR. He should be a saint. Saint Sawyer, that works for me. He could have let Michael die but that's not what Sawyers all about.
* Save your energy.
* Simulated. Fake.
* Power cord. Computer. Speaker. Countdown clock/timer. Reset.
* Team. Challenge. Another way out-Exit-Escape. Win.
* Sawyer calls Michael-Mike.
* Desmond questions Locke. The lawyer questions Michael.
* Kate and Apollo bars. I can't help but wonder if those delicious treats contain a hallucinogen in it, to help keep them in an altered state or something. Remember, I feel that they may have an "altered" thing going on; their minds would have to be altered.   That could be done with hallucinogens in food, candy, gas, injections, brain washing, etc. This is just a thought. But the candy has to have some importance.
* Susan has lots of money and a powerful job with people in high places. We should all be so lucky. lol!
*"She is just Walt's mother"...Was she just the carrier of "Walt" or carrier of something else? Is Michael a carrier of something? Is this a simple case of two people who just crossed paths, fell in love, had a child, and moved on with their lives?  Or is there more to their "role" with bringing Walt into the “world”? After all this is LOST.
* "Not made for the open water."   It's a good thing we find that out now, because later when Walt and Michael are released to find rescue we know they can't go any farther than 100 miles. I hope to heaven a big giant boat showed up for them!

Vocabulary and Research…
* New Amsterdam was a 17th century Dutch colonial settlement that later became New York City. The town developed outside of Fort Amsterdam on Manhattan Island in the New Netherland territory (1614–1674) which was situated between 38 and 42 degrees latitude as a provincial extension of the Dutch Republic as of 1624.

Who is Desmond, the man in control of the electronics/mechanics of things inside the hatch? He must be important.
I still feel Michael knows the truth about Walt, the island and his role, but he must not remember everything.
Again I can't help but wonder the parentage of Walt. Susan raises him and Michael does not. I still question the biology of Walt.
Call me crazy, even Superman was raised by another!

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Here's a picture to ponder!

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham

Let's talk about LOST! The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.
Caesar enters a dark office. {Hydra/Ben’s office} This office contains items: anatomy chart, an animal skull, Life magazine 4/19/54 {Creature from the black lagoon.).
He breaks into a file cabinet and looks through maps, diagrams, blue prints and reads over “space” notes.   From the floor he notices something hidden/attached under the desk; a gun.  Ilana enters and asks if he found anything.   He lies and says no.  She wants to know what he just put in his bag.  Again he lies and pulls out a flashlight.
She reveals, “We found someone; a man. Roxanne was scouting just south of here. He was just standing in the water. He’s wearing a suit.”

They walk in the dark past an intact plane.
Caesar-“Nobody recognizes him?”
Ilana- “No. Whoever he is, he didn’t come with us.”
Caesar- “Then how do we know he isn’t one of the ones who disappeared?”
She tells Caesar he’s not; she knows this because he wasn’t on the plane.
Caesar wonders what this man had to say but he will have to ask him that himself.

The survivors of Ajira hang out on the beach watching a man sitting with a dark Ajira blanket covering him {and his head}.   {Maybe he just wants to meditate in private. lol}
A bonfire burns.
Caesar says hello to “blanket man” and introduces himself.
Blanket man removes his hood and says, “My name is John Locke.”

Daylight:
John’s suit jacket and Christian’s shoes are on the beach.  John looks out over the water at another island. Ilana greets him with a ‘Good morning’, and brings him a delicious mango from a tree they found.  We see two outrigger boats and John asks if they're hers.
She says they aren’t, “They were already here. There used to be three, but the pilot and some woman took one. Didn’t tell anyone, just ran off in the middle of the night.”
John-“The pilot of the plane that brought you here?”
Yes.
John asks if she has a passenger list.  She informs him he’ll have to talk to Caesar. John really loves the taste of that mango!  Ilana mentions that nobody remembers him being on the plane.
John doesn’t remember being on it either.    Anna Lucia, uh, I mean, Ilana asks what he does remember.
John remembers a lot. Ilana's intrigued about why he’s dressed up so nice.
John- “No. But I can guess.”
So she wants him to guess.
John smirks and says "I think this suit is what they were gonna bury me in…you asked what I
remembered. I remember dying.”
Maybe she doesn’t take him seriously; she walks away.
{Flash}
The wheel is stuck.
Christian wishes John luck.
John pulls the wheel back.   {Not push as per Christian's instructions}
Christian smiles, “Say hello to my son.”
John-“Who’s your son?”
Bright light!
John eyes closed. He jolts awake.
He is in the middle of the desert in Tunisia. {Big mound} His leg is hurt from the fall into the well.
John pukes. There's a camera and wires circling the area around him.  He calls out for help.

Night:
John still lays there awake and waiting.
A pickup truck with Tunisian men drive out and almost run him over.   They gather up John and throw him in the back of the truck.
The men carry him to a rundown functioning clinic.     All the while John is asking, “Where is this? Where are we? Where am I?”
They drop him on the bed.
John asks the Doctor, “Sir. Where am I? Who are you?...Where am I? Do you speak English?”
The Doctor takes unmarked pills out of a cabinet and forces John to swallow them. {gives John a filthy cup} John looks over and we see Abaddon watching from behind a lace-like curtain.
The Doctor tells John to bite on a wooden stick, in preparation for him pulling his leg back into place. {The stick is strapped to John’s mouth, like a gag bit used on horses for riding}
The Doctor preps John’s leg and pulls the leg.
John shakes and starts to see things blurry and passes out.

Night:
In the dark a man watches John sleep.
“John. John. Wake up.”
John starts to awaken; He sees his leg in a cast.
The man tells him he’s had a compound fracture. The Doctors “here” did their best, but he flew in a specialist to reset his leg properly.  The man pours John a glass of water, “It’s nice to see you again, John.”
John- “Do I know you?”
Yep, he does.
The man understands John being confused. “Imagine how I feel. I met you when I was 17. Now all these years later, here we are. You look exactly the same.”
John asks who he is.
“My name is Charles Widmore. Tell me John…How long has it been for you since we first met? Since you walked into our camp and you spoke to Richard?”
Surprised John replies, “Four days.”
Widmore finds that incredible. John asks about the camera in the desert, “That was yours.”
Yep, it was.
John asks how he knew he’d be there.
Widmore-“That’s the exit.”    {Exit only?}
Widmore was afraid that Benjamin might fool John into leaving the island, as he did with him.
Widmore reveals, “I was their leader.”
John- “The Others?”
Widmore- “They’re not 'The Others' to me. They’re my people. We protected the Island, peacefully. For more than three decades. But then I was exiled...by him. Just as you were.”
John says no; Ben wasn’t even there when he left. He was already gone. “I, I wasn’t exiled. I chose to leave.”    {Self imposed exile/exit}
Widmore wonders why he would do that and then has a revelation. “You’ve come to bring them back. The ones who left.”
John lies and says no.
Widmore understands John lying to him, but there’s something he should know.
He explains, “All your friends, who left the Island, they’ve been back three years... They’ve gone back to their normal lives.  And none of them has spoken a word of truth about where they were.”
{Widmore conveniently came prepared with the newspaper announcing the rescue of the Oceanic 6. Give me a fucking break!}
John has to bring them back and Widmore will do everything in his power to help him. Because…there’s a war coming. And if John’s not back on the Island when that happens, the wrong side is going to win.

Children are playing soccer.
John sits outside looking at his new I.D.  {Type P, Canadian. Jeremy Bentham. 15 Feb 48. Born in New York, New York. Date of issue, 12 Dec 07. Date of expiry 12 Dec 17}
Jeremy Bentham was a British Philosopher. Widmore tells John, his parents had a sense of humor when naming him John Locke, so why can’t he. {Interesting comment.}
Widmore gives him money, enough for now, and an international phone. “If you need to reach me for anything just press 2 3.”
{Yeah, didn’t see that coming. Ha!}
Widmore goes on to tell him the folder contains “Your people’s whereabouts. Everyone that was on the Island that left.”
John looks at a photo of Sayid doing construction and asks,“You’ve been watching them?”
Widmore tells John he’s deeply invested in the future of the Island.  So yes, he’s been watching them. “I wouldn’t mention I’m involved in this. I can’t imagine what they think of me, having listened to Benjamin‘s lies.”
John- “How do I know that you’re not the one who’s lying?”
Widmore- “I haven’t tried to kill you. Would you say the same for him?” {Touché.}
John still doesn’t trust him, recalling Widmore sent a team of killers and a boatload of C-4 to the Island; that doesn’t exactly scream trust.
Widmore needed Linus removed so it could be John’s time. “The Island needs you, John. It has for a long time.”
John wants to know what makes Widmore think he’s so special.
Widmore- “Because you are.”
A car pulls up near their table.
Widmore- “Ah. Your chariot has arrived.”
John- “He said I would die.”
John shares Richard Alpert’s information regarding the only way to get them to come back was he had to die. Widmore doesn’t know why he said that, “But I’m not gonna let that happen.”

Widmore introduces Matthew Abaddon, “He’ll take you anywhere you need to go. Protect you from whomever intends to do you harm.”
Abaddon shakes John’s hand and returns to the car.
Widmore helps John from the chair, “Good luck, John. And Godspeed.”
Abaddon produces a black wheelchair for John; this troubles John.

Abaddon drives while John sits in the back seat.
Abaddon- “Anything you need Mr. Locke, you just let me know. Anything. Anybody from your past you want me to lookup for you? The whole world thinks you‘re dead, Mr. Locke, there must be somebody who‘d be happy to see you.”    {Abaddon seems to be baiting/coaching John.}
John- “Please don’t talk to me.”
Abaddon- “You got it.”    A shepherd and sheep cross the road in front of them.  {Clue to shepherding/coaching/guiding people.}
Abaddon- “But we’re almost at the airport so you’re at least gonna have to tell me where we’re going first.”
John- “Santo Domingo.”

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Construction workers in yellow tee shirts are building structures; there's a Nun with a goat. {No. That’s not the start of a dirty joke! lol}
Sayid sits in the same exact position as the photo Widmore showed Locke.  Sayid gives instructions to another man in Spanish.  He is working for the Save our World organization.  Sayid is told he has a visitor.  He sees John Locke in the wheelchair.
Sayid- “I don’t believe this. You actually want me to go back?”
John knows how it sounds, but he has to trust John. This is the only way their gonna save them.
Sayid- “I’m not going back. For two years I was manipulated into thinking I was protecting everyone on the Island.”
John asks who was manipulating him.
Sayid- “Ben. So who is manipulating you, John?”
John lies and says this is coming from him and nobody else. “I know you, Sayid. And deep down in your heart you know we never should have left the Island.”
Sayid explains that it’s only because he left the Island that he was finally able to marry the woman he loved. “We spent nine months together. The best nine months of my life, John. That’s what I know in my heart.”
John- “Where is she now?”
Sayid- “She was murdered.”
John feels bad.   Sayid asks him why he really needs to go back, “Is it just because you have nowhere else to go?”
John tells Sayid if he changes his mind he’ll be staying under the name Jeremy Bentham in L.A. at the Westerfield Hotel.
Sayid says with a smile, “And if you change your mind, you’re welcome to come back here and do some real good. Good bye, John.”

New York, NY.
John waits in the car with Abaddon outside of the Fieldcroft School. John would like Abaddon to lookup Helen Norwood; she was living in Los Angles. Abaddon wonders if she’s an old girlfriend of his.
John, drinking coffee, doesn’t answer him.
The school bell rings.
John excitedly asks for help getting out of the car. The kids exit the school building. {Note the Smoking Prohibited By Law sign on the school glass door!}
Abaddon-“So that’s Michael Dawson’s son, huh?”
Yep and the boy’s gotten big!
Waaaaalt, almost sensing John, looks back to indeed make eye contact with John.
Abaddon will give the two some privacy.
John and Walt are happy to see each other; they shake hands.  Walt asks what happened.
John says he hurt his leg, “You don’t seem surprised to see me.”
Walt-”I’ve been having dreams about you. You were on the Island wearing a suit. {What kind?} And there were people all around you. They wanted to hurt you, John.”
John makes light of that, “Good thing they’re just dreams.”
Walt- “Is my dad…is he back on the Island? I haven‘t talked to him in three years. I figured he must have gone back.”
{Wouldn’t "special" Walt know that answer?}
John- “Um, last I heard your dad was on a freighter near the Island.” {Good answer!}
Walt’s satisfied with that answer, “So, why’d you come to see me?”
John looks at Walt, “I just wanted to make sure you were OK.”
Walt smiles and tells him, yeah, he’s doing pretty good. “Well, I gotta go. It was good seeing you, John.”
They shake hands again. “Take care.”
These two really look into each other’s eyes the whole time. They share a connection, indeed.
Abaddon comes to retrieve John, “I take it you didn’t invite him along.”
John didn't,  as he feels the boy has been through enough.
Abaddon- “That’s O for 2, Mr. Locke. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought you had to bring everyone back.”
John feels he only needs to convince one, and if he can do that, the rest will come. “And maybe I was mistaken but I thought you were my driver {note the NY license plate.}
There, in the distance, standing, watching by a subway entrance is handsomely dressed Ben.

Santa Rosa, Ca.

Hurley sits outside on the lawn at Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute, painting a beautiful piece depicting the Sphinx, people and camels in the desert. {This Sphinx is actually looking left over its shoulder.}
Hurley is wearing the same clothes as he did when he saw Charlie on the lawn. John rolls up to Hugo and says hello.
Hugo, unimpressed, ”So you didn’t make it, huh?”
He is assuming John is dead, because John‘s not the first person to visit him Hugo asks what‘s up with the wheelchair.
John promises him he is very much alive, even though he broke his leg falling down a hole.
Hugo asks nurse Suzie if he’s talking to a dude in a wheelchair.
Suzie confirms that he is indeed talking to a dude in a wheelchair.
Hugo freaks, “Yo, dude! What are you doing here?”
John is there to tell Hugo he needs him to come back to the Island with him. And not just him, but everybody who left. {Does Charlie, Eko, Libby, Anna Lucia and gang all count too?}
Hugo- “Sorry, dude. I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Jack’s a Doctor now, and Sun’s like got her baby, and Kate’s got Aaron.”
Hugo sees Abaddon and tells Locke to be cool, warning Locke they’re being watched.
Locke- “Don’t worry. He’s with me. He’s just driving me around. He‘s okay.”
Hugo shares with Locke, “That dude is far from okay. When I first got locked up in here, he showed up claiming that he worked for Oceanic Air. He’s EVIL. You should not be trusting that guy!”
Locke begs him to listen to him.
Hugo gets up, and just like with Charlie’s visit, he plugs his ears and tries to block out Locke, “La la la la la. I wanna go back in. I wanna go back in! No. I‘m not going anywhere with you! Go away! Bye! Get out a here!”
The two nurses take Hugo away.
Locke looks back at a disappointed Abaddon.

In the car Abaddon says, “That’s three visits now. You may wanna step up your game Mr. Locke or we’re all in serious trouble.“
Locke asks Matthew what exactly does he do for Mr. Widmore.
Abaddon turns off the car, turns to Locke and asks if he’s ready to talk about it. “John, you’re not really gonna pretend you don’t remember that I was an orderly in the hospital right after your accident. That I was the one who told you to go on that walkabout. The same walkabout that put you on the plane that crashed on that Island.”
John remembers.
Abaddon- “I help people get to where they need to get to, John. That‘s what I do for Mr. Widmore.” John just looks at him.

Los Angeles, Ca.

John is in Kate’s house trying to talk her into coming back. He asks if she cares about the people who will die on the Island.
Kate asks if he’s ever been in love. She shares that she thinks about him sometimes, “Think about desperate you were to stay on that Island. And then I realized, it was all because you didn’t love anybody.”
John smiles and tells her that’s not true as he loved a woman named Helen. It just didn’t work out.
Kate-“Why not, John?”
John- “I was angry. I was…Ob-Obsessed.”
Kate quietly says, “And look how far you’ve come.”
John looks troubled.

John wheels himself outside of Kate’s house and asks Abaddon if he found Helen Norwood.
Abaddon says he didn’t, “Three years is a long time. It’s possible she got married, changed her name, maybe she moved out of state.”
John notes that he found everyone else. All of them! “Sayid was in the middle of nowhere, but you can’t find Helen because she moved.  Your job is to get people to where they need to get to, well I need to get to her.”

Santa Monica, Ca.

Thunder rolls.
Abaddon brings John to Helen’s grave marker. He tells John she died of a brain aneurysm. {Really!?} In memory of Helen Norwood. June 30, 1957-April 08, 2006.
John states that Helen loved him, “If I had just,…We could have been together.”
Abaddon- “Maybe you could have. That wouldn‘t change anything. She’d still be gone.”
John-“Would she?”
Abaddon tells John Helen’s where she’s supposed to be, “As sad as it is, her path led here. And your path, no matter what you did or what you do, your path leads back to the island.”
John- “You say that as if it’s all inevitable.”
Abaddon tells him Widmore told him that Richard Alpert said you were going to die. “So tell me, John, is that inevitable? Or is it a choice?”
John-”You think I wanna die? How’s that…how could you possibly think that‘s a choice?”
Abaddon smirks, “Hey. I’m just your driver.”
John looks at the grave marker again.

John sits in the backseat and waits while Abaddon puts the wheelchair in the trunk. Abaddon is gunned down! Locke manages to get the car moving! He runs red light, drives right into an intersection and crashes with another car. {Three cars total} John’s knocked out.

Saint Sebastian’s Hospital.

John wakes up in a hospital bed.
Slightly bearded Jack sits watching him, “What are you doing here?”
Locke looks pleased and asks Jack how he found him.
Jack tells him he “was in a car accident and was brought into my hospital. What are you doing here?”
John tells Jack “We have to go back.”    He tells jack the people they left behind need their help. “We’re supposed to go back.”
Jack- “Because it’s our destiny. How many times are you gonna say that to me, John?”
John asks him how can he not see it.  John thinks it’s more than a coincidence he ended up in Jack’s hospital.
Jack lets him know that his accident was on the west side of L.A. and his being brought there was probability not fate.
John tells him it wasn’t an accident; someone’s trying to kill him. The reason is because “they” don’t want John to succeed, they want to stop him. They don’t want him to get back because he’s important.
Jack gets emotional, “Have you ever stopped to think that these delusions that you’re special aren’t real? That maybe there’s nothing important about you at all. Maybe you’re just a lonely old man that crashed on an Island. That’s it. Good bye, John.”
John- “Your father says hello.”
John explains the man who told him to move the Island and bring them all back, said to say hello. He must be Jack’s father as he wasn’t anyone else’s father. “He said his name was Christian.”
Jack is stunned. Jack says his father is dead three years; he put him in the coffin.
John- “Well, he didn’t look dead to me.”   {Or me either.}
John raises his voice and tells him he has to come back, “You’re the only one who can convince the rest of em. You have to help me. You‘re supposed to help me.”
Jack insists it’s over, done! “We left! We were never important. So, you leave me alone. And you leave the rest of em alone!”
Jack leaves.

The shitty Westerfield Hotel. Beat and broken John, in his wheelchair, writes Jack a note.

Jack

I wish you had believed me.

J _

He puts the letter in a white envelope {Jack Shephard} in his back pocket. He looks at the cell phone and tosses it in the trash. {Why doesn't he call Widmore?!}
John looks up at a hole in the ceiling. We see John’s four toes sticking out of his cast.  He takes a RED power cord out of the Angels Hardware bag.  He ties the power cord to the radiator, stands on the table and makes the hole in the ceiling bigger, pulling tiles down.  {Looks more like a hole to get out of.}
He hangs the power cord from a beam in the hole, then actually snips the power cord to tie a noose.
He puts the power cord around his neck and as he’s about to shove off…But in perfect timing Ben knocks on the door.
Ben kicks in door #7 and wants John to STOP!

Confused John asks how he found him. Ben reveals he has a man watching Sayid; He’s watching all of them, keeping them safe. “When you turned up, he called me.”
John freaks, asks “Who? What are you doing here? What do you want from me?”
Ben claims he’s trying to protect him. John realizes it was Ben who shot Abaddon.
Ben admits he did, “But it was only a matter of time before he try to kill you. I was trying to get to you, but you drove off and crashed.  He was working for Charles Widmore, he’s extremely dangerous.”
John tells him Widmore came to him; he saved him.
Ben tells John Widmore used him. Waited for John to show up so John could help Widmore get to the Island. “Charles Widmore is the reason I moved the Island! So that he could never find it again. To keep him away so that you could lead.”
Ben approaches Locke, insisting he can’t do this, “If anything happens to you, John, you have no idea how important you are. Let me help you.”
John starts to cry, “There is no helping me. I’m, I’m a failure.”
John feels this because he couldn’t get any of them to come back with him. “I can’t lead anyone.”
Ben tells him Jack booked a plane ticket from L.A. to Sydney tonight, return trip first thing in the morning. Whatever John said to him worked, and if he got Jack, he’ll get the rest of them.
Ben kneels down in front of Locke still perched on the table and says, “John. You can’t die. You’ve got too much work to do. We’ve got to get you back to that Island so that you can do it.”
John cries.
Ben unties the power cord from the radiator and offers John his hand, “Please, John. Come on. Come down.”
Ben helps John down and John cries.
Ben continues on with his Rah-Rah speech. “You haven’t even been to Sun yet. Let's start with her.”
John tells him he promised Jin he wouldn’t bring her back.
Ben questions, “Jin is alive?”
John tells him Jin’s wishes are not to tell her he’s alive. Jin made up a story about his body washing up on the beach. ”He gave me his wedding ring to prove it.”
Ben’s wheels are turning, “All right. A promise is a promise.”
John thanks Ben.
Ben takes off his jacket and helps John walk, “Let’s go."
Ben mentions again that they can do this. Once they get them all in the same place…He doesn’t know where they go from there, but they’ll figure something out. Ben gathers up the power cord.
John reveals he knows where to go, “There’s a woman here in Los Angeles.”
John doesn’t know exactly where, she shouldn’t be hard to find. Her name is Eloise Hawking.
Ben asks if he’s sure. Ben confirms he knows her.
Ben strangles John with the power cord. John’s out.

We see John’s hanging shadow.   Ben is cleaning up the place; removing fingerprints. He takes Jin’s ring and looks up at hanging John, “I’ll miss ya, John. I really will.”

Night:
Caesar sits at the desk reading through some blue Hydra files.
John enters, “That symbol belongs to an organization called The Dharma Initiative. They were conducting some experiments here a while back.”
When asked how he knows this, John replies, “I spent more than 100 days on this Island. I know a lot.”   {On that Island? Not the Main Island? WTF?!}
Caesar- “100 days? So when we crash, you were already here?”
No,he left.
Caesar- “How long ago did you leave?”
John- “The timing would just, confuse ya.”
Caesar- “How did you get back?”
John- “To be honest, that parts a bit of a mystery to me.”
Caesar has a mystery too; maybe John can help him with it.
He tells John, on the plane he was sitting across the aisle from that really big guy with the curly hair, the plane started shaking, there was a big noise and a bright light, and this really big guy with curly hair was gone. It wasn’t only him who was gone. Some of them saw it happen to other people too. He asks Mr. John Locke, “Do you have an idea about what happened?”
John- “I think I might know how I came to be here.”     But that would involve John finding his friends, “Do you have a passenger list?”
Nope, the pilot took it when he ran off.
John asks if everyone’s accounted for, other than the ones who disappeared.
Caesar takes John to a room holding the people who got hurt.

There’s sleeping Ben.
John- “He’s the man who killed me.”

The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham is a GREAT EPISODE! John’s journey has many layers.
Which side is manipulating John?

Things to Note…Questions to ask…

  • Both John and Widmore say the people of the Island "Are my people."
  • John uses a RED power cord to hang himself; not a rope.
  • Bit. File. Folder. Crash. Driver. Exit. Power cord. = Computers. Don't ya think?
  • Emotion. Sad. Anger. Attachment.
  • Death. Rebirth.
  • Helen's date of death is April 8, which happens to be the day observed by some Buddhists and cultures as the birth of Buddha and Enlightenment.

  • Santa Domingo. Santa Rosa. Santa Monica. Saint Sebastian. Angels.
  • Yet another “birth date” for Locke/Bentham. 2/15/48.
  • Frank lands the plane on the Hydra Island.
  • Locke is “alive” on the Hydra Island.  He is not on the main Island.
  • How long has Jack been flying on Fridays? He already looked like he was on the down slide.
  • The N.Y. plate on the car was replaced by a blue and white “Empire State” plate in 2001.
  • Damn it! Locke is STILL amendable for coercion.
  • Walt should have gone back too.
  • Where’s Helen?
  • Suicide note is not the same handwriting.
  • Even Charlie was hanging “Dead”.
  • Caesar seems a bit familiar with the Hydra office. {Ben’s office}
  • Ben staged/ cleaned up Bentham’s death scene.
  • The people at Santa Rosa can see Hugo’s visitors!!
  • Why did Widmore's people protect the Island for three decades? Protect it from what/whom? Who was there before Widmore's people?
  • Guide Abaddon looks almost droid-like/synthetic when dead. I’ve said this before about Naomi too.
  • Guide. Shepherd. Captain. Conductor. Escort. Guru. Leader. Scout. Teacher. These are important as it is telling us that the castaways are being watched and  guided on this journey.
  • Apparently Ben has been trying to kill John.
  • Jack and Christian. They both now something about being obsessive.
  • Consciousness! In the mind. Brain. Thoughts. Think. Mental state. In the HEAD!
  • This episode is called the Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, not The Life and Death of John Locke.
Vocabulary and Research…
* Jeremy Bentham- an English philosopher, legal and social reformer.  He became a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law, and a political radical whose ideas influenced the development of welfarism. He is best known for his advocacy of utilitarianism, animal rights and and the idea of the Panopticon.  He attended Queens College at Oxford.
* Panopticon- a type of prison building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the incarcerated being able to tell whether they are being watched, thereby conveying what one architect has called the "sentiment of an invisible omniscience."
Bentham himself described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example."

* Locked-In syndrome is a condition in which a patient is aware and awake, but cannot move or communicate due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body. The condition has been described as "the closest thing to being buried alive".  Locked-in syndrome is usually the result of quadriplegia and inability to speak in otherwise cognitively intact individuals.
* A map projection is any method of representing the surface of a sphere or other shape on a plane. Map projections are necessary for creating maps.

 I was personally touched with this episode by watching John's continuing journey.   I must share a very strange thought with you...One thing I felt while watching this episode was the sensation the events John was experiencing were there just for "John".   Almost as if the people and events were not real, more like little performed vignettes, set forth for the purpose of exercises and testing John in some way.   Why would I say this?   The Sayid picture working for the organization, then John showing up, it seemed as if that moment was "paused" then "play was pushed again when John was ready.

It's true he was sent on a mission to Repo the people who left the "Island", but along the way we still saw John hoping things would fall into place, all because he knows his destiny is supposed to be something special.  But here, even while trying to accomplish this mission, he is distracted by emotion; his heart and feelings of confusion, anger and defeat.
With all nods to "faith" in this episode, "science" and technology was there too.  But how is science/technology and games intertwined with all this faith?  What are your thoughts on that?

Will John rediscover the "science" side of himself?  Will Jack find the "faith" side of himself?
It's very sad, both John and Jack were so lost at one point they chose to take steps to end their own lives.
Are our paths inevitable or a choice?

John's journey continues because he still needs to find himself, just as I am still trying to find myself.

Love to all who are “LOST”™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.
