DSA Week 8. Beacon of Lucidity.

Hi Losties!
Happy almost premiere night!

This post may be considered spoilery but I don't think it is. We chat about the sneak peeks.

One more round of meds, anyone?  We're almost there!
This week's DSA email from Damon and Carlton is giving us a heads up to the first couple of episodes of season 5...and a bit more. (wink, wink)

Damon and Carlton claim to be heavily medicating themselves to overcome their anxiety of the approaching premiere. Wow! Something I can relate to. lol

They give us a clip to bring us up to speed after our 8 months off.
We're told that we're getting a two hour block and to expect a Hurley centric.
The two episode titles are, "Because You Left" and "The Lie".
These pick up where the finale left off.
We also get a slide show of cast photos set to Michael Giacchino music (from Comic Con).
The slide show was put together by the DSA team.

Sneak peek:

On the boat, everyone is in different clothes. Hurley wears the same clothes.
Jack asks Hurley, “What about you?
Hurley- “I don’t we should lie, Dude.”
Jack tells him they have to protect the people, “We left behind, Hurley.”
Kate and Sun are shown. In a subtle manner Sun reacts to Jack’s statement.
Desmond and Penny sit with the group.
Hurley- "How's lying protect them?
Jack- "It protects “them” from Charles Widmore…The guy hired a boat load of people to kill all of us. He faked plane crash, you think telling him the truth, he’s just gonna, he’s gonna leave them alone?"
Hurley turns to Penny and asks, “Look. He’s your dad, right? Can’t you, like, call him off?” {Like a dog?}
Penny informs Hurley, there’s no calling her father off.   Sayid listens.
Hurley goes on to say, “The island disappeared. We all saw it. It’s gone. Bloop.”

Things to note…Questions to ask...
* Who really is behind the “faked” a plane crash”?
* Jack believes that Widmore is behind everything. I can’t help but wonder if there’s more to the story. Who is really behind everything? What are we really seeing?
* 2 sides. 2 choices... To lie or not to lie.
* Hurley is the one who is trying to be honest. Is he the one who is seeing "clearer"? Or is everyone else? Why is everyone else so willing to lie, as if they don't have a choice. Who is really doing the lying?
* Language/linguistics. Learning. Growth. Enlightenment.
* Island disappeared, Gone. Bloop.
* Underwater

Vocabulary and Research...
* Bloop- The Bloop is the name given to the ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. N.O.A.A. several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown. The sound, traced to somewhere around South American southwest coast, was detected repeatedly by the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array, which uses U.S. Navy equipment originally designed to detect Soviet submarines. According to the NOAA description, it "rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km." According to scientists who have studied the phenomenon it matches the audio profile of a living creature but there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much larger than even a Blue Whale.
Bloop- In the ARG for the movie, the Bloop was also linked to Cloverfield monster.
• The title track from Dntel’s 2001 album Life Is Full of Possibilities, repeats a sample of the Bloop sound set to music.
• Because the Bloop noise originated near the location of the fictional sunken city of R'lyeh from H.P. Lovecraft’s story “The Call of Cthulu, Bloop has been linked to Cthulhu by the authors fans.

Bharosa- Indian/Hindu word trust in me/believe in me or trust/believe in something.

Passwords: LaFleur. Qilak. Adella Courey. Kapalaran. yksnizdar. emal. holma. bharosa.

In an additional continuation clip of this particular dialogue Jack asks Hurley if thinks anyone would believe him, they'd all think he's crazy.   Hurley feels that wouldn't be the case if someone backs him up.
He reaches out for Sayid's support, "Come on. They'll think I'm nuts if I tell the truth.  But what if we all do?"
Hurley feels if they can stick together, "we can make them believe us."
Hurley does not want to spend the rest of his life lying. He asks Sayid if he does.
Sayid says "No."

Another sneak peek/promo I do want to address is the one shown this week:
A dog is barking...(hmmm)
Hurley in his Santa Rosa attire, eating a sandwich, asks Sayid when he became so paranoid. Sayid reveals, "If you spent the last two years doing the things I was doing, you'd be paranoid too."    He was working for Benjamin Linus.
Hurley is surprised that, "He's on our side now?"
Sayid tells Hurley if he ever has the misfortune of running into him, whatever he tells you, just do the opposite.
Sayid discovers there is a breach (tape) into the room. He tells Hurley to wait here.
Sayid gets into it with the two guys who were inside the room. Sayid throws one guys off the balcony.
Inside the room, while fighting with the other guy, Sayid gets shot with a dart. Sayid fakes being "out" then hits the guy with a pan.
They struggle some more.
The dishwasher conveniently opens with knives conveniently pointed up and the bad guy falls on top of them.
Hurley, still outside, stares at the gun on the ground. He picks it up and looks over the balcony. As a crowd gathers below him, a man takes a photo of Hurley holding the gun.
Someone yells "The guys got a gun...Run...get out of here."   They scatter. {like bugs}
Hurley helps a weak Sayid out to the car.
Hurley comments, he thought it was supposed to be a safe house, "I never should have left that island."

Things to note...Questions to ask...
* Again we have hints to Santa Rosa, mental health, mind games, manipulation, crazy and nuts.-The Head.
* Game. Sides. Opposition.
* Apparently the safe house isn't so safe.
* Opposite. {Through the Looking Glass}
* Darts. The Other's use darts to knock people out or put them to sleep.
* Who do those thugs work for?
* Is Ben behind this attack? Is he behind the men showing up at Kate's wanting DNA blood work regarding Aaron's parentage? If so, Ben would know that would be something to kick start Kate into running again. Are any of these types of things a ploy to help motivate the Oceanic 6 into wanting to go back to that "island"?  They would think it was their idea to return to it. If that's the case, it's pretty friggin clever.

Just as in this week's DSA email, this week's sneak peeks also had some hints and references to mental health, psychiatric medication, things pertaining to what goes on in the head.   So, who's crazy beside me? Maybe I'm the one who is a paranoid, delusional, unstable and a gullible alien. My bed is still reserved at Santa Rosa. I wonder who else will be there? Maybe you! Is any of this making any sense?

LIE. I was taught to always tell the truth and never to lie. I've learned a lie can not go on forever. The truth will always come to the surface. We all know that life is a series of learning and experiences. We learn how to make choices and decisions, right or wrong. No one person is perfect. We learn from our mistakes. I have seen lies snowball into something so monstrous that it devastated many lives. No good can come from lying.

I'm sure there is a bigger lie lurking somewhere in our story.  If so, and it gets out, I wonder how it will affect everyone and everything.

Karma. What you put out there comes back to you. What comes around goes around. "It all comes back around"

Love to all who are "LOST" ™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! Things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. I hate spoilers! I stand clear of reading certain sites, as to not take me off my own research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Good! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues in bold.

  1. Karen, I have been following you on the ODI podcast and you mentioned that you started posting your notes to this site. Thank you for this big effort. I have been trying to read through as many as possible before S5 next week. The many ways in which fans of LOST express themselves - original video, podcast, thread board, and blogs - is sometimes the more compelling story. You are one of these unique voices. Stream of consciousness notetaking! My mind streams along similarly [note the reference to water]. If you ever go back and answer all those great questions, I would only suggest that, if possible, could you color code that text? I really appreciate your BOLD comment and {your voice} comments. I have added you in my RSS feed, and thanks for the sidebar links in the 'you all everybody' section. I have checked out some of these previous unvisited. I spent the hiatus over at the Transmission rewinding S2 with Ryan and Jen, picking my fantasy league with Dark, booked my seat to Guam (although I don't have much hope of this being a true ARG), lurking through the thread boards, and, of course, enjoying the DSA from D & C. You mentioned that you have a theory about the island. Is that posted here? Thanks for all you hard work. No lie. From a humble student.

  3. To Lottery Ticket: Thank you so much for the kind words and support. And I love the idea of color coding things if I ever "go back" and answer questions!!!

    To T.L.A....I can't wait to get "back" to writing about the premiere and all the episodes to follow.
    The first 2 episodes were AMAZING! There certainly was a lot to take in! My notes will be up within the next few days.
