Two for the Road.

Let's talk about LOST!   Two for the Road.

”Michael!”   In the jungle Kate tries to wake up Michael, but to no avail.
Jack looks around and suggests, "Maybe they just let him go."
Kate insists "Let him go?! He's alone! They didn’t just push him out into the jungle, Jack! He’s alone.”
Super Jack literally carries unconscious Michael back to camp.

In the hatch Ana Lucia is cutting up fruit. {wears a ring} She looks over to see that Locke is sleeping/snoring on the bottom bunk. Deep sleep. {Crutches.}
We get a shot of the armory door combination lock.
{Flash Whoosh}
A shot of police cars on a rooftop parking lot. {The code/numbers on the roofs of the cars. Ana is in a car with a number on top.}
Ana Lucia's mom, The Captain/Theresa tells Ana she looks tired.
The Captain asks about her whereabouts last night.  Ana tells Captain mom that she was home, cooked some dinner and watched TV. {You hear helicopters fly overhead.}
Suspicious mom asks, “What did you watch?”
Ana doesn’t answer. Mom suggests they go for a drive.

At the morgue is the dead body of Jason McCormick.
Mom-“Remember Jason McCormick.”
He was executed. He was found in a parking lot just after 3 am; he was dead an hour before anyone saw him. {He was killed at 2 am.} Crime scene pulled a gun from the dumpster. The registration was filed off, no prints, no witnesses.

Captain Mom feels Ana did it. "This man confesses to shooting you in cold blood and you refuse to ID him, so we had to cut him loose. A week later he shows up with five bullets in his chest because someone shot him in cold blood.”
Ana's reply is that she should get herself a lawyer.
Captain Mom tells Ana that they both know it's going to be a dead end investigation, so if Ana did this she has to let mom help her.
Ana thanks her, but doesn't need any help.
Captain mom- "You don't want my help, you're gonna have to get it from somewhere else. You're a police officer, Ana. If you don't respect me, at least respect that!"
Ana hands her badge to Captain mom and says, “Then I quit.”   She opens the door to leave.
{Flash Whoosh}
Ana opens the armory door and enters, “Hey Henry. What do ya say?”
She brings Henry fresh fruit. We see that he hasn't eaten the last serving of fruit.  Ana wonders how long he’s going to keep up the hunger strike.   Ana tells Henry the story about her being a cop, mentioning how she’s been around a lot of killers in her life.    She says she's surprised mostly by how much killers love to talk. She fells Henry is different; quiet.
Henry mumbles something and smirks. {Ana is the one doing all the talking. Fake Henry hasn't talked in days.}
Ana gets in close and tells him to speak up and Henry attacks and chokes her.
Henry- "You killed two of us. Good people who were leaving you alone."
Ana fights back but Henry chokes her again and says "You're the killer Ana Lucia."
Locke knocks out Henry with his crutch.
Locke-"I guess he decided to start talking, huh?!"

Bored Ana is wand-ing people in the airport. {Important! She wands a guy with a lovely plaid shirt. The signs over her head are Priority checkpoint, bars and restaurants, departure gates}
Ana appears very displeased with her current "job".

In the airport bar Ana orders a tequila and tonic from Mike the bartender.
Christian is there, drinking. He turns to Ana and says "Long day, huh? Good to see you again. You, uh, wanded me at security." {When?} He orders another drink and asks her "So how does one get into wand-ing?"
Ana-"One stops being a cop."
Christian- "What a coincidence. I just stopped being a doctor."
He didn't quit.  His son ratted him out for drinking on the job; he lost his license.
Ana chuckles and shares with him she doesn’t believe that parents and their kids should work together; too many issues. {Yet this seems to be the case with some Castaways.}
Christian will drink to that. Christian is headed to Sydney, Australia. He asks her if she wants to go with him.
Christian- "Maybe fate has thrown the two of us together, you know, like two drinks in an airport bar.”
Ana wonders, “Why would fate do that?”
Christian- “Oh. The same reason fate does anything. So that we can help each other out. You do need help, right?...Unless you don’t."
He goes on to tell her what he’s doing down there can be a little dangerous and he needs someone to protect him; a “bodyguard'.   It’s perfect for someone who stopped being a cop.
Ana-“I don’t even know your name.”
Christian-“Oooh. Let’s not use real names.”
They’ll pick made up names for each other. Ana thinks he looks like a Tom and Christian feels she should be a Sarah. {He says the name with some affection. Reading body language. Ana could appear to seem like 'what have I gotten myself into?' I know, I'm over analyzing again.}

At the beach, Ana is looking into a mirror. {Yes a mirror. We also see Libby's reflection.} She has to stitch herself up.
Ana tells Libby that she cut herself shaving then reveals, "The guy in the hatch tried to kill me."
Libby asks if she's okay.

Ana replies she’s fine, "But he won't be."

Libby advises her not to do anything stupid. {Why would she say that? What do both of these chicks know? They know things.}

Locke is inspecting the blast doors. He heads over to the armory, uses the combination and opens the door.
Henry is sitting in total darkness. Henry forgives John for hitting him with his crutch, “I’m so glad my head didn’t break it.”
Locke turns the lights on and asks Henry why he tried to hurt Ana Lucia but not him. “I was trapped under that blast door, helpless. You could’ve crushed my skull but you didn’t do a thing. Why didn’t ya?”
Henry-"Because you're one of the good ones, John."
John-“What? Good...what?”
Henry tells him that none of this matters; he's dead anyway. "Doctor's gone to make a trade. We both know he'll come back empty handed and then I've lost my value."
Either way he'll end up dead.
Locke wonders why his own people would want to kill him.
Henry-"Because the man in charge. He's a great man, John. A brilliant man. But he's not a forgiving man. He'll kill me because I failed, John. I failed my mission."
John- "What mission?"
Henry-"When that woman caught me in her trap. I was on my way here, John. I was coming for you."
Locke looks uneasy.   Distant voices are calling out for Locke to come out here.  Kate and Jack hurry in carrying Michael.  Locke closes the door on Henry.

Hot Sawyer is by the creek picking fruit.   Here comes bitch Ana, touching his mango's!   Sawyer’s been knocking those things down for 20 minutes.   The Bitch tells him she needs a gun.  Sawyer suggests she go to her buddy Jack; he’s got a gun.  But Jack is still traipsing around the jungle with Kate.
Ana-“If you got a problem cause he’s making time with your girlfriend, don’t take it out on me, man. How bout you just give me a gun.”
Sawyer tries to chase Ana off like he would a dog.  Ana turns and leaves.
{Flash Whoosh}
In a hotel room in Sydney, Ana can’t sleep. {Clock- 3 5 1} She grabs some liquor and looks out the window. {We see her reflection.}
Rough and tired looking Christian knocks on the door, "Sarah. Open the damn door.”
Ana answers.
Christian- "Good. You’re up. It's time. Protection duty. Come on. Let’s go."
Ana- "After four days of drinking and doing nothing, now, in the middle of the night you're ready to go."
That’s exactly right.
Christian- "Fate's calling, Sarah."

In the pouring rain they drive to a small home. {'Walking after midnight' plays.} Christian tells her to pull over, takes another shot and instructs Ana to stay in the car. He knocks on the door.   {Blue jeep in the driveway} A blond woman answers. They argue. You can hear Christian yell “She's my daughter and I have every right to see her!"
The blond woman says he doesn't have a right. This angers him and he physically tried to barge into the home.  Apparently he wants to see his daughter; and he pays the mortgage, etc."
Ana sees this and gets out, restrains and removes him from the house. As the woman yells “You need help.”
She and Ana share a look.

Back at camp Sayid is digging a hole. Hurley talks to Sayid about the radio they made.   He would like it to play some music for Libby.   Sayid tells him it only worked once and only for a minute, he’s tried several times since and only gotten static.
Hurley feels "Even that would be good."    He also feels he’ll score major points, “Especially when she sees me holding it over my head.” {Hurley likes static? LOL} Very Romantic! Sayid asks why he would hold a static generating radio over his head.
Hurley sounds amazed, "They didn't have 'Say Anything' in Baghdad?”
He explains how in the movie the dude holds the boom box over his head, outside this chick’s window and it plays this Peter Gabriel song, for her and BAM, the girl is his, after her dad goes to jail {The song is called 'In Your Eyes'.}
Sayid drinks water from a DHARMA water bottle, not an Oceanic bottle.   Hurley suggests Sayid check it out sometime, “I mean, if we ever get off this Island.”
Sayid suggests the romantic beach 3 kilometers from there. He took Shannon there once.

In the hatch, Jack examines Michael He's not waking up. {Jack’s actually forcing open his eye lids.}
Locke comes in and assumes for a moment that the “deal, the tradeworked.    Jack says they didn't give us anything. Locke asks if it was a coincidence that Michael came wondering out of the jungle. Jack says he was shouting and Michael heard his voice. Locke looks confused.
Jack- "What? They just let Michael go, hoping we'd keep our end of the bargain? You think they're on the honor system?" {WTF?! Jack wondered the same thing in the jungle.}
Nurse Kate enters.

Sawyer is walking by a beautiful stream; he hears a twig snap, “Come out, come out whoever you are! I know you’re there. Don’t make me come in after you.”
Guess who appears? Ana Lucia.
Armed Sawyer says, “Well, well, well. What do we got here? Is Little Red Riding Hood gonna follow the Big Bad Wolf back to his stash o’guns?”
Ana, with her arms crossed suggests he give her that one.
Sawyer-"I ain't gonna give me you nothing."
She starts to approach adorable Sawyer and he says, “We’ve been through this Lucy
She tackles him and they wrestle. {I'm cracking up!}
Ana kisses/seduces/whatever Sawyer. {WTF? I'm just sick right now.}

Ana is driving the car down by the docksDrunk Christian is with her.  Christian needs some damn music in here.  Ana asks who the woman is.
Christian-“Who is who?.. She is a very long story, Sarah."
{He's very comfortable with the name Sarah; even when drunk and his head bothering him.}

Ana tells him her real name, but he's still Tom. {He apparently needs to keep his identity a secret.}
They stop outside the 'The Last Call' bar.
Ana-“Why are you here?”
Pathetic Christian tells her "I’m here because I can't apologize to my son. He tried to help me, so I thanked him by cutting him off, I thanked him by hating him. You came here for the same reason I did, kiddo. You ran away."
Christian suggests they go in, where fate has delivered them, and have a drink or 10 and be pathetic together.
Ana declines.
Christian- "That's your call."
Christian opens the car door and hits Sawyer with it! {He appears to be walking away from the bar area, not to it. But what do I know.}
Ana tries to talk Christian into leaving.
Ana - "Lets just get the hell out of Sydney.   Let’s just go.  Let’s Go Back."
Christian- "I can’t ever go back….See ya, Kiddo." {What are the two of them really involved in here?}
Christian heads to the bar.

In the jungle, Sawyer asks Ana, “Don’t ya want my phone number?"
Ana threatens him "You tell anyone about this, and I'll kill you." {BITCH!}

At the beach food pantry Hurley is packing a big picnic for Libby.   Libby thinks the food is for him. Busted Hurley tells her, “This isn’t what it looks like...It looks like something...that...it’s not.
Libby’s not there to tell him how to act around food.   He tells her about the surprise picnic 'date'.

In the hatch Jack is cleaning the medical instruments/tools.
Locke is sitting behind him reading a book.
Ana walks in says to Jack "Hey. You're back...So the Others, they didn’t show up."
She is very surprised to see that Michael is back. {What does she know?}
Jack asked Ana how she got hurt on her head.
Locke makes up a story of how she got hurt. “My fault. I left the tap on in the bathroom sink and Ana wiped out and hit her head on the counter. And I’m sorry, again.” apologizing to Ana.

Michael tells the story about finding the others. "I found them. After I left ...I hiked North, back to where we were (referring to Ana).  Hiked to the beach, followed the shoreline, a day later... I saw one...{Locke asks what did he look like}.... Dirty, worn clothing, no shoes, simple. Just like the rest of um…Yeah, his people, The Others. I followed him back to his camp. They live in tents, canvas tents, and teepees. They eat dried fish. They're worse off than we are."   He counted 22  of them.
Jack asks about the boat .{The boat.}
Michael didn't see it. Jack asks him if he saw Waaaaaaaaaaalt?
Michael- “No. But I know he’s there. {How?}
Ana asks about everyone else they took; Cindy, any other kids?
He says no. He thinks they're in the same place as his boy.   Michael goes on to mention they have a hatch, “There’s a set of metal doors leading underground. What else could it be?... They keep it guarded 24/7.  Two guards two guns. And two guns is all I saw.   They're barely armed. Most of them are old and half of them are women. {Ana looks troubled}
Mike’s getting emo, he tells them “I couldn't save him. So I came back to tell you. Tell you that we can take them.” {Yeah! Let’s rumble!}
As soon as Michael gets his strength back he's gonna take them back there and they are gonna get his boy back. {WOW! Michael sure can tell a tale! Also, Kate told Jack about the costumes she found in the medical hatch. Why didn't they mention that to Michael?}

Locke is at the computer, drawing/writing.
Jack tells Locke that he was right about Henry.  He shouldn't have gotten in his and Sayid's way.
Locke-"You did what you thought was right at the time that you thought it, Jack." {Important statement.}

Locke hopes the next time Jack decides to do something, that it includes him. And something tells him it's going to be soon. {Again, Important statement!}
Jack says Michael said they can take them.
Locke says that their friend with the beard told them not to cross the line. {But Jack crossed the line already}
Jack says they're all liars; why should they take their word on anything. Locke agrees.

Locke and Jack are "Going to get our guns back from Sawyer."
Kate is filling up water bottles. Jack tells Kate they will need her to help convince Sawyer to give up the guns. {Why would Kate be a help with that?}
Ana will stay and take care of Michael. She passes along a message to Jack, "Give Sawyer my best."
Jack- “Alright. We’ll be back soon.”
Ana looks at the armory door. {Ana, Michael and Henry are left in the hatch! YEP. Plus, which one is going to push the button?}

Hurley and Libby are on their way to the secret beach.
Hurley advises Libby to watch her head, “We’re almost there.” {THIS IS IMPORTANT!}
Libby asks him if he ever watched the Flintstones. He says he watched all the time when he was in the hospital... when he broke his hip. {A cover story.}
Libby-"You ever notice how Fred would run by the same thing over and over again. Third time past this tree."
She points to a specific tree.
Hurley says that’s a different tree.  Exhausted Libby tells him its okay if he’s lost but Hurley insists he’s not lost.
They arrive at the secret beach.
Hurley-“Surprise!”
Libby-"Hurley. This is our beach. There's Jin.”
Indeed he is there cleaning a fish.    Libby suggests they have the picnic there and asks for the blankets. But  Hurley forgot the blankets and the drinks.   Libby will go get the blankets.
Hurley is to find Rose and Bernard for wine they pulled from the pallet.   Hurley says if he gets drunk enough "Maybe I can remember where I know you from." {She knows him. He still has to fully recall her!}
Jin gives Hurley the thumbs up.

Sawyer is reading the manuscript for 'Bad Twin'. {Groovy glasses.} Jack wants him to put the book down. Sawyer tells Jack he's going to be the "First and only guy to find out who done it. I think I got it figured out. So cool your damn jets and walk around the coconuts trees, I got like 10 pages left."
Jack throws the manuscript into the fire. “It’s time to give us the guns back.”
Sawyer-“You burn the ending of my book and now you wan…”
Kate tells Sawyer to stop playing around.
Sawyer-“What, you bring her around for a sympathy vote.  She aint in my head, Doc. So why don’t you two go play in the jungle.”
Jack pulls a gun on Sawyer.
Sawyer realizes that the BITCH stole his gun! “Son of a bitch.” {She's a thief and a killer.}

Locke seems to “see/think”. {Image of Ana taking a gun out from under a pant leg and opening the armory door.} He needs to tell Jack something.

Ana slides a pocket knife across the floor to Henry, “Pick it up...cut yourself loose.
Henry seems confused.
Ana tells him "You know why."
As Henry is cutting himself loose he shares with her that Goodwin told them all about her. That she was misunderstood. Goodwin thought she was worthy; about how he can change her; but he was wrong and it cost him his life. Once free, Henry puts down the knife.
Ana states, “He was gonna kill me.”
Henry -"Was he?"
{So Henry had contact with Goodwin all along. Or was this information he had prior?}
Ana asks if he’s done. Yes he is done. Ana aims the gun at Henry.
Henry-“So, this is it, huh?”
Yep.

At the airport check in counter Jack is talking to Chrissy.  He’s in the same suit he’s wearing to his father’s funeral and he’s asking her a favor. We see Jin {listening}
We see Ana in a line, listening.   Wearing her Brown leather jacket, white shirt with a large round circle in it, 2 necklaces, ring on left hand. {IN ANOTHER 48 DAYS WHEN SHE POPS OUT OF THE WATER IN THE OPENING SCENE SHE IS WEARING HER BLACK TOP, BROWN JACKET, NO NECKLACES!}
Jack’s dialogue goes on to say that he can’t take his time with it because, “I need it to be done. I need it to be over.”
Ana hears all this and makes a phone call while standing in the cue.
No longer in a line, we hear Ana’s end of the call. "That was an airplane...No. I’m not at work. I’m in Sydney...That’s right, Australia...I...I don’t know...I made a mistake, mom. You knew, so I got as far away from you as I could. But now, I want to come home."
Captain Mom tells her to come home.
Ana says she's on Oceanic flight 815. Mom will be there when she lands.
{Flash Whoosh}

In the hatch, Ana is on the couch with the gun. She seems worn out and melancholy.
Michael asks where everyone is.
Ana informs him what he said got everyone worked up, they went to get all the guns back from Sawyer.
Michael seems surprised Sawyer has all the guns, “At least he didn’t get that one.”
Too bad she can’t use it, “We caught one of them. The Others. He's locked in there.” For over a week.

Michael asks if she’s taking care of him.
Ana-“He tried to kill me today. So I wanted him dead.”
But she couldn't do it. "I couldn’t even kill him. I looked at him and he…I can't do this anymore."
Michael offers to do it. He's seen these people and they are animals.
Ana gives him the combination. 18 right, 1 left, 31 right.
Michael says, “I’m sorry.” and shoots Ana!!!! {I'm doing the happy dance right now!!}
Libby enters with the blankets and  he fires two shots into her.
Michael opens the armory door, looks directly at Henry and shoots himself in the left arm.

Two for the Road is a great episode! It is very important.
We have been seeing not just connections but also parallels, repetitive situations, and "time issues".  Not to mention trades, missions, scoring major points and the loss of value! What is this...a friggin' video game?!
Plus...damn are these people tired!!

Things to note...Questions to ask...
I'm jumping up on my soapbox again...I still feel "Flashes" are not in time order! They are not linear.  They jump around and are blurred together.  I don't think they're what we're led to believe they are.
How much time passed between Ana quitting her cop job then working security at an airport to when she hooks up with Christian?
♟  Ana doesn't accept help from her mother. Why?
Ana wearing two different outfit's the day of the "flight"?   Are all "flights" to the "Island" called Oceanic 8 1 5? LOL!!!    Are they showing us different trips/times to the "Island"? Maybe Ana was not on the "plane". The Tailies are never seen on the "plane".  They make mention that they are, but we never see them (up to this point anyway).   Does that mean anything? What the hell do I know? LOL!!!   I just find it pretty important that we see Ana popping up out of the water in different clothes in another episode!
Ana's role/job is a police officer, although she ends up working security. Is Ana security for the "Island"? Security or a killer? Both?
♟ Bodyguard.
Bad Twin did get made in to a book and published.
I always felt that Christian makes MANY trips to Australia over many, many years. Does Christian have a role with the island too? He is a rich doctor. In addition to that could he be a head hunter for the "Island"?
Ana wands Christian at the airport
Ben wands Jack at the airport in Locke's vision in "Further Instructions".
Ana meets Christian in an airport bar. Ana meets Jack in an airport bar. Coincidence? Not! What is Christian's meeting Ana, and then Ana's meeting Jack in the similar airport bar situation.
Jack throws the manuscript into the fire.
Michael throws the comic book into the fire.
Jack and Ana have to go to a morgue to ID someone.
I.D. (identity) NO I.D..  Making up names and changes jobs and roles.
Manuscript/script.
Mission. Worth. Value. Cost. Strength. Points.
Color of this episode-Red.
Who is “Fate”?
10
♟ Static.
Just for laughs, I'll mention that Peter Gabriel was in the band Genesis at one time. Genesis=Beginning

Vocabulary and Research...
Wand- 1) A long slender stick used by a magician, conjurer or diviner. 2) A rod carried as a emblem of one's office or authority. 3) Music conductors baton. Or a hand held electronic device, use for security purposes.
The name Henry: origins German. Meaning “The ruler of the house.”
Counter- In board games a small object, often a flat disk, used to mark a player's position or to keep score.
- A device/someone that counts.
-Return a punch
- Moving away from attacking linemen in football.
- End of a ship’s stern.
- To say something that contradicts or opposes what somebody has said. Opposition to what somebody else is doing, so as to make it less effective.

Here Ana outright says she 'can't do this anymore'; she's done and also that she wants to go home and low and behold she's out of the adventure/journey/game (level).  Interesting huh?

Jack and Christian's issues are all over this episode too.  Jack has some major healing to do. We have come back to Jack at the Oceanic counter a couple of times, all painfully pleading that he can’t take his time with it {burying Christian}, because, “I need it to be done. I need it to be over.”

BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK!!!!!!!
Libby's Flintstones comment! WOW! That's fucking important!! A clue to them reliving or redoing the same thing over and over.   Is this a clue to them returning back to the "Island" or just having to start over or both.  If they are part of a study or experiment or just playing things over, have they been back 10 times? Or just once before and this is the sequel?

Coincidence or Fate? Are all the situations in this episode just coincidences or has "Fate" stepped in to be sure these people and situations play out?  There's got to be more than coincidence at play here.

Two for the road...Who is leading who down this road?  Does Christian lead Ana? Does Ana lead Jack? What about Henry, Locke and Hurley?

For everyone  all roads lead to the "Island".
Are the two for the road Ana Lucia and Libby, or is it two ....?

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin!I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

Outlaws

Let's talk about LOST! Outlaws.

{Click the pics!}

A little boy’s eye opens. His mom wakes him up, “He’s here.” A man’s voice can be heard in the distance banging on the door in anger and demanding the door to be opened.
Mom hides him under his bed, “He’ll think you’re still with your grandparents, okay?”
It’s important for the boy to listen to mommy. She wants him under the bed, don’t make a sound and don’t come out no matter what happens. She hugs him and they both say I love you. All the while the man is trying to get in the door.
Mom-“Let’s go. Down you go.”
The boy hides under the bed.
He hears mom yelling for Wayne to “stop it” and wanting to know what’s wrong with him. A shot rings out!
The man comes in to the boys room (The boy has tears in his eyes. We see the man’s cowboy boots.) and sits on the bed, shoots/kills himself.

Sawyer jolts awake. It is night in his beach tent. He seems disoriented for a moment. He hears noises; snorting and grunting. Something is in his tent with him and knocks things over. Sawyer uses a flashlight to shine some light on the thing and discovers it’s an ugly ass boar.
He attacks it with a stick but it runs away, taking the tarp with it. Sawyer chases it as it runs through the beach camp and into the jungle.
Sawyer stops and looks around in the dark jungle and hears whispers. They sound like layers of different voices. One voice stands out, "It'll come back around”.

It’s daylight on the beach and Sawyer is cleaning up the mess the boar made.
Sayid wanders over and wonders, “Boar took your tarp?”    It was dark but Sawyer’s pretty sure it was a boar. Sayid thought the boar vacated this area. Sawyer tells the genius they got some bad info. {That info came from Locke.}
Sayid asks what it was doing inside his tent.
Sawyer-“It was staring at me. Then it came at me so I hit it and it ran off into the jungle.” with his tarp.
Sayid jokes, “Perhaps he wanted to go camping.”
Sayid happens to be enjoying himself at Sawyer’s expense. Sawyer tells Mohammad to laugh it up, as he closes up the suitcase housing some of his stash, “But I come back, find my stuff’s goneI’m coming after you.”
Sayid smirks as this amuses him; Sayid walks away.
Sawyer calls him back and in all seriousness asks him what he heard after he ran into the French woman in the jungle.
Sayid- “I was injured. I was exhausted. My mind was playing tricks.”
Sawyer-“What did you hear?”
Sayid-“I thought I heard whispering.”
Sawyer- “What was it sayin?”
Sayid asks why, “Did you hear something?”
Sawyer seems to have second thoughts about this and tells Sayid to “Forget it. I didn’t hear anything.” Sawyer turns and marches off. {In to slow motion, I might add!}

{Flash Whoosh}

A door opens Sawyer and a woman enter making out. She asks him what he’s still so afraid of. Sawyer remarks he’s not the one trembling. They kiss in the dark room.
A voice in the dark says “Okay. This is really awkward.” Hibbs is sitting in a chair, in the dark waiting for him. He needs to have a chat with Sawyer alone. So Sawyer sends the lady down to the bar to get a drink. She wonders who that is and doesn’t want to leave Sawyer there. Sawyer will go get her and explain as soon as he gets rid of Hibbs. “I’ll come find you. Promise.”

Hibbs compliments Sawbucks on the women he gets.   Sawyer pushes him against the wall and recalls with certainty he told Hibbs if he ever saw him again he would kill him.
Hibbs showed up to make things right, “We both know you ain’t the killing type.”
Hibbs wants to make things even for the Tampa job.
He presents a large yellow envelope containing the known whereabouts to the man who ruined Sawyer’s life.
Hibbs makes himself a drink and offers Sawyer one. He asks Sawyer if he remembers old man Parks; ran capper for us on that gig in Atlanta. Sawyer remembers; he looks through the file, papers and photo.
Hibbs-“He's been working the wire at an off track parlor down in Sydney. So last week one of his regulars gets a little too sauced starts running his mouth off about his glory days as a grifter. That guy, Frank Duckett, real hard luck case. Gambling addict, alcoholic, runs a shrimp truck. Back in the day this guy Duckett was quite the hustler.  He ran the romance angle, hooked the wife and took the husband for all the money. He was pretty good at it too from what I hear. Till sadly one of his marks in despair took a gun, shot up his wife and blew his own head off.   All in front of their little boy. I paid Tony to pull his jacket.  Turns out Frank Duckett used to be named Frank Sawyer. A name I believe you appropriated for yourself.”
Sawyer looks at the photo intensely and asks, “This is him?”
Hibbs-“That’s him.”
{Flash Whoosh}
In the jungle Kate thanks Jack for the loner. {Both are wearing purple.} They are putting the guns back into the beat up silver case.   Kate asks if anyone’s curious where they came from.
Jack shares the others knew there was a marshal on the plane and he guesses they assumed he was traveling alone. “Protecting them from terrorists. Sounds like a good theory to me.”
Jack locks up the silver case with the key, hides the silver case under a black rock and covers it with grass.   He got all the guns back except for one.   Jack will give Kate three guesses to guess who still has a gun.
Kate guesses Sawyer on the first try and says she can get it back. After all she speaks his language.
Jack chuckles- “We’ve done this before, Kate and if I remember it right, you made out with him and he never even had what you said you could get.“
Kate only made out with him because torturing him didn’t work.  Jack chuckles again and says to let Sawyer keep the gun; it’s not worth it.   Jack doesn’t want Kate to owe Sawyer anything.

In the caves pregnant Claire sits next to Charlie and reveals she had some dreams last night; actually more like memories and Charlie was in them.   Charlie is busy working on something. Claire asks if he wants to go for a walk.
Charlie doesn't appear to be as interested and makes up an excuse, “Sorry. I have to do…something.” He says he’ll see her later but he seems a bit annoyed.  Claire waves goodbye to him.

Sawyer is out in the jungle looking for the boar.  He comes upon his blue tarp. He angrily carries it back to camp. On his way he hears whispers again. "It'll come back around." The boar grunts and sorts behind him and chases Sawyer. Sawyer throws the tarp down as he runs.
Sawyer ends up in the mud with the boar running past him. “Son of a bitch!”

Later Sawyer, packing a knife and cleaning up the mess the boar made, tells Kate that the boar did all this. Last night it wrecked his tent and this morning when he went to get his tent back it attacked him from behind and runs off into the jungle like a coward.
Kate is amused, sharing that a boar wouldn’t attack you for no reason.
Sawyer thanks the boar expert, “This one did. It’s harassing me.”
He gets his gun; he's getting even! Kate tells him to listen to himself and suggests telling Locke about the boar and he’ll go kill it. Sawyer says no, because this is his fight.
Kate offers to help him track the boar {Because she knows how.} She thinks he’s going to get himself lost or worse. Since Kate really doesn’t care, he excuses himself as he has some revenge to attend to. Sawyer walks away.
{Flash Whoosh}

Sawyer is in Australia. He walks down the dock and into what appears to be a machine/metal shop. {The open door’s sign says Do Not Enter.} There is welding going on.
Sawyer walks right up to a guy in the back of the shop who knows Sawyer is Hibbs’ mate.  This contact did a few jobs with Hibbs back in the States. He is preparing a gun for Sawyer.  The contact informs Sawyer of a few disclaimers…”
Australia doesn’t allow citizens to carry handguns. You get nicked with this…”
Sawyer-“I’m not gonna rat you out.”
They exchange the gun for cash.
The contact goes on to say, “Secondly, you know, I've been doing this for awhile and a man who buys a compact 357 with hollow point loads… he's not looking to scare or steal. He's looking to kill. But when it comes down to it if he finds he doesn't have what it takes to do the job. . .”
Sawyer tells him his sales pitch needs some work.
All this dude is saying is you look a man in the eye and point a gun at him, you find out who you really are. “And should you find you’re not a killerthere’s no refund.”
Sawyer feels that won’t be a problem.

Hurley is helping appreciative Charlie carry Ethan’s body.
Charlie-“I killed Ethan, I can bury him.”
Hurley- “Yeah. Until he rises from the dead.”
{Note: this line is said by Hurley but Hurley’s mouth isn’t moving in the shot. It could be an editing/ADR mishap...or not. But I’m noting it just the same.}
Hurley-Dude, I know how this works. This is gonna end with you and me running through the jungle screaming and crying. It catches me first because I’m heavy and I get cramps.” {Watch Charlie’s face here.}
Charlie starts digging the grave.  Hurley quietly asks Charlie if he’s alright but Charlie doesn’t distract from his focused digging, never acknowledging Hurley.

At the beach Hurley asks Sayid if he ever got that Gulf war syndrome.
Sayid-“That was the other side.”
Hurley wonders what is the one where you’re like, “Shell shocked.”
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Hurley- “Yeah. That’s it. Did you ever have that?”
Sayid wonders why he’s asking.
Hurley’s worried about Charlie, “I mean he killed a guy. Shot him in the chest four times.”
He suggests Sayid talk to him.

Sawyer walks through the jungle trying to track the boar.   Kate is right behind him.
She informs him based on the tracks he’s been following Boone for about an hour.  She supposes it could be Charlie. {Why? Boone and Charlie make the same tracks?!}
Kate offers to help track this boar but she wants Carte Blanche. (Blank check.) Apparently over the last few hours Sawyer has managed to follow the tracks of humans, birds, a rock slide, himself, basically everything except boar.   He has no idea what he’s doing.
Kate-“Anytime I want something from your stash, medicine, soap, whatever, I get it. No questions asked...Take it or leave it.“
Sawyer- “Alright, you got a deal.”

At night Sawyer and Kate sit around a campfire. Sawyer takes out a little bottle of booze and starts drinking it.   Kate wonders where he got that.
Sawyer- “Plane.“
Kate- “Jack was looking for the liquor cart.” {Oh really!!!}
Sawyer- “It's a good thing I found it instead then, huh?”
Kate asks if he’s got any more.
Sawyer- “I've got a lot more of everything.  But you ain't got Carte Blanche yet.”
Kate- “Is that a no?”
Sawyer tells Sassafras if she wants to drink, she’s got to play.
Kate- “Play what?”
Sawyer- “I never.”
Kate doesn’t know what that means.  Sawyer calls it a way to get to know each other better.
He gives an example, “I know you've never been to college.”
Kate- “And how do you know that?”
Sawyer- “If you had, you'd have heard about I Never.   It's simple.   You say "I never" and then you finish the sentence.  If it's something you did you drink, if it's something you never did, you don't drink.”
Kate feels that makes absolutely no sense.
Sawyer- “Learn by example. I never kissed a man. Now you drink 'cause you've kissed man. Your turn.“
Kate- “I never implied that I've been to college when I never have.”
Sawyer drinks.
Sawyer- “I never been to Disneyland.”
Kate doesn't drink.
Sawyer- “Ah, that's just sad.”
Kate- “I never wore pink.”
Sawyer drinks, claiming the 80’s. He never voted democrat. Kate doesn't drink.
Kate- “I never voted.”
Sawyer drinks.
Sawyer “'I’ve never been in love.”
Kate “You've never been in love?“
Sawyer- “I ain't drinking, am I?”
Kate drinks.
Kate- “I've never had a one night stand.”
Sawyer drinks.
Kate- “Bottoms up, sailor.”
Sawyer-“I've gotta drink for each one?”
Kate- “Your turn.”
Sawyer- “I've never been married.”
Kate cutely drinks a small sip.
Kate whispers- “It didn't last very long. I never blamed a boar for all my problems.”
Sawyer drinks.
Sawyer –“I never cared about having Carte Blanche because I just wanted to spend some time with the only other person on this island that just don't belong.“
Kate drinks.
Kate- “I never carried a letter around for 20 years because I couldn't get over my baggage.
Sawyer drinks. That question rubbed him.
Sawyer-“I never killed a man.”
They both drink.
Sawyer- “Well, looks like we got something in common, after all.”
The mood has changed. {These are some fucking magical tiny bottles of liquor. They never run out of alcohol!}

A shot rings out.  The little boy is hiding under the bed.   The door opens and the cowboy boot wearing man enters.  All of a sudden the man is now the grunting boar. “It’ll come back around.” {Sounds like a gunshot possibly combined with a Flash Whoosh}
Sawyer jolts awake. Kate asks if he’s OK; he was shaking.
He’s fine. “I was just having a …”
They see the area is a mess. Sawyer can’t believe this. There are hoof marks everywhere. {And white smoke from extinguished campfire.} The boar went through his stuff and ate it, but not Kate's stuff. {Was the boar extra courteous because Kate was there sleeping, that he didn’t grunt, snort, growl or make any noise as not to disturb her?! WTF?!}
Sawyer swears that hog is gonna suffer.
They hear something in the jungle so angry Sawyer grabs his gun.
It’s Locke eating fruit. He waves, “Morning. What happened to your campsite?”
John sits and prepares coffee.  Kate wonders what he’s doing all the way out there.
Locke’s looking for salvage from the crash. He found scraps of metal and a few bags of coffee. He picked up their path about a mile back and thought he’d say howdy.
Sawyer puts his cigarettes back into the cigarette pack. He discovers the boar peed on his shirt. “Took my shirt out of the bag and peed on it. And you say this ain’t personal.”
Kate shares with Locke Sawyer thinks the boar they’re after has a vendetta against him.
Sawyer-“That’s three times it’s got me.”
Kate thinks it’s got his scent, “Maybe it doesn’t like your cologne.”
Locke tells a story over his good coffee. “My sister, Jeanie, died when I was a boy.  Fell off the monkey bars and broke her neck.   And my mother, well, my foster mother, she blamed herself of course.   She thought she wasn't watching close enough.   So, she stopped eating, stopped sleeping. The neighbors started talking, afraid she might do something to herself I guess. {Sips his coffee} Oh, that's good.  Anyway, about six months after Jeanie's funeral this golden retriever comes padding up our driveway walks right into our house sits down on the floor and looks right at my mother there on the couch.  And my mother looks back at the dog.   After about a minute of this, of them both staring at each other like that my mother burst into tears.   Beautiful dog.   No tags, no collarHealthy and sweet.   The dog slept in Jeanie's old room on Jeanie's old bed and stayed with us until my mother passed five years later.  Then, disappeared back to wherever it was she came from in the first place.
Kate- “So, you're saying the dog was your sister?”
Locke- “Well, that would be silly.  But my mother thought it was, thought that Jeanie had come back to tell her the accident wasn't her fault Let her off the hook.
Locke smiles.
{Flash Whoosh}

Daytime:
Sawyer arrives with his gun and heads out to the Shrimp Shack.  Duckett is serving a customer at the window. “Good to go.”
Duckett tells Sawyer- “Only two choices.  Shrimp and mild sauce and shrimp and hot sauce.”
Sawyer just stares at him.
Duckett waits and whistles to get Sawyer’s attention. Sawyer snaps out of it and will go with the hot. Duckett prepares the shrimp and Sawyer prepares his gun. Duckett remarks that he is a fellow American and asks where Sawyer’s from.
Sawyer- “Tennessee.”
Duckett loves the south. He tells Sawyer “For what it’s worth…run a special at the truck here, half price for all American’s
Sawyer is focused but is shaking with the gun in his hand. Duckett reveals his name is Frank. Sawyer seems to soften a moment and reveals his name is James. {Note white smoke from the pan.}
Frank turns to give James his order but James is gone. You hear a car pull away.

Sawyer is downing shots.  He is in a bar; a soccer/football game on the TV.
Sawyer tells the bartender, “Again.”
The bartender-“Are you sure about that, Mate?”
A drunk further down the bar says- “You tell em, cowboy.  These bastards think American’s can’t hold their liquor.”   {He changes his American accent to Australian.}
{All the dialog is important here.} The drunk hates to hold his hand out but claims to have misplaced his wallet.   Sawyer tells the bartender to set em up.  The drunk drinks to him and asks the cowboy his name.
The drunk is Christian Shephard. “To Sawyer. May he find whatever he’s looking for at the bottom of a glass.”
He asks what brings him to Sydney.
Sawyer- “Business.”     {Note the ship wheel behind Christian}
Christian shares that they call Australia down under is because it’s as close you can get to hell without being burned.
Sawyer has the bartender leave the bottles and Christian pulls up a seat next to Sawyer. We find out Christian was the chief of surgery back in the States.
Sawyer- “So we’re in hell, huh?”
Christian-“Don't let the air conditioning fool you, son. You are here, too. You are suffering. But, don't beat yourself up about it.   It's fate.   Some people are just supposed to suffer.  That's why the Red Sox will never win the damn series.   I have a son who's about your age.   He's not like me… he does what's in his heart. He's a good man… maybe a great one.  And right now, he thinks that I hate him.   He thinks I feel betrayed by him.  But what I really feel is gratitude, and pride because of what he did to me.  What he did for me.  Ah, it took more courage than I have.  There's a pay phone over here. I could pick it up and I could call my son. I could tell him about all this. I could tell him that I love him. One simple phone call and I could fix everything.
Christian- “Because I am weak. This…this business that you have will it ease your suffering?
Sawyer-“Yeah.”
Christian-“Then what are you doing here?“
Sawyer- “It ain't that simple.“
Christian- “Of course it is. Unless you want to end up like me, of course it is.“

Back at the Shrimp Shack, it’s night and pouring rain. Duckett is closing up shop for the night and taking out the trash.
Sawyer sits in the car watching him. Sawyer takes the gun out of the glove box and checks the bullets. {Of course there’s bullets! You didn’t friggin use any yet ya dumb ass!}

Charlie is sitting on the beach breaking coconuts open by pounding them on a spear. Sayid tells him he’s developing quite a talent.
Charlie gets that Sayid is there to check up on him.
Sayid states “You killed a man.”
Charlie-“A man who killed one of us. Who kidnapped Claire. Who strung me up and left me for dead. He deserved to die. I'd do it again in a minute. Pardon me, if I'm fresh out of bad feeling.
Sayid- “When I was in the army in Tikrit in Iraq, the man who lived next door was a policeman. One day his car was rigged with a bomb. It killed his wife and three young children instead. They caught the man who did it. I volunteered to be on the firing squad and I did my duty without a single ounce of remorse. Then for no reason, I found myself waking up at night, replaying what I did in my head.”
Charlie- “It looks like you're the one who needs checking up on.”
Sayid- “All I'm saying is that what happened with Ethan will be with you for the rest of your life.”
Charlie softens a bit and asks, “Any suggestions?”
Sayid- “You're not alone. Don't pretend to be.”

Sawyer and Kate walk through the jungle. He takes comfort in knowing someday this is all gonna be a real nice shopping complex; maybe even an auto mall.  Kate discovers a wallow. {Mud hole}
Sawyer- “What the hell’s a wallow?”
Kate- “A boar’s wallow?  It’s his den where he sleeps.”
Sawyer hears the squeals of a baby boar and captures it.
Now Sawyer knows “daddy’s gotta be around here.  Here piggy, piggy, piggy!!”
Sawyer taunts, calling for the “piggy” while Kate is trying to get him to put the baby down; she fears he’s gonna hurt it.
Kate-“Not funny!” and she kicks him. The baby boar runs away.
Kate- “You’re sick!”
Sawyer didn’t hurt it.
Kate walks away and tells him to “Find your own way home.”
Sawyer-“No problem!”
{Flash Whoosh}
In the pouring rain Sawyer marches over to Frank, who is putting out the trash.  Sawyer draws his gun and calls out for “Sawyer!” and shoots Frank.  As Frank is dying, {Hand over his heart and bleeding}
Sawyer kneels down in front of Frank and reads his “Sawyer letter” out loud. “Dear Mr. Sawyer.”
Frank-“Who?”
Sawyer- “You used to go by the name of Sawyer.”
Frank doesn’t know what he’s talking about. “You didn’t have to…tell Hibbs I would have paid.”
Sawyer wonders how he knows Hibbs.
Frank-“You don’t know what you’re doing, do ya?”
Sawyer realizes this is really about this guy borrowing money from Hibbs.
Frank-“I was gonna payIt’ll come back around.”
Sawyer realizes the Con man got conned.

Sawyer walks through the jungle.   He seems lost.
He calls out for Kate and comes face to face with the big ugly ass daddy boar. Sawyer draws his gun and aims at the grunting boar; he’s staring at it.   Kate quietly watches from the sideline.
Sawyer and the boar stare each other down. Sawyer seems to snap out of his stare and soften a bit.
He lowers his gun, sees Kate there and says, “It’s just a boar. Let’s get back to camp.”

Sun and Jin are on the beach with the net.
Claire sits alone, watches Walt play ball with no collar Vincent.
Michael is working on the raft.
Smiling Charlie walks over to Claire and offers to take that walk with her.

Jack is in the jungle cutting up fire wood.   Sawyer walks up behind him, draws his gun, “Stick em up.”
Jack-“You trying to be funny?”
Sawyer smiles, “Yeah. I was fresh out of pies to throw at ya.”   He returns the gun to Jack the sheriff. {Because Jack's the gun guy now}
Jack asked him for the gun two days ago and Sawyer told him to “stick it”.
“I made a deal with your girlfriend.”
{This line is said off camera.  Who said this?  Was it Sawyer? It could be another ADR issue but this kinda felt like Jack heard this line but Sawyer didn’t say it then. I know, I’m crazy. Watch it again.
Jack doesn’t correct the “girlfriend” line, so does he consider Kate his girlfriend here?}
Jack-“What did she give ya? Kate…what did she give ya?”
Sawyer–“Nothing she wasn’t willing to part with.”
Jack-“That’s why the socks will never win the series.”
Sawyer asks him what he just said.
Jack-“I said that’s why the Red Sox will never win the series.”
Sawyer asks what the hell’s that supposed to mean. Jack shares it’s just something his father used to say. “Going through life knowing that people hated him.  Instead of taking responsibility for it, he just put it on fate. Said he was made that way.
Sawyer asks if his daddy…a doctor too.
Jack-“Was. He is dead. Why do you want to know about my father?”
Sawyer- “No reason.”    And walks into the jungle.

Outlaws is a GREAT episode!

WOW!!!  An episode about Sawyer, but we learn about Jack and Christian too.   Sawyer is a hurt lost little boy all grown up.  He's really not a killer {I know he "killed" Duckett and a polar bear} but he's a con man, not a killer.   He is a product of his circumstances.   Things do haunt him, that's true.   He feels he needs see this revenge through but is it for closure?  Maybe. Or it's just his role to play?  Either way he comes face to face with what kind of man he really is.

We learn a few things about Sawyer and Kate when they play "I never". They both killed someone. {Hmmm} Do we have any other outlaws on the "island"?

Christian's drunken conversation with Sawyer is very interesting. He is a "father" who loves his son. But what "things" is he talking about?   Is it really about what we assume it is, or is it something else? If love, pride and forgiveness are important then make the damn phone call and fix it, it's that simple! If it's about something else like a secret he can't reveal to Jack, then that would explain his "weakness" to reach out to him.  There's something he can't tell Jack! {Remember, Christian IS capable of being tender with Jack, we saw it in All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues. YEP!  Christian apologizes to Jack.}

Things to Note...Questions to ask...
* “It’ll come back around.”- Circle-Loop-Karma.
* Con. Grifter.
* Game. Gambling. Deal.
* Mental Health/state.
* Afraid. Scared. Hurt. Alone. Loner.
* Hear. Learn.
* Purchase. Deal. Disclaimers. Refund. Pay. Paid. Business.
* Anagram for Stare is Tears.
* Hurley-“Until he rises from the dead.” What is he trying to say here?! Is Ethan not what we think?!
* Hurley- “I mean he killed a guy. Shot him in the chest four times.” In Homecoming Charlie fired six shots!
*It is important to note that although Charlie looked distant and distracted, he says he'd do it again {Kill Ethan}.
* Jack and Christian don't use the term "World Series" when talking about the Sox. They only say "series."
* "Island" events/dialog/imagery and "Flash" events/dialog/imagery are mirrored and blurred.
* I wonder if there are words or something that triggers “Flashes”.   At this point it seems that sleeping/consciousness and certain events/actions are tied together.

Vocabulary and Research…
* Staring is a prolonged gaze or fixed look. In staring, one object or person is the continual focus of visual interest, for an amount of time. Staring can be interpreted as being either hostile, or the result of intense concentration or affection. Staring behavior can be considered a form of aggression, or an invasion of an individual's privacy
Staring conceptually also implies confronting the inevitable – ‘staring death in the face’, or ‘staring into the abyss’.
- This has been the subject of psychoanalytical studies on the nature of scopophilia.
- The Psychic Staring Effect is concept of 'non-visual detection of staring'.
* Con Man- Confidence tricks exploit typical human qualities like greed, dishonesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, or naive expectation of good faith on the part of the con artist.
The victim is known as the mark, and any accomplices are known as shills.
Con's are AKA bunko, con, flim flam, gaffle, grift, hustle, scam, scheme, or swindle.
* Post Traumatic Stress Disorder-(PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to one or more traumatic events that threatened or caused great physical harm. It is a severe and ongoing emotional reaction to an extreme psychological trauma. This stressor may involve someone's actual death, a threat to the patient's or someone else's life, serious physical injury, an unwanted sexual act, or a threat to physical or psychological integrity, overwhelming psychological defenses.
Also been recognized in the past as railway spine, stress syndrome, shell shock, battle fatigue, traumatic war neurosis, or post-traumatic stress syndrome.
Diagnostic symptoms include re-experiencing original trauma(s), by means of flashbacks or nightmares; avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma; and increased arousal, such as difficulty falling or staying asleep, anger, and hyper vigilance.

Baggage and trying to come to terms with it.  Wallowing in past hurt and mistakes.  Are the Lostie's sick people who are just trying to find their way home?
Facing your own demons can feel very much like being in hell. Are they purposely on this “Island” because they are suffering?
Is the "Island" inadvertently playing therapist or is it outright with intention playing therapist?

Love to all who are "LOST"™

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right. The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. You all know I hate spoilers, and I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Understood? Good. Let the fun begin!I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.

...In Translation.

Let's talk about LOST! ...In Translation.

Jin's EYE.
Jin is standing on the beach quiet and lost in thought and seems to be looking for something. The waves crash.
{Flash Whoosh}

Jin stands silent in front of Mr. Paik while he signs documents.   Paik’s auto manufacturing office is very modern with two TV monitors. {Paik wears a Movado watch. Jin wears a gray/silver suit.}
Mr. Paik asks Jin why he wants to marry his daughter.  Jin explains although he is from a fishing village he has ambitions to open a restaurant and own a hotel.  Paik wonders what Jin’s father thinks of the marriage.
Jin reveals his father is dead. He also tells Paik he would do anything for his daughter; even work for him.
Mr. Paik-“Why would I give my daughter to a man who sells his own dreams so easily?”
Jin-“Because…She is my dream. Sir.”
Mr. Paik stands and shakes Jin’s hand. Jin is happy.
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin still stands on the beach in thought and sees Sun in a blue bikini on the beach.  He runs up to her, wanting her to cover up, “Are you out of your mind?”    He tries to cover her with a dark blue fabric/towel.
Sun is complaining. Everyone on the beach is witnessing them argue. Even Jack remarks “There they go again.”
{Jin has one handcuff on left hand.} All of a sudden Jin literally pulls on Sun and she falls to the ground.  Michael is pissed off and runs over to stop Jin’s treatment of Sun.  Michael actually pushes Jin away and says, “Hey! Get your hands off her!”
Jin is mouthing off to Michael in Korean and Michael just swears to god that if he puts his hands on her one more time… Jin taunts and pokes at Michael.
Sun slaps Michael across the face. Michael is stunned.

At the caves:
Jin stares at the gold Rolex watch and asks Sun what is going on between her and Michael. She says nothing is going on.
{Flash Whoosh}
Sun is being helped into her wedding dress. {Her white dress hangs nearby}

Jin knocks on the door and happily asks for a moment with his wife.
As sun is dressing in the mirror she shares with him that she wishes his father had lived to see this.
Jin-“Where ever he is, I’m sure he’s proud of me.”
Jin holds up the honeymoon for six months because he wants her father to see he’s committed and after his management training is done.   He puts a white flower in her hair and promises her the honeymoon they’ve always dreamed of.  Sun kisses him.

{Flash Whoosh}
Sun heads over to the raft where Michael is working. She apologizes, but explains that when she slapped him she was protecting him from Jin. Apparently Jin is capable of some intense shit.
Michael- “It’s not my problem…It’s yours.”

Jin is on Hurley’s golf course hitting some black rocks.  Hurley walks over and tells him he should try sea urchin, “They got more ping.”
Hurley goes on to chat with Jin in English while Jin continues swinging at the rocks.   Hurley suggests Jin may want to relax with some fishing after that whole husband and wife thing.
Although Hurley is “trying”, Jin blows him off.
Hurley-“Okay. You wanna be an outsider it’s your business.” And takes his {Bamboo} fishing poles and walks away. You can see Jin is troubled.

Shannon ties a perfect Bowline knot so well that impressed Sayid asks if she has a past in the Navy she neglected to tell him about.   Shannon learned by dating guys with sailboats. They play the “flirt” game to see what happens.

Walt brings his father {Michael} some wires to the raft. {Vincent has no collar}
Michael feels Walt is gonna love New York City, “No city like it”.
He really wants to show him the buildings; the architecture. He also tells Walt about the oldest skyscraper in the city; the 1902 flat iron building. That one building inspired Michael to start drawing and designing things.
Michael is excited about it but Walt doesn’t look very interested.
Walt is interested in throwing the ball to Vincent.

Jack walks over and notes Michael’s progress with the raft.  Michael runs down the list of items used in this project: Bamboo for the decking, a piece of the fuselage for the cabin and some storage bins. Jack {Key around neck} gives Michael the heads up on all the talk going on “about who’s going on this thing with you.”
Michael- “It’s not the Queen Mary. I only got room for four people. There’s one open spot.”
Jack wonders who took the other one. Sawyer bought himself a ticket this little tub and the fare was steep. Sawyer tosses cable for Mike to use on constructing the raft.

At night in the tent Kate asks Sun how much longer she is going to let him treat her this way. The tent is glowing with light from campfires around it. Sun shows loyalty to her husband but still refuses to tell him she speaks English. Kate is just trying to understand. Sun explains he wasn’t always like this; he used to be tender and then he was different.
Kate-“What changed him?”
All of a sudden the shadows of people running past the tent is seen.
The raft is on fire!   We get a close-up of Locke, watching.
The entire beach camp works hard to put out the vicious fire. {Did that fire just friggin' growl?!!}

Michael is very upset to see his work go up in flames. Walt looks scared.
Michael turns to Sun and demands to know “Where the hell is he?!”
Sun replies in Korean and Jack says, “She doesn’t understand, man.”
Kate wants Michael to back off but he won’t.
Michael-“Her husband did this and she knows it! {He asks Sun} You trying to protect him now? Is that it?”
Kate is Sun’s alibi. Walt tries to put out the fire but Mike holds him back. Sun runs off and Michael threatens to break Jin’s damn neck.
Rational Jack remarks they don’t know that Jin did this.
Michael-“Then who did, Jack?!”

At the caves Jin is rummaging through the medical supplies. Sun sees that Jin's hand is burned. Sun assumes Jin burned the raft and wonders how can he do that when Michael is trying to get them “off this island”.
Jin is very jealous of Michael.
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin runs up the stairs to Paik’s office.
Jin is taking full responsibility for what happened; claiming the machinery is old. Mr. Paik didn’t call Jin up to reprimand him; he is promoting him. “You will be my new special assistant.”
Jin’s first task
is to go to the home of Byung Han, the secretary for environmental safety and deliver a message on behalf of displeased Paik.

Three knocks on the door:
Jin-Soo-Kwon introduces himself to the man and is invited in. Han is very afraid. There is a young girl sitting on the couch petting her dog. {TV in the background shows Hurley is on it. There is a Foo dog.} Han doesn’t want the message delivered in front of his daughter.  Jin informs him Paik is displeased with him. The man is relieved, and apologizes by giving Jin the little girls championship breed dog; it is incredibly valuable.
Jin seems pleased.

At the beach Boone reveals to Sayid that Shannon likes older men who can take care of her.  He thinks in this place Sayid fits the bill.  He also says “When she gets what she needs she’ll move on. When she does…don’t take it personally, man.”  {Campfires and torches are a blaze all over the place. Boone is wearing the shirt/sleeveless he worn in Locke’s dream.}
Sayid wasn’t asking for Boone’s permission in pursuing a relationship with Shannon.

Its daylight and Jin is sleepingBirds’ wings flapping wake him up.  He kneels by the stream, looks around and puts his hands in the running water. Out of nowhere pissed off Sawyer appears, “Messed up my ride, Chief!” and kicks him in the face.

Sayid helps capable Shannon tie up plastic for a tent. Sayid feels she would be alright building it on her own. Sayid looks troubled and Shannon see this. Sayid suggests she should find another friend to help her with her shelter.
Shannon realizes he’s been talking to her brother and runs off.

In the jungle Shannon comes upon Locke who is having a rat dinner. {There are two additional rats hanging from the tree.} Shannon is looking for Boone but Locke hasn’t seen him.
Shannon gives Locke a message for Boone, “Tell him to keep his stupid mouth shut. And if he has something to say he can leave Sayid out of it and come say it to my face.”
Locke wonders if he should be writing this down.
Shannon wants Boone to stay out of her business.

Locke-“Do you like him?”
Shannon-“What?"
Locke-“Sayid?”
Locke feels if she does like him, “What’s it got to do with your brother? You’re a grown woman. Sure, you can yell at Boone till you’re blue in the face, all you’re doing is giving him what he wants.”
Shannon–“Yeah what’s that?”
Locke-“Your attention. Everyone gets a new life on this island, Shannon. Maybe it's time to start yours."

Sawyer has Jin, hands tied behind his back and leashed.   He’s taunting him about being scared; he thinks Jin understands being “scared”, and if he aint, he’s gonna be. {The camera closes in a bit on Sawyer’s mouth} “The folks down at the beach might have been doctors and accountants a month ago…but its Lord of the Flies time now.” as he threatens Jin with a knife.   Jin just stares him down.
{Flash Whoosh}

Sun playfully has Jin’s eyes covered with her hands. She directs him to the table where she presents him with a romantic feast.  Mr. Paik calls Jin’s cell phone, interrupting them. Jin ignores the call; business can't wait. Mr. Paik calls the house phone.

Pissed off Mr. Paik is questioning Jin about why his factory is closed. He feels he’s losing millions because Jin is too incompetent to deliver a simple message.   Paik has Jin drive with his associate back to Han {Dressed in white and black.} to see how to deliver a message.

In the car in the backseat, the associate readies himself for the message delivery; with rubber gloves and gun with silencer.  He wants Jin to keep the engine running, “I will be inside less than two minutes. When I return you will not drive faster than the speed limit.  You will take this car to the riverbank eight kilometers away. Do you understand?”
Jin and the hit man arrive at the house. Jin goes in without the associate and is completely in “thug” mode. He does indeed deliver a violent message and tells Han the factory will open tomorrow.
Jin whispers to him, “I just saved your life.”    Jin looks over and sees the upset little girl. The associate watches from the sideline.

Jin returns home to Sun all bloody. {Note the dog is bigger} At first Sun wonders if he’s hurt, but realizes it’s not his blood.   Jin explains he was working.  Sun demands answers about what he does and ends up slapping Jin in the face after things get physical.
Jin-“I do whatever your father tells me. I do it for us.”
Sun backs out of the room.  Jin continues to wash the blood off his hands.
Jin is very upset, looks at himself in the mirror and cries.
{Flash Whoosh}
Sawyer throws Jin down into the sand.  Michael comes running over to Jin about burning his raft. Michael gets intercepted by Hurley and Jack. {Charlie is wearing his black hoodie because it must be very cold on the island!}

Everyone starts arguing about it. Jin is listening. He says something in Korean. Michael asks what he said.
Jin repeats himself, almost as if he’s purposely taunting Michael.
Michael goes after him and punches Jin in the face.
Walt is stunned at the chaos and fighting.
Sun screams in English, “Stop it! Leave him alone.” {Why didn't Michael ever ask Sun in private if he burned the raft?}
Jin is now stunned.
Sun-“He didn’t burn your raft.”
There is shock when the reveal of Sun’s ability to speak English.
Jack-“You understood us? All this time? Why didn’t you say anything?”
Crying Sun explains to Michael that his raft was already on fire when Jin arrived. He burned his hands trying to put it out.
Michael never looks at Jin but asks, “Then why did he run?”
Sun translates the question to Jin but Jin doesn’t reply.
Mike-“That’s what I thought.”
Sun feels her husband is many things, but he is not a liar.
Sawyer won’t listen to "her/Betty" lecture because she obviously lied to old man, Jin about her ability to speak English. “How do we know she’s not covering for him?”
Locke interjects-“Because she isn’t.”
Locke knows Jin and Mike have personal issues but doesn’t feel he would ruin their best chance of getting off the island.
Locke-“Okay, it's personal, but why take it out on our best chance of getting off the Island? Why would any one of us block an attempt to get home? We’re so intent on pointing the finger at one another that we’re ignoring the simple undeniable truth that the problem isn’t here it’s there! They’ve attacked us, sabotaged us, abducted us, murdered us! Maybe it’s time we stop blaming us and started worrying about them!...We're not the only people on this island and we all know it!" Locke walks away.

Sun reiterates to Michael “He did not do it.”   Jin walks away from Sun.

Vincent, without a collar, sniffs around the burned raft.   Michael is upset because he can’t salvage a thing. {Pontoons, decking, twine} He has a bit of a temper tantrum.
Michael apologizes to Walt. “Look. We all have setbacks. I mean god knows, man. It’s just life. We’ll start over.”
Michael wants to build a better raft. {Goody!} Walt will help.

Sun tries to talk to Jin. He has chosen to deal with her by packing his stuff.  Sun asks why he just didn’t admit to her he didn’t burn the raft. “Why won’t you speak to me, Jin? What have I done to deserve this?! When did we stop talking?”
Jin walks away from her and she yells out in English “I was going to leave you!”
Jin stops and turns to listen.
Sun-“I was going to get away. But you made me change my mind. You made me think that you still loved me!”   Then she switches to Korean- “I want go back to the beginning. Can’t we…just start all over?”
{Flash Whoosh}
Handsome Jin arrives at a tiny fishing dock.   He approaches an older man who is stunned to see him. Jin apologizes to his father. “Please forgive me. I was…ashamed of you.”
Jin cries and papa hugs him.
Jin helps his father move a crate/box and he tells him of his love for his beautiful, intelligent, hardheaded wife Sun and his work for Mr. Paik.   Jin feels that’s the reason they don’t talk anymore.  He can’t tell her about her father.
Jin-“In a good world she would hate him, not me.
Jin's father feels it is a good world.
Jin-“You don’t know what I’ve done.”
Father feels as his son it doesn’t matter what he’s done.
Jin-“I wish I could start over.”
Father feels there are no more important responsibilities than his wife.   Father advises to do this last delivery of watches for Mr. Paik to Sydney and Los Angeles, and walk away. “Don’t come back. Go to go to America...save your marriage.”
{Flash Whoosh}
Jin is standing in the cave starring at Sun.
Jin-“It’s too late.”, and walks away.

At night near a campfire, Shannon approaches Sayid and kisses him. Sayid wonders what that was for.
Shannon-“Everyone gets a new life on this island. I’d like to start now.”
Walt is playing with the backgammon game. (Vincent is there)
Locke asks, “Got yourself an opponent?”
Walt tells him Hurley owes him $83,000 and told him he’d give him a chance to win it back.
Locke-“It’s been a while since you and I played.” {Really?! How long?}
Locke sits down opposite Walt and pets Vincent. Locke doesn’t have $83,000.
Locke asks where his pop is and Walt asks if Locke has a dad and if he's cool.  {Walt is not allowed to leave the caves after dark.} {Michael is at the beach.}
Locke says everyone’s got a dad and no, his pop isn’t cool.   They play backgammon and Walt seems pretty good at it.
Locke –“Why did you burn the raft, Walt? Don't worry, I'm not going to tell. You must've had a really good reason.
Walt says he doesn't want to move anymore, "I’ve been moving places my whole life. I like it here!"
Locke-"I like it here too."

Michael is on the beach rummaging through the raft wreckage. Jin strolls over with a bundle of bamboo, turns to Michael and says, “Boat”. Apparently the boys will play nice now.
Hurley walks by them with his headphones on for his CD player. The song Delicate plays.
Shannon and Sayid are hanging out together; eating.
Sun walks down to the beach in her blue bikini and lets her dark blue towel fall away.   She steps into the water.
Hurley watches Charlie brings Claire a drink.
The CD player batteries die.
Hurley-“Son of a bitch.” and removes his headphones. {How long has he been able to use that CD player? How long do those damn batteries last? Are the super duper power batteries? Is there a fucking time discrepancy?!!!}

...In Translation is a GREAT episode!  We get a peek into both Sun and Jin's "make up".   I find that interesting in itself.

Vocabulary and Research...
*  Ping: A computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a latency test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. The "echo response" is sometimes called a pong. Ping measures the round trip time and records any packet loss, and prints when finished a statistical summary of the echo response packets received.
* PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost)
* Ping in video gaming: the network latency seen between a game player's computer and the game server (or another player).
*Ping: an ability in the trading card game Magic: The Gathering.
*Ping (golf) a brand of golf club.
*Ping: a pulse of sound in active sonar.

This episode shows us how Jin changes from being the goodhearted simple man to a man of violence.   But just like Sawyer, he became a product of his circumstances and necessity.    I believe he truly loves Sun and she loves him.   The dominance that her powerful father has over everyone is very dangerous.    Jin is hurt that Sun kept her speaking English a secret.  Even though it appears that Jin doesn't speak or understand English, and even in an upcoming episode he says he doesn't, I'm not completely sold on that being the truth.   Too many times it appears they all do verbally communicate to and with Jin.
It seems as if these people have a problem with communicating their feelings with the people closest to them.  They seem to keep emotions, hurt and pain, locked deep inside.

There is nothing lost in translation with this episodes' meaning...
"Can't we just go back to the beginning?...Start over?"
And indeed you shall!    Literally!

Understood? Good. Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance. It will get very exciting as we progress into the story.
