Deus Ex Machina

Let's talk about LOST! Deus Ex Machina.
Locke is working in a "super center".   He's setting up the game “Mouse Trap” in the TOY ZONE.
John’s name tag on his blue vest introduces him to the customers as the Assistant Manager.
A little boy walks up to him and asks “What’s that?”
Locke tells the boy it's his favorite game, one he used to play with his brother. The little boy asks how you play.
Locke explains to the boy “You start with all these parts off the board and then one by one you build the trap. Shoe, bucket, tub. Piece by piece it all comes together. And then you wait till your opponent lands here on the ol Cheese Wheel, and then if you set it up just right you spring the trap.”
John notes the older red haired woman in the fur coat watching them. John lets the boy have a turn, “Go ahead kiddo.”

The silver ball rolls down the slide of the trap.
John asks the lady if he can help her.  She’d like to know where the footballs are.
John- “Aisle 8 for regulation, Aisle 15 for Nerf.”
She thanks him but looks at him longingly as she backs away. {Throughout we can hear over the PA video game pickup extension 354, carryout on checkout 2.}

We see the silver ball of the game trigger the trap, ultimately trapping the blue mouse.

At the hatch Locke sweeps away dirt from its window.
Boone- “You want my opinion.”
John tells Boone “You gotta have some faith. All we gotta do is break the glass and then we’re in. Trebuchet delivers a half a ton of force.”

Boone wonders why they call it a Trebuchet when it looks like a catapult.
Locke-"They call it a trebuchet, Boone, because it’s a trebuchet.”
Boone doesn’t get Locke, “One minute you're quoting Nietzsche, now all of the sudden you're an engineer. I don't think I can spell Trebuchet.”
Locke is sure to note there’s a “T” on the end.

{Boone may not know how to spell Trebuchet but he knows who Nietzsche is. Interesting. }
They work hard on putting the Trebuchet together. Boone doesn’t understand, they've been there every day for two weeks and Locke doesn’t talk about himself.  “Everybody’s got a story".”
Locke feels his story would bore Boone.
They get everything into position and Locke counts down, “3...2...1...”
He lets go of the rope, and although the Trebuchet makes perfect contact with its mark it doesn’t break the glass at all.  The Trebuchet literally falls apart.
John touches the glass, he is very upset and he starts to yell and stomp on the little window, “This was supposed to work. This was supposed to work!”
Boone calls out to John, “Your leg, man.”
A piece of metal is lodged in his right leg;  Locke never felt it go in.  John pulls the metal out, again not even feeling it.  He realizes he's losing feeling in his legs but is puzzled by this. He says he's fine.

At night by campfire John wraps his wounded leg.  He takes a safety pin and pokes at both legs.  He is very upset at the loss of feeling.  John even takes a burning stick out of the fire and uses the hot end to run the test again. He’s stunned when he feels nothing.

Daylight:
Locke in a white tee shirt chops wood with a piece of metal. Boone asks him why the Trebuchet didn’t work.
The Trebuchet didn’t work because it wasn’t strong enough.
Boone doesn’t think the glass is gonna break.
Annoyed Locke feels everything breaks if you apply the right force.
Boone-“So we’re just gonna build another one of your inventions hope it works this time?”
Determined pissed off Locke says “That’s right.”
But what if it doesn’t?
Locke tells Boone,“Then the Island will tell us what to do.”
Boone wonders what he just said.
Locke changes the subject by suggestion they get back there and salvage those pieces.  Locke is having trouble standing and walks slowly.  He tells Boone he’s fine and carries the large tree limb away.
In a parking lot, John takes a flier for a lost dog off the windshield of his red VW beetle.  He sees that the red haired woman has been watching, following him.  She tries to run off knowing she’s been spotted.  As John hurries after her he gets knocked down by a tan car backing out of a parking spot. He’s fine.
John gets up, spots the fleeing woman and stops her, “Why are you following me? Who are you?
She apologizes and then blurts out, “I’m your mother.”

Sitting in a diner, the woman is focused on shoveling large amounts of sugar in to her coffee cup that apparently contains tea.   John doesn’t know why she would think he’s her son or how she found him, but the woman cuts him off and asks, “You’re adopted aren’t you?”
John-“No. No. I was raised in a foster home. Not, well, several foster homes actually.”
He wonders what she wants from him.
Mom-“I want to tell you that you’re special.   Very special. You are part of a design. You do realize that, don’t you? That our meeting, me finding you...this is a sign of things to come. Great things.” {Who is this nut?}
John asks if his father is still alive.
Mom-“Still alive? Oh, John...Don’t you understand?...You don’t have a father. You were immaculately conceived.”
It pleases her to tell John this, but he is puzzled. {That was a fantastic conversation, indeed!}

Sawyer asks Sun, who is working in her garden, which leaf is the right one.  Sun tells him which one; which happens to be the one he’s using, “But nothin’s happening.”
Sun apologizes that it’s not helping.  Kate just happens by carrying a sac of bottles for water and asks “What’s not happening?”
Sawyer won’t reveal anything, he only compliments Sun on the garden and leaves.  Sun confesses to Kate that Sawyer has headaches and aspirin didn’t help.

In the cave Jack shaves {Mirror}.
Kate asks Jack, “Say you’re having bad headaches...everyday...”
It’s not Kate they’re talking about, its Sawyer.  She thinks there may be something really wrong with him.
Jack asks what Sawyer thinks.
Concerned Kate tells him he thinks he’s fine but she feels he could be playing it down.

Jack would love nothing more than to check the guy out and make sure he’s OK, “But we both know all I’m gonna get for my trouble is a snappy one liner.  And if I’m real lucky a brand new nickname. I’m just over it.”

John is focused on rebuilding the Trebuchet.
Boone arrives and John announces, “You’re late!”
Boone nonchalantly asks, “Late for what?”
Apparently Boone is "Late for work".
Boone feels he's done working, this is useless, “You can’t open that thing up, you say you can but you can’t.”
John-“Don’t tell me what I can’t do.”
Boone-“Don’t you get it?  It’s a dead endYou’re not getting in.” {Get in where, really?}
John feels that’s impossible, “We didn’t find this by accident. We’re supposed to...”
Boone walks over and stands on top of the hatch, “Oh we’re supposed to. We’re supposed to find this, right? We’re supposed to open it, right? Then tell me something, John. If we’re supposed to open it, then why the hell haven’t we opened it yet?”
John- “The Island will send us a sign.”
Boone mocks him, “The Island will send us a sign.”
John feels all that’s happening now is "Our faith is being tested, our commitment. But we will open it. The Island will show us how!"
Boone asks what kind of a sign will the Island send them.   The sound of a sputtering engine is heard.  John sees a small plane fly over, trailing black smoke, and then crash into the jungle.  John points and asks Boone if he saw that.  Boone is staring up; Glitchy flashes of him bloody... John hears glass break... he looks around sees his mother in a fur coat pointing up...Bloody Boone repeats over and over "Theresa falls up the stairs, Theresa falls down the stairs."... There's a lot of static and then a scream can be in the background {sounds like someone screams “John!’}...  John’s eyes are very green.... John's in a wheelchair... Boone is repeating his Theresa mantra although it is becoming distorted.... As John falls from the wheelchair he yells  No. No. Please! Don't take it back!"
Locke jolts awake and thinks.
At the beach camp Locke wakes up Boone.
Boone-“What time is it?”
Locke tells him its morning.
OK, Boone’s up.
Locke just shuffles Boone along.

“Emily Annabeth Locke. In 10,000 words or less.”  {Flash whoosh}
Locke sitting in the break room of his place of work with a hired private investigator. {There's a sign on the wall that says ‘Safety is no accident’, a foosball table, lockers, hanger, 2 vending machines, 2 refrigerators, 2 microwave ovens.}
The investigator gives John a yellow envelope with Intel on Emily. The investigator lifted some hairs from her car and matched them with John’s DNA samples; confirming it’s his mother.
It’s 99% certain.

Locke learns that Emily was institutionalized a few times not for anything criminal or violent, but for a type of schizophrenia. {At Santa Rosa} Apparently if she stays on her meds she’s OK.

{Click those photos!}
Important Details:
Driver’s license (copy) expiration date is 3/20/94.

The Santa Rosa admission papers show she is divorced.
SS# 584-243-15.
She had an Aunt Bea, three Doctors- D. Madison, C. Silva and R. Munos. She filled her prescriptions at SKADDEN PHARMACY.

John seems more interested in his father’s Intel.
The investigator cautiously gives him the information contained in a RED FILE FOLDER. {Yes it is!!} The investigator feels since the mother sought him out “She’s fair game. But this guy...maybe he don’t even know you exist. And I’ve done this enough times to know this stuff isn’t meant to be, even though it may feel that way.”
He feels this probably won’t have a happy ending.
John wants the Red File Folder.
The investigator slides the red folder over to John.
John drives his red VW beetle up to the gate where the guard asks, “Your name is?”
John-”John. John Locke. I’m Anthony Cooper’s son.”  {Plate#2ABM487}.
The guard informs John Mr. Cooper doesn’t have a son.   John sees the camera observing him and reassures the guard he doesn’t want anything from Anthony. “My mother is Emily Locke. Please.”
The guard looks intrigued, picks up the bat phone and tells Mr. Cooper, “I’ve got John Locke here. He says he’s your son.”
John again notes the camera is watching.
The guard tells him he can go on in.

Inside the trophy room of Anthony’s house John looks at all the photos of his world traveled adventurous father. {White water rafting, hunting, scuba diving.} Anthony enters confessing this is awkward.

Anthony- “Somethin' tells me I’m gonna want a drink for this.
Anthony prepares two scotch drinks and asks,“So who found who?”
John shares Emily found him.
Anthony asks "How did she look?" {Read that again.}
John-“Fine, I guess.”
Anthony also wants to know if she said anything about him.
John reveals Emily said he didn’t have a father; that he was immaculately conceived.
Anthony laughs- "I guess that makes me god, huh?”
He claims he didn’t even know John existed until a year after he was born {Interesting hmmm!?!?}
Emily said she wasn't going to have the baby at all. Then Emily "drops off the face of the planet when she turns up again asking me for money, telling me she put you up for adoption. You gonna drink that or what?" {Oh really}
John sips. Anthony inquires about John having a family of his own.
John- “No sir.”
Anthony-”Me neither.”
Although he’s tried it a couple of times, “Didn’t take. Do you hunt?...You’re not one of those animal rights nut jobs, are ya?”
John admits he is not.
Anthony offers a hunting trip for this Sunday.   John would like that very much. They raise their glasses in a ‘toasting’ gesture.
{Flash Whoosh}
“I had a dream last night.”
Locke in his white tee shirt is talking to Boone. “I asked for a sign. And then I saw a plane crash, a... a... a... Beech craft, right out there. (He points.) It was a dream but...it was the most real thing I’ve ever experienced. I know where to go now.”

He knows where to go to find what we need to open this bastard up. {Him or the hatch?}
Boone asks if John’s been using that wacky paste stuff that made me see my sister get eaten. {Oh, you mean the stuff that made you ultimately 'see' so you could feel relief.}
John says no.
Boone- “Cause John, I gotta tell ya...signs and dreams and...”
John cuts him off asking who Theresa is; he tells Boone he said Theresa falls up the stairs, Theresa falls down the stairs in the dream.
Boone asks how he would know about that.
John doesn’t know, “But we’re supposed to go to this place. We’re supposed to find that plane. Will you come with me?”
Boone will.

Michael and Jin {One cuff on} work on building the raft.
Jack’s impressed their project is coming together fast.
Michael- “The fire wasn’t a total loss. We learned a few things from building the first one. Which is saving us from trial and error. Now it’s just...”
He looks at Jin and says to Jack, “Trial.”

Jin communicates with Michael in Korean and Michael answers him, Yeah, Yeah, I know…now, now now. {He understands him}
Jack remarks on him picking up on a little Korean.
Michael feels he’s pretty sure he knows how to say “Faster and “Idiot”.
Jack {Key around neck}sees Sawyer laying against a tree few yards away; putting a blue wet cloth on his head.
Jack walks up to Sawyer, “I hear you’re having trouble with your head.”
Sawyer thinks “she’s” got him making house calls now.
Jack notices Sawyer is sensitive to the light too.
Actually Sawyer is sensitive to Jack. Lol!
Realizing this won’t go anywhere Jack says to him, “We’ll see ya.”
Sawyer calls for the Doc and asks if the sensitivity to the light is bad.
That depends on what’s causing his headaches.
Sawyer- “It’s not like it’s a tumor or something...”
Concerned Jack asks what makes him think it’s a tumor.
Sawyer says he doesn’t.
Jack starts to leave again when Sawyer blurts out “My uncle.”
Sawyer confesses his uncle died of a brain tumor and wonders if that runs in the family. Jack asks what type of tumor was it. {He just said brain tumor.} Smart ass Sawyer answers, the type that kills ya.
Jack- “Do you smell anything funny? Brain tumors bring on phantom smells maybe like something burning.”
Sawyer says it’s just headaches.
Jack’s sure he’s fine but if Sawyer’s worried there’s a couple of tests he can do. Sawyer thinks that sounds fun but his insurance ran out.
Jack finds that amusing.
Sawyer runs the “smell for something burning test” after Jack walks away.

John and Boone trek through the jungle.
Boone wonders if he mentioned Theresa’s name one day out at the hatch, “Maybe I was talking to myself.”
John- “Maybe. {Takes out a compass. Didn’t he give the compass to Sayid in 'Hearts and Minds' because he didn't need it?} But you didn’t.”

Boone tries to rationalize John’s dream by suggesting he dreamed of a plane crash because of the fact they were... John falls down!
Boone wants to help John up but John insists he’s fine.
Boone asks what’s wrong with John’s leg. Something catches John’s attention; he finds black {rosary} beads. He immediately hands them over to Boone.  Boone wonders if they came from someone at camp; John does not.  John yanks a decayed body of a priest out of the trees; that’s where it came from. {Luv the millipede crawling out of the eye socket.}

John pulls up to the guard house; the gate is already opening.
John stops to say good morning to Eddie the guard.
Evidently John and Anthony have been bird hunting a few times

John walks up to a partially open door and sees Anthony receiving Dialysis. John wasn’t supposed to be the till 12.  John thought Anthony said 11.
Anthony reveals his kidney’s failing and needs a transplant; he’s on the donor list, “But I’m an old man and it’s a long list.”

John is concerned but Anthony says he didn’t tell John so it wouldn’t spoil what’s going to be a fantastic day. They’ll go have a nice lunch and shoot some birds. {OK, then.}
{Flash Whoosh}

Boone announces, “He’s a Priest.” {W/gold tooth}
John removes the pen from the dead dude’s pocket.
Boone is looking through a pocket size book.
John is wearing the  beads around his left wrist.

 Wondering how long the priest has been dead, John tells Boone normally clothing would completely decompose within in two years but this is high quality polyester; could be two years, could be ten. The pen’s true identity is a knife. {Is there high quality polyester? Lol}
John notes the gold teeth, “Obviously well off.” And John reveals a wad of Nigerian Naira. {How does he know that? Smart.}
Boone- “What is a Nigerian priest doing on an island in the South Pacific?”
John takes a gun out of the priest’s pocket, “I’m not so sure he’s a priest.”
Sawyer tries to remedy his headache/eyes but the crashing waves seem to play a part in his discomfort. The pounding and hammering noises are amplified and pissing Sawyer off. He yells at them to keep it down.
Kate comes over and commands him to get up. She physically moves him to go see Jack.
Aggravated Sawyer, “Do I get a lollipop?”
Jack uses the ol “Eyes follow the pen test” and asks Sawyer when the headaches started. Sawyer’s eyes do indeed follow the pen.   The headaches started a few days ago; a week maybe.
Jack-“Do you have them when you wake up in the morning?”
These usually hit Sawyer in the middle of the day.
Jack continues on with the pen test; to check to see if his pupils respond to changing stimuli.
Sawyer is getting worried with Jack in Doctor mode and a nod he gave.   Kate tells Sawyer to let Jack do his thing.
Jack snaps his fingers near Sawyers ear; this bothered Sawyer.
Jack goes on with Doctor questions and note taking. “Have you ever had a blood transfusion?...Taken pills for Malaria?...Have you ever had sex with a prostitute?”
Nope, Nope and Yes.
Apparently Sawyer’s also contracted a lovely STD.
Jack’s mock inquiry asking about his last outbreak pisses Sawyer off. This amuses Kate and Jack.
Jack’s diagnosis is Sawyer needs glasses.

In the jungle John’s legs are freezing/stiffing up causing him difficulty walking.  He can barely walk but feels he’s fine. “It’s the wound from the shrapnel.”
Boone notes that that injury is to his right leg but asks what’s wrong with his left.
John, insisting he is fine, falls down and this warrants Boone to suggest they go back.
John again feels he’s fine.
Boone-“No you’re not. Let me get you back to Jack!”
John doesn’t think Jack would know the first thing about what’s wrong with him. {Hmmm. Why? Is Jack not a real Doctor? Is Jack wrong about Sawyer’s diagnosis?}  John can’t get up and he won’t let Boone help him.
Boone adamantly wants to go back and asks, “What’s wrong with you. Are you crazy?"
John confesses to him that he was paralyzed and in a wheelchair for four years, “The plane, our plane, I was in that chair when we took off but not after we crashed.”
Boone-“Why were you in a wheelchair?”
John- “It doesn’t matter anymore. This Island, it changed me. It made me whole. Now it’s trying to take it back and I don’t know why. But it wants me to follow what I saw... I know it sounds crazy, four weeks ago I wouldn’t have believed it myself, but you and I are here for a reason. There’s something that we were meant to find. Something that’s gonna help us get into the hatch, I know it. But we gotta keep going.”
Boone agrees, “Can you move your legs?”
John nods yes, “Just help me up son.”
Boone literally pulls him up!
{Flash Whoosh}
Anthony and John are bird hunting.
Anthony-“These doves fly a lot faster than you think. So you gotta really lead them. You have to drop it and I'll cover you."
John shoots at a flying bird, “Got um.” {John wears camo pants}
Dad’s proud of his son’s good shot.
John gathers up the shell casing.  Beret wearing Anthony feels John’s mother may be a little crazy but at least she brought them together.    He’s glad it happened now while they still have time, “Let’s find your bird.”
{Flash Whoosh}
Boone helps crippling Locke through the jungle.    He reveals to John that Theresa was his nanny.   His mother wasn’t around much and he needed someone to take it out on. “My bedroom was at the top of this huge flight of stairs and I would sit in bed all day calling her over the intercom.  One day she took a bad step, broke her neck. I was 6.” {Spoiled brat!}
John sees something over Boone’s shoulder; he is pleased.   John points up at the plane perched above.   As best as John can tell this is the plane he saw.   It doesn’t matter how long it’s been there what’s important is that they found it; what’s important is what’s inside it.
Boone will have to climb up there for them to find out what’s inside.
{Flash Whoosh}
Anthony and John join hands from their hospital beds. John doesn’t have to change his mind, “They just shaved my back.”
Anthony is so thankful for John. Compassionate John feels this was meant to be. The nurses come in with the gurney for Anthony.
Anthony tells John, “See you on the other side, son.”{Hey! That’s what I always say on LOST night!}
{Flash Whoosh}
Sawyer sits reading A Wrinkle in Time.
Jack brings over a shoe box of glasses.    Sawyer’s been reading a lot since they “came” to the Island.  Jack breaks the news in dramatic fashion that Sawyer’s got Hyperopia.
He’s farsighted. It can develop later in life, especially when you add any strain to the eyes; like with reading.
Jack tests a few pairs of glasses on him and holds the book up in front of him to see what works.
Sawyer-“Blurry.”
Another pair...
Jack-”Better or worse?”
Worse.
Sawyer doesn’t like the look of the glasses and Jack tells him, “It’s not a fashion show.”
Sayid gently separates two pairs of glasses and welds the proper half of each set to make Sawyer one new pair.
Sayid’s work takes place over maps and diagrams.
Hurley comments to Sawyer in his new accessory, “Dude, looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter.”
Boone climbs up the roots to the perched plane.
Encouraging John watches Boone struggle a bit to climb, “Hang on.” {Did you hear the dove coo?}
Boone looks in the window of the plane. He pulls the door off and drops it to the ground.
Inside he finds maps(focused in on Nigeria and Sahara). The plane starts to teeter and a decayed body falls on him.
Nervous John calls up to Boone; Boone is fine.
John is getting anxious; he struggles but stands, “Boone, what do you see?”
Boone is mad, “You wanna know what’s in your damn plane, Locke? Here’s your sign!”
Boone tosses a Virgin Mary statue out the window exposing the heroin. {There is the glass breaking sound we heard earlier in the vision}
“They’re Drug smugglers, Locke...heroin! That’s all that’s in here!”
Disappointed John doesn’t understand.
Boone discovers a radio. He turns it on to static. The plane teeters again.
John calls for Boone to get out, “There’s no time! Get out now!”
Boone calls a Mayday over the radio. We hear another voice on the other end, “Someone there? Repeat a transmission, please.”
Boone- “Hello! Hello! We’re survivors of the crash of Oceanic flight 8 1 5, please copy!”
The voice on the other end says something to the effect of, “...survivors of Oceanic 8 1 5.” {“there were no”...?}
The plane drops/falls, crashing down to the ground, ultimately landing upside down/topside.
Locke manages to get inside the plane to badly hurt, bloody Boone.
Locke physically carries Boone. {Damn! Terry O’Quinn is fucking strong!!!! YEAH!}
Inside the cave Jack opens a black shoe box that’s nestled inside a black suitcase.  Kate thanks Jack for helping Sawyer, “I know it’s probably the last thing you wanted to do.” {Why?}
Jack admits he didn’t do it for him.
Locke calls out for Jack’s help.  Locke enters carrying Boone.
John says there was an accident that Boone fell off a cliff out near the place they were hunting. {Lie}
Boone’s chest is torn up.
Jack recruits Kate’s help to gather things he needs to staunch the bleeding.
Jack wants John to tell him exactly what happened. All of a sudden John isn’t there!
John was standing right there then he wasn't!
Jack is yelling, “Locke! Locke!”
John awakens from the surgery.
He looks over to see Anthony isn’t in his bed.   A pearl wearing nurse appears and takes his pulse, “I think what you did was so kind.”
She informs John that she didn’t know Mr. Cooper was his father and that he checked out this afternoon. He went home, has private care and didn’t leave John any message. She’s going to get him some juice.
John is confused and in a lot of pain.
It was his idea”, Emily says standing in the doorway.
She apologizes to John explaining she needed some money, “He’s always been good that way. Your father’s always been generous."
John-"You told me I didn't have a father."
Emily-"Well, he said that was the only way you would give it to him. It had to be your idea. He told me where to find you. He asked me to go see you. I wanted to see you."
Locke-"This can't be happening. This, this is a misunderstanding. This can't-this can't happen to me. He wouldn't do this to me. He wouldn't do this to me!"
But he did.
Devastated John rips out his IV stands up.
John {White tee shirt} pulls up to Anthony’s guardhouse and tells Eddie to open the gate.
Eddie says Mr. Cooper isn’t seeing guests. {Note the photo wall} But John is not a guest.
John gets out of his beetle and demands Eddie open the gate.
John walks up to the gate and notes the camera, “I know you’re watching me. You can’t do this.”
Frustrated and hurt John angrily drives off: smacks the rear view mirror and hits at the car as he drives away from the gate. He pulls over to have a crying fit.
John is having a crying fit over the hatch door. “I’ve done everything you wanted me to do, so why did you do this?! Why?!”
A light shines through the hatch door window.

Dues Ex Machina is a GREAT EPISODE and I must say this is one very important episode. Great in so many ways. I LOVE this episode so much! There's so much valuable information to soak up. I want to mention the title. I know that from my days in theatre; Greek theatre. Could that be a connection? I think yes. I know it also could refer to 'god from machine' in Latin.

Emily's ranting could be the tales of a crazy woman, but there could be some truth to it too.
Again the reference of two halves being brought together to make one, a design of sorts.

Locke has a vision. {I don't like jumping ahead but in season 3 he has a vision again, both times involving Boone. What's his connection to Boone?} John feels compelled to open that hatch, but is that really part of his calling, his destiny? Is it going to end up being a "door" that shouldn't be opened?

 Things to note...Questions to ask...
♟Note when the “Flash” sounds.
Glitchy flash vision. Repeating. Written words/pen.
♟Game. Con. Lies. Costumes-Pretending to be someone else. Trap...Trapped in a game/pen?
Information on drivers license is contradictory.

♟Emily obviously has blue eyes and then is referenced having brown. Millipede coming out of the eye socket.
♟Red file. Drivers License. Admission papers.
♟Mental health. Santa Rosa. Hospital. Institutionalized.
♟St. Thomas Hospital
♟John talks about very worldly things, of ancient things often, Philosophy, engineering.
♟Mirror. Light.
♟Paralysis. Brain Tumor. Headaches. Light sensitivity.{Brain waves?} Wake up.
♟Feeling nothing. Schizophrenia. Crazy.
♟Family. Watching. Anthony is watching. Who else is watching and from where?
♟Design. Conceived. Invention. Created. Wires. {Machine}
♟Beetle=Bug.
♟Wacky paste. Drugs. Meds. Prescriptions. Alcohol/liquor.
♟Adventure.
John doesn’t seem to pay attention very well and he’s easily influenced.
♟The Priest/father’s true identity is revealed to be something else. Could John’s father or someone else be revealed to be something else? Hmmm.
♟Is something happening with their heads, while they are sleeping or under.  Something with their brain waves?  There seems to be something going on in their heads/minds.

Games and traps are all part of the plan.  Locke, a master at games and strategy but seems to lack common sense.  When John says the Island “wants me to follow what I saw”, could John have been wrong to follow what he saw?   Hence the reason for John losing the use of his legs; the “Island” may have been trying to get him to stop from making the same mistake again.   Is that possible?  Or is this what has to happen help him or someone else make progress?
Is John also part of this experience/journey because he is putting pieces in play for Anthony or someone else?  Or is this the test given to John and only John, or is it about someone else?  In the flash while bird hunting Anthony tells John “These doves fly a lot faster than you think. So you gotta really lead them.You have to drop it and I'll cover you.”   Doesn’t it seem like that’s what happened here with Boone?  Would Shannon count as well?

If John is not a guest could he be a major player or even architect in all of this?  Or is he a lost dog, merely a pawn or a knight?
Bottom line here...what is real and what’s not?  But the answers are right in front of our “blurry “eyes.

Love to all who are "Lost"™

PS: I must note that as I transferred these notes over here that it was very apparent in this episode that the whole Boone-Locke vision from Further Instructions was foreshadowed right here, as is what we saw from then and all the way through season 5.  Here Boone tells Locke he has to get him back to Jack.   This line and other clues from Deus Ex Machina and the amount of clues I felt I got from the Further Instructions vision reaffirms my theory on the vision not being about Eko but indeed about Jack.  But how else does Eko factor in if at all? But we do know John's "further instructions" came from Eko's stick. I also feel this episode does indeed lay out a huge amount of detail to the "whole" of the story. It's a nice little play book!

Note: SKADDEN PHARMACY is Emily's pharmacy here but in Something Nice Back Home Jack gets his prescription from Kaddaen's Pharmacy.   Skadden/Kaddaen's anagrams to Dad Snake.

In Hearts and Minds during Boone’s vision, he and Shannon were being chased by a giant bird.

Disclaimer: I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! The things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either! You all know I hate spoilers! And I stand clear of reading certain sites as to not take me off my own course of research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode; we all know what they are. Understood? Let the fun begin! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues later, but need to be noted when they first show up and things I find that will be of importance.

TABULA RASA

Let's talk about LOST!  Tabula Rasa.

Claire and the survivors are on the beach going through luggage.

The Marshal tells Jack "Don't trust her. She's dangerous."
Jack- "Try not to move, man."
The Marshal keeps saying they/he have to find her, they/he have to bring her back.
Jack-"Every time I ask you who you have to bring back, you pass out on me again.  Since your fever is running pretty high, I'm guessing you have no idea who the hell you're talking about."
The Marshal, who now seems lucid, wants to know where his handcuffs are. He has Jack get something from his jacket pocket. It is a mug shot flyer. Again he tells Jack she's dangerous. Jack looks troubled.
Kate and the transceiver group trek back to the beach. Kate looks sad and troubled.
Boone comments that it's getting dark.
Sawyer -"Then pick up the pace."
Boone calls him a name {dick, I think}.
Sawyer-"A little louder."
Sayid suggests they make camp there. Sawyer doesn't want to stop so Sayid tells him to have a nice walk through the jungle in the dark.
Sawyer- "Ooooh. Afraid the tress are gonna get us?"
Sayid- "No. What is knocking down the trees will get you."
Maybe Sawyer should have the clip for the gun back. Kate tells him to put the gun back in his pants.
Kate confirms, "Sayid's right, you keep walking, you're not gonna make it to the beach."
Why, does she know something?
Kate-"Trust me."

Night:
Sayid uses a rock (to represent Australia) and a torch (to represent them/us) as visual aids,"This is Australia. This is us."
Sawyer-"Nice stick."
Sayid continues- "Two days ago we take off from Sydney.   We fly along the same north east route every commercial airliner bound for Los Angeles does."
Kate confirms the pilot says he lost communication with the ground six hours in; he turned around and headed for Fiji.   No one knew they changed course. The turbulence hit, "We know the rest."
Kate-"The pilot said we were 1,000 miles off course."
Charlie feels they'll find us, "They have satellites in space that can take pictures of your license plate."
Sayid- "If only we were all wearing license plates." Basic photography, point and shoot. Satellites can shoot, but must be told where to point.
Charlie- "Oh. Bullocks."
Sawyer-"Okay. Really enjoyed the puppet show. Fantastic...we're stuck in the middle of damn nowhere. How 'bout we talk about that other thing."
He refers to the transmission Abdul picked up on the radio with the French chick that said "They're all dead."  The 16 year loop. "Let's talk about that."
No one says anything about that.
Boone- "Well. We have to tell the others when they get back." But tell them what; they don't know what they heard after all Shannon's not a stupid translator.
Sayid suggests they don't say anything, "To relay what we heard, without fully understanding it, will cause a panic. If we tell them what we know, we take away their hope. And hope is a very dangerous thing to lose."
Kate-"So we lie."

Hurley asks Jack "Was it a dinosaur?"
Jack says it wasn't.
Hurley-"You say you didn't see it."
Jack- "I didn't."
They are busy making a tent to shelter the Marshal. Jack educates Hurley about knowing it wasn't a dinosaur because they are extinct.
Hurley-"Oh. Yeah."
Hurley asks what the Marshal's story is; he looks kind of...dying, and yellow.
Jack says he's not going to die.   His wound is infected; the antibiotics will fight it off.   If not, his body will shut down, one piece at a time. His abdomen goes rigid then..."
Hurley-" He looks like he's in pain."
Hurley picks up Kate's mug shot and wonders what she did; she looks pretty hard core.
Jack doesn't know; it's none of his business.

All of the transceiver group is sleeping except for Boone. He steals the clip from Sayid. Sayid wakes up.
Boone claims he's standing guard, "You heard what they said's out there."
Boone also took the gun from Sawyer.
Shannon is upset because Boone has never held a gun, doesn't believe in guns, "He goes on marches."
Boone-"I don't go on marches."
There's an argument about Sawyer's misuse of the word Aljazeera {the network}.
Shannon suggests Kate hold the gun. They all agree.
{Flash Whoosh}
...A rifle is pulled on "Kate" in Australia as she sleeps in Ray Mullens sheep pen. {Ray hold rifle in left hand. There are lockers on the back wall.}  She says she walked from the nearest town; 15 kilometers.
She tells Ray her name is Annie.
Ray feeds her bacon, eggs and coffee and he asks her why she's trespassing on his property. She says she's from Canada and she ran out of money. She graduated from college and wanted to see the world; Australia was tops on her list so she hoped a flight to Melbourne.    She doesn't know anybody "here", so she figured she'd walk for a while.
Ray states that "Melbourne's a hundred kilometers from here."
She likes walking and she likes farms too; knows how to work one. Ray's wife died 8 months earlier. {He still wears wedding ring} He offers her a fair wage and a place to stay if she helps with the chores. She agrees to the "Deal."
She wants to "Shake" on it, but Ray shows he has a prosthetic right arm. He's a lefty.
(Check out the arms!)
Hurley runs to tell Jack, who is still tending to the marshal, that they're back.

Sayid gathers the survivors around to recap the trek, "As you and the others know, I hiked up the mountain in an attempt to help the rescue team locate us. The transceiver failed to pick up a signal. We weren't able to send out a call for help."  They won't give up.  He has everyone gather up all their electronic equipment, he can boost the signal and try again.    It may take time so he gives instructions to ration remaining food and gather rain water.   He needs to organize three separate groups; each group should have a leader. 1 group for water. {He'll organize that}
Sayid asks, "Who's going to organize electronics?" {Why not Sayid? That's fucked up!}
Jack is relieved to see Kate.
Kate needs to tell him something. She tells them about the blocking signal preventing them from sending a signal.
Kate- "It was a distress call from a French woman. She said that the others were dead. That something had killed them all. She was alone on the Island. It's been playing for 16 years, Jack."
She felt she wanted to tell him.
Jack asks if there's anything else she wants to tell him.  Kate looks back at the tent housing the Marshal and asks how he is, "He wake up?"
Jack-"Just for a few seconds during the surgery."
He lies to Kate and says the Marshal didn't say anything.

As Hurley and Jack are moving two plane seats, Hurley wants to know what Kate said; since they know about the mug shot, the cuffs and that guy keeps saying she's dangerous.
Jack tells him again, "I don't know anything." It's not his business, it's not his problem.
Hurley- "Yeah, you're right. We'll let Johnny Fever take care of her when he gets better."
Only he's not getting better, he needs stronger antibiotics.
The stuff Hurley gave him was for ear infections and foot fungus; apparently they went through everything. Jack asks about the luggage in the overhead compartments.  Hurley won't go in there with the dead bodies.    Hurley will keep an eye on...Jack will handle it.

Jack with a flashlight, looks for meds in the dark fuselage. Jack hears a noise.
"Boo." It's Sawyer trick or treating.
Jack calls it looting. He wants to know what's in Sawyers bag.
Sawyer has Booze, smokes and a couple of Playboy, "What's in yours?"
Jack-"Medicine."
Jack wonders if this what he does back home too, "Steal from the dead?"
Sawyer- "Brother. You gotta wake up... Rescue aint coming."
Sawyer feels Jack's wasting his time trying to save that guy. He also asks how many of those pills is he going to use to fix him up.
Sawyer says to Jack, "YOU'RE JUST NOT LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE, Doc. You're still in civilization." And he's in the wild.

On the beach Charlie uses the wheelchair to cart luggage. He helps Claire. Charlie comments about the wheelchair, "Well, look on the bright side. Whose ever this was is probably better off than we are."

Sun thinks she found Jin's bag.   Jin checks it but it's not his. He tells Sun she looks filthy, she needs to wash up. As she walks way he says "I love you." She forces a smile back.

Charlie asks Claire how the baby is and discovers there is no man in her life.   That's very modern of her. Claire makes a comment about those guys hiking up the mountain for nothing.

Hurley runs out of the tent carrying three empty water bottles, right into Kate. He nervously tells her he was going to get water. They haven't met before; Kate introduces herself. She was looking for Jack. Jack went to get medicine from the fuselage. Kate has a gun sticking out of her pants back waist band. This makes Hurley even more nervous. He pretty much runs away from her. {He looks back when he runs}

Rain hits the beach and everyone tries to take cover and gather rain water.
Kate enters the Marshal's tent.
As she leans over him {Apparently check if he's conscious} he appears to be out....{FLASH}.... Annie hides her wages in the pantry behind the wall in a tin can. {Pear jars dated 2003 and 2004} She's on the run again. Ray turns on the light and catches her. He would have held on to the money for her but she has trust issues.
Annie wrote Ray a note in place of saying goodbye.   She's been with Ray almost three months. Every time Ray asks her questions about herself she gets that look in her eye.
Ray convinces her to stay 1 more night; offers to drive her to the train station in the morning.
Ray-"I get it you. Everyone deserves a fresh start."……The marshal wakes up and chokes Kate. Jack breaks it up.
Jack asks Kate "What did you do?"
She was just checking him.
Jack gives the Marshal water and explains that he's not responding to antibiotics, he's bleeding internally, his fever is pushing 104 and his abdomen is ridged. Jack leaves to get him more water.

Outside the tent Kate asks Jack "What are you going to do about it?" {About him} She asks if he'll suffer and will it be quick.
Jack explains it won't be quick; it could take 2, 3 may be 4 days, and he'll feel it.    Kate wants Jack to put him out of his misery.
Jack admits he saw her mug shot.
Jack–"I am NOT A MURDERER."

{Flash}
Annie rides passenger in Ray's old red truck. If You've Got Leaving on Your Mind, by Patsy Cline plays on the radio. Rays cutely asks if they listen to Patsy Cline in Canada. She tells him they listen to Patsy Cline everywhere. He offers her a burger she declines saying she'll eat on the train. She notices Ray keeps checking the rear view mirror.   She asks what he's looking for.  She sees in the side view mirror a big black SUV approaching fast. She now realizes Ray "knows".    He admits to knowing for a couple of days. He saw her picture in the post office, "I guess they knew you were down under"   Ray needs the reward money, $23,000 to pay for the mortgage. She confesses her name's not Annie. {Ray still wears wedding ring} The Marshal pulls right next to Kate's side of the truck opens the window and does the ol pulls the make believe gun/trigger gesture at her………

Kate stands in the rain on the beach.
Walt plays with three white rocks and a plane part. {Makes a slide-like game} Michael and Walt talk about the bald guy Mr. Locke. Michael asks if Mr. Locke "got any kids?"
He didn't say.
Michael wants to know what he said.
Walt tells him "Some of its secret."
Michael-"Did he tell you not to tell me?"
No, he didn't. Michael pushes to know the secret.
Walt says that Mr. Locke said, "A miracle happened to him."
{BUT DOES NOT SAY WHAT THE MIRACLE WAS OR REVEAL ANYTHING!}
Michael tosses up miracle to the fact it's a miracle they all survived a plane crash. Michael wants Walt to stop hanging around with Locke but Walt feels that Locke's his friend.
Michael- "I'm your friend too."
Walt with attitude says, "If you were my friend you'd find Vincent."
Michael- "I haven't given up on your dog. I'm gonna do everything I can to find him."
Walt gets confrontational telling Michael he won't find the dog, he doesn't care about Vincent. Michael-"I'm gonna get your dog back.   As soon as it stops raining.  Listen to me. I'm gonna get your dog back."
And just like that THE RAIN STOPS.

Michael {Red leash} walks through the jungle talking to himself, mocking the coincidence about looking for Vincent "when it stops raining...I'm gonna find your dog. I'm just gonna go walking through the haunted damn jungle, looking for your..."
He hears something. "Vincent!?"
He hears grunts and growls. "Hey Vincent, that you, Buddy?" More growls. Michael runs away as if something is chasing him.   He runs until he comes upon Sun who is topless, washing up. Uncomfortable, he tries to explain to her in English that something was chasing him. He doesn't hear it now. He warns her she should probably head back. He picks up her top and hands it to her. {Why?} "I didn't see anything."
As he walks away he says again "If you're worried about it, I didn't see anything."
She looks back, watches him walk away.

The Marshal is suffering; he's yelling/crying out in pain.  Everyone hears  him.

Charlie sits by Locke who is whittling a dog whistle. {Because he's Walt's REAL friend}
Charlie tells him he used some tribal flutes once in a recording session. He's in a band.
Locke doesn't acknowledge him.

Anxious Shannon tells Boone she wishes he {the Marshal} would just die already.

Sayid offers assistance to Jack.
He whispers to Jack, "The others are getting upset. They want to know what's going on inside the tent."
Jack- "I'm trying to save his life."
Sayid- "Rumor has it, you can't." {WTF?! Who started this rumor? Who would know Jack can't?}

Night:
The Marshal still yells out, suffering in agony.  Kate, about to light a fire, discovers no matches. Sawyer, on cue, offers her a light. {He has a lighter.} He came by to thank her for taking that gun away from him. She says she didn't take it away from him.
Sawyer-"It's stickin' out of your denims, aint it?"
He's glad he's not the one with the gun right now. With the poor boy screaming all night, he knows what's got to be done, "The only one that can do it, it the one with that gun."
He tells her not to act so surprised, "I heard you tell the hero the same thing…. Hell, there's only one bullet left. It'd be damn near poetic."
Jack is still tending to the dying Marshal. The marshal wants Jack to listen to him, "No matter what she does, no matter how she makes you feel, don't trust a word that she says. She will do anything to get away."
Jack asks what she did.
The Marshal doesn't say what it was; he wants to talk to her, alone. Jack doesn't respond.
The Marshal notes, "She got to you too."
Outside Kate just stares at the marshal's tent....
{FLASH}...The Marshal gives her the make believe gun/trigger gesture. Ray sees another car headed for them. The Marshal drops back behind them. Once clear from the passing car, the chase is on. Kate spins the truck out causing it to rollover and down a hill. She saves Ray from the fiery crash, pulling his prosthetic arm from his shirt. The marshal apprehends Kate. At the top of the road, a truck honks by and Ray wakes up. The Marshal pulls a gun on Kate.
Kate talks with the Marshal in his tent. He wonders what the favor was she was going to ask him for when they were on the plane... {FLASH}...Kate and the Marshal on the plane during the turbulence. {Again watch the marshals face with the turbulence.} She has one favor to ask. The plane starts its break up, etc.
Kate wanted to be sure Ray Mullen got his 23 grand; Yeah,  the guy who ratted her out.
The Marshal-"You really are one of a kind."
He goes on to say she would have got away if she didn't save him.
Kate- "In case you didn't notice, I did get away."
Marshal- "You don't look free to me….Kate, I'm gonna die, right?"

Hurley asks Jack "Where's the fugitive?"
Jack informs him "In the tent. What's she gonna do, she's 120lbs soaking wet".
Hurley reveals that she has a gun. Concerned Jack runs toward the tent to make sure Kate wasn't going to kill the Marshal. He's relieved to see Kate walk out of the tent. A shot rings out! It's Sawyer who leaves the tent having done the deed. He shot the Marshal in the chest; trying to hit his heart but it doesn't kill him.
Sawyer tells Jack the Marshal wanted it, "Hell, he asked me."

Inside the tent Jack tells Sawyer he perforated his lung, it will take the Marshal hours bleed out. Sawyer missed shooting him in the heart; He only had one bullet. Jack kicks Sawyer out.
Sawyer tries to smoke but his cigarette won't light.
After a minute we don't hear anything coming from the Marshal. Jack walks out of the tent with blood on his hands. Jack is upset, he doesn't say a word.

Daylight on the beach:
Locke sits on the beach facing the jungle. He blows into the whistle he made four times. He hears something. It's Vincent! {Collar on. Blue dog tag}
Locke walks through the wreckage to where Michael and Walt are sleeping in the sun.
Locke wakes up Michael, "Shhh. I found your sons dog. Vincent. I tethered him to a tree just over there."
Locke tells him he knows Walt lost his mom so he thought it would be best Michael should be the one to bring his dog back to him. {Wink.}

Jack sits on the beach looking out to the water.
Kate joins him; she wants to confess what she did and why he was after her.
Jack -"I don't wanna know. It doesn't matter, Kate, who we were, what we did before this, before the crash. It doesn't really...Three days ago we all died. We should all be able to start over."
Okay. {WTF? Is he giving up on rescue already?}

Hurley dumps sand out of his sneaker while listening to Wash Away on the CD player. The survivors are going about their new lives on the beach.
Jin wipes his hands, checks on sleeping Sun; tenderly touches/moves her hair.
Boone gives Shannon a fixed pair of sunglasses.
Sayid tosses fruit to Sawyer.
Charlie puts new tape on his fingers. {Permanent marker}
Claire sits and talks to her tummy.
Michael brings Vincent back to Walt. Walt is very happy.
Locke sits very quietly watching....watching them! Then...as the last note rings out on Wash Away into the LOST music, and that last note rings out, listen to the sounds very carefully. {With headphones if necessary} As the camera pans around from behind Locke to the front of Locke... Monster sounds.... Interesting, huh?! Hmmmmmmmm. Yeah!

Thing to note...Questions to ask...
  • Kate says she's from Canada. What is Kate's role, really? Dangerous, how? Where's page 1 of her mug shot flyer? She's cunning and clever. Is she capable of crashing a plane to get away?
  • Kate/Annie likes orange shirts. Lol
  • The Dahli Lama wears orange. (And red)
  • Alias. {Names}
  • Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Charlie, Boone and Shannon agree to lie. Hmmm. Standing guard.
  • Could the Castaways be tracked?
  • Marches. March. Mars.
  • Fever. Fire. Lighter. Light.
  • Pace.
  • Chicken/eggs. Pear/pair.
  • Mirror. Rear view mirror.
  • Boone steals the bullet clip from Sayid. Sawyer steals the clip on badge from the Marshal.
  • The passenger and driver seats in Rays truck are opposite from the way they are the States.
  • Down. Under. Slide down.
  • In the wild"...as opposed to being in cages or domesticated?
  • Parts of the body will shut down one at a time.
  • Walk. Walking.
  • Michael seems troubled regarding Walt and Mr. Locke.
  • Michael and Sun. I think they have a connection.
  • Locke gives Walt the illusion that Michael found the dog.
  • Charlie's taped fingers- FATE...LATE...what next?...KATE?
  • Sayid is the one who talks to the group about organizing and helping to contribute to their Island survival.
  • Keep your eye on Locke at all times. With what I saw with him here I believe there's more to Mr. Locke.

Tabula Rasa is a Great episode! We have our Lostie's arriving on the "Island" and are able to leave behind "everything", getting a clean slate.
More to it, I think so. What do you think?
For example, Jack may have added something very interesting to his CLEAN SLATE....ironic isn't it?
You'll hear the Lostie's say things like..."In a former life I was..." or "In the real world I did..."
Pay attention to things like that.

The story gets told to us through metaphors, word play, using subliminal  and  lesser simpler situations to make us "real into" what the bigger picture really is.  Our clues will come from not only what we are seeing in the scene, but VERY much from the dialogue.    The words and phrases that are used are huge clues.  So many things are right in front of our eyes. So don't just look at the show, really see what's there. Look deeper!

A "Clean slate", a "New beginning", a "New life", "Start over" and a "Do-Over". I point this out because of my thoughts of the survivors doing just that, re-living things over.

Love to all who are "LOST"™

PILOT. part 1

PILOT. Part 1

Eye... {PAY attention to eye colors} Jack lays on his back in the middle of the bamboo jungle. He wakes up. The view is of Jack's perspective looking up toward the unbroken bamboo trees above him. Two scratches on right cheek bone, two on left cheek. He looks to his left and sees a dog; Vincent, collar on, all happy as can be. Vincent runs off. We don't really hear any background noises. Jack stands up and realizes he's bleeding. He checks his right jacket pocket and pulls out an unbroken travel size bottle of liquor. Jack takes off running through the jungle. {OK, I'm gonna wake up in the middle of the jungle after falling from the sky, and I'm going to know which direction to run in to get to the 'beach', yet Jack heads right for the beach! Damn he's good.} On his way, Jack passes a white right tennis shoe in the tree. Little by little we hear the screams and yells of the survivors of the crash. {Could it be that they all were starting to 'wake up' at the same time?}
Jin yells for Sun. Michael yells out for Walt.
Jack kicks into rescue everyone mode. He saves Rose and a nearly eight months pregnant Claire and then Hurley. Locke and Jack remove a plane part off a guy trapped under it. Let's remember when Jack's saving Rose, Boone tells him he's a licensed Life Guard. Boone runs around frantically asking people if they have a pen (So that a hole can be made in Rose's throat.) Boone does retrieve a handful of pens for Jack.
Jack searches for sewing kit in suitcases and finds one.

Jack leaves the crash site to stitch up his wounds.
Kate, alone rubbing her wrists comes upon Jack. She's wearing a white shirt. Kate helps Jack sew up his cut; after all she sewed a pair of drapes once. Jack tells Kate the story of his first solo procedure while in residency as a spinal surgeon. How he counted to 5 to deal with the fear, "How the terror was just so crazy, so real.... {As opposed to not real?} ... And I knew I had to deal with it." So he made a choice to let the fear in and take over, but only for 5 seconds. {Jack seems to tell this story almost trance-like and very emotional.} Kate says she would have run for the door. Jack notes she's not running now.

Sawyer is hanging out smoking...no real emotion, just kind of looks like, 'well island, here I am.' But note he lights a cigarette where there is fire, gas and fumes!
Hurley's in charge of the food.
Locke just sits looking out over the water.
Boone is trying to get a signal on his cell phone; it only beeps.

Sayid builds a fire and recruits Charlie to help make it a big fire.
Revived Rose kisses her wedding ring on a chain.

It's Night on the beach. Sayid wonders why "they" haven't come by now. Hooded Charlie asks "Who?"
Sayid- "Anyone."
{Why would Charlie ask who? Is he NOT expecting people to come?} {DS ring.} Charlie is writing the letters of the word FATE on four of his white taped left handed fingers.
Shannon paints her toes by firelight. Boone offers her a chocolate bar, after all they may be there for a while. Shannon reminds him the plane had a black box so they know exactly where they are and they're coming. She'll eat on the rescue boat.
Hurley delivers food to Claire; he gives her two trays of food.

Michael watches over Waaaaaalt.
Jin tells Sun in Korean she must not leave his sight, "You must follow me wherever I go." He tells her not to worry about the others,"We need to stay together."

Jack tends to a severely injured man who Kate was sitting next to on the plane. She asks if he's gonna live.
Jack uses a palm leaf as a visual aid to describe the plane at 40,000 feet, then hits an air pocket; he blacked out, etc..
Kate saw the whole thing. Jack says they need to figure out which way they came in, head to the cockpit and find a transceiver to send out a signal, "Help the rescue party find us."
Kate wonders, "How do you know all that? {Does he remember something?}
Jack admits he took a few flying lessons, "wasn't for me." {He's more the doctor role, than the pilot role anyway. But he technically piloted a plane!}
Kate mentions she saw smoke through the valley and if Jack's thinking of going there then she's going with him.
Jack-"I don't know your name."
She introduces herself, "I'm Kate."
MONSTER sounds! The trees move as if being knocked down, sounds of metal, gurgling, clicking, and an almost siren sound.
It's cute how when Walt hears the monster he turns to Michael and asks "Is that Vincent?" {Vincent? WTF?!}
You can see Rose calmly standing, looking in the direction of the sound.
No one freaks out; they listen but they aren't frightened enough to run and hide.
Charlie- "Terrific."

{Flash}
Jack is on the plane looking out the window that's on his left; he's having a drink. Cindy the stewardess comes over to him, "Shhh" sneaks him two bottles of vodka for his not so strong drink. Jack jokes about it breaking some critical FAA regulations. He downs his drink.
Charlie runs toward the 'front' of the plane to the bathroom.
Jack and Rose have conversation, about the turbulence; he tells her it's normal.
Locke sits behind Rose.
Rose mentions to Jack she has never been a very good flyer. Rose's very smart husband is bathroom. Jack tells her not to worry and that he'll keep her company until her husband returns, "It's gonna be over…"
The plane shakes badly, the masks come down, people are tossed around.

On the beach Jack stares at the water. The survivors talk about the sounds they heard.
Michael- "It didn't sound like an animal. Not exactly, I mean..."
Rose- "That sound that it made, I keep thinking that there was something really familiar about it."
Shannon- "Really? Where are you from?"
Rose-"The Bronx."
Charlie-"Might be monkeys. It's monkeys, right?"
Sawyer-"Sure it's monkeys. It's Monkey Island."
Hurley-"Technically, you know, we don't even know if we're on an island."
Sayid-"We're on an island."

Kate asks Jack if he's ready but Jack feels he can find it himself. She insists she'll go retrieve the transceiver from the cockpit with him but she's gonna need better shoes. Kate gets a pair off a dead body. Locke, who has a vertical cut above and below his right eye, smiles at her with an orange slice in his smile.

Michael tells a few of them that whatever they heard wasn't natural.
Charlie asks for sun block; Shannon has some.
Hurley says they should do something about the bodies; a word that Hurley miss-spells and Walt corrects.
Jack entrusts Boone to keep an eye on the wounded. They talk about the marshal and the other guy with the leg. Charlie will go on the trek too because he doesn't feel like standing still.

As Jack, Kate and Charlie leave for the cockpit we see Vincent just sitting there checking, watching them. Kate asks Charlie if they ever met anywhere before. Charlie reveals he's in the rock band Drive Shaft; he shows her the DS ring, 2nd tour of Finland.
Jack says they have to keep moving.
Locke sits on the beach looking out toward the open water. The skies look gloomy.

It's raining in the valley. Charlie asks if it's normal "the kind of day turning into night, you know, end of the world type weather?"

At the beach the survivors are seeking cover due to a big rain storm, all except Locke who sits there welcoming the rain. He's not running from anything, he's welcoming everything!

There are monster sounds and movement in the trees again.
Jack breaks open the cockpit door and they find the Pilot. Jack tells Kate a transceiver looks like a complicated walki talki.
The pilot wakes up; his right eye is swollen and his head is dizzy. It's probably a concussion.
Jack informs the pilot at least 48 of them survived. It's been 16 hours. The Pilot explains what happened before they crashed, that rescue wouldn't know where to look for them because six hours in the radio went out, "No one could see us." They turned back to land in Fiji. By the time they hit turbulence they were 1,000 miles off course, "They're looking for us in the wrong place."
The pilot reaches for the transceiver.
Jack realizing Charlie's not in sight asks where Charlie is.
The transceiver isn't working.
Kate looks for Charlie.
Charlie is in the bathroom.
Monster sounds! It's right outside the window! Kate seeks protection in Jack's arms. They see dark shadow outside the fogged up window. Jack tries to wipe the fog off the windshield to "see" the monster. Brave Kate also tries for a closer look. The pilot is not scared, he gets up to take a peek too. He puts the transceiver on the seat and pokes his head out of the window. BAM, he's pulled out the window; blood everywhere.
The plane falls. {Do you hear whispers?}
They run through the jungle! Charlie falls, almost too close to the monster and Jack goes back to get Charlie.
Kate hides in a Banyan tree, {Looks like a cage/ jail cell} looks up and uses the count to 5 method we just heard Jack share. She screams for Jack. {Only for Jack and not for Charlie.}

Hooded Charlie scares Kate; no Jack. {Where the hell is Jack?}
Charlie saw Jack; he pulled him up but they got separated. Charlie also starts to describe "…That Thing…" as he claws his hand… Kate asks him "Did you see it?"
Charlie says "No. It was right there. We were dead…. I was…and then Jack came back and he pulled me up. I don't know where he is." The rain stops.
Kate says they have to go back for him. Charlie's concerned as there is a "certain gargantuan quality about this thing."
Kate tells him, "Then don't come."

Charlie goes after her. Kate finds the pilots "wings" in a muddy puddle; the reflection in the watery mud shows his body is up in the tree. Jack steps out of the trees not surprised to see the pilot in the tree. Kate asks him if he saw it.
Jack says "No. It was right behind when I dove into the bushes."
Charlie asks how something like that happens.
We see the pilot's bloody body in the tree.

Things to Note...Questions To Ask…
A pretty basic review; so what do we have? Jack placed inland waking up, bottles in pocket not broken, etc.. Vincent. They DO NOT look like people that just fell from the sky! They look like they were placed there.
* Monster.
* Numbers to note- 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 16, 23
* Additional clue words: Pilot, Pen, Time, Watch, Guard, Needle, Alcohol, Patch, Black, Spine, Spinal fluid, Nerves, Sac, Membranes, Tissue.
* Charlie and Rose's husband were in the bathroom on the plane.
* Jack sits in row 23.
* New York.
* Pen
* Jack is NOT afraid of the monster, neither is the pilot. Did Jack see the monster? Where was Jack "hiding"?
* The flash shows us Charlie running to the bathroom toward the front of the plane. While he's in there the turbulence starts. Let's keep that in mind for part 2.

Vocabulary and Research…
* PILOT is an acronym, and stands for Programmed Instruction, Learning, Or Teaching.
* A pilot experiment is a precursor to a full-scale study used to check if all operational parameters are in check.
* A pilot study can refer to many types of experiments, but generally the goal of study is to replicate the full scale experiment, but only on a smaller scale.
* PILOT: is the title of a short story in science fiction author Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Sequence. 6th in the anthology Vacuum Diagrams.
* Pilot- Aviator, in aviation, an Aircraft pilot is someone who controls an aircraft. A Maritime pilot in shipping, someone who guides ships through the waters near a harbor or dangerous coastal waters. This is the original meaning.
* Pilot is the name of a pop rock group best known for their 1975 hit songs "Magic"
* Transceiver: a device that has both a transmitter and a receiver which are combined and share common circuitry or a single housing. If no circuitry is common between transmit and receive functions, the device is a transmitter-receiver. The term originated in the early 1920s. Technically, transceivers must combine a significant amount of the transmitter and receiver handling circuitry.

A great beginning to a wonderful story! Could there be a pilot responsible for delivering these people to this "Island" Or are they in the middle of an experiment?

Love to all who are "LOST"™

I never claim to know everything about the show and my thoughts by no means make me right! Things I share here are my views and/or opinions. I don't claim to catch every single detail either. I hate spoilers! I stand clear of reading certain sites, as to not take me off my own research. The one thing I don't need to do here is rehash all of the obvious clues from an episode, we all know what they are. Good! I'll only note things that I know come up as clues in bold.
